Just had a BFP and wondered if anyone wanted to join me in the rollercoaster ride over the next few months

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 08/02/2012 21:52

Hi everyone. Congratulations on your BFPs! Can I join you? I got my first BFP on Saturday. Have tested every day since and am enjoying seeing that line go darker. I'm now only 14dpo so very early. My due date is 16th/17th October-ish. This is my second baby and I'm altogether a much more chilled out person this time.

Starting to feel nauseous in the morning which is fine as it means my hormones are doing a good job.

Looking forward to chatting with you all over the coming months Grin

missbone · 08/02/2012 22:59

Welcome, Richard (great name!) and congratulations Thanks.

Wow! How heartbreaking was that wedged-baby delivery on OBEM?!! (However, I was getting a bit sick of her parents crowing about how perfect they were together!) Seriously, i was so stressed after watching that birth I had to go for a fag Sad

Don't think love-making is on the cards tonight - DP is obsessing over Fabio Capello's resignation and I am feeling mighty irritable.

P.s..My symptoms: bloating; tender nipples; breasts a cup-size larger (have had to revert to the bras I wore in rehab when I was two stones heavier); and blue veins appearing on tits not dissimilar to those on an Ordnance Survey map.

lizziebennet · 09/02/2012 09:26

Can I officially join too? I got my bfp this morning. Not the strongest of lines, but a line none the less! It's obviously still really, really early, so we wont be telling anyone in RL for ages, but it feels good to be able to tell you all on here.

We're having a baby!! (Forms a single person conga line, may be more than a bit excited)

lizziebennet · 09/02/2012 09:27

And congratulations Richard.

I'm due on the 18th of October.

DameFlatYouLent · 09/02/2012 09:39

shemacin I'm so sorry Sad Hope to see you back on one of these boards very soon.

welcome lizzie and richard, and congratulations! richard, how old's DC1?

HeeHeeHeeBum · 09/02/2012 09:44

Hi again all. I've not posted for a few days as I've been a bit up and down. I have been reading though and you have all cheered me up and made me laugh - especially missbone with her ordnance survey boobs (I have them too) :)
I've been having panics about ridiculous things like what am I going to do about work! I've also had a couple of days where I've had very very slight bleeding - not sure if I should worry or not Confused
Not long until my midwife appointment now - two weeks although it seems like forever.

missbone · 09/02/2012 10:51

Hiya Lizzie! You're already on the roll call afew pages back if i remember rightly? Congratulations on BFP [joins Lizzie's conga line with Dame]!

Hello again, HeeHee! Don't panic: there's quite a bit of spotting and cramping going on on here; we're all desperate for our scans, i think.

I'm dreading another long and boring day without DP (another visit to Preston with his lovely son). I think it's time to drag out the ER box sets...

I wish i lived closer to my Mummy Sad

missbone · 09/02/2012 10:53

HeeHee, tell us more about your work and what your worries are (if you want).

lizziebennet · 09/02/2012 11:01

Hi missbone. Yes, I was already on the roll call, just so relieved to feel that now I can join for real.

Because this is an IVF baby, we get a scan in 3 weeks time, which is great. Feels like an eternity away though!

A wee bit about myself, as I see others have done. I'm 33. If everything works out, this will be my first baby that makes it. I lost my DD at around 20 wks, more than a decade ago.

My DW and I have been having fertility treatment (for obvious reasons) for just over a year - 4 X IUI and this has been our first try at IVF.

Hope you have a relaxing day missbone. I wish I could spend today on the sofa, but I'm stuck at work with no ability to concentrate whatsoever.

HeeHeeHeeBum · 09/02/2012 11:05

Thanks missbone. I work full time in IT and I love what I do - I can't imagine giving it up. Ideally I would like to go part time once I finish my leave but part time positions in this industry are very rare so might not be possible. I've heard a few judgy comments from people about working full time with children and it makes me sad :( I know I shouldn't really be worrying about this at this early stage but I'm just one of those people that needs to know how things are going to pan out.
lizziebennet I'm also at work with no concentration today :)

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 09/02/2012 12:52

Thanks for the congrats :)

DameFlatYouLent DS1 is 5. We aren't telling him until after the first scan though as I know he would be gutted if youknowwhat happened.

So that means we aren't telling anyone else either (apart from our parents who have been sworn to secrecy) as I don't feel it is fair on DS iykwim.

lizzie I am due on 16th or 17th. Depends which day out of the 3 that I had OPKs that I ovulated. I went a week over with DS so I'm prepared for it being in the 20-something of Oct. Is this your first?

missbone · 09/02/2012 12:57

Lizzie, how exciting for you and the missus! An IVF baby! So many congratulations and well done for coming through the heartache and disappointments of the past. My best friend gave birth 3 wks ago to her darling boy and he was a result of IVF, too. She was terrified if miscarriage (they gave her rather dire statistics) and she was forever being scanned because of cramping, spotting/blood loss etc. She had nothing whatsoever to worry about! He's ever so healthy and handsome.

HeeHee, I understand your worries about work, but it's usually the childless women who are the most judgemental...blot them out. Why not go back full-time to a job you love?? As long as that baby of yours is happy and loved, I wouldn't take heed of the fascists who don't always know the facts, and who certainly don't know how it feels to stand in your shoes.

Well, I'm absolutely dying for a cigarette, so I'm off out for a walk instead Sad

missbone · 09/02/2012 13:01

Richard, are you not counting your pregnancy weeks from the date of your last period (sounds like you're calculating from the day of ovulation)? Is anyone else on here doing that? Blimey, if that's the case I'm 3.5 wks pregnant instead of 5.5!!

DameIceAndaSlicePlease · 09/02/2012 13:17

Hello everyone! Smile (and hello Flat, nice to see a familiar face!) can I join your lovey thread please?! I'm 5.5 wks (I think!) pregnant with our 3rd Shock DC!!! It still seems a bit unreal really as I've not got many symptoms, just tender boobs and feeling exhausted! I was feeling sick yesterday but thatseems to have passed now....although my DS was up all night being sick so maybe it was that Confused We've ony told a select few in RL so it's nice to be able to come on here and moan chat about our pregnancys. Congratulations to everyone else as well! Grin

RichardAndJudysButtPlug · 09/02/2012 13:21

missbone First day of LMP was 10th Jan but I ov'd (I think) on either day 15 or 16 according to OPKs.

I'm counting from first day of LMP.

Zoeplankton · 09/02/2012 14:17

Ha ha ha! missbone I didn't think of that wi the hair - you made me laugh! Grin

Zoeplankton · 09/02/2012 14:18

Oop - thought that message would go under missbone's funny comment about OBEM. Don't mind me... Blush

Zoeplankton · 09/02/2012 14:42

Welcome dameice, welcome lizziebennet, welcome richardandjudysbuttplug!

heehee, I work in IT too. Is your workplace mostly male? I know it can be a bit of a hard environment for ladies - the dudes want to understand (sometimes), but they don't have much to work with a lot (too much!) of the time.

Are you a dev or a sysadmin? If so, your skills aren't going to date much (Neither JavaScript nor SQL about to change in any dramatic way) and you'll never be out of work :) Even if you're a something-else, remember that your skills are rare, specific, and durable, our industry is growing, more people than ever need us, and we are the trailblazers of flexible hour & remote location work patterns. If I was advising a girl teenager today, I'd tell her to go into IT not just because it's fun and cool but because she is most likely to be able to balance her work & family life in IT than any other type of industry.

Me, I on a contract so I will have 0 maternity leave, but luckily for me we have a little nest egg so it should all be OK.

missbone, if you're bored, maybe you'd like to train up in some coding skills? W3 schools and codecadamy are lovely, easy to understand places to get started, all free and no pressure. If you like it, great, if you don't, you've lost nothing but a couple But a couple of hours :)

HeeHeeHeeBum · 09/02/2012 14:54

Zoeplankton and missbone you have cheered me up - thank you. Zoe - I'm a dev and the only woman in my team. I had depressed myself looking at the job sites and seeing nothing part time advertised at all (I don't want to have to stay in current role forever). You have an excellent point about the flexible working - I hadn't thought about it like that.

Beans1977 · 09/02/2012 15:31

Hi everyone - happy Wednesday!

I'm feeling a bit out of sorts today - getting some twinges and cramps at the bottom of my stomach and they're unsettling me a bit. Anyone else getting this? Guess I am more paranoid than I thought I'd be after my MMC last year - when I didn't have any cramps or twinges...

Driving myself a bit mad today!

DameFlatYouLent · 09/02/2012 16:18

HeeHee don't stress about work yet (easier said than done, I know). It's so hard to know how you'll feel! I thought I wouldn't want to go back to work, and as such negotiated 2 days a week (the minimum we can scrape by on). But as it turns out, I love going to work, the feeling of normality etc. If I could work more days I would! Although not sure what the house would look like if I did....(housework & general organisation not my forte)

missbone · 09/02/2012 16:21

Zoe, what are coding skills, please? What are W3 and codeacademy? Should i Google these? Oh dear. I sound rather cerebrally-challenged don't I? I promise I'm not [wipes up dribble from chin].

Welcome DameIce (what's with all the dames on here? And how do you and DameFlat know each other? Come on...out with it!) and congratulations Thanks

Beans, chin up, love. I know it's hard for you after your past heartache but we really are all pretty nervous on here and almost all of us are having the exact same twinges/cramps/aches & pains. Try not to be Confused x

Well, I'd better go and shower the sperm off my t**s which DP deposited this morning (I'm still too afraid to let him impale me with his 'pork sword' in these delicate weeks, poor sod).

Zoeplankton · 09/02/2012 16:34

Sorry, missbone! I have done a terrible job of explaining myself Blush

'Code' is the stuff that makes the Internet go. There's the type you use to make websites - that's called HTML, and it has a cousin called CSS which you use to make websites look nicer.

Then there's the type that you use to make websites Do Things, like put items in your shopping basket on EBay or remember your login here on Mumsnet. That looks harder but it isn't really. There are lots of different 'languages' that you can learn that do all those fancy things, they look a bit different but they mostly work on the same principles. Once you've learned one, the rest are easy.

I should have given you links... Again, sorry!

...I like HTML better to learn because it's what pretty much everyone starts with, it makes sense (eventually!) and you can see what you've done actually working every step of the way. Plus if you get the hang of it you can make your own websites, which impresses people ;) W3 schools is a way better place to learn HTML than codecademy.

Hope that helps! And if you don't like it, no harm done :)

DameIceAndaSlicePlease · 09/02/2012 16:53

Well missbone DameFlat and I met in a crowded room...our eyes caught each others and we fell desperately in love...Grin er actually we know each other from the Plurkers thread, if you have the time (or patience) to read it it'll explain our DamenessGrin
