Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Hello ladies sorry I haven't been on for a bit to check on you. Baby wasn't very well but doing better now.

How are you all feeling?

Tallyra congrats!! Think sticky!! I've had a mmc with HG so I know how worrying it is the moment you get a bfp but it can work out! Look at me and my baby! Positive thoughts.
Rnj good luck with crib building.
Hopefully everyone has a slightly better day.

Sally8655 · 12/08/2013 10:21

Morning ladies

Congrats to tallyra xx

Thought id let you know, things have definitely improved a little for me.
Only being sick afternoons and evenings now. Mornings are not too bad.
I'm able to eat a couple new things! Croissants have been good and grapefruit segments have stayed down.
Was able to leave the house at the weekend which was really nice.
I was pretty sick last night but I'm sure it's worse when I do more, so going to stay in bed today.
I've changed my vitamins from floradix to pregnacare plus which really seems to have helped with the constipation as it has a stool softener in.

Think I'm starting to feel the baby move a little now, it's really strange. More so after I've sneezed or jumped up. Its like a knocking feeling which is different to wind.
And baby's heartbeat is so easy to find with the Doppler now too, so much louder and stronger than earlier.
Really excited about next scan, but nervous too. I can't wait to find out if its a boy or girl but terrified something will be wrong after all the medications and scans I've had lately. Especially the vq scan!
Wanted to pay for a gender scan but decided the money would best be put to another use. The list of things to buy and do is mounting :-)

Hope others are ok and improving a bit xxx

Hey guys. I have had a better few days in that I have kept food down but I have still (and still do) had constant, pervasive, debilitating nausea. Plus I get exhausted really easily and quickly.

13+3 today. I finished my course of antibiotics and I wonder has that helped with the vomiting?

RNJ3007 · 12/08/2013 17:07

Hi all. Glad some are having improvements.

I have been admitted today with pre eclampsia by the looks of things. Lots of drugs to bring BP down, and am stable and bub is fine, but have had a sweep and looks like I will be induced in next couple of days if he doesn't appear on his own.

They upped my ondansetron and they are plying me with food to help me get through labour when it starts. Eep.

LittleMachine · 12/08/2013 19:10

Hi everyone!

Back from my holidays today. I had quite a mixed experience of horrendous days and not too bad days. Some days I threw up my odansetron (they've given me generic not Zofran so it's normal tablets not melts) and they were the bad days.
I think the b6 is helping a bit as I have some time without feeling sick and I didn't before taking it or in my last pregnancy.
I'm 9 weeks now and noticeably pregnant already.

RN it sounds like they're looking after you well. I'm sorry you have pre-eclampsia though Sad Come on baby! Soon you'll be free of HG.

Trying to think back through the posts - I'm glad things have looked up a bit for some of you.

Waves, good to hear things are going well with your lovely baby boy. It must feel great to drink normally again.

Tallyra · 12/08/2013 21:27

Good luck RNJ, I really hope the extra ondansetron helps and you manage to eat. It sounds like you are in good hands. I have my fingers crossed all goes well for you.

Sally that's brilliant that you can feel baby moving! I can't wait to get to that stage. One day.

I am starting to get quite nervous about it all now. Going to speak to Polly from PSS tomorrow - she's going to be a bit put out when I tell her I may be asking for help rather than giving it, but I'll try and keep positive. Ive been offered a scan just before we go on holiday, which will be at just about 6 weeks - it probably won't show much, and it's the 9 week mark I'm most worried about, but to be offered a scan just like that was so lovely and refreshing - it took all I could do to get one last time, and the result wasn't great, so I think my story persuaded her it was a good idea to keep an eye on me.

Littlemachine, when did you start on the b6? I'm thinking of starting pretty soon (I'm 4+4 so far). And did you take anything else as well? I'm thinking cyclizene too - going to see my gp on weds and see if she'll prescribe some.

LittleMachine · 12/08/2013 21:41

I think I started it at just over 6 weeks. Strangely enough I took it in my last cycle of TTC from ovulation onwards to lengthen my luteal phased. May be coincidence that I got pregnant in that cycle but I wonder if I have a deficiency and that what takes me from morning sickness to HG. I don't know.

I'm also on 4 cyclizine a day and was on ondansatron last week but have now run out. And I still was copiously sick every day. I have been eating though, and I'm counting my blessings that my HG is nowhere near as severe as it was with DS.

LittleMachine · 12/08/2013 21:42

Also congratulations Tally. I hope this is a much smoother pregnancy for you.

feekerry · 12/08/2013 21:43

omg rjn!!! looks like you will be meeting your bubba sooner rather than later! what are you now? 37weeks??

RNJ3007 · 12/08/2013 22:38

Thanks tallyra I managed some food, so that's a win. Just playing the waiting game now. Still nauseous, but not gagged at all this evening, which is novel!!

fee I am 37+3! Very crampy now post-sweep. Hoping to get some sleep tonight.

Bub is very wriggly, he is doing fine. My BP is out of stroke risk range for now (good drugs!), but my feet and ankles and hands are huge, protein 3+, ketones 2+ and bloods a bit suspect.

Will, of course, let you lovely ladies know any news.

RNJ3007 · 12/08/2013 22:41

LittleMachine It gets better - I know both night shift midwives on my bay. So I have a fan and extra ice! Being well cared for. Now to wait!

jenpatnim · 13/08/2013 08:28

RNJ - fingers crossed for a smooth delivery! Eep!

I am up early to go to the dentist - went yesterday at 4 only to be told my appt was at 3 - is baby brain actually a thing? I think I am losing my mind.

Bad night's sleep and I have heaved a bit already this morning. I have a feeling today is not going to be a good day. Let's just hope I don't throw up on the dentist.....

LucindaE · 13/08/2013 15:32

Everyone My pc is kaput - 'motherboard', is the word, so I am typing this on library pc, just to let everyone know that mother hen will be back on the thread asap, I'm back from Buckinghamshire and with you in spirit. I glanced through - hugs to all, sorry RNJ is in hospital and I think Talyra has some good news, postive hugs. Sorryto all suffering.
Meanwhile, Ihave to call on waves and Reebok for a bit more until I am back online - looks like they have been doing a sterling job. Much sympathy to all suffering horribly at the moment.

How are things going rnj? And hope the dentist was ok jen and that the feeling rubbish didn't turn into vomiting too much.

Bad news about your computer lucinda but I'm still around. Can hardly leave the house due to a super hungry baby, although managed a walk into town this morning to see a recruitment consultant (because I was made redundant effective 30 June) and do some nappy and school shoe shopping. My body is getting used to exercise now after being so poorly.

How is everyone else doing? It's got really hot here again which made me feel soooo much worse. Hoping others are experiencing more typical British summer weather Smile

feekerry · 13/08/2013 21:09

its freezing here today waves proper autumn feel!

i have had a rocky few days.. must be a hormone surge or something. starts with feeling sick, then i don't feel like eating or drinking. crazy at 14 weeks. but you ladies know the score!!

jenpatnim · 13/08/2013 23:09

Today has been rough - nausea all day, some retching, and painful wind.

I've had enough for today. Exhausted.

Sally8655 · 13/08/2013 23:36

Evening all

Rnj- great news you'll be seeing babs soon but sorry your still suffering.

Fee- that's a bit like me, some days I'm not too bad although nausea is still present. Then other days I'm really sick and puking constantly.

Waves- hope all goes week on the job front, really pleased all is well with baby. It's not too hot here in northumberland, thank goodness! That heat was horrendous. Think the cooler air has really helped.

Last night was great, although I was really sick, dh suggested going up hill in the car to a nearby field for the stargazing. It was about midnight. The cold night fresh air swung it for me and it was amazing. So nice to feel really cool and fresh again. My ears even went numb with the cold! The shooting stars were a plus.

Today I managed to go pick up a few things to try and eat from the shop. I returned home with a load of junk! Cheese scones, pasty, crisps, sunny d juice, chewing gum and loads of chocolate. It wasn't till I got in the house and felt like I was going to be sick that I realised how unhealthy my latest cravings have been. I call them cravings but really it's more like "I could maybe stomache that" :-) these are things i never normally eat so don't know what possessed me.

Thinking of what I can maybe try to eat each day is still really hard. Going through things in my mind makes me puke and can't live off yoghurt and tinned grapefruit alone so maybe a little of the above is ok for now.

Dizziness is loads better and regularly able to go to the loo now too so really pleased with that. Hoping ill be back to myself within a few weeks time.

Xxx

LittleMachine · 14/08/2013 10:50

Sally I wouldn't worry about what you're eating. If you can get something in and keep it there that's a bonus.
I think I was about 16 weeks when I was able to eat normally last time. I was still sick an awful lot but I could keep food down. Because I'd been malnourished, once I started I couldn't stop. I must have put on more weight than anyone in an HG pregnancy ever!

feekerry · 14/08/2013 13:27

okay folks. i apologise in advance but really need some help. its gross btw...... you have been warned!!

so i suffer from constipation in pregnancy as most on here do due to meds. i have lactose on repeat prescription and manage okay with this on and off. but the last couple of days i get the urge to go and movements start but it won't physically come out. i can literally feel it there but its too big/hard to come out. its awful. what can i do?
presume more lactose won't help as this bit is already formed and just won't come out. what the fuck do i do?!
really yuk bit i am tempted to try manually remove it. don't know what else to do????

LucindaE · 14/08/2013 15:33

OK, back, lots of catching up to do, sorry for stupid pc's delay, everyone. I hoped for a new one, but the old one has been fixed...
Thanks so much Reebok and Waves for invaluable, lovely support on here, and I hope you do keep stopping by as who could help better, but I know what work new babies make, though it's been a long while with me...
Feekerry I think those glycerine supposotories might help with this bowel movement stuck thing, they are the only thing I can think of. Of course, the chemists have some rule they won't serve them to pregnant women, though they give them in hospital. You can get a bowel rinsing out thing, I know Kalidasa did online, and it was the only thing that worked for her. I believe they do it in hospital...
RNJ How are things? I am glad baby isn't dangerously small any more, but how dismal about the pre eclampsia keeping you in hospital.
Tallyra Hugs. I was dreadfully anxious too. I had only one certain miscarriage, but I now suspect I had a few early ones I didn't notice, one at nine days almost certainly, looking back. I have read that after three miscarriages the odds are still overwhelmingly in your favour.

Whoever mentioned their Grandmother's spirit, what a lovely thought!
Champagne and Sally and Jen and Everyone How are things? I am glad some of you have had some good days.
Back soon.
Lucinda

I'm sorry fee but I have no idea how you can sort yourself out. it sounds incredibly uncomfortable.

Well I went to the doctor this morning to get pre emptive meds and I have never been angrier with a doctor ever. having told me she was happy to help me a couple of months ago, she tells me this morning that I shouldn't be taking anything except vitamins until I get sick. I tried to tell her everything I have researched and about the PSS recommendations and she dismissed it all as being 'just a charity with no doctors knowledge'. I even tried to go e her my care plan I started to work on. Oh no, they don't do that.
She did have some good advice too and I may talk to the hospital about direct admission if necessary rather than via a+e, but she made me so angry I was shaking. I eventually got her to prescribe cyclizine and promethazine for when it gets going, which I will be cracking open shortly.
On another point, we went shopping and bought the mist random selection of stuff to try, from jelly to apricots and boxes of fruit juice. I WILL be prepared.

RNJ3007 · 14/08/2013 17:11

fee Glycerol suppositories. Seriously. Only thing that finally helped me. Boots do them off the shelf - green box. The iron/ondansetron/limited intake/pregnancy combo was rotten to my insides.

tallyra I am FUMING on your behalf. If I lived nearby, I'd pop you in my ondansetron supply... I have enough for 3x4mg a day for another 6 weeks!

I stabilised enough (and cried enough from sheer exhaustion) that I have been sent home for the night. Doing a 24 hour urine catch (giant jug...) and am back to DAU tomorrow. Going to spend evening on my ball, try and bounce this baby out. If this catch is ok and my BP stays under 'stroke risk' level, they will let me try to go into labour myself, given I've had show, am sporadically contracting and head is no longer palpable above brim of pelvis. However, given the pain, exhaustion and risks, and the fact I am starting to have blurry vision, I think we may still end up being induced...

Nice to have you back Lucinda. Thanks waves and reebok for support and all of you for the caring shown. So appreciated.

Beccadugs · 14/08/2013 19:25

Hi ladies,

I've been absent for a little bit, as my phone, and screens in general seem to make things worse.

The ondastrone seems to have worked, but finished my weeks supply and GP is enforcing a few days cold turkey "to see if my symptoms have eased" as I am 11 weeks. I can confirm that they haven't, it's my birthday and I am feeling very rotten.

Good luck RNJ, hope bubs arrives soon, and you keep everything under control.

Fee, I really really feel your pain. I had a similar thing yesterday, spent over an hour in the bathroom. I am embarrassed to admit I resorted to some latex gloves and helping things along. Inalso found standing up and stretching to keep things moving helped. i also once read that squatting opens up your sphincter more thouroughly, you can try putting your feet up in a stool it can help things along. Once it got going the relief was brilliant. Sorry if that's TMI, but I was pretty desperate yesterday, and wished someone would give me some hints and tips!!

How rough tallyra, especially as you know it's probably on the way. I hate arguing with the GP, but in the last 7 weeks I have got pretty bombastic about things.

Welcome back Lucinda, hope you had a good holiday. Thanks for looking after us waves and reebok!

feekerry · 14/08/2013 19:42

thank you all. i went to boots just before they shut today and got suppositries, latex gloves and lube. gulp!
its horrid tho. i got really bad internal piles last time after being on onsansatron the whole pregnancy and that was awful so really trying to keep an eye on the constipation but as you say rjn ondansatron mixed with a very limited diet just doesn't work.
i will try all those tips tomorrow becca and report back in as much of a non gross way as possible!!

tally don't put up with there nonsense. that second drug you mentioned is rubbish. same thing they give folk for mild travel sickness. keep at them. i would be back on the phone tomorrow saying you tried those meds and no difference. where is the ondansatron please!!
