dooscooby · 12/12/2011 17:10

Im away from the paint stripper-silly me, just had to throw myself into some other tidying etc. as i needed a day of feeling productive!

You never know, the sweep may work its magic over night or the next day blackkat...fingers crossed for you.

Hi limeflower - have a good peek around....theres not many of us around at the moment, i think i'm scaring people away with my prolific posting, i need to get a life!

Just saw a lady from my pg yoga class with her 3 week old. Asked her how it went, she said it was hell but that she was already ready to do it again. Not sure whether i feel reassured or shit scared by her honesty!

Well it is quiet in here this week - hope the top of the listers are doing well. Hope that sweep works for you blackkat and you are soon enjoying your snuggles.

I only have 8 days left til ML starts and am crazy with trying to get things done as well as all the social stuff that comes with this time of year. In retrospect it might have been easier to come back for a couple of weeks in Jan, but oh well just have to do the best I can in the time I have.

LAF i?m with you on wanting to just lie there and feel the baby move, it is so amazing how active they are at this stage although some behaviour like the tap dancing on my bladder does get a stern talking to :o YAY for the MATB1

Waves to knitter, limeflower and any other freak out roomers lurking about, hope you come and join us here real soon

Well for a bit of me me me! I had my private 4D scan on Saturday which was incredible ? really spooked me with all the detail you can see. They did a growth scan at the same time and it looks like I?m growing a big one in there. Her stomach measurement was off the scale, sonographer said to tell MW and I was quite worried but slightly comforted when Dr Google told me it could be either growth spurt or indicator of diabetes (I?ve had the test a couple of weeks ago and it was normal).

Luckily I had my consultant appointment yesterday and also saw the midwife, so they are going to get another scan done on their equipment so they can compare better to other scans (hopefully this week) and see if they need to do any more tests, they didn?t seem overly worried which was good. I was a big baby (9lb9) so I guess it could just be genetics. Waiting for my anaesthetic appointment now to talk about my options, because of the high dose of fragmin I?m on they have said they would want at least 24 hours between an injection and any anaesthetic so it looks like I?ll be induced at 40 wks if not sooner as they want to manage the timing.

Of course because I was all a bit flustered about the scan I forgot to get any of my scripts redone so lots of calling around for me today to sort it all out and then back to hospital as can't get them filled anywhere else

Hope all the new mummies and babies are doing well, nice to see you popping back in

LadyMaybe · 13/12/2011 10:38

Hellooo!

Gosh. This feels a bit odd. Formerly LadyBee here, finally making it back on to this thread after having to say good bye several times Sad. It's a bittersweet feeling I have to say looking down that (now so long) list and seeing the slots where I 'should' have been but am thrilled now to have reached a point where I might have a better chance of achieving our long-awaited DC2 Smile

Lots of you know me from the common room and freak out threads, for those who don't - I had 3 consecutive MCs in the last year and half, last one was in March this year at 11 weeks. Before that pregnancy I was tested for recurrent MC and discovered to have Factor V Leiden as well as the PCOS I already knew about. The previous MC I was injecting clexane & on aspirin, so it was gutting to be on the treatment and still lose.

Then we moved to New Zealand and after a few months trying I started to feel more at peace with not having the 2nd child we'd planned. That was the month we had sex once, a week before I was due to ovulate and was the month we got a BFP.

I was cared for by the specialist recurrent MC unit here, had serial HCGs until 7 weeks then weekly scans until 13 weeks, since when I've been under the high risk unit. They did a GTT really early on me because of the PCOS and as I was 'borderline' I'm testing bloodsugars 4x daily, following a diabetic diet and taking a ton of metformin along with the clexane injections, and aspirin. Oh, and I'm a VBAC candidate...I'm not sure this pregnancy could get more 'medicalised'!

So ... here we are. I had my anomaly scan today, I'm apparently due on 3rd May, so 19+5, and we've kept the sex unknown. Scan was fine but long as a very stubborn baby refused to be in a good position for the sonographers (2!) to see everything they wanted to about the heart. I am determinedly NOT freaking out about this (despite wondering which, exactly, of the many shots they took of the heart didn't show what they wanted to see...)

I'm thrilled to see so many of my old bods have had their beautiful babies - am going to cling onto that thought and ride on their examples. Looking forward to 'meeting' you all and catching up on your news. I'm posting on my antenatal thread too - my attempt at normality - still a bit 'jinxy' about switching back to my usual name, this one has seen me through this far Blush

Right. I'm going to attempt to sleep.

Been a big day.
Night all

LAF77 · 13/12/2011 10:58

Yay lady you are here! stitch will staple you down soon enough. I feel like you and digi have been on the same path as me, going through MCs around the same time as me over the last 18 months and we seem to be moving in the right direction now. Are you brave enough to be added to the list now?

The list is shortening, so we need lime knitter and twitwoo to come on down soon.

stitch the baby could have just swallowed some amniotic fluid before the scan. My baby's tummy was a bit bigger than average (not off the charts though) at my 24 week scan, and the sonographer was pleased with that. She said that the placenta was doing its job and feeding the baby.

I made an appt for a 4D scan next Monday. I'll be going on my own as a surprise. DH doesn't agree with it as he said that it is a waste of money as he knows several people who have been disappointed with the results. My plan is to get a good photo of baby's face and make a surprise Christmas card for him. Christmas is all about the baby and getting baby things.

I actually bought nappies for a newborn that were on offer yesterday. I spent a long time looking at them in the supermarket. I decided that I should get them in case baby comes earlier than expected. I will have something prepared. It was such a struggle to buy them.

Baby has been moving around a lot more that I can feel. I've seen my stomach move from the outside sitting at my desk this morning, totally crazy!

Thinking of the ladies at the top and hope that you can share news with us of your babies soon!

cep · 13/12/2011 11:07

popping in to check on blackkat good luck for the sweep hon.

Hope everyone is doing well.
we're ok, Can't believe Xander will be 5 weeks on thursday already. Still waking a couple of times a night to feed so am knackered, but surviving. Grin

Blackkat · 13/12/2011 11:44

lady so glad to see you here, always lovely to see people join the thread, particularly after such a journey and the support you offered so many of us in the mc threads. Fx for an uneventful mext four and a half months xx

to Cep I can't believe Xander is 5 wkd already either, hope you get a good sleep soon xx

Sweep has done nothing, back again for another tomorrow. That list is making me so depressed!

Just popping in briefly to wave to everyone and welcome the newbies and returnees - most especially knitter and ladymaybe who I've been with on the ttc after mc and common room threads for so long - it is absolutely fabulous to see you here and doing so well!! Fingers crossed that the remainder of your pgs passes quickly and uneventfully x

Big hugs to those at the top and waiting - I know how frustrating it is Sad

Catherine's a whole 9 days old now and doing really well, we're mainly bf but cheating a little with a ff top up at about 1am; however she then sleeps for a good 6 hour stretch which is fantastic. DS and DD are just besotted with her, it's lovely to have the family complete Smile

stitchinline · 13/12/2011 17:53

i'm sorry blackkat - didn't mean to depress you updating the list. It was just so easy to add a week! Hope tomorrows sweep works for you and newborn snuggles are just around the corner.

They got me in for a scan today at the hospital and all measurements very normal Blush - feeling a bit silly about it all but so glad there is nothing to worry about. Baby is normal size for dates but with long limbs which makes sense given I'm 5'10. So pleased I have such a good midwife - she is so proactive with organising things for me and making sure I'm ok with everything, I feel very lucky really.

Had my hospital tour sunday which was a bit scary, making it all quite real and DH was a bit eeek too.

yay for a good scan lady so pleased to see you here

First off - knitter!! So wonderful to see you here! Here's to a highly uneventful next few months.

Secondly, apols for not posting for such a looooong time - it's amazing how much time it takes to look after something so small!

Here's hoping things are moving for you blackkat and (a bit late) congrats to minnie on reaching DD.

Welcome to the new faces too - this is a lovely supportive thread to be on.

Soooo?. Where to start? Perhaps the birth! I didn?t sleep at all well the night before but was surprisingly relaxed going into hosp and into theatre ? lovely anesthetist who I chatted to almost the whole way through the op. It was very business like, but the staff were lovely and relaxed which helped enormously. The epidural starts acting dead quick from the toes up, but it wears off from the chest down which was kind of weird, but glad I was told about it. The epidural made me feel a bit sick, but apparently that?s normal. When they started the op, it was fine but as they got into it, it was a very strange feeling - no pain, but could really feel the tugging. DH couldn?t see the area itself, but could see my ob/gyn and her assistant?s shoulders and couldn?t believe the strength they had to use ? he said it was like a rugby scrum! Shock Jack came out hollering at 08.36 and they showed him to me quickly before getting DH to cut the cord (he hadn?t particularly wanted to but it was assumed he would) which he said was like cutting a bike tyre ? pretty tough! He was weighed etc (8lb 8oz!!) and then handed back to me in a towel. I got a bit panicky at that point as they had started with the syntocin (sp?) drip to help with the uterus contractions which I felt really high up towards my chest and really felt I was struggling breathing and something was very wrong as I could feel them so strongly, added to which they put Jack on my chest above my boobs which didn?t help with the feeling I couldn?t breathe. Lovely anesthetist gave me a shot of pethadine which really helped and put me in a lovely floaty feeling! Got wheeled through to recovery for a while (looking back I have no idea how long) before going through to one of the maternity rooms and get this ? none of the ?normal? rooms were available so we got to go to the presidential suite!! Hilarious! Think gold sofas, a separate sitting room, huge spare double bedroom, pantry and wet room! Unfortunately we were turfed out of there at around 8pm into a ?normal? private room but still a lovely big size with a sofa bed for DH. We stayed in 3 nights in the end ? could have stayed 4 but we were keen to get home. Pediatrician was happy with Jack and ob/gyn happy with me, other than keeping telling me to take it easy. It was odd as I really wasn?t in any pain with the wound at the time and for about 5 days after but it must have been the pain relief as after that, it was quite sore ? not the wound itself, just my insides ? like I?d done loads of sit-ups. It?s still a bit tender now, 2 weeks later, but I think that it partly my fault for trying to do too much. One of the big plus sides that I hadn?t thought about was the catheter ? I thought I?d hate it, but after months of going to the loo countless times in 1 day, it was a delight to just lie in bed for 24 hours and not worry about it! First time out of bed I was a bit shaky and had a nurse help me in the shower, but otherwise ok. The bleeding wasn?t half as bad as I?d expected and I?ve been on just liners for about the last 5 days. I think they suction some of the blood out during the op. Not sure I?ve covered everything here, so any questions, do ask.

Now, onto the star performer ? young Jack?. What a gorgeous bundle he is! We have renamed him guzzleguts as he feeds so much (well, it seems like that to me, but after reading some threads on mn, he?s perhaps not that bad. Sometimes goes 4 hours without a feed, at other times, barely an hour. The midwife weighed him here at home after 9 days and he was back past birthweight and it will be interesting to see how he is tomorrow when she comes again. It?s still quite hard to believe that he?s in our lives ? a couple of times, I have forgotten about him and just remembered when I see a piece of baby stuff lying around ?does this make me a bad mum?! I got 3 separate nurses giving me advice on b/feeding in hosp, none of which was particularly helpful and they do seem to just shove the boob in his face ? not entirely their fault as they don?t necessarily have the time to spend with you. So, I got a lactation consultant to come and see me at home and it was the best money ever spent. She had over an hour with us and just some small changes made a big difference. I think you guys have La Leche, b/feeding cafes etc. over there which I would really encourage you to use. The other thing she said was that some women give up b/fing because of the loneliness and I can really see what she meant ? at times, I have felt manacled to the feeding chair in the nursery at night and feeling resentful that DH can?t do anything so I?ve made sure that whenever he is around, we feed with him, not by ourselves and that?s really helped. I?ve also made sure that the ipad is close to hand for night feeds, I?ve been reading lots on mumsnet ? only one hand required! ? and it really does help me feel as if I?m not alone.

So, this is all the ?hard? stuff! The great stuff is watching Jack grow and change, even in the short space of 2 weeks. I love the way he pants like a marathon runner after he?s had a big feed, his ever-changing facial expressions ? from Mr Magoo to an almost smile to shock to curiosity to contentment. I love the way he waggles his face from side to side when he?s approaching the boob and the way that I am his entire world. I love the way DH looks after him and talks to him and to spend the time wondering with DH what Jack is thinking and how he?s going to turn out. He feels so brand new and at the same time as if he?s been with us forever.

Top tips from me so far ?

  • sleep when they do (hard, as you want to get on with all the other bits and pieces of every day life, but it?s so essential)
  • Keep going with b/feeding ? it?s a skill to be learned by you both and it doesn?t come overnight. I haven't got it cracked quite yet, but everyone tells me it gets better from around 6 weeks.
  • Try and do only 1 thing a day i.e. one trip out, one lot of visitors, update facebook etc.
  • Enjoy the snuggles ? you?re not just there as a feeding and changing machine!

I think that's quite enough from me for now - do let me know if you have any questions!

Hot buttered crumpets for all! xx

Wombat33 · 14/12/2011 09:07

Very quick wave to all you lovely ladies and a hurrah for lady congratulations on the anomaly scan!

Wombat33 · 14/12/2011 09:09

Ps when the list gets done next, my little girl was 8lbs 1oz and born on Saturday 10 September (not sun 11th thank god - i'd had quite enough of labour by Saturday morning!) Grin

dooscooby · 14/12/2011 09:56

Yey-there's activity in here again! Fab to hear from you wombat, thanks for taking the time to post your birth story and for all the other info-it's really touching and makes everything feel more real.

Welcome lady - nice to have you here with us.

On the app so gonna post this and then read back over the other stuff-memory isn't the greatest at the mo!

dooscooby · 14/12/2011 10:05

Doh-both wombats posting at similar times confused me Wink. Waves to wombat and thanks to wiw for your post - its amazing how once you're in the other side it feels like you had you bub ages ago, but it was only 2 weeks, wow.

It's helpful to hear your section story-I haven't really given much thought to the possibility that I might need one and the other day I read the end of my rough guide pg book and the woman in there ended up with elcs and I burst into tears!! Anyway, I'm not sure how much you're able to envisage every scenario, but it's helpful to know a bit more about a planned one and how you felt at the different stages.

Right, best get on. Pleased the scan was all fine stitch, it's a big relief isn't it. Got what I expect is my final growth scan tomorrow at 39wks-will be good to discover the actual size of this baby quite soon!

Big waves to blackkat

shellshock7 · 14/12/2011 13:16

LAF and stitch baby moves are awesome at the min, DH and I don't watch telly anymore, just my belly! He is transverse/oblique at the mo and loves sticking his head out my side, this round ball just appears every night its so funny!

Stitch mines on course to be a biggun too...I was 10lb 2.5 and my bruv was 10lb 14 Shock so am nervous about just how big he will be! How does it feel (almost) knowing the date you will have your baby, very exciting!, but sorry that your circumstances mean you need this close monitoring.

Lady congrats on the scan! Glad everything looks good.

LAF excited for you re your 4D scan, it really is amazing.

Hi to everyone who have already had their babies, its nice to hear from the other side Smile

Wombat what a lovely post, you sound so happy and it was lovely to read Smile

Oh stitch I am so jealous of you about to finish for ML, I am struggling at the mo, in pain nearly all the time and so tired...I've got a week left before xmas and then 4 weeks when we go back in Jan and I am done, just can't come quick enough.

Went to labour in motion class with DH this week, made me a bit stressed! All the tips she gave for getting the baby in a good position (our baby is still flipping between transverse and oblique at the mo) seem like they are going to be painful for me so I'm worrying that I won't be able to get him moved and may end up needing a CS. Daft I know to be worrying now as still plenty of time but it did make it all seem so real and close!

stitchinline · 15/12/2011 13:35

Hope it is quiet in here because the top of the listers are off having lovely babies.

Shell I am quite pleased to have a date that I won't go past as I do like to be in control of things. It also made it easier for my parents to book flights as they are now going to come a weeks after my due date. Pudding is also oblique here so

I think I have managed to fracture my baby toe, caught it on the edge of the bath last week and it is still swollen and I can't bear any weight on it still. Only managing to wear an old sneakers - not a great look for work Blush It's hard enough to walk with the pain in my hips without this happening. Can't get into the GP until next week

Thanks for posting your story wiw good to get a first hand view on a CS and some top tips as well.

dooscooby · 16/12/2011 09:29

Lurking for news from blackkat minnie or harassed!

I had a horrid nights sleep, just felt so uncomfortable with baby pushing into my ribs but also downwards. Had period pains every 10/20 mins or so from about 2am, but they lasted only about 30 secs or so. Still got quite a lot of pain now. Not sure if that means something is imminent or its just one of those things that happens days/weeks before. Any of you experienced ones know? Not sure whether to go out this morning as planned or to take it easy in case it gets much worse!

stitch sorry to hear about your toe-sounds painful. shell the crazy movements are very entertaining arent they-the last few days my tummy has been contorted into this strange diagonal shape and my tummy button almost comes back for a while, then it will move back into a 'normal' bump shape!

MilkywaysAndBump · 16/12/2011 10:07

Hi all, hope you're all well! I haven't been here for a while - just want to say a big congratulations to all the new mothers from Velvet to Bigmac! blackkat hoping you're well and that your little one makes an appearance soon! Also good to see some faces from the freak out room over here. Glad everything is going well with you all.

All is fine with me - apart from terrible heartburn and spd at night I'm feeling quite well. I've been in nesting instinct mode for the past month and a half and it's really bad...I'm cleaning everything and even the bathroom is getting retiled and refitted Confused. I kind of wish I had accepted this pregnancy would work out in those first 20 weeks now, because I feel so behind with things to do. Still listening in to little one with the doppler when I haven't noticed him move - but he is a wrigglesome little thing and is almost always on the go in there. My bags are packed and ready for hospital, and seeing as baby's head was engaged last week I'm hoping something will happen in the next few weeks!
