please help someone. I am completely stuck. I do not have a list for you to choose from, but i do have these criteria:

name must not be too poncey (so not jeremy)
ideally should be easy to pronounce in spanish (so not george)
pref should have a story of some kind. for that reason dh likes names connected to "marsh" (eg carson or fenton - but not those)
name must not be thomas

I don't ask for much do I? the only idea I have so far is Kier, but that should praps be a middle name. dh has a slightly girly name and is loath to inflict that on our child (is kier girly?)

Never heard of Kier, but it does sound girly (if I'm pronouncing it right), I went to school with a girl named Kia (Kee-ya) so it does sound effeminate to me.

Greensleeves · 25/04/2006 15:20

Ciaran
Daniel
Kerry
Arran
Christy
Rhys

zippitippitoes · 25/04/2006 15:23

kier is a highly respectable name..people will think you are a staunch labour supporter!

SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2006 15:26

staunch old labour supporter woudn't be a million miles wide of the mark, hence the choice, zippi. but yes, you do pronounce it like kia.

kerry and christy - too girly! (I know an adult male kerry - he's forever moaning about it). I could live with daniel though. can you think of a story for it??

DD1 would have been Jarred and DD2 would have been Rueben

i also like Thomas, Lucas, Elijah,

hunkermunkfish · 25/04/2006 15:27

Ichabod.

Greensleeves · 25/04/2006 15:28

Kerry and Christy are both Irish BOYS' names. There are loads of famous male Kerrys and Christys - golfers, footballers, authors... (Christy Brown, who wrote My Left Foot?)

Oh, well.Grin

SoupDragon · 25/04/2006 15:28

I like Kier (Irish isn't it?) Was on my list of possibles if DD had been another boy. Not effeminate at all (unlike Kerry and Christy :o)

Greensleeves · 25/04/2006 15:28

Daniel - Daniel in the lion's den. Very well-known story. Grin

nailpolish · 25/04/2006 15:29

i went out with a Keir once (means dark-skinned, its Celtic)

he was very manly

Kerr is similar

or Kerry, i like Kerry

Kyle? Kian?

nailpolish · 25/04/2006 15:30

Cameron

Callum

David sounds gorgeous in spanish dialect

katzg · 25/04/2006 15:34

what about Xaiver (?sp)

SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2006 15:41

Kat - I considered xavier for ds, but my family couldn't pronounce it.

gs - I mean a "you're called x because ..." story. would I want to name someone after dan of the lions? (bearing in mind I am if anything anti-religious) if he's anything like ds he'd like it I spose.

OP posts:
SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2006 15:41

and ds's middle name is cameron (shoulda saved it!)

OP posts:
katzg · 25/04/2006 15:44

we were going to have a xaiver but DH and i couldn't agree he said pronounced it with a Z and i would have said an H so it was scrapped but i still love the name!

nailpolish · 25/04/2006 15:45

i love Madonnas sons name - Rocco

how cool is that!

SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2006 15:48

( you're right - Xavier/Javier is pronounced with a h sound in spanish. but also he's right - it's usually with a z in english!)

OP posts:
katzg · 25/04/2006 15:50

Z in french too i think

SenoraPostrophe · 25/04/2006 15:56

yes, probably. another reason I didn't choose it was because it's basque for "house owner". and that put me off for some reason.

Twinkie1 · 25/04/2006 15:59
