Arse licker!!!!! Glad you got your scan through Jems!!! They get new stock of cots all the time, don't worry!! You have a little time to get the one you really want!

Chickpea, that;s a great idea about watching Disc health. I'm sure it's possible to allow your children to be involved as much as you would like. I don't like the american 'everyone in' way of doing it, but DH/P and kids if they are a good age could benefit you all. I would love a home birth, but wouldn't be able.

SpringChicken · 22/01/2004 14:09

Only 4 weeks to go until scan - then 4 weeks after that going on holiday - by the time i get back i'll be 25 weeks and only have 13 weeks left at work - YIPPEEEEEEEEEE

Why wouldn't you be able to have a home birth Quacks?
I know it sounds silly but i'm actually quite looking forward to going into hospital to have the baby - i have never had to go to hospital before, no broken bones, no rush visits to A&E nothing - actually quite looking forward to being a patient in a wierd kinda way!

Is there a proper name for 20 weeks scan? Been trying to have a look on internet to see what can be seen at the scans but wasn't sure if it had a technical term.

littlerach · 22/01/2004 14:55

Glad you have your date through, think it's called an anamoly scan.
My personal experience of being in hospital after dd was not that good ( although the actual labour care was excellent) as you are knackered, also have new baby, not many have nurseries or extra staff to look after your baby!! I was in a week, and found it hard. But hopefully this was just my experience, and am sure there are others who enjoyed it. In fact, the one which I am hoping to have this one in has a great rep for post natal care, they actually bring you your meals!!!
DD has come down with chicken pox today - just my luck!!! She has a party tomorrow - not now!!!
Jem, will you find out the sex?

Quackers · 22/01/2004 16:32

Just cos of DD's complications in delivery really and she was small for dates, so they expect this one to be too. I am happy with that though, as our hospital is good. I found being in the hospital where DD was born though a little unearving. DH could only visit for 2 hours per day and I was lonely. Once I had DD I asked for a side room and it was better cos I got some privacy and was obviously with my DD. Couldn't wait to get home! They told be I had to stay 10 days at first as they thought DD had an infection. Fortunately it turned out ok and I could go home after about 3 days. The care varied so much between shifts of staff!
Littlerach, sorry re chicken pox. Hope all is well again soon!

SpringChicken · 22/01/2004 17:10

Only 2 hours a day Quacks - at our hospital DP/DH's are alowed to stay for as long as they want between 9.00am and 9p.m!
I'm hoping to not have to stay any longer than a day though so that's prob why i am looking forward to it!

No, we wont find out the sex littlerach - we both want it to be a surprise and always find the first thing people ask is "What did you have", seems a bit of a dissapointment if everybody already knows.
I am doing my own head in at the minute - i am a very nosey person at the best of times and hate not knowing things - i think i will have drove myself doolally by the time this little one arrives wondering what it is! Determined not to find out though - also helps that my hospital wont tell you the sex even if you ask so if we wanted to know we would have to go private which we can't really afford!

SpringChicken · 23/01/2004 10:03

Why do i always feel like the person constantly posting on this thread?

DP and I having yet another one of our baby conversations last night - and have come up with some new names. We have said for a long long time, even before i was pregnant, that we loved Finley for a boy and we still do, we also like Dylan. I have absolutely fallen in love with the name Evie for a girl, i think it's lovely and goes nicely with DP's surname

Have you noticed how many famous people are pregnant at the mo - Gwynie, Courtney Cox-Arquette, Sophie ellis-Bexter, Ulrika, Jessica Simpson, Melanie Sykes, there are just loads - September/October must've been a good time for baby making

Quackers · 23/01/2004 10:11

Hey, I'm here loads!! !!!!
I didn't know Mel Sykes was pg!!!! Wow! When I had DD there were loads then too! CZJ, Madonna, Zoe Ball etc...

I haven't even begun to think of names yet!!! Will look forward to sitting in the garden chilling and reading name books!!

SpringChicken · 23/01/2004 10:17

Yep, she announced it live on Des and Mel a few days ago! Didn't see it myself but apparently she didn't even give the intro music time it stop before blurting it out! Bless I still remember that feeling!

DP and I have thought of loads of names - all of which i like but there are only 2 that i really love (Finley & Evie) - all the others are nice but i don't like tham anywhere near as much! Luckily we are quite good at agreeing on names - there are only a few that have been blown out of the water so far.
As DP's dad was from Northern Ireland we both quite like the idea of an irish name so we bought a celtic name book - What a mistake, i can't even pronounce half of the bloody names

littlerach · 23/01/2004 10:44

Evie is a lovely name.
I think Sara Cox is pregnant too.
DD ahs pox all over her tummy, poor thing. But she is fine in herself and still wants to go to my mums for the weekend!
The worst thing is she ate roast chicken for the first time yesterday(v. fussy!) and is now worried that this has caused the chicken pox!!!

madgirl · 23/01/2004 10:47

ah litterach, that's so lovely about dd and roast chicken! my ds got it so badly when he was 1.5 years and still has little scars on his back from it. hope dd is better soon.

SpringChicken · 23/01/2004 10:55

Yeah she is Littlerach - knew i'd missed someone!

Bless your DD - it must be soooo horrible when they are young - i can still remember how itchy it was when i had them years ago - Don't think she'll be eating chicken again for a while will she

littlerach · 23/01/2004 11:21

Actually she asked to have it earlier - none in the house!!
Does chicken pox get itchier? I ask as she hardly seems to scratch unless reminded that the spots are there. Although the ones in her hair seem to bother her more.
Luckily I get to go to work this afternoon, as DDDDDH has agreed to do a half day - otherwise would go stir crazy being in all day. We are lucky that he does flexi hours.

Quackers · 23/01/2004 11:34

Poor DD!!! Bless her re chicken!!! My DD had it too about 1.5 yrs. She's still scarred aswell. I did feel sorry for her, they do itch so much!! I love that bit about being a MUM!! Being there to look after her when she's sick and wanting to cuddle all the time!!
Jems, LOVE the choice of names BTW!!! KWYM about Irish names, love them but can't spell them! I have 2 Irish families near us and sending Xmas cards is a nightmare!! I just put to * and family!!
I mentioned on another thread, that I went to a kid's play centre yesterday and the woman in the ticket booth was fagging one after the other. She stood up and was about 7 months!! I had to be restrained!!!! I was furious! How do these people get babies an so many others more deserving can't have them!!!!!!!
Sorry, hit a nerve!

SpringChicken · 23/01/2004 11:38

Know what you mean quacks - each to their own and if people choose to smoke in pregnancy but it just amazes me how some people who smoke all the way through their pregnancy have perfectly healthy babies yet other mums who stick to all the "rules" go on to have unhealthy babies!

Just amazes me the way mother nature works sometimes!

Quackers · 23/01/2004 11:54

It's just selfish and not even ignorant Jems.
I know a woman who smoked and drank all through pgcy. Both her sons had that condition where they are not sure if it's a boy or a girl's genitalia. One of them now has leukimia (SP?)too. Both have to have operations to make them into boys properly but one of them had genitals that were more like girls but she had brought him up a boy for 2 years so they are going to try for her. It's desperately sad.

SpringChicken · 23/01/2004 12:19

Oh dear - that sounds awful Quacks! My SIl smoked all the way through her pregnancy with my nephew - i couldn't even be in the same room as her - made me want to punch her but s'pose that's cos she was carrying my nephew!

Most annoyingly, she has stopped smoking now and tells everyone how much of a disgusting habit it is but couldn't stop at a time when i would've thought was best!

I used to smoke and know how hard it can be giving up - i gave up when my DP's dad died of lung cancer purely because i couldn't put my DP through seeing me do the same damage to myself as his beloved dad did - it would've completely ruined our relationship if i hadn't given up.

Quackers · 26/01/2004 09:59

Hi Jems, just read this. That's really tough and I do appreciate how hard it is to give up. Giving up alcohol is fairly tough too but we do it!
How is everyone?? I'm getting bigger, it feels fab!!! Finally have the bump I've wanted for over a year now! We used my doppler on Saturday and found the heartbeat straight away - it was great! Although don't know what I'd have done if it wasn't there!! I let myself relax a bit too and bought some little bits to top up our nursery stuff. I was so nice, made mt day!

SpringChicken · 26/01/2004 10:02

Morning All,

Just wanted to ask a quick question - Over the weekend i had some pains "down below" - they weren't like period pains, they were like really strong ache's actually shooting up through my bits!
Gos this sounds awful! It wasn't like a worrying pain, i haven't had any bleeding and nothing else feels unusual - each pain didn't last very long and just sort of made me stop what i was doing and wait for it to pass. I didn't get many, many 4-5 over the weekend.

What are these pains? Could they be braxton hicks? With this being my first pregnancy i am completely clueless - not overly worried about the pains, just wondered what they could be!

Ta
Spring Chick (The silly question asker )

SpringChicken · 26/01/2004 10:08

Morning Quack-meister - posts crossed!

Glad you found the heartbeat straight away - it's such a lovely sound to hear - as DP wasn't with me when i heard the heartbeat i made him watch a pregnanct programme yesterday where a midwife was listening to the heartbeat so he knew what it sounded like.

I was looking through my bag of bits yesterday too - we've got quite alot already!
3 pack of short sleeve baby grows - newborn (up to 10lb)
3 pack of long sleeve baby grows - up to 11lb
3 pack of s/sleeve baby grows - 0-3 months.
pack of tiny bibs that i found in next on Saturday and just had to buy!
Pack of 3 Muslin square's
Little white hat - MIL bought
Little white socks - MIL bought (She's buys a little pressie after each scan and midwife visit)
Oooooooh it so exciting - also found a cot i love and that was in stock on Saturday - and as an extra brucie bonus it was in the sale

Quackers · 26/01/2004 10:14

Jems you practical Mum to be you!!! Muslin squares!!!! I couldn't live without them!!!Great for puky moments!!!
Re pains - I had this about a month ago. I would take my breath away and shoot up as you describe. I was a bit worried, but Doc assured me it was stretching etc... Hope you don't worry too much. It's easy to say I know but there's all sorts going on down there I suppose and when it's not the 'norm' we panick. See your Doc if want to get checked out though. Mears might be on line and be able to explain better than me, or have other ideas!

SpringChicken · 26/01/2004 10:25

I was quite pleased with myself when i realised just how organised i had been!

We've also got all of our nursery bits - i.e. bedding, lampshade, curtains etc etc - Just got the big bits to buy now!

I'm not worried about the pains - i did put it down to stretching and things just getting ready !

I can't believe i finally got DP to sit and watch 2 birthing programmes yesterday (He usually scruntches his face up, goes pale and wanders of to do something else)! They had to be to 2 easiest births i have ever seen on discovery health - TYPICAL! He now says that any woman who moans infront of him about childbirth is going to be in for it How clueless men can be

Quackers · 26/01/2004 10:30

He'll know about it Jems!! They never show really bad ones do they on there!!!
BTW, Braxton Hicks contractions are quite noticable and not painful. You'll feel all your womb tighten like a rock, it's quite funny!! In labour, it does the same thing but with pain!
This is when the breating helps. I never thought it would but DH kept telling me to breath! I kept holding back from the pain, but as I tried to work with the contractions, breathing helped amazingly!Oh the joys!

littlerach · 26/01/2004 10:38

I always found bh to be like someone was pulling a belt round my bump!!!
How are you all, anyway?
We had a relaxing weekend, as DD went to mum's, along with the chicken pox!!! She is ever so spotty but not too grumpy!
We are trying to decide where the baby will sleep, as we are in 3 storey house, so one bedroom is downstairs to the other two. DD wants it to sleep in her room, and there is space, so we are considering this. But we will probably move within a year, so that will only be for a while.
Grandma ordered a travel cot for us, she is so excited - lives opposite end of the country, so only sees us about 4 times a year. Other than that, we are hoping to re-use lots of DD's things!!!

Helsbels · 26/01/2004 10:45

We've just got over chicken pox littlerach - I found it got worse before it got better so beware! Also, ds still suffering.
What I want is some advice from second time mums. Is it normal to not be as confident? I do not feel as confident about the baby's health or sex or anything. With ds1 I had very positive feelings. I know we have all been ill and perhaps it is just that with your first it is the be all and end all where as now I have ds to think about too. I don't know - I'm just not as excited as I should be even though I am looking forward to it. What are these doppler things again - I am seeing the mw on Weds so will hear the heartbeat then if all is okay. Also, when should you feel movements on the second pg? Sorry, just having a bit of a panic!!

Quackers · 26/01/2004 10:57

I'm not as confident either Helsbels. Things just passed me by first time in blissful ignorance. I know more now I suppose, so you do worry. I suppose we will worry if it's 2nd or 10th. Glad you will hear the heartbeat soon, it will take away some of your concerns I'm sure! A doppler is the thing m/w uses to listen to heartbeat. I bought one because I was panicking too much after last years losses and wanted to know that if I had a panick I could listen. I use it once a week at most.
Littlerach, hope she's ok and spots aren't getting her down too much! My DD wnats baby in with her too, but we do have a room for it and it's right next to her so it will have to do her!
