FFS if another person brightly tells me that they went into spontaneous labour at 37 weeks I will not be responsible for my actions.

Had a sweep today - well tried to, but cervix so high there was nothing much they could do. 1cm open apparently but this is baby #3 so I don't think that means anything.

Baby not engaged.
No pains.
No braxtons.
No cramps.
No show.
Nothing.

RARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Am managing to stay cheerful in real life so I thought I'd come here for a rant and a weep. I'm done now. I have been pregnant for a very VERY long time. Could I PLEASE just have my baby now please?

silent as flisspaps says go today rather than putting it off. Our assessment unit shuts at 5pm but they say if there is concern ring the delivery suite and they can assess up there on delivery triage. It isn't worth the risk holding off

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 06:09

am at the hospital now. ctg seems fine and they're giving me a good check over. am going to request a scan i think, to check fluid levels, placenta etc. baby still moving less often but going big reassuring summersaults in between rests.

Glad everything seems fine :)

+12 here now. Had a sweep on Friday. Cervix having been unreachable Tuesday it was down, not completely thinned but working on it and was 2cm. MW had a good fumble with it and said lots of things about my going into labour this weekend. Baby clearly doesn't agree.

They will be ringing me on Mon or Tues if I 've not had him by then. Suppose then I'll pack a bag, head into hospital, have scan/monitoring and then see what's what.

If, for example, they were able to break my waters is there a reason why I wouldn't be able to go home afterwards? Obviously any other sort of interventiaon/induction would mean the HB was out of the window but I can't think af any reason for waters.

This next week is going to be a nightmare. Been on at dh for ages to just book some leave as he has a week or so to use before the end of March plus his paternity when baby arrives. Course he hasn't done it. But since looks like I'm going to have to be traipsing into hospital and back, possibly induction, there are only so many childcare/pick up favours we can ask form friends! I kind of need him around!

Would be a whole lot easier if I just went into labour tonight. I cannot be arsed to do the school run again on Monday.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 08:50

Lets both go in to labour tonight Indith.

I've had a slight change of plan - had a scan which showed dropping fluid and decreased blood flow so am booked for induction 1st thing in the morning. Either of those things alone would be okay, but both together coupled with decreased movement plus the fact that everything feels a bit different all adds up to lets get it out.

Am also 2 cm and dr had a good old poke around. Am now a bit crampy. Will go for a walk and hire a tens this aft I think.

Indith · 04/03/2012 09:06

Fingers crossed for you.

At least if you are already 2cm and things happening then induction should just be a gentle nudge in the right direction rather than full on management.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 09:10

Thank you. Yes, hoping for gentle nudges. Have had 2 inductions already and they were both highly medical every step of the way. But was lucky and had 2 vaginal births and 2 big healthy babies.

Flisspaps · 04/03/2012 09:56

Best of luck for today silent

melliebobs · 04/03/2012 10:21

42 weeks. Still here. A cervix that can't be swept. And no baby.

Gonna make the most of my last baby free Sunday. Going to the cinema in Bolton (20 miles from us) for added jeopardy AND I'm not taking my maternity notes with me either. 2 fingers to spontaneous labour right there!

babydust27 · 04/03/2012 13:08

I think we know who the rebel on this thread is mellie!!!

TabithaChanges · 04/03/2012 14:46

40+10 now , had pineapple , hot curry and been walking out and about all weekend. Absolutely nothing. Got 2nd sweep tomorrow urgh :( . Can only hope something has changed a bit. Think I'm heading for induction. Does anyone know if when you go in and they give you the pessary first whether you can go home or are you in and monitored from the start? I will ask midwife tomorrow but just thought of that as it says they wait 24 hours after pessary.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 15:10

You have to stay in once you have had the pessary.

Standard procedure for an induction goes as follows:

CTG
Prostaglandin pessary.
Cannula inserted and bloods checked.
Bed for an hour (so gravity doesn't dribble all the stuff down your thigh I assume)
Wander round for 6 more hours.
Vaginal examination to see how dilated you are.

Repeat above up to twice more until you are dilated enough for them to manually break your waters which they do with a crochet hook sort of thingy.

Syntocin drip to force uterus to contract until it's either time to push, or time to get the forceps / ventouse.

And there are various CTGs and vaginal examinations and possibly blood tests that I've missed out.

At any point during the above your body might suddenly go "OH RIGHT! I GEDDIT!!" and complete the process itself. And there is always the chance of EMCS, but fingers crossed for not.

Am not any sort of authority on any of the above, just a mum who has had 2 inductions. Think I've remembered right, but happy to be corrected.

TabithaChanges · 04/03/2012 15:18

Thank you very much SilentBoob that was very helpful , one more question , do they allow husbands to be with you during this process or do you have to be alone until labour starts with only visitors in visiting hours?

I really hope labour starts today for you but if not hope your induction goes well tomorrow.

SilentBoob · 04/03/2012 15:25

That would depend on your hospital policy. For both my inductions I was in a private room and they let dh stay with me the whole time - but I think that was because they really thought that the baby was arriving any minute... for 36 hours! Actually, for the second one he didn't stay anyway because I was more worried about him looking after our PFB so I sent him home to sleep at home with her, and he came back in the morning in the nick of time.

I remember it as being a bit relentless painwise so I did need him there for moral support and to rub my back etc. And also it was very boring. I am going in tomorrow armed with an iPad full of films, sitcoms, magazines, music, games, books, snacks and a phone that connects to the internet.

OP posts:
Indith · 04/03/2012 16:42

Ooooh snotty stuff in fairly large and continuous quantities. I can also feel a difference in position ache in my back, I feel a bit "leaky", doesn't seem like waters (have a pad in and have sniffed) but just feel constantly moist down there with discharge and there is snot every time I go for a wee. Come on baby (after dcs have gone to bed please).

Silent hope all goes well for you tomorrow.

melliebobs · 04/03/2012 17:08

tabitha at my hospital birth partners are only allowed to stay between 12 and 8pm unless you are in established labour. Which I think is really crap.

As for the process of induction it varies on the individual and the hospital. But from the booklet from my hospital it says in a nutshell

  1. discuss concerns/preferences with Mw. Bp, urine, ctg for 30mins followed by internal examination

  2. from that they can decide what method to use. Either a propess (slow release tablet) that's inserted in your fanjo. Or a gel that is repeated 6 hourly. Or they may use both. You have to stop on the bed for 30 mins but then encouraged to wander around

  3. if nowts happening you get the oxytocin drip. If you end up on this baby's heart rate will be continuously monitored and your restricted to your bed

For pain relief you can use TENs, aromatherapy, g&a, pethidine, epidural. If you've managed to be induced without a drip you can also use a birth pool

Hi ladies
I have tried all the traditional means to get the baby out!
Yesterday had my first sweep after that went for reflexology and then had a curry, when I got home I had a pinaple and raspberry tea, applets from some pains which went away after few pills nothing happened at all!
Tomorrow is my inducement day, I really don't know what to expect and how they would go about doing it!
Iv been seen by the consultant midwife for the past few month as I have a serious fear of birth for which the consultant gave me the go ahead for the c section, but I have cancelled it twice( 17th 24th of feb) still determined to try the natural birth and try and put my fear away!
My due date was 24th of feb so I'm now 9 days overdue Blush
My midwife is away in France and don't be back till Tuesday! Two weeks ago she booked me for inducement on the 5th of march ( tomorrow) if not in labor by them which I clearly wasn't lol.
And if inducement doesn't help c section for the 6th ( Tuesday)
Could you please advise me on what actual induction is ( I'm from London uch in warren street if that helps) and how long does it actually take!
Iv been booked for 1pm tomorrow to see a last at the ward and been told to take my birth partner with the bag! Does it mean I'm staying over night? I mean I know sounds silly and iv done a lot of research but I keep getting confused!!!!
I just hope that I would have this baby with inducement and it wouldn't get to surgery!
My mum and my partner are both coming with me tomorrow! Smile

melliebobs · 04/03/2012 19:11

There's a couple of posts just below about the process. The Mw who saw me said as a worse case scenario time wise it could take up to THREE days to be induced and deliver. And obviously absolute last resort could be c-section

DianaXXX · 04/03/2012 21:27

Thank u iv had a look now and I seem to understand it a little better now! So scary thoughSad

Indith · 04/03/2012 22:09

Well my waters have gone and I'm not in labour. Been to hospital to have them checked and come home again. If I'm not in labour by 9am tomorrow I have to go in and be induced :(

I want contractions and I want my pool in front of my fire with my own bed to snuggle in afterwards. I have never given birth in hospital and I don't want to!

SilentBoob · 05/03/2012 03:22

indith it does seem as though you're almost there. am really keeping my fingers crossed for you.

i am now strapped to a hospital bed. much reduced fetal movement. time to get it out asap. feeling okay.

silent morning. Today looks like a lovely day to have a baby. And you too Indith Smile

melliebobs · 05/03/2012 08:47

42+1

Still here

Very active baby

Have Mw coming round at some point

If they still can't do anything I give up

SilentBoob · 05/03/2012 09:35

Contractions coming thick and fast here. No drugs or chemicals yet! Was already dilated enough for them to break my waters manually, and that seems to have set me off. Ow. But yay!

babydust27 · 05/03/2012 09:51

very exciting, hopefully we will have some babies born today!!
