Waterproof Mattress Protector for waters breaking - Are you buying/using one?

Hi,

I am wondering whether any of you have purchased or used a waterproof mattress protector just in case waters break in bed?

If you did get one, which one did you get? Any recommendations?

I'm just gonna get a pack of pampers bed mats, think they're about £8 for 7, and ill probably put two on just incase....I have a brand new bed and the mattress is memory foam topped so it won't be easy to clean!
I thought about getting a waterproof sheet but dh not keen on the idea of sleeping on what feels like a bin bag lol

They are quite useful for possetting babies too. Even if you don't co sleep, chances are you'll be holding your baby in bed and they'll be sick, or nappy will leak or they'll knock over your tea. So yes, recommended but not directly because of breaking waters. You could just put a beach towel under the sheet if that was all you were thinking of.

I got the disposable bed mats and my water did go in bed so glad i did! Just popped it in under the fitted sheet. I used one in the car on the way to hospital just in case more came out too. The rest I used for the first few days of sleeping with no nappy. x

I've got some of the big mats from Boots. Haven't put one on the bed yet, but I guess now I'm 37+3 I should think about putting one on!

Yep. We've got a waterproof cat pee proof sheet on the bed. There was a thread recently where a good few people said they'd ruined their mattress when their waters went in bed.

Yes my waters only broke twice out of four pg's but both times it was in bed at around 4am.
Those disposable mats are very useful to have in anyway, TMI but I slept on them after birth when even three maternity mattresses leaked

I put a hippychick mattress protector on my bed when pregnant and it has been useful so much in the past 2 yrs. Worth the money and feels fine. I use a normal sheet over the top.

On the recommendation of a MNetter I bought puppy training pads from Poundstretcher - 7 for £1.50. In the end they went while I was sitting on the (leather!) sofa. Useful after birth too to protect the sheets.

I didn't bother with DD and luckily my waters went in the bath at near full dilation, so advanced labour.

I did with DS, but only used the Huggies dry nites disposable things (cheaper & bigger than the maternity equivalents). I figured they'd be useful for my home birth and for DD's potty training they were. My waters went at an earlier stage this time, but on the toilet & leaked slowly, so I used a pad, until I was delivering, when they went as I was pushing, so there was already something to protect the bed by then!!

I've been and got some from boots today, will put one on the bed and keep one in the car too,I'm hoping mine go somewhere convenient like in the shower or on the loo

Just bought one his week (IKEA) and feel it will be useful later as well as I always had leaky boobs in first months of BF...
Plus somebody mentioned posseting,so true...:)

Yes I bought one a couple of weeks ago from Ikea. This one m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/60152774/
Hope the link works. If not its called Skydda. It's not plasticky at all so not noisy to sleep on. It has a kind of terry towelling top layer, so very soft. It was cheap so I figured it was worth the investment just in case.

I got the disposable children's bed wetting mats and my waters went in one large pop in bed and it was fine none went on the bed. We also kept one in the car. I used them for a few days after birth incase bleeding was heavy but luckily mine wasn't. I also gave one to my sister who was also pregnant at the same time. She was very grateful for it as her waters went I Waitrose so would have ruined their car on the way home if she didn't have it.

We purchased 2 of these to put on top of the baby's mattress to protect it from vom and wee. I'm currently using one to sleep on too incase my waters go in bed like last time. Very good quality and the most reasonably priced ones we could find (apart from the ones that are basically a sheet of plastic that tent to rustle and aren't breathable, they're very cheap, but a pain imo).

Value shower curtains are the way forward. The 100% waterproof ones.
£3 from Dunelm, covers a double easy.

I know argos do good fitted ones ie not plasticky, with a terry towelling top layer. Havent invested in one for our bed, probably should do. Have them in single bed sizes for childrens beds and they are great - comfy, no rustling. Think £12 or £14 for single, not sure bout king size price...
