Just had a sweep how should I be feeling?

Hi ladies had a sweep at 3.30 today, midwife said I'm very favourable 60 percent effaced and 3cm dilated but could stretch me to 5cm, I've had one of two period type aches since and ever so slight back pain but had no blood although still having a stringy mucus discharge. Don't know if I should be doing anything to help things get going or if the lack of discomfort means t didn't work any thoughts ladies

noblegiraffe I thought the same and was wondering why it would be painful Blush

My cervix was described as favourable when I had a sweep with DD1. Had the sweep about 2pmish on a Thursday, had fairly constant achey period type pain. Then woke next morning with stronger pains - these turned into contractions, and by 1.14am on the Saturday morning, DD was born.

I think it sounds very promising for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed that things get moving this weekend.

Claire I had a show last night! Nothing else though and baby still seems happy to stay put. Hope things are moving along nicely for you!

Claire1209 · 11/08/2012 11:32

Ah no! Plan of attack today is fish and chips (for grease) and another long walk!

Happy baby evicting!

Claire1209 · 11/08/2012 12:20

Grease?

I've been told that greasy food (fish and chips) can have a good effect.

At the moment I am happy to try anything more or less, but more so if they are tasty!

All stopped here as well v tired and frustrated!

Claire1209 · 11/08/2012 17:51

None of us are having much luck then!! I'm so annoyed!! Lol especially as the midwife said " oh it would be so easy to just break your waters now " I thought well bloody go on then!!

Nothing here either... Sad

sarahmia · 12/08/2012 19:35

With dd1 I had a sweep and the mw said I was 1cm dilated and it prob wouldn't do anything, I went into labour the next night. With dd2 I had a sweep And mw said I was 3cm dialated and could easily break my waters. Didn't give birth for another week.

Claire1209 · 14/08/2012 10:18

Had my second sweep today, a lot more positive. 2cms dilated and soft, she could feel baby's head so hopefully this one will work.

Otherwise induction is booked for Sunday... We'll both be on the other side soon.

Claire1209 · 15/08/2012 18:21

Nothing here Sad

Induction on Sunday looking more and more likely.

Yours is tomorrow isn't it?

Claire1209 · 16/08/2012 12:14

Yeah tomorrow for me, I thought I'd hit the jackpot last night! Getting frequent pains all evening and into the early hours, got on my birthing ball to try get things going but then as per usual it all stopped, had one or two twinges this morning but nothing and now I have absolutely no energy due to being up all last night so dont even have it in me to go for a walk or get on the ball to try and tempt things along again! You had no twinges or anything?

MrGeresHamster · 16/08/2012 12:19

Twinges... but I've been having this for weeks now.

What you need to do is take your mind off things today. Go out and get some crappy magazines, snacks and bits and pieces to keep yourself amused in hospital as even if you go earlier you'll still use them.

Treat yourself to something nice...

Claire1209 · 16/08/2012 12:54

I don't have the energy to leave the sofa!! It's taking everything I have to keep my boys entertained! Lol very much feeling sorry for myself today

OP posts:
MrGeresHamster · 16/08/2012 14:00

Oh no. Please don't let that make you feel down... It's horrible isn't it being so overdue. Feeling huge and unwieldily and desperately trying not to give in to the feeling of failure and that you'll be pregnant forever. One more day and you'll be on your way to meeting your little one.

I haven't left the house yet either. I live in a busy area and it makes me feel really vulnerable to walk around, when DH comes home he'll come out for a walk with me. But for the moment I'm bouncing on my birthing ball and trying not to focus on every niggle that may but really isn't a sign.
