Angelico - so glad everything was ok. Saw your post earlier on my phone but didn't have time to post then. Nice you got to see your little kicker! :)

Dame - thanks for the tip. I defo need something. I'm already at the stage of rolling off sofas and if I stand up quickly, feeling like it's 'falling off' :-. Sadly having such an epic bump gets me nowhere in Norway. Was in the traffic office and customs offices today and despite my bloody bump entering rooms before me, none of the men (they all were in there) with chairs gave them up. Norwegian men have lots of plus points (they do lots of housework & childcare) but they don't give up seats & leave doors to swing in your face. Can't have it all eh? It's a country full of equality and there's no place for 'chivalry' when we're all equal.

Hope you're all good. I'm having financial panic today and looking for somewhere to borrow some more money from (has to be a relative/friend as I'm unemployed). Wish i qualified for fruit/veg coupons! I don't even 'exist' here and have sacrificed my existence in UK. Best I can hope for is a rebate of my council tax for the last year or whatever that I've been unemployed but not signing on. . Ignore me all, I'm moaning again. Hope you've all had better days :).

Hooray angelico! that's great news. Take it easy and remember all is well

ladytiredwinterbottom · 23/04/2012 19:40

Hi all :) lm due Oct 24th, am 13+5.

HaggisNeepsTatties · 23/04/2012 20:59

So glad to hear everything s ok Angelico

Angelico · 23/04/2012 21:40

Hey peeps back and catching up! Slightly more chilled until the next bloody event...

Mickey your mum will understand, think it's the hormones make us occasionally psycho. Also agree with the Matalan thing - got some great stuff from there including super comfy yoga pants. So far best bets have been Matalan and H&M, New Look stuff is nice but their trousers are really bizarre.

Bella it's always good reading really honest stuff about BFing. When time comes I'd really like to do it but determined not to beat myself up if it doesn't work out.

Orange you have a lovely bump! :o

Livvy I'm sure your mum will come round and will want to do the 'girl talk' thing - or at least give totally unsolicited advice a la mums everywhere :)

Zoe if you think peeps are sun deprived in SE England try living up here - underbelly of fish comparison very apt for most people in NI too :o And the booze thing is interesting. I don't drink much anyway, mainly because DH doesn't drink and I hate throwing away half a bottle of wine. Last few weeks I've been having roughly a (generous) glass of wine a week because of being at dinners etc. Half superstitious writing that after events this morning but they will be entirely unrelated.

London jealous you got freebie vits - I did ask if we got them at first antenatal appt but alas no. I've managed to get them when they're on offer mostly :)

October thanks for reassurance this morning, glad your bleeding resolved. It really is common isn't it?! One of our lovely office ladies was all worried this morning when I phoned in and said she had bleeding throughout with one of hers, never got to bottom of it etc.

Dame hope your MW appt went well, sympathy on the aches and pains too. I've had lots of 'pressure' feelings although ironically they have eased off, maybe things are lifting up a bit? Will def look at your link!

Haggis was just looking at those doppler things yesterday as they sound cool! And Haggis, London, Confusion - got my MW appt on Thurs so no help to you all but hopefully you will tell me what to expect before then :o

Fjord sending sympathy on the money front. Maybe you could write a book or some articles about being a 'furriner' in Norway?! You're really brave moving there, hope DP is supporting you. It's a big step - a good friend moved (just from England to Dublin!) when she got married and she found it hard because of leaving a good job and basically struggling to get any work for a while. She settled eventually though :)

Thank you all again for your kindness earlier - it really meant a lot. I have decided this bean is just going to have to behave itself and stop giving me bizarre symptoms. And also agree London that 'Dr' Google is sometimes not a friend in these situations!

Night night peeps x

HaggisNeepsTatties · 24/04/2012 00:07

Argh! Been trying to sleep for the last two hours but can't because this itching is driving me insane!
Seriously can not cope with this for another 5 months!!!

Is anyone else suffering? I think it's worse because I always get itchy this time of year from hayfever. Normally I just take an antihistamine and that sorts it out but obviously can't at the moment. Think I will ask midwife on Wednesday if there's anything I can take.

Hope everyone else is sound asleep!

Angelico · 24/04/2012 07:48

Morning Haggis - sympathies! Where are you itching? My shins get itchy on and off at the minute and I find that Aveeno cream is really good - someone mentioned it on the first thread. They do a bath oil too which I bought but haven't used. Don't know if there is hayfever med you can take when pregnant - mine hasn't kicked in this year yet, partly because I'm sticking to my specs rather than my contact lenses.

Also, if you're itching all over I think it can mean something to do with your liver? Friend in work had it for months when she was pregnant. Hope you got some sleep eventually :) x

OP posts:
LondonMrsS · 24/04/2012 08:26

I just started itching yesterday! Mainly on my arms and hands, but not unbearable. It could be a liver thing if very severe (although that's only really likely in the last trimester according to Baby Centre).
Hello and welcome ladytiredwinterbottom! How's things? I'm due Oct 26th, so we're pretty similar. Is it your first?

CWest30 · 24/04/2012 09:23

Morning ladies.....well its so close now, scan on monday morning eek!

Am posting today as I've got some weird cramping/tightening thing going on, and Im just a bit worried.....its on the right hand side of my abdomen, and I've had it for the last half hr. I'm 11+5, any ideas what this could be? No bleeding thank god, just this annoying pain. I'm so close to the "safe" zone now, I just hope everything is ok. I'm sure it is, still suffering with MS, and I'm being a TOTAL b*h to everyone around me. Roll on 2nd trimester I, (and Im sure they) think! x

MickeyTheShortOne · 24/04/2012 09:38

Morning everyone, glad everything is OK angelico.
Cwest30 I've had all sorts of pains and cramps, no blood though so I've assumed that everything is alright. My cousin had period pains, tummy pains, the lot all throughout her pregnancy and she's got a beautiful little girl (now walking, its so wierd watching this little tot that was laying on the floor 5 months ago!!) now.
Hope that reassures you a bit!
I think I might look in to buying a doppler... hearing the heartbeat myself sounds like fun :)
Hope you all have a lovely day ladies!

MickeyTheShortOne · 24/04/2012 09:39

oh and, 21, 11+5, #1.

CWest30 · 24/04/2012 10:07

MickeyTheShortOne or anyone else thinking of buying a Doppler, might be an idea to give this a read first.......

DameFlatYouLent · 24/04/2012 10:27

Morning! CWest I've had lots of pains and periody feelings on & off. Some due to stretching ligaments, some probably due to constipation Blush Damn bowels. I have the bowel issues of an 85 yr old.

My MW appt was fine yesterday, all is good. It took her ages to find the heartbeat, and it's because my uterus is nowhere near where it should be - I have a bucket of a pelvis, and the heartbeat was just above my pubic bone. The midwife was quite surprised, but I remember this from last time. I have a round belly atm but I think it's bloating/weight gain - I think I didn't show last time until I was well into 20w+. I suppose it's a bit of a bonus when it comes to shrinkage post-pg, but my round belly is a bit embarrassing because it looks all wrong. Can't have it all, eh.

Welcome ladytired!

Haggis, hope the itching lets up. I'm another fan of Aveeno, it's good stuff. You could always give it a go...if it doesn't ease the itching, it's still a great moisturiser....!

Right, DS is asleep so I'm going to do the same.

MrsConfusion · 24/04/2012 10:48

Just back from MW appt, all fine with bloods etc which is good (I'm not very good at trusting that no news is good news...). She's not the most enthusiastic of ladies which is a shame, but even she cracked a smile when she found the heartbeat instantly - not even sure the doppler thingy was fully on my tummy! Could also hear other noises which apparently are the baby wriggling, clearly this one is training to be a wrestler. Smile

DH was really happy which was lovely, and I'm trying not to grin too much in the office. Grin Really can't keep my brain on work at the moment...

Quad blood test results should take about a week apparently (couldn't get nuchal measurement at scan due to aforementioned wriggling), then nothing to do but look after ourselves until 20 week scan. Feels like a long gap but it'll be mega-busy at work so probably won't have time to think too much.

Haggis I've had really dry skin for a few weeks, and was worried about hayfever too so asked the midwife. She recommended phoning the doctor to ask what to take - she says there aren't any formal studies but some meds do get recommended as they have been used for years without issues, so fingers crossed I will still be able to breathe this summer...

Hope all have good days today, and good luck to those having appointments.

Velo · 24/04/2012 12:13

LondonMrsS just had a 16-weekish check-up and got the blood results back from the 12-week appointment (everything is fine); ultra sound for a wee check of the little one (springing away) and a weight check. The only bit of info worth passing on is that the doctor said to stay manage eating/too much weight gain by reducing fast burning carbs like potatoes and pasta (and def. no sweets or sweet stuff). Not because these are necessarily bad in themselves, but because you'll get hungry faster (and therefore need to eat more). I'm not in the UK so not sure how the procedure works there.

On the bump front - I just look rounder and rounder, jelly belly and starting to struggle in my clothes. This weekend could be the maternity shop (or watching United play City on the tv!).

Vitamin D - I'm on the Sanatogen 'mother to be' taking them everyday and they include the Vit D. I've also promised my mother to drink a cup of moringa everyday (green leafy plant thing which has loads of goodness in it).

Angelico sorry that you had a bit of a scare but glad that it all worked out. 6 more days until we're all past the 12-week scan phase.

Oh, forgot to mention hormonal meltdown on Saturday (seems to have been a bit of a trend). Miserable, weepy, fed-up and unable to function for most of the day. Poor DH - all this and the approach of 'Fatherdoom' to contend with!

Hang in there ladies, hopefully warmer weather and the joys of spring will be coming to us soon.

xx

39, 17 weeks today! #1

Angelico · 24/04/2012 19:13

Hey peeps, hope you're having a good day. Bizarre symptom of the day: itchy nipples! Especially the right one but now spreading to left. Why?!?!

London I read that too about the liver thingy but girl in work got it really early on and MW etc kept dismissing it because 'it was too early', she was nearly demented by the time they finally said, "Oh shit yeah!" :o

CWest I am the last person in the world who should get to say this but try not to worry. All these things going on seem so inexplicable and scary but perfectly normal too. E.g. yesterday at hospital ultrasound lady didn't really confirm how common it is to have wee bit of bleeding at 16 weeks, today in work no less than 6 - I kid you not - women there said they had bleeding between weeks 15 and 17. One said she was told at the time something was moving (placenta starting to creep up maybe?) but she couldn't remember the details.

Mickey the doppler thing sounds cool - BUT I am a bit worried that we won't be able to find heartbeat because of belly blubber which will tip me into meltdown :o

Dame sympathy on bowel stuff! I am finding the constipation etc is completely unaffected by my diet - comes and goes seemingly randomly, no matter how much fruit, veg, juice, water etc I have. Doc gave me lactulose the other week and said it's better taking that than being constipated. I find if I take a spoonful every other day / every third day it seems to stop things getting critical...! :o

MrsConfusion and Velo glad your appts went well :) That Moringa tea stuff sounds groovy too - what is it?

Ooooh - dinner's ready! Dauphinoise potatoes tonight so clearly I am bang on target with that doc's healthy eating advice Velo :o (Am now craving a Coke with ice too! Confused ) x

Evening all,

Cwest hope your pain has passed. Sounds nothing to worry about, unaless pain is constant or with bleeding. Hard I know, but try to relax. If pain is constant though, ring your midwife. I've had all sorts of cramps and two gs and all been innocent - just worrying x

on the Doppler front, I've had one a couple of weeks. Find it really reassuring and it was mega cheap off eBay. Probably should have got a better one but so far I have found it reassuring in view of my dodgy history. Once I can feel regular movements I will put it away but for now it serves it's purpose.

hope the nips aren't too itchy angelico it's probably growing and stretching.... But I am sure it is getting on your tits. That was so bad, I apologise for myself

God I'm knackered. X

18 weeks today
Hospital hauled me off the ward today to basically bollock me for going to occupational health, said the risk assessment wasn't valid, so am back on the full on-call 80 hr weeks, nights, etc, they threatened to cut my pay they threatened to not sign me off so I couldn't progress next year
One woman said "most doctors work until they are a lot... bigger than you"
So I am ashamed to say they made me cry, then I went back to ward to try and sort out my patients
I feel sick and awful and like I'm hurting my baby
These are all admin people, all the doctors I've spoken to said working our hours pregnant is crazy and harmful. but my GP was totally unsympathetic (sitting down, from her job with no on-calls) so I have to see another one, and I have no self-confidence left and my work is really suffering now and I am scared of what another GP might say cause my self-esteem is rock bottom
Boyfriend wants to call me off sick until they stop doing this and someone takes responsibility for me, I feel like that will just confirm everything they evidently think about me
I'm sorry, what a pathetic whine. I am just so tired. Not making any sense.

Angelico · 24/04/2012 20:18

Squid! That is just Shock How the hell can they just dismiss the risk assessment?! I know med training is pretty hardcore and lots to learn but you're pregnant fgs! Can you take the paycut and still progress? Or... is it worth retaking the year next year? You just can't be left feeling like this - it's bad for you and squideen :( Do they have the right to just overrule the risk assessment? What do BMA say?

This is one of those times when the threat of bad press might work...? "Trainee doctor shafted by hospital" etc. Is the pressure coming from hospital or from uni?

I'm so sorry Squid just rambling on the page here. Def seek advice from your union - might be worth posting in legal on here too and see if anyone has any advice. For tonight - pour a glass of wine and have a bath. And a big hug :( xo

HaggisNeepsTatties · 24/04/2012 20:20

Evening all!
Thanks for all the itching tips - I think I might have to give Aveeno a try.
Angelico It's not too bad on my legs (though was early on) but now mainly belly, boobs (and nipples), back, and (sorry TMI!) between my buttocks. It tends to be in the evening or at night - after I posted on here last night I went and had a shower and then slathered on the moisturiser and eventually managed to get to sleep.

Will check with midwife tomorrow in case it might be something more serious than stretching skin and hayfever...I've read there's something when your liver isn't functioning properly, but seems to normally start later in pregnancy.

I'm really worried about my best friend. I mentioned her last week, but she's 10 weeks pregnant. Was bleeding last week and went for a scan. Baby was there with heart beating and all the right size, but she had placental bleeding into the amniotic sac. She had to go back this morning for a scan and I've not been able to get in contact since. I'm really worried about her, but don't want to hound her in case it was bad news this morning, in which case I imagine it would be quite difficult for her to see me and my ever expanding belly. Any ideas as to what I should do? I've left her a voicemail and sent a text checking she's ok and saying to call me if she needs me (she's by herself as boyf is abroad) but should I just leave it at that and let her get in touch when she's ready to?

Hope everyone's ok today. 16 weeks today and midwife appointment tomorrow!

Midgetm · 24/04/2012 20:20

Oh squid. The bastards. Go straight to your union. Sending you a big virtual hug. You are not being work shy, you have every right to put you and your bean first and your GP is a witch x

Angelico · 24/04/2012 20:29

Haggis - that liver thing - I mentioned it above as girl in work got it early on. Think one of symptoms might be itching palms and soles of feet if I remember as well as all over itching. Def mention to MW - hope it goes well tomorrow. Also really awkward about your friend - hope she's okay. I would probably risk sending one more text, then leave it in case she is licking her wounds over something :( Hope she's okay x
