Just had a sweep how should I be feeling?

Hi ladies had a sweep at 3.30 today, midwife said I'm very favourable 60 percent effaced and 3cm dilated but could stretch me to 5cm, I've had one of two period type aches since and ever so slight back pain but had no blood although still having a stringy mucus discharge. Don't know if I should be doing anything to help things get going or if the lack of discomfort means t didn't work any thoughts ladies

No advice but marking my place as having this on Mon. How many wks are you and did it hurt?

Hope I gets things moving :)

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 19:22

I'm 39 weeks today, no it didn't hurt at all was a little uncomfortable but not painful! I hope yours works for you, how far along are you? X

Keep active. Walk lots. It's happening. Slowly but you're on the way.

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 19:25

Thank you! My two sons are asleep so walking around the house it is!! Hubby is at work till 11pm! I'm sure I can find something to do although all this nesting has left me nothing to clean lol

Stringy mucus and pain sounds very positive. I felt kind of violated but then I don't like anyone touching me but dh. It also did nothing at all like that for me so good luck!! :)

noblegiraffe · 10/08/2012 19:40

I had a sweep and was only 1cm dilated and my waters broke 24 hours later. I didn't really feel any different after the sweep either. Your sweep sounds way more positive than mine so I'm sure it'll kick off soon!

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 19:43

Thank you! I guess I'm just being impatient I really don't want an induction!!

I had a sweep and started having period like pains, 12 hours later dd was here

Fingers crosses for you Grin

MrGeresHamster · 10/08/2012 19:48

I had a sweep this afternoon too (40+3), yours sounds more positive than mine... Cervix high and closed. Went for a walk afterwards, have had some bleeding and period type pains. Midwife didn't think it would work. Sad

You need to be active, so on your feet and walking around. Midwife also suggested an early night Wink

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 19:50

My midwife suggested an early night to but it's so god damn painful when we try that it is off the cards!!

I hope yours works for you hub! Positive labor vibes lol

Oh god I was thinking 'yes, an early night, you want as much sleep as possible before the baby gets here'

MrGeresHamster · 10/08/2012 20:16

Early night is on the cards here... couldn't face anymore curry!

Grin

Good luck OP, sending lots of labour vibes your way.

seabuckthorn · 10/08/2012 20:31

Lots of labour vibes for you!
How about a birthing ball? That got my contractions going.

Loislane78 · 10/08/2012 20:43

So sounds like a bit of light shopping prob not on the cards after a sweep....

Being induced at 39 wks due to other issues so not expecting it to work on Mon (at 38 wks) but hopefully might make the induction a bit quicker (fingers crossed) and MW can tell me if my bits are looking favorable :)

Hope mine goes like urs OP :)

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 21:07

On the birthing ball I go...

We walked several miles into town after my first one, wandered round the shops and then went out for dinner. I felt fine.

After the second one, there was a bit of mucus but not a huge amount. We went out to friends for dinner. I woke up with contractions 2 hours after getting to bed.

McBaby · 10/08/2012 22:47

Have been having contractions since two minues after they did the sweep at 10am this morning. Painful and five mins apart ..... Hopefully will get a bit closer and bsby arrives later tonight 40+3 and fed up!

MikeLitorisRings · 10/08/2012 22:52

I was exactly the same as you when I had dd2.

Sweep at 3.30pm, 3cm dilated. Intermittent pains afterwards which started to get more regular about 19.30pm.

Dd2 was born at 3.39pm

Good luck and hopefully the baby will be with you very soon.

Claire1209 · 10/08/2012 22:55

No pain, nothing!! :( just a very active baby and a very fed up mummy

MrGeresHamster · 10/08/2012 22:59

Same here... Sad

Flisspaps · 10/08/2012 23:19

I'd just go to bed and get some sleep.

If it's going to work then it'll do so regardless of what you do now. Sex, curry, pineapples and long walks are not ways to get labour going - if they worked then no-one would ever accept medical induction.

If this is the start of things you'll need all the rest you can get - and if it's not the start of things then it's pointless wasting your energies on nothing.

Badgerina · 11/08/2012 00:10

I agree. Get some sleep. I had a sweep with DS1 at 41 weeks, everything was favourable, but nothing happened until
41+4.

The sweep itself can cause pain and mucous loss. Labour could still be a while off. Fingers crossed though!!!

Claire1209 · 11/08/2012 01:00

Lots of period type pains but not always accompanied by tightenings so I'm not sure only started about half hour ago but doesn't seem to be coming and going like contractions just feels constant :/

I had a sweep at 40+2, did bugger all, ended up being induced at 41+4. My beautiful boy was worth the wait though Grin All the best!
