Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

Hi all

Midget sounds like you had a good appointment with specialist. Can you have something like Lucozade to build you up until you can eat again? How about a banana? No wonder you're tired and hungry. Yes, you're banned from going to the cup final. Flog the ticket and use the money to spoil yourself with and rest as much as possible. Hope you've had a nice nap this avo.

My scan was a bit weird. No one I see really understands why I've had the extra scans!! I asked MW last week and she said it was because of my age. Today MW wasn't sure... I think it may be because I said movement from LO limited. No idea why they can't put that in notes though. Still, scan showed amniotic fluid low. Baby looks ok. Have to go back on Tuesday to see consultant. So, going to take it easy this weekend, keep an eye on movements and make sure I'm drinking lots.

Seaside glad to hear I'm not the only one sleeping for England.

Oh my, my bed is calling me!! Have a nice evening everyone.

FF
xx

littleredmonkey · 04/05/2012 19:46

Hey Midget - so glad everything is ok. You are under orders for weekend of rest and spoiling yourself. You have had quite a stressful week honey. Do what 1oooo ff said flog the ticket use the cash for treats. Lucozade is the necter of the gods. It is the best drink ever and I would have it every day if I could. It brings back memories of my childhood in Hong Kong when I was poorly. Lots of ice and a nice glass of the orange goo.

10000FF - Make sure you get plently of rest as well. The extra scans are probably due to age I had to have one as an old bird and had to see a consultant the other week. I think they add in extra becasue of our ages and NHS do have some staff who are extra careful and what to give us the best care even thou we shit our pants when they do something no one else has had. Please take it easy and relax over the weekend

Bythesea - I thought 2nd tri I would be full of beans and I am at work but by the end of the day I am one knackered monkey. I am sooooooo excited about the next three days off work for a lay in it sad. No alarm clock blaring out will be bliss. Trips to the loo are less on average 1 or 2 not the monster 3 to 5 a night. Tried sipping tiny amounts of water but some nights so thirsty I need lots to drink.

Bump getting so big now I need a pillow on my side to place bump on. Got ordered one of those fancy snake like pillows. Getting it Saturday from Argos. I find sleeping on my left not great and right better cant sleep on my back anymore and snoring for England when I do

Great news Midget have a good restful weekend.
You too 1000FF. Good that baby seems fine.

I am bursting out of my clothes now. I will have to buy maternity clothes now. My belly is getting big!

Bananna1 · 05/05/2012 16:14

hi everyone, thank you so much for all your positive thoughts and congratulations. He is wonderful and I an totally in love with him.

Names are causing us a bit of a headache tho as we just can,t agree on anything!
Even tho this was my fourth labour I was still really scared, especially as I have felt so old and tired this pregnancy, but once it starts, the fear goes and your body and natural instincts take over. Just don't panic, and breathe deeply on the gas and air!
Pleased to hear all well midget, and all have a relaxing bank holiday x x

ValiumQueen · 05/05/2012 21:10

Fjord I have a bone to pick with you! I need a double, but am obsessed with Stokke Xplory! Grr!

Please tell me all about yours - I need details Have you played much with it yet?

10000fireflies · 06/05/2012 10:52

Bananna good to hear you're having such a lovely time with your little boy. I'm sure you'll come up with a name before toooo long!! I feel reassured that you felt old and tired during pregnancy. Is exactly how I feel!!Grin Grin They laughed at me at NHS class when I introduced myself and said I was knackered - MW was a bit derogatory. Most ladies there said they were excited.

LRM I have taken your advice and did almost bugger all yesterday. Even managed to get DH to do some hoovering without too much hassle. Working on getting him to do all the rubbish and recycling next.. wonder if that will be so easy.

Valium You might like the Uppababy Vista as an alternative to Stokke Xplory. It has an add on so can take two kids. I absolutely love the Xplory too and have been obsessing for several months over it, though am now almost certain to get the Joolz Day in denim. Appeals in the same way as Stokke. Joolz copes better with rough terrain, which will be good where I live, and I have found a website where it is Eur 150.00 off.

I went through all the bits and pieces for baby yesterday. Going to start washing sleep suits and bedding. All v tiny and cute.

Think I'll get dressed now and get on with some chores. Hope you're all having a good bank holiday weekend. I am fed up with this weather and just a little bit bored.

Midgetm · 06/05/2012 11:53

banana so happy you and BB are settling in so well. I was also very reassured about you saying you were so tired but everything was ok. That's how I feel. Particularly with this darn virus.

Took another turn for the worse but now feeling slightly human. Worried about my weight loss and DD still very bad so literally syringing fluid into her every 5 minutes. Motherhood is the most beautiful thing and all but sometimes...

Took your wise advice and sold my cup final ticket. Just as well as didn't leave my bed all day. Should buy us all virtual cakes with the profits.

Very much hoping my Nurse ratched impression will keep DD out of A&E and off a drip. Thank god for the TIvo box and lots of Disney movies.

10000fireflies · 06/05/2012 12:36

Sorry to hear you and DD are still poorly. Good job you didn't go to the cup final!! Your bean will get all the nutrients it needs (to your detriment, if necessary!!), so no need to worry about that at the moment. Can you get something to build you up though? FF

littleredmonkey · 06/05/2012 20:24

Midget - sorry to hear you are still poorly and your DD as well, you sound like a fantastic mum. Hope you both feel better soon and regain your love for some food really soon. Two T's always work for me Tea and Toast.

May have been a bit keen bean today and knackered now, thank god for bank holiday Monday.Felt guilty not helping partner with decorating the kitchen so I chipped in after a session at the gym and swim. Legs feel like lead weights. I could do with some of that virtual cake that midget is going to buy us all. My gym gear was so tight today and trouser were half mast I caught a look in the mirror with horror. Only thing I find comfortable is my PJ's. I went into town Saturday to try on maternity clothes. Chirst does everything have to have words on the top or frilly sleeves. Went to Debenhams and Fatface to went larger is tunics and tops and going to stick to leggings. Poor partner having to wait for me outside every fitting room.

Banana - So exciting with your new little boy. Shame we cant do pictures bet he is cute as a button. The name will come when it comes . Thanks for the bit about the birth about relaxing and letting nature take its course. Its the only thing at the moment that has my brain in knots.

Midgetm · 06/05/2012 21:47

Evening all, thanks for the well wishes again. FF No time for building me up as been in a&e with DD as dehydrated. Think she's on the mend, poor little soul. This virus sucks! Good news is my appetite is slowly returning. Hoping tomorrow will bring health and happiness back to the midget household.

LRM very jealous of your over achieving. I've done nothing except hurl, clean up hurl or fret with my legs in stirrups. Oh the glamour of illness, pregnancy and motherhood. Tomorrow will be a better day. And homeland is on now so my day is looking up.

Night night all x

triplets · 07/05/2012 08:35

Goodmorning lovely ladies, just want to say you all sound a lovely bunch and I wish you all well with your babies:)
I had my triplets 2 months before my 46th birthday, a girl and two boys, they are now 14! I loved every minute of carrying them and wish I could turn back the clock and have their first two years esp all over again :)

littleredmonkey · 07/05/2012 15:46

Midget - Hows your DD today? Sounds a terrible virus but glad she is on the mend and your appetite is returning. Dont be jealous of my over achieving, been the lazyest gym goer you have ever seen today, I went on three machines and could not have been slower if I tried only went with partner so we could continue swim lessons which invloved me attached to a float paddling next to him while passing suppport comments for his swimming. He is doing very well and done quite a few length in the last two days. Very proud of him and his splashing which is funny as hell. For someone who is terrified of water he has done a grand job.

Triplets - WOW three in one go !!! very impressed.

I think I feel my little bean move today on quite a few occassions . What did it feel like to everyone else. Mine felt like a ball rolling about .

OP posts:
10000fireflies · 07/05/2012 18:07

LRM that sounds quite cute, a ball rolling about. In the earlier months I felt little other a werid muscle twitching and it was really only until week 28 that I could really feel LO moving about.

How's the midget household today? Better I hope?

The rain has finally stopped here and there are little smidges of blue sky. Everything feels better when the skies clear. Docs for me tomorrow though. I've had a really sore wrist for about 4 weeks now so going to walk-in clinic to see what that's all about. Really want it fixed before LO puts in an appearance, and as it hurts to pick cat up, assume a baby will be a similar probl. Also, consultant PM to see whether low liquor is a problem. Worries me deeply that they don't really know why I've had extra scans, but at least it picked that issue up. You really do have to be on the ball with your own healthcare.

Started washing LO's clothes and bedlinen. Ridiculously cute looking on the clothes horse!! Wish my stuff was so compact!! Grin

Have a good evening everyone. FF xx

FjordMor · 07/05/2012 21:02

Valium - :-) ooh the Stokke...well, we've got the main buggy thing, which I love because you can have baby high up and facing you or facing out, as you like. We also have a carry cot/pram for the chassis and may well end up buying the car seat that also fits on the chassis and is suitable from birth (if that's as great as it looks, probably won't use the pram bit much). It's Maxi Cosi compatible. The main complaints I've heard from 2 people who swapped theirs for other buggies are that it is a little heavy to get in and out of the car and takes 5 click-steps to fold down rather than the more simple folding mechanisms of buggies like Maclaren. The one I bought 2nd hand was going to be sold with the foot board as extra but I didn't take it. The lady I bought it off said it was really useful though and her toddler found it fun. Not sure you can strap them on there though...you'd have to check the website here - specs and instruction books are all on there.

Midgetm - so sorry to hear about you & DD continuing to be poorly. Sounds like you've both had some kind of norovirus - yucky! I had my late dad in A&E on a drip with that...not serious long term but an acute nasty business while you're suffering. I do wish you a speedy recovery and hope you're getting lots of tlc from your OH. Don't worry too much about the weight loss - just keep up the lollies & ice creams as soon as you're feeling up to them again Wink. Speaking of which...

FF - do you get tingling in your hand as well? Might be carpal tunnel. I've got that bloody annoying thing and it's apparently not uncommon in pregnancy. Annoyingly there's not much that can be done with it other than wrist supports but the doc assured me it usually disappears after you give birth. Finding some of this series helpful. Hope it's nothing more complicated than that - let us know what the doc said.

Midgetm · 07/05/2012 22:53

evening all, thanks for all your well wishes. I feel we are coming through it all. Had another baby scare as wiped in the night with bright red blood instead of brown and sine cramps. Cue huge freak out but all seems fine so need to hang on in for consultants app and see if we can get to the bottom of the bleeding. I won't rest till it buggers off, makes me suspicious. DD still being sick and looks like small skinny Victorian child with huge bags under her eyes. Really hoping she turns a corner tomorrow, too small aren't they for all this business. Thank god it's nothing serious though. Fjord think is is the norovirus as a friend had it. Made by Satan himself eh? Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and so much worse if you are old or small or pregnant.

FF sounds like you are getting really well prepared. I took your good advice and used the restorative power of lucozade. Coats your teeth but picks you up, of that there is no doubt. Hope you et to the bottom of the bad wrist - need full strength for D day.

LRM movements started for me like fluttering, now more like tugging or pushing that will be my slack uterus. Must say the wind I have had lately has drowned out the poor bean - its a fighter that's for sure. Blush Ball rolling is a nice description and kind of appropriate.

Supposed to be going to work but think I may still be contagious and don't want to infect people or leave DD. she is being vile to DH, just wants her Mum. So I will work from home before facing the world.

Here's hoping tomorrow turns a big corner - poor DH's birthday has been shit. We will have to have another one. Sleep tight everyone.

littleredmonkey · 08/05/2012 09:32

Morning ladies

Have taken the day off work, had the worst nights sleep ever, so exhausted. Really dizzy and feel like crap so on my sofa and have set up a nest to rest on. I can hardly keep my eyes open and feel sick as a pig. Feel guilty not going to work but think I would be ill on the shop floor and nothing worse when you arrive at work feel worse and have to get home especially on the bus.

midget - i really feel for you honey. Hope you and DD are feeling a bit better this morning. When is your appointment to see your consultant? Sending you hugs . Satan has got a lot to answer for.

ff - Let us know how you get on your your appointment with your wrist. Sounds painful.

We all need some sunshine !!!!

pinkposey · 08/05/2012 12:05

Hi all, I'd like to join the group please... I have been trying to catch up with all the posts so far here, but I haven't got through them as yet... ! I'm 40, and have one son already, age now 16 months, who was an IVF baby, and this has been a natural pregnancy - I found out I was pregnant at the IVF clinic just after receiving my medication for a next cycle, after one previous failed one. Totally shocked as we hadn't used precautions once in 6 years together and I had actually had thought it was pretty impossible to get pregnant naturally!, but of course delighted! I live in DR Congo because my husband works in aid / relief / development (as do I, but I haven't gone back to work since my son was born) but I'm British, and will be coming home to have the baby. Due date 24 December. At the moment, I'm fine and excited but feeling constantly exhausted.

Midgetm · 08/05/2012 12:20

LRM Sorry you are feeling so peaky - do you think it is pregnancy related or have you caught the norovirus via the world wide interweb from me? Resting is the best thing for you by the sound of it.

Pinkposy Welcome to the old birds club. Sounds like you have had a rather lovely surprise with this pregnancy. You are very welcome to join us. Good luck with your pregnancy - you can come fret and complain with the rest of us.

Well my bleeding hasn't buggered off so still back of my mind worried but the Norovirus seems to have done its worst and leaving the building. DD has kept down breakfast and now I just need to start feeding the poor little scrap up again. I can see far too many bones for my liking.

Hope you are keeping well today and there is a name for Babybanana

Hpbp · 08/05/2012 12:44

oh I am so sorry for all of you who are having stomach bugs, sore wrist, bleeding, nausea.... pregnancy should be smooth and filled happy moments. Come on Sunshine, we need you here ! cheer us up with your warmth !
Really hope this week will see the end of these illness for all of us. Thinking of you.

Have been feeling baby's movements for about 8 to 10 weeks now. This is a incredible feeling, isn't it ? I can stay in bed for ages just to feel the baby move... sometimes it is just like a fish jumping out of water, other times it is a proper football kick with a tummy that completely changes shape for a second !

Went to play with the Uppababy Cruz as well over the week end. I love it. It is not the sexiest pushchair in the world but it is simple to use and ticks all my boxes for a city use:

  • easy fold - 2 hands but one action only
  • big basket (one of the biggest of the market with the Uppababy Vista)
  • suitable from birth without a carry cot
  • big sun canopy and spy window
  • 5 recline position, one is flat
  • high seating from the floor (almost 55cm from floor level - not as high as the Stokke or Joolz Day but can compete easily with both of them)
  • light and slim to get on buses
  • good tyres with suspension
  • OK price wise, mid range

I am now just waiting to play with the Baby Jogger City Versa to decide which one to go for... but it will not be released until August ! I am so glad I have been given a proper pram for the first months because LO will be able to lie flat and then I can switch to the Cruz or Versa... could be my Christmas present !

Still awaiting compromise agreement final touch at work. Stressful time.

Lots of hugs to everyone

Midgetm · 08/05/2012 12:55

Hpbp that gave me flashbacks. I signed my compromise at 8 months pregnant with DD. The stress leading up to it was immense but as soon as I had signed it, it was such a huge relief. Hang in there the end is in sight.

littleredmonkey · 08/05/2012 13:29

Hey Pinkposy, welcome to the seniors club and wow you must have been really excited when you found out. Christmas baby as well extra exciting.

Hey Midget - glad you are on the mend, thanks for the well wishes. I have sunk an ass groovy into my sofa. I have eaten but still feel really weak so going to continue resting. No chance of seeing my bones . I have put on quite a bit of weight last three months. I know what I should eat and what training I should do but really have not got the energy to train or to the same extreme. Food wise has been my comfort blanket last few months . I know I will up my game when little one is born. I know I should rethink my diet at the moment but enjoying the odd cake and biscuit. Would normally only have one treat a week. Did that for a year and bloody hell it is boring.

Hbbp - Thanks for the buggy tips, there are sooooooo many to choose from it is mind blowing. I am going to wait till my scan on the 22 May then we are going to start looking properly. God help me when it comes to decorating the nursery. Is everyone finding out the sex of their baby or is any one waiting for a surprise. My colleague at work is going to wait. Dont think I could far to keen to know. My other colleague at work had her scan and they could not see at that moment. She was so disappointed as she has a little girl already. We are only a couple of weeks a part. We could all end up on the mat wing together.

10000fireflies · 08/05/2012 17:54

Avo fellow crumblies Grin

Fjord thanks for the link and info on carpal tunnel. I had wondered whether that was what it was.

Midget have you seen someone about the bleeding? Talked to anyone? Must be difficult with DD to take care of too.

Oh, and LRM see you are knackered and been off work too. Are you feeling any better? Looking at your lunchtime post ? are you sure you?re ok? Really best not to strain yourself with your precious cargo on board. You don?t want to worry about weight gain at the moment at all. Happens to everyone. If you?re planning on breast-feeding, the chances are you?ll naturally lose weight, even if you do eat the 500 calories a day extra required to produce milk. And yes, we all need some more sunshine!! Re finding out sex, I have been surprised by how few people do find out. I reckon it helps to know, but you might want to think carefully before telling people.

Welcome Pinkposey. Like your name. V pretty. What a lovely story!! So nice to get a surprise pregnancy when you don?t think it will happen naturally. Is quite similar to my story ?two failed IVF cycles last year, then when thought all was lost, got BFP, and little one due in just a few weeks now. Back to you though - what a lovely Christmas present for you, your DH and DS!! V intrigued to hear you?re in DR Congo ? do slip bits and pieces of exotic-ness in your posts and maybe send some warm weather/sunshine!!

Hpbp wow ? how amazing to get feelings of movement like that. Lucky you have been given a pram. Takes a lot of the pressure off. Gosh, has it come to a compromise agreement with your work? Not nice, but at least there is a legal minimum they have to offer you.

So, wrist looked at by lovely nurse who diagnosed tendonitis. I now have a very attractive splint to wear, but it?s feeling better already. I have been assured it?s not a fracture, but I can go back in a week if no improvement.

Also, saw consultant re low levels of liquor. She said that as baby looking good and healthy no need to panic, however, she will be leaning on me in my 38 week appt with her to go for induction at week 40. I continue to be a little reluctant, but at the end of the day, the only outcome we all want is to take a healthy baby home with us.

Well, exciting day for me, so going to catch up on some beauty sleep. Hugs to all. xx

Midgetm · 08/05/2012 20:38

Evening all,

FF Glad your wrist is already starting to feel better already, at that rate you will be swinging the little one round one handed by D day. Also good to see they aren't worried about low fluid levels (I thought you mean booze/liquor at first - I have a one track mind). Thanks for asking about the bleeding. I have my consultant appointment tomorrow. Cant come soon enough - I am trying not to worry about it as I know the baby is still ok but can't help but feel there may be something sinister at the root of it. Roll on tomorrow! I am really trying to stay positive but Mr Google keeps making me look up bad stuff. Naughty Mr Google is not my friend.

LRM Are you feeling any better? I so intend to find out the sex this time round if I can. I didn't last time but I think it will help DD prepare and I am more curious this time (and it is more practical).

Hope you are all well - I may go to sleep soon - that way it will be closer to my consultants appointment, and hopefully some answers for this wretched bleeding.

FjordMor · 08/05/2012 20:58

Welcome pinkposey :)

Midgetm - I'm sorry to hear about the bleeding. Good luck at the specialist tomorrow. I'll have everything crossed for you that it's nothing sinister.

Hpbp - very jealous of your movements (the babies ones I mean! Wink) I do hope your compromise agreement gets sorted soon. I'm sure you could do without that extra stress.

FF - Glad you got that wrist sorted. I do empathise (although mine are more stiff and numb/tingly than painful). Hope the splint works. These things are rarely long term so I'm sure as Midget says you'll be swinging the baby around when it arrives :).

LRM - hope you're feeling a bit better. I'm definitely finding out the sex. I'm just too curious and have been sure it's a boy and looking only at boy clothes for ages. Also we've promised the DSDs they can decorate the nursery before it arrives. I'll be gutted if it 'hides' on my 20 wk scan!

Hpbp · 08/05/2012 23:54

Ladies,

I am sure your turn will come very soon and you will feel baby moving around so much that you will ask for mercy. Some of my friends were in tears with kicks and feet stuck in their ribs ! Actually, I feel like throwing up sometimes because this little girl has a weird position and is pushing on some organs or I don't know what that gives this vomiting feeling. She also wakes me up in the middle of the night with her rock and roll dancing !

I have always wanted to know the sex of the baby. Everything is much easier. Planning is my second nature, though... For example, I could not agree with my DH on a boy's name for this second baby, now we know it is a girl, we have 2 names to choose from. A very good friend of mine has had a baby girl in Feb, she has started pushing towards me all the clothing her little girl has grown out of already... Fjord, we have decided to go for a very colorful nursery, with vibrant and bold colors instead of pastel blue or pink so that DS1 has a new room to share with his sister. Our study room will become a playroom and DS1 bedroom will be for both to sleep in. Easier for the old parents (me) if one cries in the middle of the night.

Thinking of all of you. Midget, let us know how it goes tomorrow, hope DD will get some rest and you too. FF hope this wrist will leave you in peace. LRM don't worry about weight gain, you will be running after the LO soon enough to lose it and BF also help. PinkPosey, DR Congo, waouh ! That is very exotic, indeed, you are the only one who does not call for sunhsine, I bet. We are travelling : Fjord, Zimbo, PinkPosey... who else ?!

Time to get some sleep. This issue at work keeps me awake. I hate them for making things so difficult and for ruining the 5 years relationship. GRRRHHHHH
