sircharles glad you finally got to see the doc but so sorry it was soooo stressful! The NHS can be a bit of a shock after the set up in South Africa!! Hope the breastfeeding class is good...we have ours tomorrow.

Well, somehow I slept quite well last night with minimal loo trips or wakings for heartburn and my nose even seemed to de-bung during the night...but is streaming again now Hmm have my 'ladies only' NCT class this morning and then I think I may just tell work not to expect me until Monday as I think the stress of going in there would not bless me this afternoon!!

How is everyone else this morning?

Cewafwb · 20/04/2012 09:43

Sircharles - having come back from what must have been the most wonderful time ever - and now being here in what must be horrid with the cold, wet weather and the crappy NHS system - don't you want to go back there to live? My dh was bought up there and would love nothing more than for me to say - lets go and live there, but it seems to me that so many South Africans are escaping here so why would we want to go and live there? I know you were thinking about it - what are your thoughts now?

I keep logging in thinking that someone must have popped by now - there are so many of us and most are around 33-36 weeks - its amazing that none of us have gone early.

All good this end, just would so love the builders to disappear asap - its been 11 months now of hardcore building, and I would really love, just for one day, to have the house to myself! The estate agents are coming on Monday to value it and put it on the market, so not only do I have to contend with three small boys, three builders, the house being sold (hopefully due to mounting debt) three school runs - which take an hour and a half twice a day, but also in 4 weeks yesterday - a small baby!

I have been landed with my nephew today who is 18 months old and ever so slightly utterly painful.

Two days of new school run so far and I am knackered! Not helped by being up every night till 11.30 name taping for the last four weeks! I have to now get up and out of bed by 6.15 every morning so you can only imagine what time I will have to get up when the baby comes to make sure it is fed before the boys need feeding and getting in the car at 7.40 each day. It has to be fed before we go because we won't be home till 9.30 when it is due for its next feed! 5.30am starts after half term. YUCK! Plus waking in the night. I think I might forgo the waking it up at 10 so that I can go to bed early, and just deal with the 2/3am one for a while and see if that works. Nothing ever works like you hope it will thats for sure!

I am on antibiotics right now, infact coming to the end, and despite not being hugely pleased about having to take them, the pain of sinusitus was too much to bear, so I have taken them and they let me sleep. An amazing, deep, happy sleep which I can go back into straight away upon waking. No getting up to wee, no heartburn, no agonisingly painful hips, just me and sleep! I haven't slept like this since Christmas! I know its the antibiotics because I took them in Feb/March for a chest infection and the same thing happened! Wonderful things - who would have known!

alwaysanauntie · 20/04/2012 13:30

katy perfectly acceptable to be in tracksuit bottoms & sweatshirt every day now (as I have been all week :o ) comfort is definitely the name of the game for the next couple of months!

sircharles I'm sure high BP was due to stress of trying to get appt etc, hope ur feeling a bit more relaxed now. How is the unpacking going? Hope the bf class was good, the mw who gave ours had a knitted boob to demonstrate on & was scarily good at mimicking the different sucking noises, made me :) anyway. My DH has managed to avoid all pg related appts since 1st scan at 11 weeks, although I've done my best to relate info to him, I'm a bit worried how he's going to handle things when the lo finally decides to make an appearance...

cewafwb poor you, school run sounds a complete nightmare, will you be able to reduce it after you sell the house & move? I don't envy you having all that to cope with. On the popping front, one of the ladies on the other may thread is going to be induced next week due to having choleostasis so I guess we'll start seeing more babies shortly (hoping mine stays put for a while though, too much to do before her arrival!)

I've managed to get rid of heartburn for the time being, only to have it replaced with crippling leg cramps during the night. Am going to try drinking lots more water today to see if that helps, fingers crossed! Here's hoping all our ailments vanish soon so we can have some peace before the onslaught begins :o

BlueCrane · 20/04/2012 14:58

cewafwb I cannot even begin to imagine getting up that early and herding 3 small people around at that time to get them to school, let alone dealing with builders in the house, upcoming house move and of course not forgetting imminent baby arrival Shock you have my utmost respect for dealing with all of that...I struggle with getting myself to crawl out of bed in the morning and out to work which doesn't even vaguely compare!! Really hope things will ease up once the house move is sorted, though I guess, thankfully, it won't be too far off the summer holidays by the time LO arrives!

sircharles I have relatives and friends in SA but have resisted the urge to move there on a number of occasions! That reminds me...only 3 weeks until my DM flies into the UK which will be great! How was your BF class?

always yeah for disappearing heartburn (wish mine would go Sad ) but not good on the leg cramps...I've heard keeping fluids up should help!

Had my ladies only NCT class this morning which was nice, good to hear how all the other ladies are feeling and learn a bit more about pelvic floor exercises!! MUST remember to do them though! Hoping to arrange a little get together with the ladies but difficult to know when to sort it for as our due dates range from right at the beginning of May through to mid/late June so quite a spread! Also wondering whether to involve the Dad's as they (I think) are finding it a little harder to 'click' since they don't have the automatic topic of their bump to talk about! On the tracksuit bottoms front I've just treated myself to a 3/4 length pair from H&M in black which could even be dressed up a bit to look a bit smarter if I wanted...soooo comfy though around my bump! Hope there's enough space in them to see me to the end though!!

alwaysanauntie · 20/04/2012 16:21

bluecrane your post has just reminded me, when I made a passing remark to my dm about doing exercises to help pelvic floor she replied "I never bothered, just have lots of sex!" :o given she had 4 dcs, has a flatter stomach than mine since I was 22 and only 8.5 stone and has been married to my dad for 47 years I thought it made perfect sense!

BlueCrane · 20/04/2012 17:19

Grin always though I'm sure there are some things that are best not thought of in too much detail when it comes to our parents Blush However, I'm sure my DH would be interested in your DM's line of thought and that he could 'help' with the improvement/repair of my pelvic floor Wink Wink

Littlerayofsunshine · 20/04/2012 21:36

Had my growth scan today. Baby is doing well (35+4) estimated weight at present is 5lb 8oz. I think i'm going to have another big baby.... ouch!
braxton hicks are so strong, and movements are crazy. limbs everywhere!
I have the consultant appointment next week so wonder if baby is still 3/5ths engaged and the right way round (not back to back)

katykuns · 21/04/2012 16:08

Cewafwb - I feel bad for moaning to people about doing school run.. we are up at 8am and out by 8.45 lol. I HATE mornings :S

Have had a couple of relaxed days, if you don't count the fact I STILL haven't managed to get the form needed for maternity pay from work :'( I literally have been contacting them for the last month trying to get it. Making me very anxious as we really just can't cope without any money! Dammit >.<
But anyways, have had quite a lazy day, looking at some homeschooling material to help support my daughter, who is currently being assessed at school with learning/behavioural issues. Definitely need to have something to keep her brain active over the summer holidays lol.
Have been getting up every hour and making myself do bits of washing up/cleaning lol

Hope everyone is okay... I have bought another support belt for the bump, because the other one doesn't fit :S oops lol
Plan to get out and buy some more track suit bottoms as well haha

alwaysanauntie · 21/04/2012 16:44

littleray glad to hear all's good with the baby, I guess if your dd was big at birth you know you've already managed a big un, so you can do it again! (but I hope for your sake they slow down in the last month and come out at a nice healthy 7 lbs :) )

I'm having a relaxing bath as I spent the day installing the electric underfloor heating in our new ensuite, I'm so proud of myself that I also scoffed a bar of dairy milk as a treat :o only a little one though! Hope everyone's having a relaxing weekend...

alwaysanauntie · 21/04/2012 16:50

X posted with you katy (as I fell asleep for a bit :o ) I think little bits every hour is the way forward, can't wait til monday when DH is back at work and I can be lazy without feeling guilty :) I'm afraid I don't have any ideas on how to get your work to hurry the help up fingers crossed they sort it out asap xx

alwaysanauntie · 21/04/2012 16:51

help should be hell!

hippieshake · 21/04/2012 18:31

Hi everyone, I hope you're all okay.

DH and I went to visit the hospital today to get an idea of what it will be like. I knew it would be clinical, and just look like a hospital, but it's really put me off. I have to take my own birthing ball if I want one and something to kneel on because it's just a laminate floor. I'm now wondering if I should go for a home birth?

littleray I'm glad everything is okay with the baby :)

Enfyshedd · 21/04/2012 20:02

Hi everyone, good to see all babies are still happily in place and everyone's generally doing ok (apart from colds, sinusitis & things like that).

My back has finally decided to start playing up - Wriggles seems to have decided that my sciatic nerve is a comfy place for him/her to park his/her shoulder, so I've had to resort to a dose of paracetamol to get through the past couple of days in work and being very, very careful when walking anywhere. I tried to make sure last night that I slept on the opposite side to normal with a pillow between my legs to stabilise my hips, but when I do I nearly always have a rubbish night's sleep because I can't get comfy resting on that shoulder - Gah! Angry

Still, only 2 weeks left in work, then a 6th birthday party to arrange for a week later (when I'll be 38 weeks - eek!, but there's only 5 other "little treasures" coming because DSS2 has said he only wants to invite the boys in his class). Am hoping that the party stuff can be prepared during the week so I have plenty of time to rest inbetween plus as the DSSs will be at their mother's for the weekend until a couple of hours before the time the party is being planned for, then it should be less stressful to decorate without an excitable child running around insisting on playing with the balloons you're trying to put up. Might try & persuade my DM that she really wants to help supervise the party though for help (still think the reply will be fat chance).

Sleepy now - hope that I get a better night's sleep tonight...

SirCharles · 22/04/2012 00:21

Evening!! Won't reply to each & every new post as am on phone & not v easy!

All good here. DH back from SA by 7am Fri. Good lad moved all the empty boxes & put up a wardrobe before our NCT BF class. We feel as qualified as we reckon we can be now on all things baby/birth/BF related.... All we need is the baby! I hope it is not early tho as I still have lots to do - complete unpacking, throw out the crap or take to charity, review baby stuff given to us & then go shopping to fill in the gaps, find a cleaner & clean house together, tidy up garden, find a pool & start swimming again, update new address details with banks/CCs/insurance/car regs & driver licence etc, acquire items for, & pack, hospital bag for me, DH & baby......
so much to do but no idea how long I have to do it in!!
Weird to think B could arrive in 1 week & be considered full term. Crikey!!!!! So I could have 1 week, or 4 weeks or even 6 weeks to complete my to do list Grin

DH is likely to have his contract extended overseas..... I am tempted to go join him once the British winter approaches. I even have the opportunity to take a job out there if I want it. Joburg was great - good weather, far better standard of living, home help, great food, far greener than London..... V tempting. Shame friends & family would not be so close & it is not somewhere I would consider as a long term option - too much corruption & greed, gap between poor & rich a gaping chasm which gets bigger not smaller, unsustainable debt levels & the lifestyle is so good I don't think it would be a great idea to get to used to it - would never be able to move anywhere else!!!! Not sure I would want to bring up DC(s) there either once they hit 7 or 8. Teaching them to be suspicious of others, having high walls & gates, having domestic staff.... Hmmm. However schools are good & sport is huge - both playing & watching. & did I mention the food?
I miss the tasty fruit & veg the most. Closely followed by beautiful cuts of meat at a great price. Smile
Right. Off to bed. Sleep well all.

Wommer · 22/04/2012 05:22

Hi all,

Yes it's just gone 5 and I'm posting on the Internet.... Hmm

Looking for some reassurance really.. Had new mum paramedic friend over on Friday telling scary stories about preeclampsia.

Just went to the loo and to my eye my feet and particularly hands look more puffy than usual. I know this can be a sign of PE if it's sudden, but
a) not sure they weren't like this before and hadn't noticed.
B) I know some swelling's ok but how much is too much?! I can still get my rings on and off.
C) there must be other symptoms which I can keep an eye out for. Although the Inet is being unusually rubbish on this.

Any help would be great! Stupid imagination is in over drive!
Gonna lie here and have a chat with Bumpy who's just woken up.
Xxx

HeidiHole · 22/04/2012 06:04

Hi wommer, the main symptom is high blood pressure which they should be checking at your appointments?

Wommer · 22/04/2012 08:32

Thanks Heidi.
They are checking it - last mw was on Thursday and bp was fine. But it thought that it could change all of a sudden?

BlueCrane · 22/04/2012 09:10

Morning wommer you would also likely be getting what they call 'visual disturbances' which is basically seeing odd flashing lights. The swollen hands and feet can also just be a case of water retention and general pregnancy discomfort. If you're worried today then give your MW a call. Try and keep your feet up today if you can and drink lots of fluids which will hopefully help your ankles go down. HTH

Wommer · 22/04/2012 10:09

Thanks Blue. Now in the cold light of day am less worried. Still have puffy hands, but they don't seem as massive.

Have had no headache or flashy vision and baby movements are still good so am assuming I'm alright...

My hands have started hurting tho, can almost feel the ligaments loosening - really weird feeling, like just after you've bent your finger back too far without actually doing it. So maybe that's what was making them puff up.

Have had a pretty easy ride up until now tho and hurty-fat-hand is no where near as bad as some people have had.

Xx

hippieshake · 22/04/2012 10:09

Morning all.

Had a major dose of the pregnancy hormones this morning. It's my birthday on Tuesday and DH has hidden my presents under the bed in the bedding basket. I found them by accident this morning as I went to change the bedding. Luckily they were all wrapped, so I don't know what I'm getting, however, there was a Jo Malone bag. I suspect it contains a perfume that I showed to him about a year ago, which I said was nice but now completely do not like (not pregnancy related.) I feel so guilty that he will have spent so much money on it, and we are flat broke at the moment. I've been crying for half an hour over it. It was such a lovely sentiment, but I can't get over feeling guilty. He's going to give it to me on Tuesday and I know I'm going to start crying again.

It's not like I'll ever wear it either. I sound so ungrateful, and I'm really not. It's completely the opposite and that's why I'm getting myself all upset over it.

I think I'm now going to spend the day under the blanket on the sofa feeling miserable. Has anyone else suddenly started feeling really fed up and weepy?

x

Wommer · 22/04/2012 10:56

Ah bless you hippie .... I know exactly how you feel!

Not feeling too bad today emo wise (she says having just cried a little bit at the marathon!) but I have definitely had my moments recently.

Maybe he's double bluffed you and put your pressies in a different bag? I bet you'll have a lovely day on Tuesday regardless.

Am out to the garden to soak up feel good rays from the sun

Xxx

SirCharles · 22/04/2012 11:04

Morning Hippie! Poor thing. I am also v hprmonal. Crying & snapping.... Feel for you re the gift but wait & see what it is first. If it is something you dont like ask him gently if he would mind you changing it for a different smelly candle which would be suitable for having burning when guests come to see the baby? Dont want anything too strong & worried about new perfume getting into B milk...... Baby is used to what you have been wearing for the last 9 months etc etc...
Don't feel guilty - tis your bday & u deserve a treat after all this time. Love n hugs n gifts! let him spoil u. It may be a while before he gets the opportunity to do it again.
Thinking of you.

Wommer - PE can come on suddenly but have you been told you are at an increased risk? BMI over 30 at start of pregnancy? Low Papp A score at downs syndrome test? Mother or sister who suffered PE?
Things to watch out for incl swollen ankles, flashing lights, the worst headache ever (so my so consultant tells meant way)) high BP and protein in urine are why mw measures.
Do not worry!!!!

Weezie85 · 22/04/2012 11:14

Morning all, not doing well today. Had a stonking cold the past few days, now the cough has started. Wish I could take something for it that wasn't just sugar, honey and lemon. I want the real drugs again. Haha.
Oh well, how do people know if the baby has dropped? Felt like my bump did go down the other week, the kicks stopped in the ribs and could breath slighty easier(before the cold), but now it feels like the bump has gone up a little again.
Thanks :)

katykuns · 22/04/2012 11:24

Hey Wommer.. hope you are okay! If you have any doubts, go get you blood pressure checked out. Otherwise just keep an eye on it x

Hormonal also.. but sometimes I wonder if its just because of all the horrible things I am experiencing lol. 'Lightning crotch' as my friend described it, having trouble going to the loo, the indecency of it all lol. I feel like an old woman!

Thanks alwaysanauntie... I will try and store some of my angry hormones up and go into work tomorrow demanding them to do it (I hope... I am so crap and more likely to accept it and then go sit in the car and have a good cry lol)
The small bits in small doses is definitely the best way to go. I wish I knew why we make ourselves feel guilty when we do nothing though eh? we are making a human being, that's hard enough! hehe.
Will try and finish the deep clean of the kitchen today, and do a sort out of the dining room (become a dumping zone!)... but feeling far less motivated lol.

Angelyaz · 22/04/2012 11:32

Hi all, hugs to those having a rough time at the mo.
35 weeks today and starting to get annoyingly uncomfortable. To be brutally frank, I have fat and itchy fanjo flaps, my pubic bone feels like someone has hit me with an iron bar, I have simultaneous foot in ribs and fist in bladder, up every hour at night to pee like a horse but during the day need to go every quarter hour but pee a pathetic dribble, fed up of lying on my left side but uncomfortable in any other position, need to nap every few hours, exhausted all the time but loads left to do to prepare for chibi's arrival, and can't be bothered to eat anything other than rubbish!
Despite my moans I know I'm still getting off lightly compared to some of you ladies
so you have my sympathy!
Anyway, got to drag my carcass out of bed, catch you all later x
