Hi All

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant with identical twins :)

I am 6 weeks so still very early but 2 yolk sacs within one sac both with good heartbeats,

Obviously the worst thing to do but I have been googling twin pregnancies and the reading is not pretty. :( I'm now worried about vanishing twin, and also have read its not great they in the same sac, although the sonographer did say it was good they each had their own placenta???

I would be really grateful to hear any positive stories you may have, because I have been left feeling there is no hope :(

Thank you goingmadtrying and all the best to you and your double bundles of joy x

bigboobsatlast · 08/01/2012 09:50

Hi goingmad. A Membrance could still mean either so you will have to wait till Tuesday! makde sure you let us know. Mine have a membrane between them which was clear early on (not so now at 20 wks) but they are in the same sac - so MCDA (identical).
Very exciting! hope you are feeling well

goingmadtrying · 08/01/2012 09:56

How are your niece and nephew settling shonno? Hopefully your sister is having an easy time with them :)

Thanks bigboobs I'm worried that they won't be able to see for sure on Tuesday, but are the consultants a bit more experienced than sonographers when looking for this type of thing? I will definately let you all know, I'm really struggling to keep things a secret at work, one of my colleagues was telling me last night she going to be a grandma again, and her son is due in August, I so wanted to say that's me aswell!!!

I had my appraisal on Friday and my manager told me she is really pleased with my last year, and got the pay rise I was hoping for, nearly £100 a month extra!!! All will come in handy for MLA :) Will tell work a week on Monday when I'll be 11+1.

Have a lovely sunday :)

Sorry been manic here as usual
lol.

Yes it's hectic with 2 sets of twins. I've got 5 children and the eldest is 4 so very busy and noisy :-)

it's worth joining Tamba aswell, great to ask questions on as we have all been there with some horrible pregnancies. Mine weren't smooth pregnancies and both times I've had prem labour and waters popped early.

DreamingOfAWhiteChristmas · 08/01/2012 14:05

I think the consultant will be able to tell goingmad. They'll be very experienced to be at consultant level, whereas a sonographer could be relatively newly qualified iykwim.

Yes, mcma would be same amniotic sac, same chorionic sac, mcda would be same chorionic sacs, seperate amniotic sacs, dcda is separate amnions and chorions.... unless I'm confused! I did get a book on twin pg, should consult...

Well done with the pay rise!

harrygracejessica, did you have an early labour with your singleton baby? I have this notion I will go on forever and am at no risk of prem labour (!! delusional!?) as I went to 40+2 with DD, waters broke and still never went into labour, so can't imagine it actually happening (and a bit in denial about the possibility). Did you have any indication? I seem to having a fairly smooth pregnancy- far harder and more worrying than my singleton one with the aches and pains and cramps etc so much earlier, but nothing the doctors would call complicated! So maybe totally different to you and I will go on forever!!

goingmadtrying · 10/01/2012 07:16

Well today is the day I hopefully find out what type of twins I'm having, very nervous even though I only saw them a week ago, had some horrible tummy ache and back ache yesterday, hoping it's just strectching pains, things definately moving up .

I'll come back on later and let you know how I get on :)

I wonder whether I'll deliver early??? With ds1 waters started to leak very early but went to 37 weeks waters popped went into labour and delivered within 4.5 hours, with ds2 started to have back ache in the night woke up with strong contractions, they broke my waters and I delivered from start to finish in about 4 hours???? Will be interested to see what other people say :)

bigboobsatlast · 10/01/2012 09:13

good luck for today goingmad Smile

goingmadtrying · 10/01/2012 11:28

Ok..........
The consultant was lovely and although she was very honest it didn't come across negative. She advised that at this stage they are MCDA twins :)

she explained all of the risks and advised i would be monitored every 2 weeks and they will be keeping an eye out for ttsHmm

I've still got a long road to go and feel quite sad that things may go wrong, but understand I can't change the outcome but will do all I can to stay healthy,

The babies have grown again in a week from 25mm to 33/34mm although she did say that the measurements were not 100% accurate as fetus still quite curled up, so probably a bit further ahead, the measurements are in line with my dates and both were wriggling around and saw the heartbeats, they are on top of each other, one was hiding and she couldn't get them both on the same pic

all sounds good so far :)

Hi going I kept meaning to post to guess MCDA as your early scan pictures were quite a bit different to my early scan - I'm DCDA (hopefully, still, fingers crossed...)

I'm still feeling a little overwhelmed but glad to hear that you sound very positive. I think that's the best way to be.

I'm too nervous to join the antenatal twins club until after my 12 week scan but if all is well in a week or so, I'll hopefully see you on there x.

goingmadtrying · 10/01/2012 14:35

Hi teds thank you, how many weeks are you? I'm 10+2 I too have not yet joined the ante natal thread just a bit anxious about it all, I think know I won't stop worrying until their here :)

OP posts:
Teds77 · 10/01/2012 14:51

I'm 11 weeks today so we are almost twins (or would that be quads? Wink)

You're right - I think I'll worry until they're here and then there will probably be a whole host of other worry after that!

goingmadtrying · 10/01/2012 15:03

That's really lovely, we can be twin buddys:)

what did your first scan look like? I was so shocked when I found out, was by myself, have you told work yet??

OP posts:
DreamingOfPeace · 10/01/2012 15:41

oooh, lovely goingmad, and congrats teds77 too!!!

looking forward to seeing you both on the twins antenatal thread- 2 lots of twins born in the last week, exciting times over there Grin

I also won't stop worrying til they're here... 25+5 today

Teds77 · 10/01/2012 15:47

I won't tell work until I know all is okay. Ours are the result of ivf but it was still a shock to see two of them!!

My scan looks more like these - though possibly mine are even further apart and it was very difficult to get a picture of both of them together.

Wow so they very special teds huge congrats fingers crossed we both have easy journeys :)

bigboobsatlast · 10/01/2012 19:17

Great news that everything is how it should be goingmad. Mine our mcda too (21 wks) and although all the monitoring is a bit scary it means you get to see your babies every two weeks. I also se my midwife on the weeks inbetween (thats what the NICE guidelines recommend), so you are checked every week which goes some way to reassure you. So identical babies for you! Fab!

Congratulations to you as well teds. Hope to see yon both on the twins thread soon.

DreamingOfPeace · 10/01/2012 19:50

Oooh, goingmad and teds, I really think you should join the twins thread now so I won't accidentally miss any of your news!!! Mine are DCDA teds, I'll try n put my 12 week scan pic back on.

goingmadtrying · 10/01/2012 20:51

Argh thank you bigboobs it's really nice to hear your so far along and everything is going well that's really boosted me!

dreaming thank you just feeling a little nervous still but may dip my toe in lol :), how's your dd doin with her bedtime rountine??

OP posts:
Teds77 · 10/01/2012 22:53

skitoo so lovely to hear from you! I do hope that all is well with you and Bert and Ernie? I feel a bit nervous asking - I think ivf makes us worriers xxx.

Aww going they definitely feel very special to me but I think all our little beans are special, however they end up coming into being.

Waves to bigboobs and dreaming... sounds like the twins thread is a nice place to hang out but think I have to cross the 12 week scan hurdle first...

DreamingOfPeace · 11/01/2012 08:09

Argh, don't think about the bedtime routine!!!! 9pm last night, improvement but Dh put her down and he's working tonight so I'm stuck with the Great Bedtime Battle by myself... I'm losing the plot over it... quempin on the twins antenatal thread has just had her MCDA twin boys healthily by planned CS (twin 1 breech) at 36 weeks. Will hope for a healthy pg like that for you.

And that is of course fine guys, after all I didn't join til after the 12 week scan (mainly as that's when i found out!) But I would have been too worried before then too. im just impatient Smile

So I'm on here instead of having left to go to work. (For one of my last 5 days, hurrah) as my dad aka childcare is delayed getting here- by an hour, so im going to be seriously late...

skitoo · 11/01/2012 15:51

Hi Teds and everyone else Smile.

I'm doing pretty good at the moment but like you and probably all the rest of the lovely ladies, am still so nervous. I'm 22+2 now so Bert & Ernie are progressing well Grin.

I've also come down the ivf route (Teds and I held hands on an ivf thread) and my twins are also DCDA. Because of the process it shouldn't really have been so much of a shock but my treatment didn't go very well and we really didn't expect it. I also had an MMC last year which has made me even more scaredy pants at getting over each of the hurdles of a successful pregnancy and believing its real. I have my 2nd cervical scan at the hospital tomorrow and hope to get a peek at B&E, so fingers crossed that it'll be all good, I can relax a bit more and might brave it over to the twins club thread >eek!!

Teds, you changed clinics didn't you, over to The Lister? I'm guessing you had a good experience there? How have you been, have you been well?

Will have a read through the thread to catch up with everyone else. xx
