Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

Hi ladies,

Waves congratulations! What wonderful news!!

I have been feeling a bit better, I think that the metoclopramide us working. I now have constant nausea rather than constant nausea and continual retching. Also suckness down to 4-5 times a day, and if I time it right I can manage some foods! Mainly McDonald's chips...
However, all this is massive progress and I feel quite buoyed by it! I even managed a wedding on Saturday!

RNJ3007 · 29/07/2013 09:35

Fee I get that all the time - it is bile, and whatever saliva you have swallowed. I had it happen when meds started not working, unfortunately, and even now from about 5-7am I'm like that. Grim.

waves DD is exhausted after an awful night - ended up in with us. She's got even more blisters today - over 300! Including inside her ears, nose, lips, on the palms of her hands, soles of feet and genitalia... Lots of calpol, antihistamines and ViraSoothe. She's gone to a recently recovered friend's house just now so I can get sorted to head to hospital.

Got to cancel my physio appointment as can't get her looked after tomorrow. Not good as I am in so much pain right now. Managed some melon and raspberries this morning. 4.5w to go. And just been reminded it is my birthday tomorrow. Really CBA.

LucindaE · 29/07/2013 11:02

RNJ Oh no,poor you and poor DD that must be a very severe case, what do they recommend these days? So awful in this hot weather for her. And Sad about having that bile puking every morning still.
Feekerry I can only echo the advice of LittleMachine and others, mother hen is most worried about your ketones after puking up bile like that. I used to find it was accompanied by nice phlegm I'd swallowed, which was disgusting beyond belief.
wavesandsmiles A great idea, those fortisip ice lollies.
Becca I was wondering how you are doing, and glad you feel a teeny bit better.
Jen and Everyone How are things?

I spoke too soon.

Have spent the last two hours puking up all meds and lots of bile... Grim!

feekerry · 29/07/2013 13:09

thank you. i am off to hospital in a bit due to massive ketones and uncontrollable brown vile stuff coming up. i can't understand how it can be so bad so sudden. i am nearly 12 weeks now and its at its worse now than what it ever has been. its like food poisoning only i haven't eaten anything to be poisoned.
i can't believe a double dose of ondansatron isn't touching it.

Beccadugs · 29/07/2013 13:12

Good luck fee, I really feel for you, had the same this morning, even out of my nose. On top of everything it really burnt.

Perhaps the baby is having a growth spirt so you are having a hormone surge?!

LucindaE · 29/07/2013 13:18

Oh, no both Feekerry and Becca. Feekerry I am glad you are going in as I don't like the sound of that 'brown stuff' that could even be blood from the stomach, and must be investigated quickly. Bile tends to be yellowish.

Lucinda They suggest calpol for fever, antihistamines (which she's on for allergies anyhow) and ViraSoothe/Aqueous calamine cream for topical relief. And keeping her as cool as possible.

Hospital just made me laugh - offered to book consultant for first available appointment... Second week of September. Epic fail! Have my fave midwife chasing up for me as I should have an appointment a week from here!!! CTG was not wonderful today, and BP was borderline, but no protein spill. Follow up on Thursday. Oh, and contracting noticeably every 8 mins on CTG. Joyous.

LittleMachine · 29/07/2013 16:28

Hope they've sorted you out in hospital Fee.
I had a terrible morning, but keeping fluids down this afternoon. Feel guilty for putting DS in nursery when I'm off work, but he's so go go go and I needed a rest.

Beccadugs · 29/07/2013 18:07

I am still feeling terrible, but have started bleeding. I can't believe it. So far 4 weeks of feeling like death to have bleeding now, surely this isn't fair?!

LittleMachine · 29/07/2013 20:12

Try not to panic Becca, I had weeks of bleeding in my last pregnancy, as so many people do and it was all fine. I'm sure that little monkey making you so sick is just fine and it's just you suffering!

I've just returned from my reassurance scan, saw a great heartbeat, but only dated at 7 weeks tomorrow, so I've got ages of this to go! Lovely to see though and I am reassured.

LucindaE · 29/07/2013 20:36

Becca can you get a scan for reassurance that the heartbeat is still there or is it too early? Hugs, that is so nerve wracking.
Sorry for everyone suffering and I do hope as others say
Feekerry has had fluids and tests.
RNJ I am surprised that there isn't a better treatment now, I remember calamine lotion being the treatment when I had it as a kid - I was just wondering - isn't it connected to shingles, my mother said there was a wonderful alternative health remedy cream to put on for that which lessened the inflammation - I just wish I remember what it was called, and I wonder if the same thing applies to chicken pox. Poor you, lack of sleep and Hyperemesis. Mentally urging baby to stay inside, not as if s/he'll listen to me...

Are you at term RNJ?

RNJ3007 · 29/07/2013 21:29

Thanks Lucinda - day 4 is notoriously the worst; and that was today. Am wrecked. Thanks for the stay put thoughts!

LittleMachine No, I'm not quite! 35w3d today. Argh!

Becca I bled every time I was sick from 5-12w. Now almost there. Hope it all turns out ok for you.

To everyone else, may your ketones stay under 2, your nausea be manageable and your sickness be minimal.

Beccadugs · 29/07/2013 21:46

Thanks everyone, it is so great to share experiences, and very reassuring that you can be sick as a dog, still have bleeding, and it be alright in the end.
Tried some plain pasta for supper. BAD plan.

Sally8655 · 29/07/2013 23:16

Hi all

Sorry everybody seems to be suffering badly at the moment.
Fee- I hope your better soon and fluids help.
Becca- I too would ask for a scan just to put your m

Sally8655 · 29/07/2013 23:25

Oops, pressed enter by mistake!
I'll continue- becca- Just to put your mind at rest.
Rnj- I hope little one stays in a little longer for you and your other little one gets better soon. It must be really hard

I'm getting lots if uncomfortable stretching and weird pain. I'm sure it's all normal but doesn't help with the sickness as it feels yuk. Headaches are common for me now too.
My belly seems to be real heavy and huge, Also strange as its my first pregnancy and I heard that you don't start to show till much later. I'm only 14 weeks. But already I'm having to support it when I walk and move around.

Not been sick for 2 days now but really nauseous. Dizziness is also back a little but think that's probably down to the lack of food again.

Hoping that it'll pass in a few weeks like normal sickness!

LittleMachine · 30/07/2013 08:34

Sally I was noticeably pregnant by 14 weeks. The parents in school all started asking me when I was due then. I was in maternity stuff by 13 weeks. I have a short body so the only way is outwards!

Bit of relief for me this morning. I got up to be sick at half 3 and I have been ok since then. Also don't have diarrhoea for the first time since I went on cyclizine. Going to try some toast.

RNJ how is DD? And how are you? I hope those contractions have died down.

Fee are you out of hospital? Hope you're ok.

RNJ3007 · 30/07/2013 09:09

Thanks Sally Another rough night... We're currently in nighties on sofa watching Peppa Pig! What a way to spend my birthday.

Little DD is starting to crust over! Yay! Contractions are a little sporadic now, but uncomfortable. Will be rechecked on Thursday. What fun!

LucindaE · 30/07/2013 09:41

Oh, dear, sending cyber pats to all. Champagne I was wondering how you are, you are gradually moving forwards on the board.
Becca How are things now? and Feekerry?
RNJ I am so glad those crusts are coming on DD. What torment!
I think the weight loss made my belly more obvious by fourteen weeks, too, I think that may be partly it? If a woman loses weight, you don't expect her belly to get bigger, except...Grin
Hope Everyone is coping.

Hey all. I am sorry that everyone is feeling so rotten! I guess we have to try to hang in there!

I had my booking appt yesterday, got a roasting from the midwife about ketones and not eating enough. She said she suspected I am a bit dehydrated and I 'need to do better'. Then I vomited when she took blood. Fun times - I am normally fine with that sort of thing.

I worked really hard on eating yesterday, I really made myself eat 2 meals and a snack, and am hoping to see some ketone reduction in the next few days. I am still feeling really sick and heaving a lot, but kept yesterday's food down.

I haven't eaten anything today, but I am psyching myself up for that.

Hugs to all, I really hope everyone starts to feel better soon.

LucindaE · 30/07/2013 11:02

Jen Sorry you are feeling rotten too - I don't know what she meant by 'you have to do better' that's quite annoying,Sad you are fighting your hardest to keep those ketones down, congratulations on eating.
Becca and Everyone as below...

Morning all,

Now having brown bleeding - so am on the EPUs books. If it continues tomorrow then I will need another scan.
Feeling AWFUL today, bile out of my nose again before I got up. Managed a McDonalds hash brown (don't judge me I really fancied one!) but it did not want to be my friend.
Feeling very sorry for myself, but hoping the continuing sickness is a good thing!
