I will be pregnant forever

I am now 40+2, and nothing.
I had a mega hot curry, I could barely eat (certainly did not enjoy it!), nothing. I eat shed loads of pineapple, nothing.
I have the odd twinge occasionally but otherwise no sign of any labour coming soon. I am just a big lump waiting for something to happen; in fact, I am starting to doubt that anything will ever happen. I might just be some freak who will be pregnant forever.
I sort of know that 2 days overdue is not that much but still it feels like forever.
Anybody want to play the waiting game with me?

Hi I know what you mean. I am 40+1 which I know is only 1 day over and I didn't expect to be on time but I haven't had any signs at all. I haven't had a show, only a little cramp once or twice a day and the baby isn't engaged. I am booked for induction on Wednesday when I will be 40+6 and going for monitoring this afternoon, but I wouldn't mind going on my own before then but I don't see that happening. I hope you have more luck than me..I am happy to wait with you. :)

PickledHegg · 04/05/2012 11:46

Hi Ladies,

My midwife advised me to try Schwepps Diet Tonic Water to bring on labour, I went straight from the appointment to the supermarket to purchase 2 bottles, drank the lot that evening and went into labour the next day :)

It has to be the Diet version though and Schwepps brand, as it has something in particular in it (not sure what exactly). Personally I hated the taste so I added some orange squash.

All the best to you both and hope you get to meet LO's soon x

Murtette · 04/05/2012 12:47

I know what you mean! I am only 39 weeks but DD wasn't born until 40+15 as, whilst the hospital policy was to induce at 40+10, they didn't have space for me until 40+12 and then it took three days. I had three S&S last time with the first at 39+5.

This time the MW has said that policy has changed so they don't do S&S until 41 weeks & induce at 40+12 so, again, I may end up going to 40+15. Aaaaaaaaaaaaggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! I can't bear another 3 weeks of this!

lalabaloo · 04/05/2012 12:57

I am 40 weeks tomorrow and just waiting now, would really like baby to arrive. I don't feel like I'm about to go into labour anytime soon though, I just seem to have almost constant Braxton hicks and nothing else

duvetfan · 04/05/2012 12:59

Thank you PickledHegg I am passing a supermarket on the way back from the hospital. I will pop in today, pity I can't add a measure of gin to help it go down! Wink
I will try anything to avoid induction as my consultant has advised us that it could take a very long time....

I will let you know how it goes...

Thanks again,
Thanks

shouldIbecrossaboutthis · 04/05/2012 13:01

go for a really big walk, if you can! Has worked every time (5) for my always overdue cousin. Good Luck Grin

MrsHoarder · 04/05/2012 13:25

40+4 today. I can't go for a big walk, my hips will give in completely!

Are you sure it has to be diet tonic water? I have a full box of cans of normal Schwepps tonic water (bought the day before BFP Grin) but can't get to the shop to buy diet stuff.

DialMforMummy · 04/05/2012 13:53

What count as a long walk? Went to McD's for lunch and then a little stroll in town. I will hit the tonic this evening.
I am lined up for S&S in Monday and consultant on Tuesday. I am not sure induction is an option so if things don't move forward, I am headed for a section. Had a emcs, it went really well. But VBAC or CS, I am crapping myself either way!

Ooooh, I feel sooo sorry for you:( I am 37 + 2, and being induced next week for possible medical probs with baby - my head says "If only I could go full term and be overdue like I was with my first", my heart says "COME ON........Get out" - even though I am not as far as you. I feel bad enough now, and can vaguley remember feeling like hell on earth. Surely they won't let you go much further, and if they won't, your body won't. I tried EVERTHING in my 1st overdue P. I had hot curry, bloody pineapple, raspberry leaf tea, hard fast walking, bouncing ball and even sex (oh, that was a treat). My midwife has since told me that semen works best if swallowed - yeah right!!!!

I am having reflexology to get the old uterus contracting and it has worked straight away for me, apparently it works best for full term mums - if you have time to arrange that might help, or look up the pressure points and get someone to do that.

I'm off to buy Shwepps diet tonic water now - I'd rather go au naturel than induced. Good luck with yours and try not to be too scared:) what will be will be and it WILL be out soon:)

FreshwaterPlimpies · 05/05/2012 10:28

40+4 here and not much happening:(
Does anyone else have a strong feeling that they'll be massively overdue?
Think I may actually try a long walk later, followed by the tonic water!
Good luck everyone, hope we're not waiting too long.

confuzed90 · 05/05/2012 11:11

I tried all sorts.. I exhausted myself from long walks and stairs. Sex, which I really didn't want. Nothing worked.
I then went into slow early labour, lasted 5 days of constant contractions/BH every 10 minutes. Then last week friday I didn't want the baby to arrive as had plans and my sister had gone into labour,so I gave up, was 40+3, I accepted induction was going to happen like it did with DS1, and voila friday afternoon I went into labour and he was born at 40+3. So I say giving up trying works best! Although the day I went into labour I was sat in a car driving around(brought a new car that day)

Good luck and give up...relax and SLEEP!!
Xx

CommanderShepard · 05/05/2012 12:39

I've concluded I'm giving birth to an elephant and I'll still be pregnant this time next year.

Not that it kickstarted anything, but I went swimming yesterday and it was GLORIOUS. I could have spent hours in there floating about although I think the lifeguards would've had kittens (I wasn't wearing my specs but even I could see the worried looks at my rather hefty and visibly wriggly bump)

MeconiumHappens · 05/05/2012 17:42

Snap! 40+3 and frankly a bit bored now. COME OUT BABY. have tried curry and pineapple despite knowing its a load of balls. But am intrigued about the tonic water! Maybe i will add that to the shopping list, worth a go i suppose!
Lots of braxton hicks today but i keep reading into things and every morning wake up pregnant still.
A weekend baby would be brill. COME OUT BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MeconiumHappens · 05/05/2012 17:47

I keep thinking maybe i should go for a long walk but my everything is aching like crazy, baby is really low, midwife can only feel a teeny bit of his head now, and so it feels like he's wedged between my bum bones. Unfortunately he's been that way for two weeks now!

tara0202 · 05/05/2012 17:50

Can I join? 40 weeks tomorrow but am the size of 2 houses. Went 8 days over with my first but this one feels much bigger and I am much more uncomfortable!

I detest tonic water but I suppose I am going to have to go and buy some. Yuk.

I have a sweep tomorrow morning. My friend who is a midwife said to go home after that and have a bath with 4 drops of lavender oil. Hope it does something!

Good luck to everyone else with the evictions.

tara0202 · 05/05/2012 17:51

Oh and I am not even a bit engaged and have had no show, no signs, nothing! Boo!

MeconiumHappens · 05/05/2012 17:57

but 2nd babies often dont engage until labour, it wont stop things from happening!
have just phoned dh and told him he needs to go buy tonic water. He thinks im nuts Grin i agree!

DialMforMummy · 05/05/2012 19:49

I am having quite a few BH but like Meconiumhappens I am still pregnant every morning.
Also in the last few days, I have been gorging in junk food (mainly sweets) and everyday I am like "oh well, I can jolly well have 2 desserts, it could be my last pregnancy day after all....' I am going to be sorry when time to lose the baby fat comes, if it ever does.
Stretch and sweep sounds so grim. Why don't they call it "Fun and Frolic" or "Cervix spectacular" or anything that makes it sound more exciting?

lalabaloo · 05/05/2012 20:41

Due date today, still pregnant and I've had millions of texts and messages asking if baby is here, if I ignore them then people assume I'm in labour! I do feel like I'm going to be very overdue, but as it is my first I don't know what to expect or if I am experiencing any "signs". It feels strange now that I've reached my due date though, any time after tomorrow I will be "late" and that seems scary, like labour is imminent! (Probably because it could be!)

FreshwaterPlimpies · 06/05/2012 10:47

DialM I agree that 'Stretch and Sweep' sounds like a particularly punishing gym class.. they need to work on their advertising.
Nothing really happening here either.. a few twinges when out shopping and lots of BH in the evening.
Was wondering last night if the supermoon would have any effect on us?:o
Had a quick look at the tonic water thing and apparently the quinine in it has mild oxytocic properties, which might be why it was mentioned.
Does anyone know why lavender oil is recommended, aside from being relaxing? My mw has mentioned it too.

MeconiumHappens · 06/05/2012 14:41

haha @ cervix spectacular!!!!
Have quaffed quite a lot of tonic water. Am still pregnant.
Lavender has uterine contracting qualities, but if its decent aromatherapy oil you need to be careful with it. For example i wouldnt be using it if id had a previous CS. Same with raspberry leaf.

Still pregnant over here btw, 40+4.
COME OUT.
Am going to go do some expressing and see if that helps. Have been doing it everyday since 36 weeks, no baby but lots of little syringes full of colostrum in th freezer- im sure will be handy at some point!

SpagboLagain · 06/05/2012 14:46

A sweep followed by a large portion of fish and chips sent me into labour with both of mine. Have gravy and mushy peas with it to be on the safe side.

BeattieBow · 06/05/2012 14:50

oh poor you. I'm only 39+1 so a few days to go. but I went overdue with my other children. I'm in a new hospital this time and they don't induce until 41+6!

I'm going to order some Schweppes diet tonic water with my Sainsbury's shop this evening I think.

tara0202 · 06/05/2012 15:20

Well, I had stretch and sweep this morning and the midwife said I am 2cm dilated and she could feel his head. I then went for a walk and have had a lavender bath. Nothing! Midwife said if sweep is going to do anything it will happen within 48 hours. We shall see :-)
