Shazzamattazzerly · 02/06/2013 17:11

Hi everyone,

This thread is for all you incessant worriers out there, not necessarily limited to IVF-ers, although I get the feeling the people who have had trouble TTC are more prone to worrying than others! We have filled our first thread (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/pregnancy/1721178-Pregnant-IVF-Worriers) but there is more worrying to do so here we are.

A few of us graduated from the IVF thread (link below) and are having a go at our own thread to get out of the other IVF-ers hair! So get your roomy jogging bottoms on for some virtual hand holding, mutual symptom spotting and staying sane until the next scan date.

Perhaps to clarify our Islands in the Stream song choice. DH and I really enjoyed watching the Gavin and Stacey series. In it Nessa and Mick do an Islands in the Stream duet, which is hilarious. So rest assured that there is a hint of irony when we sing this to Bella :-).

Dildals · 07/08/2013 02:28

For Elton John I have no excuse. DH loves Elton John. And I think Elton John is better for a newborn than for me to inflict my song choice on (Kasabian, QOTSA, Wolfmother, that type of stuff).

MarianaTrench · 07/08/2013 06:35

I don't know, Wolfmother sounds kind of appropriate. My DH likes a wide range of unsuitable guitar based music but also has the ability to sing all songs in a club style, which apparently renders them suitable for children.

Both DDs have been trying to get up since 4am. DH had to get in with DD1 to keep her there and I have had DD2 sleeping on me, as that was the only place she'd settle. It means I only doze though, so I'll be shattered again today. I wonder if they were both cold?

vallinnapod · 07/08/2013 08:54

LOL at the singing ladies. I used to (and still do some times) singing Mockingbird to DS but I make up a million and one odd things that 'Papa' is gonna bring! DS now sings Twinkle Twinkle with me which is pretty cute!

Dildals glad to hear Bella's appetite is increasing and that you are getting some boob relief. DS didn't eat from my left boob for ages. The only time I had any sort of chapped nipples was from trying to express the left boob to stop it exploding.

Mariana - I have learnt there is no rhyme or reason as to the random wakings of small children!

Twinkle I had actually heard it was the other way round - that the sperm took development forward after Day 3. You can go insane trying to look at why the egg didn't implant. As has been mentioned on here before if it is a sticky embryo, it is a sticky embryo. With DS I had two embryos put back, same quality, one stuck and one didn't. My first FET had a better quality embryo than my second but the first failed and the second was successful.

Expat - A snooze room?! Any jobs going... Wink

AFM - no symptoms Sad, scan on Friday...can't come soon enough.

vallinnapod · 07/08/2013 09:09

SO just tried out the chinese gender predictor. Says this DC will be a girl. However, I then put in DS's dates and it said he would be a girl too Grin

So, does that me this DC is a boy?! ConfusedGrin

Dildals · 07/08/2013 09:27

I did the Chinese predictor test too, and it predicted a boy for me, so I think it is safe to say it's not v accurate! (about 50%!)

twinklestar2 · 07/08/2013 09:31

Thanks val, you're right: I need to stop driving myself crazy! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my mentalling!!

keepitgoing · 07/08/2013 09:38

dildals i'm checking in for the first time for ages, and am devastated to see your news about Georgia. But at the same time huge congratulations for the gorgeous Bella, and I'm so pleased that she is feeding well. I'm thinking of you and your family at this time.

I'll be back later - am off to try and get into the NHS system at nearly 24 weeks...

ExpatAl · 07/08/2013 09:40

Twinkle, this was your first attempt, right? Sorry if I'm confusing you with someone else. The first attempt is usually to see how you react to the drugs and to look for potential problems - things that might need a tweak. If I were you I'd ask your IVF consultant. Perhaps they'll give you a higher dose, or like me, a lower dose but an extra day of medication. There's all kinds of things to be done. One failed attempt definitely doesn't mean it's all over.

ExpatAl · 07/08/2013 09:43

Keep, welcome back! Are you in the UK now? Settled in okay?

twinklestar2 · 07/08/2013 09:47

Thx expat :)

fairypangolin · 07/08/2013 11:10

dildals you are a QOTSA fan while DH is mad for Elton John? Sounds like a match made in heaven...;-) DH is also a 'heavy metal' enthusiast and he has got DS hooked on the same, although they wait until I am out of the house before rocking out. You and Bella may do the same to your DH one day!

expat a SNOOZE ROOM? Don't tell me you are one of those lazy Brussels bureaucrats propping up the EC? :-) Or more specifically, don't tell the Daily Mail. Seriously, I'm glad to hear someone else is equally exhausted. I had a huge deadline at work last week that necessitated working through the weekend and several v long (eg 14 hr) days. Since then I have been trying to keep to 9-5 or shorter but am finding even that a huge struggle. I really can't concentrate on anything. Luckily I am going on holiday for a week as of this Friday but this is making me feel more pressurised to get a number of things sorted before then.

keep glad to hear you've made it back, hope all is well.

twinks I also had 2 embryos (5 day blastocyst, both 4AA) put back but only one took. If we had any real understanding why some embryos develop and others don't IVF and conceiving generally would be an entirely different affair. Please take comfort in that to a very large extent it is just luck and next time it may well be different.

MarianaTrench · 07/08/2013 11:14

Welcome back keep, hope you get into the system ok. I had to enlist at a new hospital at about 24 weeks and it was fairly straightforward.

vall, thanks, that'll be my next 4am medley.

MarianaTrench · 07/08/2013 11:19

God. I frequently catch DD1 and DH dancing to Bowie or Iggy Pop. It's appalling. And the lyrics are totally inappropriate for a three year old.

I keep my popular music listening for when I'm in the car. Alone. Which isn't often.

ExpatAl · 07/08/2013 11:33

No Fairy I'm not. Not exactly.

Shazza, we have about 5 names each for boy/girl and we intend to see how we feel at the time. Really peed off with the royal baby stealing one of our choices. No I'm not ready at all and starting to panic!

Ginestas · 07/08/2013 12:47

Just a quick post... All was fine with the baby at the scan and we're having a GIRL!! I'm really thrilled and excited about all the shopping possibilities. The Chinese gender predictor failed to work its magic again Grin

There were a couple of things picked up at the scan for me to worry myself sick about. It looks like one of my fibroids has grown to about 5cm and is quite near the cervix, so we have another scan at 28 weeks. The uterine blood flow was also high, which could indicate high blood pressure later in pregnancy and means a scan to check the placenta at 36 weeks and me delivering before 41 weeks. I'm thinking with the fibroid they may recommend a c section and v much doubt it will be a late baby. The dr didn't seem worried and just said they could both cause problems in later pregnancy but not now.

It was amazing seeing little fingers and toes and the baby swallowing. I sobbed like a baby when they told us the sex. Makes it seem so real!

Lots of love to all. Will catch up properly later. Sorry for the me me me post. X

Ps another QOTSA (and Josh Homme, mmmm) fan here :)

Buzzybee123 · 07/08/2013 13:15

just checking for scan news :)

According to the chinese predictor i'm 42,(born in 73),and I conceived in Sept (I'm due in Jan), and its a boy,I've put the same info to two other sites another one says I'm having a girl and the last one says a boy Hmm

neither my husband or I can actually sing but that has never stopped us Grin

I'm going to have a bit of a whinge, I'm over 14 weeks and still feel like shite, I've come home early from work as I had to throw up in a patients bathroom Hmm I thought the 2nd trimester was when I was supposed to be blooming Hmm I just feel emotional and disgusting Sad

vallinnapod · 07/08/2013 13:15

Woohoo Ginestas! I am so pleased all it well. Trust in the docs as to the fibroid/potential high BP and relish the fact you get to see your LO at least twice more before her appearance!

Buzzybee123 · 07/08/2013 13:22

x posts gin congrats on a little girl :)

MarianaTrench · 07/08/2013 15:44

Hurrah for a girl gin and it doesn't sound much to worry about. Girls names are the most fun to choose too, if you want any suggestions let me know!

Has the famed gender predictor ever got it right? It should have a 50% success rate. It seems less than that.

buzzy I felt dreadful until about 14 weeks with DD1 and when I was feeling cheated that the second trimester wasn't going to be nausea free it did slowly clear.

keepitgoing · 07/08/2013 16:32

congratulations gin! It's so exciting! I agree with Mariana that those things don't sound too bad, and give you more chances to see the little darling.

buzzy sorry you're still feeling crappy. I've not been glowing, and have loads of spots, but have been feeling really quite good since maybe 15/16 weeks. Though I never had bad nausea, I did go off food until then. Also less tired.

expat wow you're so nearly there. When are you stopping work? Do you have a date now? Sorry if i missed all that.

dildals hope little Bella is still feeding well. What does she weigh?

As for me, I'm back in the UK trying to sort out a million things. The GP receptionist was not overly enthusiastic to have me and my complications there, and at first told me i have to wait till the 19th. Eventually found an appointment for me on the 12th - I have to see the GP first, then be referred to the midwife. How does it work - are the midwives connected to the various hospitals, so I'd have to choose which hospital I want to give birth at? When would you get to go round the birth centre - before or after choosing?

I am also going to start work in a couple of weeks, at 26 weeks (!), and planning to work up till 36 weeks. It'll be mostly from home though, so hopefully won't be too stressful, and the money will be welcome!

I have just done my workout dvd, and now I'm sitting down I think Kip is trying to copy me - my tummy is popping out all over the place. The kicks still seem to move around a lot, so I imagine s/he still has plenty of room to move. I wonder when they start to get jammed.

fairypangolin · 07/08/2013 16:44

gin yay, another girl for the thread!

buzzy i'm really sorry you are still feeling so rotten. The 'blooming' part didn't start for me until about 18 weeks if that's any consolation. Definitely over now though!

keep I don't think you have to see your GP first. A friend of mine just had a similar problem with an unhelpful GP and I found this: www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/antenatal-midwife-care-pregnant.aspx#close. You can look up your local maternity services (I don't think they are necessarily tied to a particular hospital) and contact them directly.

vallinnapod · 07/08/2013 16:46

Keep you can self-refer if you know which hospital you want to go to. Depending on your hospital will depend on whether you can tour. I wasn't allowed to look round mine (UCH). They cited infection control but the common assumption is lack of resource to show you around.

keepitgoing · 07/08/2013 16:47

at least you bloomed for a bit fairy!!

putthecrispsDOWN · 07/08/2013 17:05

keep welcome back my love!
gin welcome to the world of pink...whether you like it or not! mariana is great at suggesting names, I can recommend! My list is a bit old lady/out there but she still came up trumps!
dildals I love heavy metal and country music. You can't go wrong with Dolly. I am a superfan -loser- of Dolly and have inflicted her on Dd since she was in the womb. I'm an assistant head sp have to do loada of assemblies and most of my assemblies are about country music stars, I am slowly brainwashing my teenagers into loving Dolly and they find it quite amusing! I also play drums in a band (just rock, not too heavy) so Dd has had all sorts of music around her since being born...she did her first festival aged 1. (with baby ear protectors) to see me play. I realise this makes me sound a bit odd but I think music is hugely important...children recognise rhythm and melody very early on and it is very soothing so as long as you repeat the same thing it will give Bella an instant connection to you when she hears it. Lovely image of you Kenny and Dolly-Ing by her incubator! I'd like to say I'm really open minded when it comes to music but Dd came home from nursery singing 'call me maybe' and I gave her a Hmm look before realising I was being unreasonable!

buzzy my sickness didn't ease until this week really...am 19weeks on Friday. Am still sick the odd day and nauseous (sp.?) most days but it it getting better.Keep the faith and hope it will ease for you too. Still knackered and moany though. Spent the morning moaning to DH that I felt sick and refusing to eat anything, then as soon as got back to the hotel ordered huge sandwich, chips, crisps and pot of tea and ate the whole lot. Poor boy, having to put up with me!
