Hi All

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with identical twins :)

I am 6 weeks so still very early but 2 yolk sacs within one sac both with good heartbeats,

Obviously the worst thing to do but I have been googling twin pregnancies and the reading is not pretty. :( I'm now worried about vanishing twin, and also have read its not great they in the same sac, although the sonographer did say it was good they each had their own placenta???

I would be really grateful to hear any positive stories you may have, because I have been left feeling there is no hope :(

My dh went in the loft today, as we saw some maternity clothes up there a couple of weeks ago. Can't believe I kept so much!!!

Have at least 8 pairs of jeans
3 working trousers
3 tops
3 nighties
2 pairs of pjs
a dress for work
3 pairs of linen/summer trousers
2 vests

don't think I'll need to get anymore!!! My normal trousers are getting uncomfortable so think I'll start wearing the smaller mater ity jeans for comfort :) when did everyone else with twins start wearing mat clothes????

DreamingOfPeace · 11/01/2012 21:52

By 16 weeks I was well into mat clothes. Not sure exactly when I first put them on, but tops maybe at 14 weeks. Last time I wore some of my normal hipster type jeans to 27 weeks... And I was very, very late into mat stuff for twins it seems! I had a mw appointment yesterday, and at 25 weeks I'm measuring 29-30, so she said very neat for twins. Maybe thats why... My bump was huge, but I lost so much weight with the puking that I could still wear my normal stuff.

oooh, I'm so excited at how many more will be joining the twins thread. At 22+2 skitoo you're so close to me, I think that's lovely. It's always going to be a worry, but I hope you sail throught he rest of the pregnancy and have your two lovely babies at term Grin . I found 24 weeks a good milestone, even if 'viable' still isn't good if you have them at least there's a chance... That cheered me up immensely.

Now, I hope you ladies have had a sneaky check of the twins ante-natal thread? 3 lots of twins born so far in 2012!!! 2 sets of boys- 1 lot MCDA, 1 lot DCDA, plus DCDA boy/girl twins. It's so heart-warming to hear about, plus makes me so impatient to skip through to the end and meet mine.

Teds77 · 13/01/2012 13:22

skitoo so please that B&E are doing good and hope you got to see them yesterday. Also hope it's helped with the nervousness a little bit.

I did change to the Lister. Guys were really lovely in many ways but at the follow-up appointment after our failed cycle they were pushing us towards donor eggs and didn't really have any ideas about what we could do differently the next time. They also didn't seem to 'believe' in us if that makes sense? At the Lister it was much more positive, and lots of 'We'll do, then we'll try this or this and if that doesn't work we can always do this and then if all that fails we'll starting thinking about donor eggs'. In the end we still only got 3 eggs from our cycle but during the cycle we always felt the glass was half full rather than half empty. Now just hoping and praying all is still okay at our scan.

Dreaming I'm not going to peek just yet but hopefully I join you all shortly!

Hey sorry manic here again.

With my first I had a c-sec at 39+1 due to spd being so bad they felt they would damage me more as was expecting a whopper - as it was he was 8lb 12 and in tiny baby clothes so smaller than they thought. With the first twin pregnancy my waters went at 33+2 and was given steroid injections until 33+3 when I had a c-sec with 2 dinky but perfect girls. No clue I was going to have them just sat up in bed and whoooshhh everywhere!!

With the boys I was having a planned c-sec at 37+6 and went for my pre op at 36+5, had bloods and the talk etc signed forms and left the hospital. Had 2 cracking contractions on the way home but ignoredthem as was having contractions from 29 weeks (was admitted etc but not dilating so went home after 4 days). Got home sat on the bed, waters went again so an hour after I had left hospital I was back in delivery and had the boys 3 hours later by c-sec. One twin stayed with me and one twin was in scbu as was ill at birth.

Morning ladies today I am 11 weeks :)

thank you for posting over the last couple of weeks have been feeling pretty sorry for myself since tuesday, but someone kindly pointed out to take one day at a time, and today I am still pregnant :)

dreaming how are you getting on dd sounds like she is causing some real stress for you at the moment, I hope she had a better night last night for you, and I'll be along to the twins antenatal thread soon :)

bigboobs could I ask how did you cope with the associated risks when you found out you were also expecting mcda twins, this week has been rough for me :( when are you due??? Hope you are feeling well

teds how you doing twin buddy??? Have you started to feel better, I'm not feeling so sick and tired and wondered if it was because past 10 weeks and I heard the placenta kicks in around then Hmm

harrygracejessica thank you for sharing your twin stories, it really helps to hear the positive outcomes! Sounds as if your girls couldn't wait to meet you :) can I ask did you have any problems with their pregnancy, I have suddenly become very worried but trying to take a day at a time ??

Hope I haven't missed anyone out I'm on my phone so difficult to go back! Have a lovely weekend :)

mrss where are you my virtual friend, hope your keeping well :)

goingmad, It's understandable to worry, especially if you've had 2 normal pregnancies and are now suddenly 'high risk' . It totally freaked me out and mine are DCDA. On the twins thread, I was given Biggest Worrier award- I just couldn't imagine something not going wrong. I tried to do what you're trying to do and take one day at a time. For you, you'll have the added stresses of looking out for signs of tts, but its still quite rare isn't it? You get a lot more monitoring though. And you're still pregnant!! (And will be for a good while yet...) It's good to hear of other mcda twin pregnancies going well- quempin had no mcda complications and bigboobs hasn't so far (that I know of).

I'm worrying about dd's constant illness, and the bedtime/ sleep issues... I keep thinking I must be Doing Something Wrong... Today she fell asleep much earlier (as she's off colour) and so was up by 12:30, and I managed to get her to sleep around 8pm- now I'm wondering if she's just not tired enough after a nap 1-3 ish and feeling guilty for ? putting her to bed too soon after a nap... Sure this is what we did before the 3 +months of sleep issues began though Hmm. Everyone you ask has a different opinion though, and now I'm seriously doubting my parenting abilities and whether its all my fault!!! (Not the illnesses, just the sleep...)

How long til your next scan? Always great reassurance, and i think the worrying is normal and just needs keeping in check as much as possible!!!

goingmadtrying · 15/01/2012 21:29

dreaming don't beat yourself up I take it your trying to get her back in a routine ready for babies :) I'm probably not the best person to ask cause I lay with my little boy at bed time and when he wakes up (bad mummy I know!!!)

thank you for your good thoughts I'm hoping the sharing makes things better :)

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 15/01/2012 21:41

If laying with her worked I'd do it. I used to be able to rock her to sleep in the nursing chair I've got, but it doesn't work anymore!! Well, does in the night sometimes but not at bedtime. And yes, the thought of this bedtime issue continuing with newborn twins too frightens the life out of me!!! I'd find being torn between 3 really stressful. Plus on the twins thread rednellie has mentioned stopping bf and illness- which I did (stop bf 10 weeks ago) so illness my fault partly too!!!

DreamingOfPeace · 15/01/2012 21:56

And I think sharing does make it a bit easier- knowing everyone else is worrying too, and you're not being abnormally paranoid... Helps me! At 26 weeks, I'm slightly calmer, but worrying about movements now- who's who, who moved last, are they both doing their usual thing... I think the worry will carry on til the end!

goingmadtrying · 16/01/2012 06:49

When did you first feel them move??? I had a bleed last night only when wiping after the toilet but much bigger and dark red than before and a few small clots :( nothing since but I'm going to ring the mw this morning to check,

please don't blame yourself re the sleeping and health problems it really isn't your fault... Maybe take a break from it for a week, and start again she maybe really stressed about it, and that's what causing the problem now, but I am no expert?? She will settle again I'm sure, have you tried sitting in the room with her, I'm sure you have but just a thought! Your doing a great job so don't beat yourself up :)

harrygracejessica · 16/01/2012 07:23

With the girls the only problems I had was gestational diabetes but had them before medication was needed, spd and a scan at 28 weeks showed one had stopped growing but by the 30 week scan she had grown a bit again. They were 3lb 15 and 4lb4 at 33+3.

The boys I had spd, gestational diabetes and needed insulin etc, one twin had excess fluid and that twin was born and needed recuss at birth and a stint in scbu on cpap as he was struggling with his breathing. They were 6lb 3 and 6lb 9 at birth.

Both times I went to hospital with lack of movement from twin 2, the girls was how they were laying and the boys because of the excess fluid I couldn't feel him.

And with the boys I was admitted at 28 weeks with tightenings and ambulanced to a hospital with neonatal intensive care unit as they thought they were arriving then.

I was bedridden at 30 weeks with the boys too due to spd - I managed to still look after the other 3 while like it - fab children I have!!!

I don't think you ever stop worrying with twins to be honest, your always trying to figure out what twin is moving etc

claireinmodena · 16/01/2012 07:26

Hi goingmad I also had a small bleed at around 10/11 weeks which scared the hell out of me. We were on holiday abroad and I couldnt even ring anyone...but luckily it stopped there. I think I read somewhere ut can be residue from implantation that gets dislodged as placenta grows iirc.

Do ring your mw though!

I felt mine move at around 19 weeks after having some chocs, they always move more after a meal, or stg sweet Smile

This was the earliest of all my pregnancies!
Hth, take care

DreamingOfPeace · 16/01/2012 13:58

Hi goingmad, I hope you've heard from the mw by now. I had spotting plus strong braxton hicks at 16 weeks and was scared I was miscarrying- scan that day, all fine.

I felt them move at 15 weeks- I was gobsmacked as never felt DD til 19 weeks, and then barely anything for a bit- but I had an anterior placenta then, and it's completely posterior now. So it'll depend where your placenta is etc when you feel them. Try not to worry, for every scare I've had, I've been told twins is totally different and don't compare it to your singleton pregnancy.

Hope you and your babies are ok, and you're not too stressed out.

DreamingOfPeace · 16/01/2012 13:59

Blimey harrygracejessica, not exactly straightforward pregnancies! You've done so well- and to look after such little ones from bedrest... amazing childrenindeed you must have!

goingmadtrying · 18/01/2012 06:07

Morning ladies :)

Im feeling 100% better, my cold is about gone and have much more energy :) im hoping this is just my hormones settling and nothing to do with the bleed i had on Sunday Hmm spoke to mw at hospital yesterday who spoke to consultant and is happy to see me next tues as planned, she is comfortable it has settled down again and nothing really since. i got my new phone yesterday its taking some getting used to, but is the start of my plan to reduce my bills :)

Oh, fabulous skitoo, I assume this means your cervical scan was good. Can i ask, these aren't standard care are they? Are you needing them from previous problems? Don't worry if you dont want to answer.

Always lovely to have more people on the twins thread Grin

Teds77 · 22/01/2012 12:42

skitoo just to say all went well so I'm going to brave the ante-natal threads - hope to see you there!

going sorry to hear about the scare and also hope to see you on the other thread too xx.

harrygracejessica · 22/01/2012 13:49

Oh I have the best kids and the best bloke in the world!! He would put breakfast upstairs and milk ready for them to wake up. We had lunch made and wrapped up too. My mum did the school run for the eldest when needed - he was at nursery so missed quite a lot. We had books, toys, tele and DVD player in my room and bottles of squash - we literally had the same upstairs as we did downstairs as I couldn't manage the stairs.

The kids were fantasticly brilliant - they still are as one of the twins has been ill and needed surgery which had complications so I was in hospital with him, been admitted for
bronciolitis before Christmas and has surgery planned for Tuesday so they have alot to deal with bless them.

galaxymummy · 22/01/2012 16:09

Hello ladies!!

I'm joining this thread a little late in the day but I don't get on MN much these days.

I had my MCDA girls in July 2011 - they've just turned 6 months old. Very difficult pregnancy as they had TTTS but they arrived safe and sound and totally healthy at 35 weeks. Being a twin mummy is absolutely awesome - we are a special breed and deserve medals Grin

Hope you're all enjoying your miraculous little bumps!
