Hi
I am 43 and expecting my first and these next several months are going to be a challenge so hoping to meet others in the same situation.
I can believe I have a baby growing in my dusty cobweb ridden womb. It has taken me 3 weeks to get my head around the whole thing and it is still worried about the future and being able to cope. My partner is fab and great helping me with the ups and downs of baby hormones. Nothing beats hot sweats, night panics and freeze in the middle of tescos wondering our we doing the right thing. I feel better this week and got my head around things .
Any ladies who also need support or just to have a good moan every now and again. xx
Ps thinking about having a toilet built next to my bed to save time going to the loo quite a bit in the evenings!!

42 in August and DC3 is 7 weeks today - 12 year age gap and unexpected! Love it, less stress, feel great and could honestly pop another one out tomorrow.

Good luck ladies

bytheseaside · 18/04/2012 18:12

thanks midgetm. Do I need any special kind of gel?

congrats deardear!

Hpbp · 18/04/2012 21:04

I had this strange idea today. We could meet up all of us at one hospital which has good 3D scan equipment. 30 pregnant 40 something women, that is a lot and quite a scary crowd, no ? VQ would show us how to neutralise a sonographer without harming anyone. We lock ourselves in a scan room and take turn to look at our bean one by one on the screen and listen to HB. We could do that every week in a different hospital. That would make the weeks without scan less dull, no ?

These pg hormones.... They are making me go mad !!!

Apart from that, I am back on the fighting mood at work. I will not resign, following your advice not to. At the moment we are looking at a compromise agreement but we do not agree on the amount, the company offers 2 units and I want 6. But I am not letting it go. My boss managed to suggest that I could resign if I wanted peace of mind ! I suggested then that I could just start a ML also straight away as I am just 25 week pg this week .... He perfectly knows that we have major deadlines coming up in June and Sept, so not having me until mid June is not very an option. It is a poker game, isn't it? The game is still on but I am off tomorrow until 30 April... Shame I have booked these hols a long time ago. But I am so not in the working mood anyway

Also, I have the growth scan tomorrow to rule out the risk of skeletal dysplasia, so my mind is more with the baby than anything else... Wish me luck.

I will have more time tomorrow to reread everyone's latest posts.

Bye for now

10000fireflies · 18/04/2012 22:30

Good luck hpbp! Let us know how it goes. Your boss sounds like a prize tosser. That would make me dig my heals in.

seaside underwired is ok so long as does not cut into breast tissue. I detest mumsy non wired bras. Make me really mis. Found gorgeous red underwired number yest in lingerie boutique. Really comfy, but not sure if I can justify £50 for 8 weeks wear. May crack yet...

Sweet dreams all. Ff xx

bytheseaside · 19/04/2012 09:09

hpbp sounds like you could accuse your boss of constructive dismissal after saying that! blimy! Keep making a record of exactly what they say to you.
Sending lots of luck your way for today

fireflies haha a £50 quid bra! Love the extravagance. I'm not huge, but find non-wired give no support and just look so dismally awful.

exexe · 19/04/2012 12:07

ValiumQueenYay for 8hrs sleep!

Deardear Congrats! Thats lovely to hear.

Hpbp You stick to your guns! I can't believe the way you're being treated. Its appalling.

I had my weigh in this morning and have stayed the same weight which is great but I cannot stop eating now! I've had about 5 slices of toast and marmite and have been munching on Japanese rice peanut crackers!. I think I've been eating non stop for 1.5 hrs. Its terrible.

Midgetm · 19/04/2012 13:18

posting from the car do but garbled.

bytheseaside gel is supplied with the one I got but yes I think much easier with it.

HP hang tough and play then like you are playing poker. I was in a similar situation with D and ended up doing very well out of it. Record all the thi gs they say as it amounts to sex discrimination but avoid resigning and trying for constructive dismissal as harder to prove and a riskier business (also more costly). You are so right that it is a game if poker so practice that poker face. I ended up signing a comp agreement
at 8 months an it was stressful but in the end was the best thing I did. Really tough to deal with when up the duff though. X

exexe mm marmite. Step away from te toast...

On my way to the lakes for a few days. Dying for a wee, poor DH has to stop every 20 minutes. DD got her first choice primary school and Chelsea beat Barcelona, hope this is going to be a lucky street for the midget family x

Hpbp · 19/04/2012 14:43

Hello ladies, just a quick one from the mobile device to keep you updated.

Back from hospital, 4th scan at 25 weeks and 6 days, I saw the baby yawning and sucking her thumb... And I have a pic of one foot next to one hand ! Baby's growth is steady, consistent with previous measurements so doctors reckon it is just a small baby and short long bones are constitutional, nothing to worry about. Yeah ! 2 other scans have been scheduled, in 4 weeks and 8 weeks.
I have to meet a consultant to talk about induction, this is age related of course, neither of us want to wait for 42 weeks anyway so "LO, do you hear me, don't be late. I know it is warm in here but when I tell you, make sure you are ready to come out."

All for me at the moment, need to have some lunch, will catch up later.

NB : thanks for the support re work, have a telephone meeting later today as well with boss. So need to prepare mentally for that too.

Brew Brew Brew Brew

Midgetm · 19/04/2012 16:27

That's great news. Nothing wrong with a small one. Says the midget.

Bananna1 · 19/04/2012 17:00

Just had my discussion with the consultant about induction due to age. It wasn't the with my original consultant who said he'd only let me go a week over, as he was on holiday, so don't know what the outcome with him would have been.

This one seemed very laid back - due to having a healthy pregnancy with no high blood pressure or problems, and three previous normal deliveries, he recommended induction at 41+4 days. He even said I could refuse this and go 2 or 3 weeks over, as long as I agreed to monitoring and extra scans.
So, all seems fairly relaxed, I don't want to be induced anyway, so will just chill and see when baby wants to make an appearance. No panicking for now! (Won't be saying that when it's really overdue!!)

exexe · 19/04/2012 19:09

Midget have a great time! Hope you get some good weather.

Hpbp Aaah that scan sounds so cute. Good to hear all is going well.

I'm going for an elective this time so hopefully no discussions about inductions for me!

Did you get letters quite soon after having 12 week scans? I'm still waiting for my blood test and scan info.

oo00PIXIE00oo · 20/04/2012 00:26

Hi ladies do you mind if I join in? Have been reading your posts aver the last couple do days and some have made me laugh and some mad me cry but all have put my mind at rest! After having two weeks of period like pains and no period at nearly 42 I was convinced I was going through 'the change'. I had my daughter at 32 after trying for a number of years. Split up with her father sometime ago and am now in a loving new relationship - we hadn't been trying for a baby just not trying not to lol - after nearly two years and nothing were resigned to the fact that I ws pasted it! So after two weeks of pain I decided to bite the bullet and by a pg kit - I couldnt believe my eyes and was convinced it was a mistake so waited a day and did another - both the same result a I now have my first gp appointment tomorrow and am in the realms of being scared, excited worried all in one. Haven't told the family yet - that's a bridge I'm not looking forward to crossing. Due date by my calcs is 19th dec - the day before my daughters 10th birthday! Now I'm going to try and get some sleep as soo nervous about tomorrow! Look vorward tomchatting with you all - Nite x

york67 · 20/04/2012 15:19

Welcome pixie I was similar. Thought my days of having children were over.
Just had 17 week appointment. Aal good so far and heard heartbeat which was great.

bytheseaside · 20/04/2012 17:59

Congratulations pixie! and lovely scan news hpbp

afm I'm counting the minutes until next week's 12 week scan, beginning to lose faith again... and had my first stupidly hormonal day in ages today - just when I was beginning to feel serenely pregnant. I need to get it together! Feel like I'm worse than useless at work, but I can't say I care as much as I would have done a year ago... :)

lotsofcheese · 20/04/2012 18:58

hi everyone - it's taken me about 2 days to master the art of cutting & pasting on the laptop (clearly a severe case of pregnancy brain!) Hope I've got it right & not missed anyone out (sorry if have!)

FjordMor · 20/04/2012 19:03

Hello all :)

Valium - glad to hear you're off. I'm glad you're going to the doctor too. I remember really beating myself up over going to get signed off by the doctor then in the end, when I got in there & started explaining everything that was going on, I cried, and he was most insistent it wasn't healthy to have that much on your plate & I certainly shouldn't be coping with work as well. And I wasn't even pregnant. Do think of you often x

Banana1 - how exciting! Being only 15+6 with my first I can't imagine being at your stage but I guess it will be here before I know it!

Hi lotsofcheese - wow! What a journey! Everything crossed for you that things will go better for you this time!

deardear - you've inspired me & cheered me up!

hpbp - Hope things work out with your job & things went ok with your chat with the boss. Agree with bytheseaside I rather liked your 'storm the ultrasound office idea' Wink. I'm itching for another scan as have got to the stage again where I'm convinced nothing's in there anymore (despite that being ridiculously irrational). Have even put off announcing my news to the wider world as I kind of want further 'proof' that everything's still ok before I confidently proclaim Blush. Congrats on the scan :).

10000fireflies - I'm in bra hell :-\ Mine cost £50 normally and now I'm around 2 sizes bigger & almost looking at custom made or boobies by thighs in the long run Shock. There's almost nowhere in Norway to get them so facing the prospect of using Bravissimo/Figleaves international delivery & probably having to pay for (the inevitable) returns :-.

Right...gotta cook but still catching up...back soon... (board breathe sighs of relief as a long post doesn't turn into an epic one Wink...)

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2012 19:48

Thank you fjord, that helps Smile

Doctor signed me off for two weeks initially and wants to see me before I go back. I am beginning to feel marginally better.

I have my scan next thursday, when I will be aprox 12 weeks so really looking forward to that.

I am hoping for triplets (clearly needs sectioning under MHA!)

ValiumQueen · 20/04/2012 19:50

When I was a teenager I had my palm read, not that I believe in that kinda stuff, but something the woman said really stuck - you will have a large family, but very late in life.

DD2 is two tomorrow Grin

littleredmonkey · 20/04/2012 20:02

Evening ladies
welocme to pixie
Sorry been missing a few days again just updated myself with all your news. So pleased for you Hpbp with your scan. Midget hope you have a fab weekend at the lakes. I award Valium star of the week for 8 hours kip and no visits to the loo. What was it like? I have reduced my wizz routine now down to 2 trips instead of 4 or 5 so small bonus.
Went to the see the midwife today. Aok she says no issues, she says I am a fine looking older lady with a bun in the oven. I am amazed at the size of my bump everyone at work thinks I look 6 months not 3 . I am now offically a very large mummy machine ( oh with gas) . I still not had letter from the hospital about 1st scan she did ring but notes cant be found or more likely cant be arsed to be found. She was confident no issue as no letter or phone call. I am not worried as I have a consultation at the hospital on Monday to have a chat to a doctor as old bird syndrome. Get the afternoon off work as well.

FjordMor · 20/04/2012 20:17

Right...where was I?

LRM - glad everything's looking dandy :)

Interested in all this talk of dopplers. Didn't think I was worried, but learning I won't even see a doc to get referred for the first time to a midwife until I'm nearly 17 weeks (next Friday) has convinced me to try to see one of the private midwives in Stavanger this week & seek a doppler/scan just to calm my jitters.

Pixie - Welcome :) Thanks and my story is a little like yours (not not trying, not sure if we could do it and um...bingo - I'm 41 & with a great partner after 39 years of rubbish ones) except I don't already have a child. I still feel like I've cheated luck or something! :) Don't be scared. Just take it a day at a time! :)

Thanks for your offer of sorting out my lot MidgetM :) and yes, bytheseaside, I'm sure you're right that I'll never be able to 2nd guess just exactly what will embarrass DSD1! Things are definitely calming down on the stepkids/ex front (although since hearing the news they have become terribly keen on us getting a dog :-\ - not sure I can cope with a puppy and baby, especially since they're not around all the time to cope with puppy). My main issue now is getting ante-natal care. 16 weeks (tomorrow) is a little late to be not booked in anywhere, without a midwife, and never having had an ante-natal appointment. I have lots of aches & pains in my belly, had a shivering thing last night in bed, have carpal tunnel, and am still feeling nauseous/hungry all the time etc. Have some good days but today could have slept all day as well as all night & could not get warm. I thought all our extra blood by 2nd trim was supposed to keep us warm? Ah well, a bit of private care seems inevitable despite me being heavily in debt, unemployed and brassic. What to do?

Hope everyone's managing to have a relaxing Friday evening :).

littleredmonkey · 20/04/2012 20:40

Just been treated to a chocolate milkshake and brownie from mcdonalds
Happy Happy days
Ps - easily pleased with food !!!

oo00PIXIE00oo · 20/04/2012 21:36

Well had first drs app today and feel a little disappointed - he asked when last period was and if I was having any problems - he asked if I was happy going to the antenatal clinic and completed the referral form - told me I would have a scan at about 16 weeks and said goodbye :( is this normal?

Midgetm · 20/04/2012 21:51

pixie very normal. I didn't even go this time round just self referred. They just do a little bit of paperwork. Although scan should be at 12 weeks not 16.

Just a quick post from my phone . Currently eating my way round the lakes....

FjordMor · 20/04/2012 22:09

Pixie - I felt like that after my GP appt (I was so gutted after mine I had a little cry Sad). I expected to maybe be weighed, have BP taken or perhaps a urine test. I just got a referral chat. For me I was heading to EPU as was leaving the country before 12 weeks. Since you're on this thread (ie. 40+) you need to have a scan around 12 weeks to get your nuchal translucency tests for Downs etc (if you want them).

I'd say if you don't hear from your chosen ante-natal unit with a scan date for at least 12 weeks, I'd chase them up about it or head for your nearest EPU and self-refer. That at least fast-tracked me 'upstairs' to the NT testing bit (when I explained my situation). Mostly though, don't worry. If you have any problems or worries before your booking in/first scan you can always head to the EPU (you should be able to find your local one online).

I do know how you feel Sad - very demoralising but sadly a fairly normal experience these days it seems.

ValiumQueen · 21/04/2012 08:59

Pregnancy is a major thing for us, but really quite dull for a doctor. When I saw gp with DD2 I was asked if I wanted to keep the baby. I guess many women do not so GPs cannot assume anything. This time I referred straight to mat services.
