Welcome dameice, welcome lizziebennet, welcome richardandjudysbuttplug!
heehee, I work in IT too. Is your workplace mostly male? I know it can be a bit of a hard environment for ladies - the dudes want to understand (sometimes), but they don't have much to work with a lot (too much!) of the time.
Are you a dev or a sysadmin? If so, your skills aren't going to date much (Neither JavaScript nor SQL about to change in any dramatic way) and you'll never be out of work :) Even if you're a something-else, remember that your skills are rare, specific, and durable, our industry is growing, more people than ever need us, and we are the trailblazers of flexible hour & remote location work patterns. If I was advising a girl teenager today, I'd tell her to go into IT not just because it's fun and cool but because she is most likely to be able to balance her work & family life in IT than any other type of industry.
Me, I on a contract so I will have 0 maternity leave, but luckily for me we have a little nest egg so it should all be OK.
missbone, if you're bored, maybe you'd like to train up in some coding skills? W3 schools and codecadamy are lovely, easy to understand places to get started, all free and no pressure. If you like it, great, if you don't, you've lost nothing but a couple But a couple of hours :)
