gem try not to stress about making a decision on how to feed Lo, honestly it will do you no good. My pfb couldn't bf he had no suck reflex, we battled and struggled alongside ff top up for 6mnths and it did me and him in. Pointless. With dd I made sure I had bottles and formular ready and went in with a what will be will be attitude and hadn't given it much more thought, but she latched perfectly instantly and ebf for a year.
This time ill do the same, have bottles and formular ready and wait and see, I don't make a decision until me and this little person meet and give it a go. That's just my way anyway x :)

So exciting to have a date wl my dd was born by elcs 2 days before her dd. I'm worried about what date they'll choose this time as its my 3rd, it could be at 38wks, not that I'd complain at shortening the wait at all!

Thinking of swansea hope alls well! X

DH has promised me a gingerbread latte at the starbucks in the hospital afterwards, so I'm looking forward to that. Smile

Helps to have something to look forward to to get through the more unpleasant bits. Grin

That's the best plan to have gem I never imagined bfing for a year but dd was so easy to feed we just did it, I can't imagine doing it so long with a more difficult baby so I have the bottle supplys in, no pressure then, we have enough to contend with when we have a newborn so long as they're fed something what does it matter what? :)

Aaahhhh swansea tomorrow!! Grin bet your excited, can't wait to hear all about him! Xx

Swansea I'm so excited for you!!

Gem, I'm glad you're feeling better, I'm finding my ligament pain comes and goes as well. I'm feeling really achy today, I wonder if it's because of being poked and prodded so much yesterday.

StateofConfusion · 25/10/2012 09:07

I always feel achy and a bit rough after scans mrs x

Hi gem, me too had awful experience with no1 all the docs and community were so adamant she had to be bf, she was crying every 20 mins and not gaining weight, eventually I decided to give her bottle and things were better straight away, she slept through by 5-6 weeks for 5 hours at a time and was much more content and she has never been overweight for her size, on the contrary. With my second when I was asked at the hospital how I would feed her, I said bottle very firmly, and I managed to bf and express for about 6-8 weeks but was also mixed feeding, I will do the same this time round probably express and mix feed, stick to what is most suitable for you and your baby. Also iron tablets need about 6 months to have a real effect on levels, so unless you are really low maybe try floridix ( I think that's it) instead, doesn't constipated as much as the tablets or do ferris gluconate instead of sulphate, which is the cheaper one they start you on with NHS.

I 've had lots of pain the last 2 days so am resting up as much as possible, think its ligament pain but also SPD starting to play up and it's still very early ......

shirley123 · 25/10/2012 09:38

Ps Swansea, good luck for tomorrow :)))))

Cadmum · 25/10/2012 10:20

Thinking of you Swansea. I am PETRIFIED of my c-section but it is not optional so I am very grateful to have you share your positive feelings and experiences.

backwardpossom · 25/10/2012 11:55

All the best tomorrow, swansea!

cadmum, I'll be having an ELCS too and I found reading some of the birth stories on here really helpful. I don't think the recovery from a CS can be any worse than the recovery I had from DS's birth!! [hgrin]

gemdrop84 · 25/10/2012 12:46

swansea I'm so happy for you although slightly [henvy] but our time will come! Is it January yet???? [hgrin] thanks state wise words, when I think about the bigger picture, it doesn't matter how he's fed so long as he is and thanks shirley your story sounds vry similar to mine. No pains today but I've been taking it very easy doing naff all although I do have someone's feet under my ribs, finding it a bit hard to catch my breath.

StateofConfusion · 25/10/2012 15:39

Oh and also gem my 5yo formular fed ds is just as healthy as my bf dd, and he's pretty clever too. I see no differences really now, and actually he's a better eater, she's fussy!

Also anyone who needs feeding kit, Boots half half price or a 3rd off on avent, nuby and tommee tippee bottle sets and sterilisers. I got 6 TT closer to nature bottles today for £11, reduced from £22.50. And they have buy one get one half price on baby toiletries :)

Thinking of u swansea

cadmum I had a hideous natural birth with dd1 and then elcs with dd2. Elcs was SO much better! Shorter recovery time, knowing what to expect, calm birth experience, chilled baby...all opposite to first time round! I will always be a bit sad that to didn't get my romantic version of births but the elcs was def the way to go, and actually all that counts is that you and baby make it through in the healthiest way possible.

StateofConfusion · 25/10/2012 18:10

cad my elcs was a lovely experience, so calm and serene, with dd I was up and walking about fine the next day, keep on top of taking painkillers and its honestly ok, dd was delivered at 12.30 friday, I was home by 10am sunday :)

To all the csection ladies I brought arnica tablets and took those, I've no idea if they helped but I did feel far better second time round when I took them :)

Cadmum · 26/10/2012 07:59

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

My four (and 3 of my late mmcs) were easy vaginal deliveries (One 'practice push'; one push for head; one for shoulders...) I had a c-section for a mmc/stillbirth at 21 weeks. The incision was vertical because I had placenta previa. As I sobbed my way through the recovery, I truly wondered how anyone could possibly cope with a newborn in that state. Not being able to drive in rural Switzerland for 6 weeks was torture as well.

SwanseaMum · 26/10/2012 08:28

Cad I don't like the catheter either and am dreading It!!
I really wanted a vbac this time because of my kids and the fact that they like to jump over my :)
I didn't have a choice this time cause of my heart but I am hoping that this will be calm. I had a hell of a natural birth with my first and this little one is laying back to back too so I can imagine I would have a hard time with this one too.
I found it hard to bf initially but when I got the feeling back it was a little easier:)
Will message u all later xxx

Cadmum · 26/10/2012 08:41

Oh Swansea... I really thought that you would miss my post.
When are you off to the hospital?

Sorry for bringing up things like catheters right before your section.

I don't actually MIND the catheter too much but they don't work for me and as my bladder fills I start to get antsy and have to convince someone to let me walk to the loo. I cannot release the muscles even with a catheter in.

I wish you a lovely peaceful delivery, a speedy recovery and a baby born knowing how to feed. (dd1 was a pro!!)

SwanseaMum · 26/10/2012 08:52

Cad hunny don't worry I am a big girl and am not as stressed as u would think I just wanna get it over and done with. :)
I know this is the safest way for me and the baby. I am not particularly looking forward to the horrible itchy feelig as the feeling returns to my legs lol
Xxx

backwardpossom · 26/10/2012 09:27

Looking forward to your announcement Swansea [hsmile]

WLmum · 26/10/2012 09:41

cad it sounds like you have every right be nervous about c section, sounds like you have really been through the ringer. Hopefully you will get a nice neat horizontal scar that will remind you of your precious babe in arms. The recovery with a new born would be totally different because of your emotional state - I cannot imagine how you even found the strength to breathe after your last one. Xx

Cadmum · 26/10/2012 09:42

Swansea: I will be thinking of you and looking forward to the announcement and a photo.
