Hyperemesis Support

We need a new thread.

I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.

There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

I used to include extracts from MOH's wonderful website
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos/
but I think that makes this link less visible so am merely putting the link. The information on this site is invaluable for sufferers, with information about medications, coping strategies, hospital admissions, useful links, advice for family members, and much more.

I would like to thank MOH and Everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.

I'm drinking very cold juice too. I just put a little bit in the glass at a time to sip so it doesn't go warm.
I miss tea Sad

I've decided to give the b6 a try. I've had a bad day today. I haven't got my ondansatron yet, I'm going to Menorca next week so I want to save it for then (only prescribed 7).

Bless my little DS - when I was being sick this morning he was rubbing my back and giving me little hugs, and then he got me a pretend cup of tea from his kitchen. That's why this is all worth it in the end.

Hope everyone has had a relaxing Saturday.

RNJ3007 · 27/07/2013 20:02

Even frozen juice cubes aren't staying down... Off to AN ward for fluids. Have made my throat bleed with the being sick.

DD is thankfully asleep. She has unmentionably located blisters... having to pee in a bath. Poor kid. Have written hubby a list of instructions, hope to be home in the morning.

LittleMachine · 27/07/2013 20:12

RN you poor thing. I hope the fluids help you feel better. And your poor DD. What crappy luck.

RNJ3007 · 27/07/2013 20:17

Thanks LittleMachine Me too!

I hear from other threads that waves has escaped HG horror... Hope she returns here to give us an update!

LittleMachine · 27/07/2013 20:24

Yes Smile I hope she's feeling amazing right now.

feekerry · 27/07/2013 20:46

oh rjn that's awful. i really feel for you. do you think they would induce you early or something to get you past the line. i would be pushing for that in your situation. i know they probably wouldn't but you are so close!x

wavesandsmiles · 27/07/2013 21:08

Very rude brief check in. Caspian Nicholas John was born at 1707 today at 39 + 4 weeks weighing 7lb 3.

I'm shattered but over the moon.

jenpatnim · 27/07/2013 21:15

Sally, glad you are feeling a bit better!

My soup from lunch came back up, so I have had a tiny amount of dinner, but I am not confident of it staying down.

Sipping water and hoping for the best.

feekerry · 27/07/2013 21:29

Sally8655 · 28/07/2013 00:14

Congrats wave xx

Tallyra · 28/07/2013 08:14

I'm so happy for you waves, congratulations!!!!Grin

RNJ3007 · 28/07/2013 09:18

waves You are amazing! Good size bub too. Well done, massive congratulations, great name.xxx

fee They won't induce. I had such a terrifying reaction to synto with my first that it is all over my notes to not induce. I'm sat at 3cm and mostly effaced. Head very low. Hoping that if needed, a sweep or AROM will get things going. At 37 weeks, I'll hit the RRL capsules and as much pineapple as I can stomach and hope for the best.

Feeling a bit better this morning. Off home to the pox-riddled one in a couple of hours!

wavesandsmiles · 28/07/2013 09:52

Hello everyone. I'm loving that I am at home and don't have a PICC line in. I have had a cup of tea and haven't been sick today!!! Feeling nervous about eating.... I weighed myself and am below my pre pg weight but only a little, although apparently i will lose more naturally the next few weeks.

My labour was very on off due to my tiredness and lack of calories, meaning my uterus wasn't very efficient. I had a stretch and sweep at 10 in the morning but was already 4 to 5 cm dilated by then. At 1.30pm the midwife broke my wters as things had slowed down again. By that stage I was 8 to 9 cm. I then got in the birth pool. I needed gas and air for the last hour as it hurt and I was so tired.... I got tearful and the midwife assumed I was still dilating but in fact the baby was already starting to come down. He was in an awkward position which made it harder, but I think being in water helped. Anyway, I had him in the pool and we sat in there for a while, before I was pretty much lifted out I was so exhausted!

He straight away started feeding, and has been ever so good.

My new challenge is to eat to build up energy again, and for feeding. I'm just a bit scared of it really!

Sending Thanks to you all. rnj in particular I hope that you have not too bad a time in these past few weeks. And it really really is worth all the sickness and admissions. Although I must confess I couldn't wait to leave hospital, hence the fact I was out less than 5 hours after delivering.

lucinda you have been truly amazing. I wish I could send you real Thanks. Without this support I would have emotionally crumbled months ago. But here I am, having carried my little boy to just 3 days off due date, and he is healthy. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Hope you don't mind if I hang around, would be happy to share bits of advice and tips x

LittleMachine · 28/07/2013 11:06

Congratulations waves, you must feel wonderful. Start small if you're worried about eating and build it up. I'm sure you'll be fine.

LucindaE · 28/07/2013 11:22

wavesandsmiles Wondeful news, I don't think I have ever been so happy for anyone who's delivered as I am for you after what you have been through- the emotional trauma, being sick throughout, and IV most days, and finally a prolonged labour. I am so glad you had a water birth.
Thanks Thanks Thanks Thanks. I am so glad I could have been of any help at all in such a dreadful pregnancy, I often felt quite helpless at not being able to put things right! What a splendid name, that would appeal to me, I am a names geek. So glad you retained the tea and I so hope eating becomes less of a terror as time goes on.
It is lovely of you to stick around, mutual help is what this thread is all about, and I am sure I speak for everyone in saying I would be sorry to see you go, though you will be very busy; besides, who is likely to know more about Hyperemesis after your experiences?
RNJ Oh dear, I do feel for you being admitted when DD has chicken pox and in such painful places. You are next on the list for happy news, but not too early!
Sally I'm glad you will complain, that was barbaric.
Feekerry How are things?
Jen How are the ketones, I hope you managed to get them down with the aid of juice? Is jelly or the juice of tinned fruit no good or ice lollies?
Littlemachine I wonder why they gave you such a miserable amount of the B6, that's odd, is it megadoses? Even so, I am sure B vitamins, being water soluable, are never toxic?
Back soon. Apologies to anyone overlooked.
Lucinda

LittleMachine · 28/07/2013 11:59

Sorry Lucinda, I wasn't clear in my post. I meant I was only prescribed 7 ondansatron.

I already had the B6 from when I was TTC.

jenpatnim · 28/07/2013 13:41

waves - I am so happy for you, and glad you will be sticking around.

Lucinda, thanks for asking. The ketones are back down to +2, which I am relieved about. Ice lollies are good, and I did manage to eat a wee bit of dinner last night. I was vomiting furiously at 3am, but it was all bile coming up rather than food so I am assuming that I managed to digest it.

Still on the ondansetron and doing my best to eat, even though I feel so nauseated all the time that the thought of food is abhorrant, I am even less keen to go back for another session of IV fluids, injections galore and measuring my urine. So we carry on . . .

LucindaE · 28/07/2013 18:58

Jen Good nows about ketones and lollies. Do y ou find flat full sugar coke bearable? Throwing up bile is horrible, but as you say, at least it meant the food was digested.
LittelMachine That makes sense - but how mean to give you such a limited supply of Ondansetron.
RNJ I hope you are feeling a bit better for fluids.
Hope Feekerry and Everyone coping. Still delighted about wavesandsmiles that made my day.

Lucinda, I don't like coke at the best of times, and when I tried a sip to try to help the nausea, I found it to be repulsive. I'm useless, lol

RNJ3007 · 28/07/2013 20:25

jen Maybe try flat fanta? That's been my one today!

Lucinda Feeling a bit less grim. Exhausted though! Back in for monitoring in the morning. Just need to get through 12 more days to hit the 'safe' zone.

LucindaE · 28/07/2013 20:38

Hugs, RNJ.
Jen Oh, dear, then my old favourites Lucozade (flat) and Iron Bru (also falt) no good either, probably. I even used to drink the juice from tinned fruit. The unhealthier it was, the more it seemed to soothe...

hi folks, quick one as i could really do with some advice/suggestions...
hg has been controllable with the drugs and was being sick probably twice a day however since about 6pm last night i literally cannot stop being sick. i have nothing to bring up but this horrid brown acid tasting stuff comes up and a fair amount of it even tho i am not eating or drinking. i woke up about 8 times last night actually heaving and had to run to toilet. i don't understand what's happening..

what is this yucky acid like liquid coming up when i haven't eaten or drunk and why all of a sudden am i vom uncontrollably? the drugs aren't even touching it..... help please???

wavesandsmiles · 29/07/2013 08:04

jen have you tried ice cold peach squash? I never used to drink it but it completely got me through! I used the fruit and barley one.

How is your DD now Rnj? DS had chicken pox when I was around 17 weeks, I was in hospital at the time so he couldn't come up. I felt so guilty that I couldn't give him cuddles. Then DD got it too. At least they are now immune.

If anyone is worried about weight loss, see if you can be prescribed fortisip drinks. They are AWFUL but i diluted mine with water and froze them into lollies.

My appetite isn't really back, think it is more psychological, and the fact my stomach has shrunk a bit, but no sickness since giving birth! I was sick a bit in labour, but my mind was more bothered about breathing through the contractions at that stage!

LittleMachine · 29/07/2013 08:47

Feekerry, sorry you are so poorly. In my last pregnancy, that happened to me quite a few times, I didn't know how I could be so sick when I'd eaten nothing. Only stopped when I went to hospital for IV.

Do you have ketone dipsticks? It sounds like a trip to the hospital is in order for you. Don't try and suffer through it.
