Just had a sweep how should I be feeling?

Hi ladies had a sweep at 3.30 today, midwife said I'm very favourable 60 percent effaced and 3cm dilated but could stretch me to 5cm, I've had one of two period type aches since and ever so slight back pain but had no blood although still having a stringy mucus discharge. Don't know if I should be doing anything to help things get going or if the lack of discomfort means t didn't work any thoughts ladies

Heymammy thanks for your input but do you think we've got to this stage without trying virtually everything?

The next person who suggests curry, pineapple, sex or anything else will be ripped to shreds very unceremoniously.

I have made myself exhausted and my feet blistered from walking miles. I have had enough curry and spicy foods that even the piles are retreating. Poor DH has been shagged to kingdom come by a hormonal huge pregnant lady who can't stop crying.

Anyone else fancy being 'helpful'?

I'm sorry but that made me chuckle! The things we do! I had some woman telling me to give myself a sweep the other day, I can't see it let alone sweep it!!!!

Half 8 in the morning! I'm hoping it's over and done with this time tomorrow! Yeah I couldn't believe it, I mentioned how the midwife had said my waters could be easily broken and how I was very favourable and she said " ooo I would sweep myself maybe the waters would break, you should try it" I just nodded in astonishment at the suggestion

Good luck Claire Hope it all goes well (sweeping yourself is not that weird a suggestion - some women also do their own VEs to check dilation )

I had 5 (YES, FIVE) sweeps with dc3. Ended up being induced at 40+16.

I sweep worked however for dc1 (40 weeks) and dc2 (42 weeks).

She's here!! 7lb13oz born at 6.35pm after induction at 11.35 stuck at 3 CMs for ages contractions stopped at about 4, waters broke at half five, nothing happened at all until 6pm then things became really intense was pushing by 6.20pm! And she's perfect!

Well LO arrived without the induction appointment however it took nearly two days so there was medical encouragement and a hell of a lot of drugs!

He weighs 7lb and 3oz so obviously needed the extra cooking!

I am besotted and currently enjoying breastfeeding Mumsnetting!
