Hi All

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with identical twins :)

I am 6 weeks so still very early but 2 yolk sacs within one sac both with good heartbeats,

Obviously the worst thing to do but I have been googling twin pregnancies and the reading is not pretty. :( I'm now worried about vanishing twin, and also have read its not great they in the same sac, although the sonographer did say it was good they each had their own placenta???

I would be really grateful to hear any positive stories you may have, because I have been left feeling there is no hope :(

Ooh, I can't wait for you to join the twins club

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 18:04

Oops, pressed post too soon...

That was you join twins club

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 18:11

Ooh, I can't wait for you to join the twins club 3 thread!!. I felt like that when i joined it at 13 weeks... Join soon, another good scan is good!!!

Definitely positive twin pregnancy here in that I'm still delighted and feeling lucky (if huge and a bit apprehensive about coping with an 18 month old all day and twins all night), both growing like baby elephants, little over 50th centile each, and 'normal' pg symptoms, nothing worrying bar twin one who does tend to do the hiding thing to scare me!! Oh, and I've not been sick for 2 weeks...all over?! 25 weeks tomorrow

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 18:12

Oh, and can I count pressing post twice too soon a pg symptom?! Duh

goingmadtrying · 04/01/2012 18:18

Argh thanks dreaming glad to hear things are going well for you, I don't think I will ever shake this anxious feeling, definitely didn't feel this way with my previous pg!

Posting too soon is defo a pg symptom, I saw it on google lol!!!

I'll join soon, just need to build up some courage!!

I got offered a bargain today, was looking to buy a second hand pushchair cause the one I want, is over £1100 new, but a friend of a friend is selling hers at £250, bargain :) A little earlier than I wanted to commit but saving over £100 on second hand ones on ebay, and could always sell it if things don't work out, my mum has told me to stop thinking negatively :( I wont be having it at home, storing it well out the way.

Twins are AMAZING. Love shopping for them (b/g). Their buggy is the little nipper 360 and it is the best buggy i have ever had (and ive had a few). Have a look at my scan pics with the twins (on my other name) here

goingmadtrying · 04/01/2012 18:26

Thanks slutty. Your pics are amazing, and your children look so happy :) Im looking at the icandy pear, looks and feels like a single pushchair. How old are your twins now??

OP posts:
Sluttybuttons · 04/01/2012 18:30

They are 17 months (and a day). Life is never dull or quiet. They really are fantastic. I had them in the same cot (didnt bother with moses baskets for them) from the day they were born and i think that has a lot to do with how happy and content they are. They are fantastic sleepers too. Not all twins like sharing but mine did and the only reason i split them up was their cot was too small for them both. They do have to be able to touch each other through the bars though :)

goingmadtrying · 04/01/2012 18:41

How sweet :) I've been thinking that to, re one cot and no moses baskets, we already have 2 ds, who are 7 & 3 and take up a fair bit of room :)

I'm excited but can't help this anxious nervous feeling :(

Just take everyday as it comes. I was most worried about them being born early, which they were. But they were 5lbs each (4 weeks early) and buy the time they were about a year they were hitting their milestones. The 1 thing that helped me get through it was a woman on you tube who was a few months ahead of me and i watched all her vid (will link at the end). Even now we are FB friends and i like seeing what i have in store in the coming months lol. She is amazing and bf both her girls and even donated enough to feed another 5 (i think) babies.

her channel is here

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 04/01/2012 19:55

goingmad, I can't shake the nerves, and the too-good-to-be-true (so something will go wrong) feeling. I bid on a triple buggy on eBay at 20 weeks and frightened the life out of myself that I'd jinx it! I thought the same as you though- its not going to be too hard to sell on, and in sensible moments I know it really wont make any difference how early you buy things. What is a much more scary purchase for us happens on Saturday- trading in my mini for a people carrier... Argh!!!

So lovely to see the pics of twins. One of the reasons I go on the TAMBA website Wink

claireinmodena · 04/01/2012 22:40

Hello goingmad,

I am also from the twin antenatal club and 33 weeks on.

Like you I have 2 older dcs, 10&7 and was really freaked out to find iut they were twins, 4 kids seems like a lot, but now I'm thrilled and cant wait to meet them.

I aldo had somd bleeding at 10 weeks and was on holidat abroad so couldnt be checked out but luckily it stopped after a say and the babies are growing well.

I have slso started shoping earlier than in other pregnancies as I was afraid I'd be too tired to do it later on and just as well, because I was put on bedrest from 27 weeks. I cannot even contemplate any ither outcome thsn bringing 2 babies home, and yet I am always very anxious at scans....

I sm glad things are going well with you and look forward to seeing you on the twins thread!

Sluttybuttons · 05/01/2012 01:02

Oh you should also prepare for walking out with 2 babies half waiting on a nurse to come up to you and say "you cant take 2 babies home" lol. I kept looking behind me waiting on it. Just couldnt believe i was actually allowed to leave with TWO BABIES lol. Even now i look at them sleeping and think wow 2 babies how lucky am i. Their big sister also seems to think that anybody thats pregnant is having 2. Sorry ill shut up now but it really is amazing :)

goingmadtrying · 05/01/2012 07:50

dream I've not long traded my family size car in for a ka!!!! Which will now need to be changed lol luckily my dh has a 7 seater already and we may just run with one car when I'm on mat leave want to make sure I can take a year off :)

claire thank you for your best wishes it's nice to hear from someone with 4, bet that's hard with bedrest on the other 2, I've already started to worry about those things! When are you due?

slutty please don't stop sharing your joy, it's lovely to hear you positivity and excitement, lol at thinking you werernt going to be able to leave with2 those are the things that I think will be the strangest!!

I've just had a phone call from the hospital and they have booked
me a scan next Tuesday, I'll be 10+3, I asked about the consultant appointment and she advise the consultant willdo the scan and take things from there, that the scan is most important. They would have been able to see i've had a scan this week at epu wouldn't they?? Is this normal that the consultant does the scan, and will it be to see what type they are?. Will I then have the downs scan later or can they do this at 10w??? I'm very excited cause it seems to be moving along :)

bigboobsatlast · 05/01/2012 10:28

Hi goingmad. I was told at a similar stage that the consultant would want to do an early scan to determine the type of twins - as the longer this is left the harder it is to tell the type - and the type is important to determine the care/monitoring you recieve. So in my experience I would say that this is why you have another scan so soon with the consultant. You will get to see your babies again in just a few days - lucky you!

goingmadtrying · 05/01/2012 11:33

Do feel very lucky that I'll get to see them again, just didn't want to waste their time or for them to tell me it's been arranged to early, also excited as my dh hasn't seen them so he'll get to this time :)

thanks bigboobs

Lucky you goingmad!! I have never had a consultant scan me- a sonographer said 'probably DCDA' at 12 weeks- my first scan- and that was.it I'm in. a trust with red alert for maternity services though, so good they're not doing like here. They can't even do the nuchal fold scan here!!! You'll just get an extra scan if need be :-)

goingmadtrying · 05/01/2012 20:16

Ladies I have loaded the pics from my scan on Tuesday :)

Thanks dreaming I wonder if its because I found out earlier that I was expecting twins, Or that the woman was wrong and actually it will be a sonographer Hmm

OP posts:
DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 05/01/2012 22:16

oh wow, check out their arms and legs!!! They're huge in comparison to your first scan! I think it's because they're harder to tell- I can't see a membrane looking at a small pic on here!!! Mine was more obvious by a long way! I reckon it'll be a consultant Smile

And that is a fib- a consultant whizzed a scanner on on that Sunday night when one of mine hadnt moved for 3 days and 3 nights, but for less than 2 min to check both hb's etc.

goingmadtrying · 05/01/2012 22:20

The sonographer on Tuesday did point out what she thought could be a membrane, so thinking now its more likely they in their own sac. I know cant believe how big they have got :)

You all ready for your pimp ride this weekend ;)

Oh I'll miss my mini and look like such a wide boy/drug dealer.... Still, its practical! If as high a mileage as my mini and only one year younger. Twins is an expensive business!! Pimp my ride!!

Separate sacs might mean a slightly more relaxing pregnancy though, or did she mean they're mcda not mcma rather than DCDA not mcda if that makes sense???

goingmadtrying · 05/01/2012 23:07

I still haven't got grips with the whole MCDA/DCDA thing lol!!!! She was non committal tbh, just said she thought there may be a membrane Hmm. Hoping I get more answers on Tuesday :)

My sister had her twins today. 36weeks by csection. Both boy and girl are healthy and were good weights, 5lbs 12oz and 6lbs 9oz. Even with her Thyroid health issues she had no problems throughout the pregnancy.

All the best to you x
