Waterproof Mattress Protector for waters breaking - Are you buying/using one?

Hi,

I am wondering whether any of you have purchased or used a waterproof mattress protector just in case waters break in bed?

If you did get one, which one did you get? Any recommendations?

This is the one we have. Great thing is that you can't feel it on the bed and it covers the whole top so no chance of it moving like a loose pad might do.

Below is the link to where we got it from, ours is the king size one but they have lots of sizes

Thanks everyone! :) Finally ordered the towelling one from amazon by comfort nights as it allows drying in tumble dryer too, whereas the ones from dunelm mill and debenhams don't allow tumble dry.

Got ours from Dunelm. Very comfy, jot plasticky.

I wouldn't worry about my waters breaking in bed (never did) but as general protection with little children & tots & babies in the house, not a bad idea at all. I'd get a quality washable one.

i used some waterproofsheets from www.brollysheets.co.uk/
although the shower curtains is a good suggestion!

I've bought a quilted protector from dunelm mill for £20. We got a gorgeous mattress about 2 years ago and I hate the thought that it may or may not get ruined by waters, leaky breasts, vomity children etc!
Was a bit worried about rolling off a pad or towel or them not being up to the job if the quantity of liquid is high so decided to bite the bullet on a full protector.
Went for the 'posher' quilted one so I hope it doesn't feel plastiky or too sweaty... Only 34 weeks so haven't used it yet but might put it on soon in case things happen early...

I did buy one but not for my waters, i bought it because i had leaky breasts from 24 weeks and cannot abide a bra in bed.

DD is now 8 Weeks and i am BF so the protector us still handy as i often wake in a wet patch which would be on the mattress if not for it!

i got a Fogarty one, nothing fancy.

Oh yeah, I should point out that I have a regular cotton mattress topper on top - I hate that plasticy rustling feeling too!

I bought this one it's not plasticky at all, I put a normal cotton mattress protector on top just in case but it would be fine without.

It's useful not just for water's breaking but also if you're co-sleeping, feeding in bed, or just leaking milk. I ruined our old mattress with leaking milk, but it needed replacing anyway, not risking the brand new one this time.

I got mine from ebay - I figured I'd chuck it out afterwards so didn't want to spend much... it was £2.35 including delivery!

I know argos do good fitted ones ie not plasticky, with a terry towelling top layer. Havent invested in one for our bed, probably should do. Have them in single bed sizes for childrens beds and they are great - comfy, no rustling. Think £12 or £14 for single, not sure bout king size price...

Value shower curtains are the way forward. The 100% waterproof ones.
£3 from Dunelm, covers a double easy.

We purchased 2 of these to put on top of the baby's mattress to protect it from vom and wee. I'm currently using one to sleep on too incase my waters go in bed like last time. Very good quality and the most reasonably priced ones we could find (apart from the ones that are basically a sheet of plastic that tent to rustle and aren't breathable, they're very cheap, but a pain imo).

I got the disposable children's bed wetting mats and my waters went in one large pop in bed and it was fine none went on the bed. We also kept one in the car. I used them for a few days after birth incase bleeding was heavy but luckily mine wasn't. I also gave one to my sister who was also pregnant at the same time. She was very grateful for it as her waters went I Waitrose so would have ruined their car on the way home if she didn't have it.

I have one for general freshness anyway - it's Fogarty (bought with mattress from Mattress Man) and isn't at all rustly.

I'm obviously very cheap as I put some black bin liners under the sheet and they worked fine

Hope the link works. If not its called Skydda. It's not plasticky at all so not noisy to sleep on. It has a kind of terry towelling top layer, so very soft. It was cheap so I figured it was worth the investment just in case.

Just bought one his week (IKEA) and feel it will be useful later as well as I always had leaky boobs in first months of BF...
Plus somebody mentioned posseting,so true...:)

I've been and got some from boots today, will put one on the bed and keep one in the car too,I'm hoping mine go somewhere convenient like in the shower or on the loo

I didn't bother with DD and luckily my waters went in the bath at near full dilation, so advanced labour.

I did with DS, but only used the Huggies dry nites disposable things (cheaper & bigger than the maternity equivalents). I figured they'd be useful for my home birth and for DD's potty training they were. My waters went at an earlier stage this time, but on the toilet & leaked slowly, so I used a pad, until I was delivering, when they went as I was pushing, so there was already something to protect the bed by then!!

On the recommendation of a MNetter I bought puppy training pads from Poundstretcher - 7 for £1.50. In the end they went while I was sitting on the (leather!) sofa. Useful after birth too to protect the sheets.
