Hi All

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with identical twins :)

I am 6 weeks so still very early but 2 yolk sacs within one sac both with good heartbeats,

Obviously the worst thing to do but I have been googling twin pregnancies and the reading is not pretty. :( I'm now worried about vanishing twin, and also have read its not great they in the same sac, although the sonographer did say it was good they each had their own placenta???

I would be really grateful to hear any positive stories you may have, because I have been left feeling there is no hope :(

Many congrats and good luck with it allgoingmad!! I have non-identical twins (now 6) and can remember the shock and worry of those first few weeks after being told. I was really lucky..no morning sickness or any pregnancy related problems at all, Blush sorry to those who suffer morning sickness, even my gp was surprised that I never had it. I sailed through pregnancy and apart from the odd looks when I got big and almost getting stuck in a burger king fixed seat (should have thought twice at 34 weeks with twins Grin) it was no different than my other pregnancies. Had to have an epidural for the birth as twin 2 was breech but that went well too and vag delivery. Hope things go as well for you!

goingmadtrying · 18/12/2011 00:33

Thanks Velcro lol at burger king story!!!! Yes I hope so to that I have it as easy although completely shattered and fed up of feeling sick although no actual morning sickness!!!

Yippee Xmas Grin I'm 7 weeks today and the bleeding has disappeared in the last couple of days so that's got to be good. Hope my two little babies are growing and developing well. I'm so excited :)

Fantastic! I love making it to the next week! Don't be too optimistic about the midwife's knowledge- shaky I've found. Plus I know someone with boy/girl twins (so100% sure they're not identical!) who was asked by two midwives on the ward if they were ID after the birth!!! Hmm Your consultant will be the one who knows, but mw should at least get you referred off. mine started going through my notes at my booking in appt, looked at my scan sheet, said, ooh, so 19th April EDD, to which I replied yes, but we will expect them earlier, and she said 'Them?! Twins?!' And nearly leapt off her seat, finished the appointment and announced I wouldn't see a mw again unless requested to book in by the consultant!!! Not all areas have twin pg entirely consultant led though.

Worried about mine today, ones been ominously quiet for a few days.

cheekycurls · 18/12/2011 17:50

goingmadtrying i've not been on here much lately, you've been on some threads as me and I just wanna say a big massive huge congratulations on ur pregnancy and TWINS!! omg u must be soooooo happy as am I for u Xmas Grin

goingmadtrying · 18/12/2011 19:36

Oh dream hope everythings ok, please get checked out if your worried, I don't know about you but it somehow makes them more special because there is 2!! I'm not expecting my midwife to do a great deal other than refer me and book my next scan in, I've got a letter to show her which clearly states "viable twin pregnancy":) lol. The epu advised I woul be referred to another unit which specialises in multiples, when should I expect to see them???

Thanks cheeky I'm very excited and nervous all at the same time Grin thank you for the best wishes!

Has anyone else looked at my scan pic, what do you thing????

dreamfeeder · 18/12/2011 19:50

Definitely goingmad, I feel very blessed. My first consultant appointment was 15 weeks. Have just been scanned and both little tikes are fine- one's just hiding [big relief emoticon!]

goingmadtrying · 18/12/2011 19:59

That's fantastic little monkey hiding, sorry on my phone so hard to go back, do you know what your having???! 15 weeks is so far away!!!!! Time won't fly cause I want it to :)

OP posts:
dreamfeeder · 18/12/2011 21:03

You may see your consultant earlier- I only found out I was having twins at 12 weeks, and they were happy with that membrane between them so maybe that's why? Though someone with dcda twins on the twins club 2 thread had hers at 20 weeks I think... I'm having two boys. If anything you'd be earlier for identical, and you'll be scanned every two weeks, from 20 certainly, while I'm scanned every 4 til 28, then every two. unless you get paranoid and have Sunday evening scans

So lovely to be having twins!

Come and post on the twins club 2 (though we're nearly on 3!). Lots of reassurance and advice.

:( I had a red bleed yesterday and today only when wiping but more than spotting do you think I should ring the epu?? I'm worried something going wrong :(

OP posts:
dreamfeeder · 19/12/2011 12:09

I had that at 5 weeks with my dd and more at 22 weeks. No problem. I think many, many people bleed in their pg and go on to have healthy children, but I'd ring for reassurance if i were you. In my first pg I didn't, took the 'well, there's nothing they can do' at both stages, but this time I'm much more anxious- hence had scan at 14 weeks for severe cramping and pain, 16 weeks for spotting and very strong braxton hicks, last night for no foetal movement on the left (only scans not dopplers as its twins) but I totally get the fear factor now!!!

I hope nothing goes wrong. They both had good hb days ago, cheer yourself up with that for now, that was a great sign. Xx

mrsshears · 20/12/2011 06:38

Hi going hope everything has settled down and all is ok xx

goingmadtrying · 20/12/2011 08:12

Morning mrss :)

still experiencing bleeding but only when going toilet for a number 2 (sorry tmi)! Which is only once a day, rang epu and spoke to nurse I saw last week and she said that they had discharged me cause I was ok, which must be a good thing as no concerns but I could get gp to re-refer and they would see me again but not until after Xmas, she advised that they may need to check my cervix a little later on due to smear test advice, but she didn't think it was anything to worry about. She advised if bleeding got worse or I was concerned I could go to a&e and they would send me to the ward for a scan. I'm seeing my midwife on Thursday so will speak to her. My symptoms are really strong at the minute, extreme tiredness, extreme nauseau in the evening and tummy bloated, think things have moved up cause tummy a bit harder at the bottom. Can't wait for mynext scan to check what's going on! Don't know whether to book a private one before 12 weeks??

Hope your doing ok to :)

OP posts:
mrsshears · 20/12/2011 13:18

Oh thats good,if the bleeding is only then you would think it must be connected to going for a no2 rather than anything sinister,Strong symptoms are great too (in the nicest possible way Smile)
It seems an eternity until the 12wk scan doesnt it,i don't know much about private scans,i have seen others on here have had them.
I'm ok thanks,i had a hospital apt today due to getting a couple of ticks on the family history bit at booking in.Me and dd2 heard the heartbeat for the first time which was lovely, the consultant surprised me too by saying she would be happy to do an induction at 39 weeks provided the baby is right down iyswim due to my girls being big babies and me only being 5ft 3!!

dreamfeeder · 20/12/2011 13:36

thats is good- could the bleeding be coming from the other end instead of being anything to do with your cervix/uterus? I am having problems with that- losing a lot of blood every time I go for a no.2, but it's definitely not a vaginal bleed for me.

A bit of nausea is reassuring- now, how long before you can expect it to go again?! Hope it stays as that and you don't start throwing up. I'm still waiting to stop throwing up!!!!!

goingmadtrying · 03/01/2012 21:04

Well ladies i'm 9+2 today :)

Have been for another early scan due to still experiencing some bleeding, however everything seems fine and babies are growing well. Twin 1 was even wriggling around today, twin 2 was very still however saw hb and they didn't seem worried. Both are growing well, when went at 6w they were 2.8mm today they are 25mm with little arms and legs!!!!.

It did appear today that they may be in 2 sacs now, the sonographer pointed out what she thought may be a membrane however could not confirm it 100%, so will have to wait for 12 week scan Hmm. I'm a little disappointed that they will probably not be identical, however I know that its less risky in 2 sacs, she also couldn't confirm about placenta's.

Its got to be good though that they growing and developing and both around the same time, dates matched up too!, they said I may just be one that experiences bleeding.

Hope your all ok :)

ahhh goingmadtrying, that's excellent news. :D so pleased for you.

Were they able to do the scan through the tummy? sorry, not meaning to be nosey, but I'm due for a scan and am the same timings as you 9+2 (I think( :)

am due for a scan this week - just don't want another internal...Confused

I hope the bleeding settles down. x

goingmadtrying · 03/01/2012 21:44

Yes came up quickly as well and I am overweight! The pics aren't as clear in my opinion, but I could see everything really clearly on the screen.

They didn't press really low down either was in between belly button and bikini line :

Good luck for your scan hope everything goes well x

PoppyS34 · 03/01/2012 21:47

Oh, phew. That's good. Can't wait now, fingers crossed all ok.

Thanks goingmad - that's put my mind at ease, wishing you and your bumps very well and an uneventful journey to the 12wks scan :o

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 03/01/2012 22:26

Oh, lovely to see them.again! If they're in 2 separate sacs they can still be identical, if they're the same sex of course. One third of all ID twins were DCDA in utero was the statistic I saw, although that's only between 10-30% of DCDA twins, depending whose statistics you believe! As mine are both boys I keep thinking they're id, but Dh is desperate for them not be be, for finding it easier to be their own individual selves not 'the twins'. Advantages either way! I'm finding it worrying enough with DCDA!! Smile I'm so pleased to hear they're both doing well, and at 24+5 mine aren't similarly active- twin two is much more wriggly! X

harrygracejessica · 03/01/2012 22:55

Congratulations. I have 2 sets of twins, both sets were in seperate sacs and placentas so I got both sets tested and I have identical girls and non identical boys :-) only way to find out for suresos zygosity testing.
