no there's no party, just me, rather stouter than I'd hoped to be at this stage and trying to sort out the wedding which is indeed on Saturday.

It's my first day off work today, so I'm starting to get a bit more excited, although it's pretty hard to do anything in this heat. All I've got to do now is take up my wedding outfit (I was advised to leave it this late in case the bump had a growth spurt!) and then make sure it's all going to plan on Friday. And relax in the meantime... We're not having a big do, partly because of the bump, and partly because we're both of us quite a long way from 21 - just registry office then meal afterwards, but I think it'll be just right for us! And at least there's no danger of me getting embarrassingly drunk!

Slink - that's fabby news about the tongue-tie. Isn't it wonderful when people are so unexpectedly nice.

Arabica - hope today's appointment goes well.

And hope everyone else is surviving the heat. We haven't had the storms yet down here and are still sweltering!

Helllloooooooooooooo!
How are you all?
I must say, I have missed my mumsnet crew a great deal and it's nice to catch up.
Thanks so much to all of you for the kind messages and congratulations re Charlie's arrival. He's lovely; we're all doing great if a bit tired and sore. A c/s seems to cause you to be sore in the strangest of places - my right rib and shoulder are almost as sore as the lower tummy!!
DH was very impressed by the musnet sorority and brought a thread printout to the hospital. I was laughing at the posts about him being efficient. He is. But he's also afraid of upsetting me right now which is a good thing...
Mygirl - has myboy had his MN tutorial yet?
Slink - so sorry to hear about your handbag but delighted to hear about the tongue tie being mended. You've seen the best and worst of people this week.
LOL at ProfYaffle re chinese buffets as a way of starting labour. Maybe we should post it as a tip? The buffet was bloody good, incidentally. It did cause me some concern about the likliehood of vomming in the operating theatre only 6 hours later but thankfully, I got to hold on to my banana fritters!
Arabica - fingers crossed for you today. Hope the fluid levels look ok. Let us know how you got on.
2cats - cannot believe the wedding is in Sat. How are the nerves? My only advice - try to enjoy it. Savour it. It goes by so quickly!
Hi to the newbies. Best of luck to you all. It's horrible going through the first few weeks when you're scared about how things will go but this thread will be a huge support. Many of us are holding our recently born babies so perhaps that will reassure you a little bit.
I'll do the birth announcement thing later today or tomorrow.
Take care all, meantime.

SnowBoo · 05/07/2006 20:18

Can i just say i'm really scared about the birth. With ds it was 5 hours, gas & air, and felt really good getting him out. But all i can remember now is the pain when i had to give birth to my 2nd boy at 17weeks pg. It was the most painful pain i've ever had to deal with and am now associating labour with that rather than with my happy labour.
Any advice? Losing sleep over it and worrying myself silly.

Sorry if a bit depressing....Feel a bit better for typing it out thou.

chickster1981 · 05/07/2006 21:45

hi well i am now 15weeks this week well happy all is going well but.....

few days ago i stood up and notice a lump size of apple i would say on my right side at the top of my bump. anyhow i pushed it back in if that makes sence (it was kinda trapped right near my rib cage) now i feel in bit of pain like brusing on the inside have i done anything wrong or is this normal?? or does anyone know what it could of bin ??

diddle · 05/07/2006 21:53

spub - very interested to hear about your pain from the CS. the first night i was in hospital after my CS i had major pains in my right ribs and shoulder, enough for me to need painkillers and it took my breath away, a doctor had to be called for me. I have heard of quite a few instances of this shoulder pain after CS. mine wore off after a few days and i occassionally get rib pain now a week and a half later. how odd.

Hi, Just popping in to wish Arabica good luck . I didnt realise you were so close now. The time has flown by since DS was born. Hope everything is OK ,when is your section date?

Arabica · 05/07/2006 22:56

Hi everyone, appt went well and I can stick to my C-section date of 27 July. Baby will get thorough check up and a little stay in special care whilst they decide whether it needs shunting, but because the head circumference is still within normal range, it looks unlikely! We were obviously v pleased, then went into panic-buying mode and spent the rest of the day at Ikea getting things like chests of drawers to put the baby clothes in, you know, the ones I am yet to collect up from various friends because up to now have been too superstitious!
Determined to enjoy rest of pregnancy now. It's lunch with the girls, manicures, champagne and baby shopping all the way now.
best of all though is NO MORE SCANS!

HellKat · 06/07/2006 03:30

Morning all.
Grrrrrrr pg insomnia! Keep getting boiling hot feet & having 2 fans on seems to make no difference so last 4 days I've been grabbing 3 hrs in the afternoon. I'll be so pleased when this heat lifts.
Had my consultants appt yesterday & looks like we'll be meeting our little girl alot earlier than Sept! They're overly concerned about her size (being too big) as I'm now measuring nearly 3 wks ahead. Apparently, because I'm only small built, I should technically measure 1 week behind. Anyhoo, we've got to go for another growth scan in 3 wks, see the consultant the week after & take it from there. As I'm still 2cms dilated though & still having odd contractions (plus she's decided to engage herself) it could be earlier. Good thing is they're not concerned about me labouring early now they know she's a big lass
How's everyone coping with this icky heat?
Love to all, I'm off back to my pint of Dr Pepper & about to munch yet more ice cubes (going through a huge a bag every 3 days )

Arabica - that's fantastic news. I really hope that you get to enjoy the last few weeks of your pregnancy now. Hope you're not boiling too badly in the heat...

HK - Well done for holding on so long - and for once it may be a bit of a relief that she's a big girl. And I know it's hot, but a pint of Dr Pepper?!? Bleuch!

Snowboo - it must be hard trying not to remember that - even if you know in your head that this will be very different. Is there perhaps a midwife counsellor at the hospital that you could talk to beforehand? I know some places have them.

Mygirl - your wedding sounds perfect! Like you, we're trying not to have huge expectations, and relax about it all. Having said that, the nerves started to kick in last night, and I had all sorts of strange dreams about it. Up till now I've just been treating it a bit like work (much of what I do is organising events!) but now I think I've started to realise that this isn't work at all!

Hope everyone else is keeping well. We have a severe weather warning down here (wahey!) but it should all be gone by saturday.

FN · 06/07/2006 09:49

Slink - your bag snatch is absolutely disgusting, and glad Eden is doing well.

Arabica - great news on scan best of luck on the 27th

HK - glad all is ok with you too and good luck for what seems a very early birth

Hope you are all well

FN x

Arabica · 06/07/2006 13:24

HK how many weeks are you now? Is it 30wks? I've lost track...I saw a beautiful little girl yesterday during my visit to the special care unit. She'd been born at 29wks, and doing very well, breathing by herself.
I'm having a really good day today. Have eaten a family pack of crisps, been out for coffee with friends, booked a manicure and pedicure for next week and a hairdo for the weekend before my C-section. Seeing another friend for dinner tonight.

SnowBoo · 06/07/2006 13:49

HK, just to say my niece was born very prem and weighed 2lb 10oz. She was the tiniest little bundle i've ever seen and so pretty. She is now 17months and a little cheeky monkey.

So if yours arrives early i'm sure everything will be fine.

Will try and speak to the hosp about seeing their councellor. Might help to ease the feeling. Also have a real sense it will be very soon, like within days!!!!

Must get my bag packed....Job for later when i'm really shattered

Hey everyone! Jus wanna say thankyou for all your nice messages and I have an early scan tomorrow, I am 6 weeks. Will be 6 weeks + 2 days tomorrow and I am so worried they wont find a heartbeat. I had 2 miscarriages 2 years ago. 1 at 5 weeks, and a missed miscarriage at 7 1/2 to 8 weeks which I found out about at my 12 week scan and it was totally devastating. Have bn reading up on early scans and says that sometimes you have to be called bk in 2 weeks as it is common not to see anything at this stage. Really dont want this to happen to me. Ia m beside myself with worry as it is. I really wont sleep tonight. If I saw heartbeat I will be over the moon. I am praying so hard. Third time lucky hopefully. Anyone any tips on how to calm down, and does anyone have any info on getting a heartbeat at this stage??? Thanks so much xxxxx

wools · 06/07/2006 19:41

Hi girls,

Arabica - great news on your scan....thank goodness you don't have to have any more....Enjoy the rest of your pregancy now - good for you organising fun things to do.

HK - Could be seeing your little one sooner than you thought eh....Glad she's measuring well.

Caitlinsmummy - Wishing you all the very best for your scan tomorrow. I think sometimes they can see a hearbeat at 6 weeks - I do hope so.

Twocats - In case I don;t get a chance to log on tomorrow - have a wonderful wedding day - and make the most of it - it will fly by.

spub · 06/07/2006 20:17

Hi all,
Just a quickie. Hope you're all okay.
I've just posted a birth announcement....

time4tea · 06/07/2006 20:18

Arabica, re: your pedicure, don't do what I did, have a lovely pedicure with red nail varnish, then have to take the lot off, you need to have bare fingers and toes for cs (so they can monitor your oxygen levels in your blood, check the real colour of your nails)

I felt v frustrated bending over my enormous belly rubbing away at the rock hard professional nail-varnish at 11pm the night before my elective cs. dh said he couldn't get it off so had wandered off to bed

time4tea · 06/07/2006 20:23

Caitlinsmummy, I'm in a similar position, I had missed mc at 6/7 weeks which I found out about at the 12 week scan in April. amazingly I am pg again, and am due my 7 week scan next Tuesday. I'm very very nervous, of course.

there is a great thread which is just for ladies in our position, started by Wee willie winkie, who is a few weeks ahead of us, it is called "pregnant after missed mc - how do I cope with feelings of doom and gloom..." something like that. full of great advice. I read it a couple of times a day when I;m feeling anxious...

good luck tomorrow, let us know how it goes...

SnowBoo · 06/07/2006 20:50

Good luck for tomorrow Caitlinsmummy. Just try and stay positive and think good thoughts before you go to sleep. I had an early scan at 7weeks and there was a weeny heartbeat. Sending you all the luck in the world!

caitlinsmummy · 06/07/2006 21:25

Hey everyone, thanks so much for your kind words. Really hope there is a heartbeat. So scared.....I will let everyone no a.s.a.p. Nite nitexxxx
