Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Hi all

How's everybody doing?
I'm up and down at the moment. I've been able to eat a bit more and keep it down but drinking water is still an issue. It has to be ice cold and even then I only manage sips.
Been trying soup etc to keep fluids up.

Don't know about anyone else but I'm having mega back ache already. Lower back and into my hips. It's awful, I have to get in all fours to stretch it out.
Also quite constipated so that doesn't help.

Hope all is well and you guys are seeing some improvement too xxx

wavesandsmiles · 08/08/2013 18:26

Hi everyone, just checking in like Lucinda said I would whilst she is away.

sally really pleased you can keep some food down. Have you thought about freezing squash into ice lollies as a way to keep fluids down? Was the only thing I could manage. Both medication (ondansetron) and dehydration cause constipation. Some people can manage things like fybogel to ease it, otherwise there are glycerol suppositories available.

How's everyone else getting on? Hard to name check as on phone with hungry baby attached, but rnj hope you are still surviving and that little boy is still inside

Hi guys, sorry I've been Mia for a while. I just wanted to say that my application to volunteer at PSS has finally been viewed and I'm going to have a chat with them next week about how I can help. I'm a bit apprehensive as although I've had HG 3 times there's no baby to show so I may be seen as a bit depressing rather than helpful, but I can but try!!

Thanks waves 36+6 and he's hanging on.

Said our final goodbyes to Grandma today, which was exhausting on every level. Was heinously sick until we left for the crematorium. Was totally fine until we left the wake, and now back to sips of water being enough to make me retch. Not fun.

Hands and feet are puffy and I have a slight headache... Not looking forward to my trip to DAU tomorrow. Hoping to avoid being admitted.

jenpatnim · 08/08/2013 21:28

Sally - I have the backache and constipation too. It is horrible, I can't get comfortable as I am so achy and I feel so sick as well.

Bad day today - very sick, retching, sipping juice and 2 plain biscuits. I know my mum is going to get on her high horse about hospital again if it doesn't improve. Bah.

Waves - you are having a tough time, I am so sorry.

Tallyra - I hope they take you on (hugs)

Champage, I am feeling sorry for myself as well. I have not even gotten dressed or left the house today.

Hello ladies another one checking in on you all as Lucinda said I would. How are you all feeling today?

Champagne glad you managed some food yesterday. As for the constipation, have you and Jen tried anything? Maybe see the gp about suppositories. I remember roomforanotherone using them and having some success.

Rnj, sorry for your loss. Hopefully feeling slightly better today? Keep holding on. You're doing really well Hun.

Tallyra, good luck! Hope it goes well.

Sally have you tried ice lollieS? For a while they were the only thing I could keep down (although now I can't stand the sight of them even after pregnancy!) Might be worth a shot?

Hi all,

Been feeling a bit better now I have the ondastrone, and have been functioning in real life.

Sadly it seems to have stoped working now, and I am feeling really dreadful this afternoon.

I am supposed to be going to a chocolate making workshop for a hen do tomorrow. Pukey!

I have, however, discovered that new covent garden gazpacho is a good food option for me. Plenty of fruit and veg, cold so don't have to taste too much, and I recon a good way to get liquid in without it being too sloshy!

Had my booking in this morning and the midwife suggested ginger, I nearly punched her...

Sorry to hear others are still feeling rough.

Glad you are hanging in there RNJ!

RNJ3007 · 09/08/2013 17:30

Thanks Reebok Been a tough few weeks.

DAU was a surprise today! My BP has somehow magicked itself into the normal range (111/70) and my CTG was good (130-165bpm variability). Still contracting on and off.

Today has not been great for food, but fluids staying put. I'll take it! Small victories and all that jazz.

Wishing you lovely ladies well. Hoping you all get some relief soon.

feekerry · 09/08/2013 19:35

evening ladies.
glad to see some are feeling a bit better. i am okay tho still struggle in the evenings like most seem to on here. forget morning sickness. more like evening sickness for me! okay most of the day then 5pm hits and blugh.

i soooooooooooo can't wait till this is over. even when i feel okay i still have that crappy taste in my mouth and feel like i could gag at any point. 26 weeks and counting.......x

Reebok · 09/08/2013 20:07

Champagne sorry to hear that. Sending you gentle hugs of encouragement.

Becca ah the dreaded G word. I still can't stand the stuff! You should have punched them. The same thing was suggested to me during my booking in. I had to shout I have HG!! Not bloody ms! Glad you're managing to eat something. Cold cucumber with salt always worked with me in the early days. Especially on the days when I could barely sip water.

Rnj brilliant news about your bp!! Glad fluids are staying put. It's shocking what babies can survive on! I look at my little girl and honestly cannot believe how healthy she is!

Feekberry hang in there. There is a light at the end of the tunnel. I remember feeling so awful and depressed and the lovely ladies on here really helped me through my darkest days where I had thoughts of wanting to abort my beautiful baby. I got through it and so will you. All of you will. Soon enough you will join me and enjoy lovely baby cuddles.

feekerry · 09/08/2013 20:16

pharmacy strengh prescription gaviscon is my new best friend. its amazing stuff. and it takes away that kacky taste in your mouth for it bit!!

wavesandsmiles · 10/08/2013 07:04

Morning everyone - hoping that the weekend is easier for all of you, or that at least you manage to rest or sleep during the evening yukkiness.

RNJ - so pleased to hear about the good news at DAU. You are definitely due a change in fortune Smile

Glad most of you are having spells in each day when you are able to keep some food and/or fluids down - make the most of those times I guess.

Feekerry - glad the gaviscon is helping

I second reebok's amazement at what babies can survive on. Caspian was such a good weight (although pleased he stuck inside til a couple of days off my due date) and is doing ever so well this side out too. I'm barely sleeping, but still feeling MUCH better, and am completely amazed at the amount of fluid I am getting through. He's 2 weeks old today Smile

Tallyra · 11/08/2013 08:01

ok, I am now officially scaring myself. I got a bfp this morning.....
That's fantastic, but it does mean that my holiday to France in 2 weeks time is looking like it might be the time the sickness starts....
scared now. all my apps say I'm 4 + 3.....

wavesandsmiles · 11/08/2013 08:13

Smile congratulations Tallyra on your bfp. Have you got sort of pre emptive meds that you can take?

How's everyone else? And how is your little one getting on reebok?

feekerry · 11/08/2013 09:27

not bad here waves tomorrow is the start of a new week which means one less week until i am hg free!!
congrats tallyra have you had hg before then?x

Tallyra · 11/08/2013 09:36

thanks. yes, I've had hg 3 times but mc at 9 - 12 w each time. I'm planning on taking b6 and cyclizine as per my last go visit, but I don't have a specific doctor, so hoping the next one I end up seeing is as sympathetic. I was given a card by a lovely epu nurse at my last gynae consultant appt so I'll be calling her next week. I also have a loose filling and an appointment next week. I doubt they will want to fix it, but if I'm throwing up I don't want it to het worse... anyone got any advice?

jenpatnim · 11/08/2013 12:14

Tallyra, congratulations. I mc'd before this pregnancy so I understand your concerns - it is very scary not knowing if this one is going to 'stick' or not. Every day that it continues feels like a triumph but the next day is another terror.

If you are in the UK (I assume it is a nationwide policy and not just Northern Ireland), you are entitled to free dental care whilst pregnant. I had a dentist appt booked in already when I got my BFP and I told my dentist I was pregnant - only 5 weeks at the time, I think. He didn't charge me for the visit and got me to sign a pregnancy form to entitle me to free treatment.

Other than that, just the stuff you already know - try to take it easy, don't overdo it, eat what you can when you can, even if it comes back up you will still get something from it.

Tell your GP about your history, if cyclizine helps you, ask for that, if you need more, mention ondansetron and ask about that.

Other than that, good luck, and know that this is in the hands of fate - you are doing nothing wrong and you are not to blame for the previous mcs. Just pray that this one is the one. Fwiw (and I am not a religious person) I will say a wee prayer for you and mention you when I 'talk' to my late very Catholic Irish granny and ask her to look out for you. If you are not religious and that sounds weird/offensive, then I apologise and will send positive thoughts your way instead.

Big hugs xx

Tallyra · 11/08/2013 13:33

thank you very much, and thanks jen. I'm not offended, but not religious either, so your thoughts mean more to me than prayers. Those thoughts mean a lot though!
The problem with pregnancy and dentists is that although it might be free, they don't actually want to do anything like filling holes because of the compounds or something possibly being bad for the baby. I definitely need to be careful of what happens to me so I'm hoping they'll have some sort of a solution.

RNJ3007 · 11/08/2013 14:29

Congratulations tallyra and good luck. I'll be thinking of you and thinking sticky thoughts.

About to embark on crib building... I must be mad.

feekerry · 11/08/2013 15:50

tallyra thinking sticky bean thoughts for you. and i think your right re dental work. they tend to only do the absolute basics in pregnancy i think!!
