Welcoming all those pregnant after miscarriage who need hand-holding, a place to moan, share happy news or just lurk.

It will happen for us this time.

KnitterNotTwitter · 20/12/2011 13:50

Doo - don't know if this will help but with blocked ducts kellymom suggests you try 'dangle feeding' ... not one for when you're out and about but quite fun for a change when you're at home...

And here is a good article on tips for if you have inverted nipples.

the ladies over on the breastfeeding boards are amazing - helped me so much when I had DS and he had a weird latch and then we had nasty thrush...

Daisybell1 · 20/12/2011 14:08
Daisybell1 · 20/12/2011 14:10

Ps Knitter, do you actually knit? I am afraid I'm a bit obsessed....

KnitterNotTwitter · 20/12/2011 20:37

oooh - I promised I wouldn't be caught by you lot until mid-Jan when I have my 23 week scan... darn you with your cunning leaping out from behind the beanbags...

So given that i'm not REALLY here (only 18 weeks tomorrow) yes I do knit... Started knitting when DS was 1 and a bit and knitted constantly for about 2 years. For some reason I lost my knitting oomph when I had my termination for Downs back in April... At the same time I lost the OCD that I'd developed when pregnant with DS - weird huh.

That said I love knitting and frequently contribute to MumsNet Blankets... I do also have a jumper for DS, pair of gloves for DS and pair of socks for me on my needles - just not making very good progress on any of the projects....

mousebacon · 20/12/2011 21:05

Delurks to wave at knitter Grin

Hello ladies. I had my 5th scan today and am 15+3 now.

Daisybell1 · 20/12/2011 22:59

Knitter, I'm sorry you've lost your knitting mojo since April. Here's to getting it back soon! Knitting has been my therapy since finding out about Pip, and has really helped me stay calm. I'm with you on the not finishing things though - I stupidly started knitting her a stripey cardigan which I just can't get into (I HATE knitting stripes!) and she will have outgrown very soon, I have the back and front of another jumper, but no sleeves yet, plus I have the wool lined up for the next two projects. I am seriously at risk of starting them and not finishing anything!

LadyMaybe · 21/12/2011 00:19

There!
Knitter, you are definitely here..... gooowaaaaannnnnn stay! 23 weeks is ages away Smile Oh and I have what I call my 'eternity' blanket that I've been knitting for the last 2 years, basically since my first MC. I picked it up and put it down as I recovered or suffered MCs but since this pg I've not touched my needles. Not sure why.

Dachs! soooo pleased to see you here with us. I was very sad to see you write "baby #1", I hope it didn't make you wobble too much.
I get waves of sadness still when I see my 'baby #2' - this one is moving and making his/her presence felt, but I'm still so aware of the others that I didn't get to meet/feel. Oh hell...just made myself cry again. My hormones are really kicking in this week Sad

Welcome also to ginga do you want to go on the list? It's nice here Smile Oh and 16 weeks was when my nausea finally started to lift. I found that 16-19 weeks was a really hard stretch as the symptoms do lift a lot - the fatigue, nausea etc all went for me, but movements were not easy to spot. I did start to feel them in that time though, so just keep a look out for flippy fish-tail, popping etc it could be any time now!

blackkat I hope you're all snuggled up with your baby and the induction went well.

LAF did you get a good pic from the scan? We didn't get any pictures from my last anatomy scan but I've got another after Christmas so will ask if I can. They got such a cute shot of the feet that I really want!

Mouse if you're still lurking, lovely to hear of the good scan and I can't wait to see you over here. Am so excited to see so many of the ladies that I've seen suffer several MCs hopefully finally get their beautiful babies.

Right - so as I said the hormones are kicking in this week. I think maybe I've been holding it all in check a bit until the anomaly scan but am starting to acknowledge the prospect of a baby now and am starting to loosen the emotional grip. Guess the prospect of Christmas is also a time for reflection - and sadly the thoughts in the last few haven't been that happy. But am looking forward to this one, the first with my family for over 10 years Grin

doo am not ignoring you...just want to go see your BFing thread too....

LadyMaybe · 21/12/2011 00:53

Dooscooby Oh dear, it really brings it all back, I really struggled with DS too and it was such a stressful, tearful time. It did work out for us in the end, but honestly it was about 6 weeks before I felt that it was anywhere near being a normal, pain-free experience. I just wish I could sit beside you and give you a squeeze because it's soooo hard when you're struggling and the emotions/hormones are raging and the baby is crying. But as someone looking back on it, I honestly want to tell you that any solution you find to feed your baby is ok. It's one aspect in the care of your child, just like the birth is one aspect in becoming a mother. So try not to base a lot emotional baggage on whether you end up an exclusive BFing mother or whether you end up a mix-feeding mother or formula-feeding mother.

Ok, that said:

  • Heat, warm compresses only before trying to express or feed
  • Cool compresses after, to help swelling. It's not all milk, there is blood and lymph fluid there too.
  • try listening to this podcast: www.pregtastic.com/breastfeeding-part-3-of-4-solutions-for-common-breastfeeding-problems/
  • little and often suckling, limit visitors or interference
  • cabbage leaves, keep in the fridge and put in bra, change when they warm up
  • you could take ibuprofen, for swelling, ck

Was the midwife concerned with your baby's weight or nappies? Honestly, they need so little at this early stage, their tummies are tiny weeny, size of walnut type stuff, so they really do not need a lot of milk. The crying can be many things.

Do you feel ill? any redness? any fever? if so you need to see your GP to check for mastitis.

Keep asking for help.

CollieandPup · 21/12/2011 05:19

doo. congratulations darling well done. Sorry that you're struggling with bf though it really sounds like you're having a tough time of it. It founds like you have lots if good support around you. You're doing great hun, but I second everyone else comments, please don't be hard on yourself if it doesn't work out. The saying breast is best is all well and good but its really only the case when mum and baby are happy. All these annoying people that say that bf is easy really talk bollocks, its hard bloody work and doesn't always work! Have been through much less than you and even my mw and hv have commented I'm doing well to still be bf.

knitter Mouse lady and dachs amazing to see you all here with good news!

laf I LOVE my good and even when ill rarely lose my appetite but I did on the 2nd half of my pg. I think it was bcs my stomach was so squashed up....but I've got it back now....tip-snack often and eat smaller portions!

Velvetcu · 21/12/2011 05:58

knitter you have to stay now! And mouse too!

Velvetcu · 21/12/2011 05:59

And dachs

This thread is going to be huge since none of us ever leave Grin

dooscooby · 21/12/2011 06:00

Hi all
Just a quicky again to say thanks for being a lifeline over the past few days. The tips and tricks and support that you've posted have been amazing. I'm still having real trouble but mws have been visiting daily & things might be easing a little.

Ended up at the docs yest who sent us to a&e cos I've got a history of breast cysts that might be causing additional probs/discomfort/concern. Anyway, after taking lots of advice from various specialists we decided a night in a&e wasn't what we all needed. Off to a support group today too...just having to fend off the visitors quite strongly in the meantime.

Anyway, as others have said-fab to see lady, knitter, mouse on here. Dachs - I'm thrilled that things are going well and wish you a relaxing festive period.

Now where are those Christmas babies..? I always thought I'd be the one delivering at Christmas or on my own festive birthday of Christmas Eve! Thinking of you all x

Biscuitsandtinsel · 21/12/2011 06:25

Morning,

Hope everyone is ok. Just wanted to second (third? Fourth?) what everyone else has said Doo - you're young a great great job and feeding us just one tiny element of being a mum - like the birth is. You have to do what is best for the both of you, be it bf, mix feed or ff. As Collie says bf is bloody hard going - I think it is hard for the majority, not the minority. Especially at the start. The 'isn't it easy and wonderful' brigade are lucky, or further along and have forgotten the tears at the start!

Anyway, good luck with your support group today - hope they can give you plenty of help xx

Can't believe we have seven full termers at the top of the list Shock. Come on, we need some Christmas babies Smile

I, on the other don't seem to be moving up the list at all - I think I might have made time stop its going so flipping slowly. I've been pg forever but yet I still have forever to go Sad

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/12/2011 07:39

Damn it - not fast enough....

OK I'll stay but I'm not going on the list yet... will that do?

Lady interesting what you say about losing symptoms around week 17. I've got that at the moment - causing mild freak-outs here but the doppler keeps saying that all is well so that's good.

Finally told DH that I'd bought the doppler and he was, predictably, grumpy about it... knew he would be! I'm getting a lot of reassurance from it at the moment - only use it once a week or so though... which I think is pretty good.

digitalgirl · 21/12/2011 09:00

Just popping in to say hello, add some more superglue to the lurkers mouse, knitter, lady and dachs.

Have two more days of work then I'm off for two weeks. Hoorah! Feeling pretty ill today, which is the first time in 2.5 years that my immune system isn't firing at 110%. Even when I was on the steroids I didn't get ill. Aside from the grottiness it's rather comforting to know that this time my body is putting this baby first before me.

Think I'm a day out on the list - should be 23+2 today. Will amend when I'm not on phone unless anyone else gets there first.

Glad to hear you're making it to a support group doo and that you're getting daily support from the mw's. Think you're doing so so well to be persevering in your situation (it was a huge struggle for me and I didn't have inverted nipples nor a history of cysts).

Anyone around my stage have alternate restful/active days with their lo? I find if baby is kicking loads one day they take it easy the next. Reminds me of the alternate bad/good nights with ds in the first few months. Suspect this baby will be just as bad challenging a sleeper as ds.

Welcome ginga!

MilkywaysAndBump · 21/12/2011 11:48

Hi all, lurking for new baby news! Hope your induction went well blackkat!

Sorry you've had a hard time bf-ing Doo, I remember I was the same with my DD. I actually gave up for the first 2 days and bottle fed until I was motivated by my sister to give it a go again. My midwife told me to make a fist and massage from my armpits down to the breasts under hot water between each feed which really helped with the flow and engorged breasts. You sound like you have brilliant support, and that's really important to keep you motivated. Well done.

LAF I have never really gained any appetite with this pregnancy. I was on 2 meals a day from conception up to about 34 weeks. My mw told me that snacking is fine if I couldn't face a meal, so that's what I've been doing. My favourite food at the moment is mango and pomegranate with greek yoghurt. Hope your scan went well and you got a good picture.

I've banished my snoring husband to the spare room as I wasn't getting any sleep with him there. It's great having the bed to myself. My daughter has developed an attitude at aged 4. I'm forever telling her "no" and am really worried about what's going to happen when the baby comes along. She just doesn't listen to me anymore. Hopefully it's just my hormones making me overreact, and things will get better with her once I'm my normal self again! Just counting down the days now.

stitchinline · 21/12/2011 11:59

lurking for news.....

manic here as ML starts friday and still a million and one things to get done before then, thankfully is just goingt o be a very quiet christmas with just DH and myself so hopefully can catch up on sleep then!

will check back properly soon but it is lovely to see lots of you making your way over

digi -at your stage i definitely had some big movement days and some not so much

LAF77 · 21/12/2011 13:01

wow, it's quite the the of acivity here lately, as it was pretty quiet earlier in the week!

I did go for my 3D scan on Monday. It freaked me out TBH. The scan photo is on my MN profile pg. It looks like the cord is around my baby's neck. I was panicking quite a bit. Yesterday was the anniverary of the loss of my third pg, so I was feeling quite vulnerable. I know the baby isn't breathing, but I wish I didn't feel like I always had something to worry about.

My keyboard seems to be playing up on this site, as it keeps missing out letters and spaces. I?m having to pound really hard, so I?ll keep this message brief!

shellshock7 · 21/12/2011 13:12

hi ginga congrats on your pregnancy, hope you are feeling better now Smile

Dachs made up for your passing your milestone, hope the pressure has eased a bit for you now

LAF hope the scan went well and you got a good photie for your DH....I'm still in mega eat phase, went from little appetite to eating like a horse at about 23-24 weeks and it hasn't gone yet! Nausea is back with a vengeance though if I don't eat and especially when I wake up in night or in the morning, biccies are back by the bed!

Hey knitter well done for staying over here!

Lady agree re hormones, I'm crying all the time and very a bit short tempered Blush

Doo glad to hear things are easing a little, hope you are giving yourself a break too and not pressurising yourself too much Smile

digital I had the movement thing you are having, the doppler was a god send at that time...haven't used it for ages now, so rest assured the movement does get more consistent...its changed again though for me now, not much kicking, just squiggling about?!

I'm plodding on as normal, physio upped my exercises this week and they hurt, am in a lot of pain in the evenings now....she also suggested starting my maternity leave when I finish for xmas today, but I am going to try and work till end of Jan like planned, will see how successful that is!

I've got a wedding tomorrow which I'm dreading tbh, got a lovely frock etc. Grin but fear it will be too tiring for me and I wont enjoy it, DH says we can go as soon as I'm in pain but I'd like to think I can last it out for our friends.

Hoping to hear some baby news soon!

digitalgirl · 21/12/2011 14:25

Hi everyone
Sorry I haven't been on for ages but have been lurking on & off. Anyway I have some news, our little Popsicle has arrived! We've had a little boy(4lb12oz) on Sunday 18th Dec, born by c-section 'd been having regular growth scans & at the last one last week, it showed that he was growing very well at all (although he was always going to be small) so c-section was booked for Monday. Had a c-section last time & knew this was going to be any different. But he had other ideas. Had a very slight twinge of a contraction on Saturday evening so decided I really better pack my bag right there & then (didn't tell DH at that point he case he panicked). Anyway all calmed down & I didn'Look our Christmas present came early! Charlie Thomas Hancock arrived on Sunday 18th December at 11.11am. He's a teeny tiny superstar at 4lb 12oz. He's doing really well & the doctors want to keep their eyes on him for a bit longer before we go home. Can't blame them, I'm the same :)t think anymore of it until my waters broke at 4am. Time to make plan & put into action so called the PILS to come over ASAP & called a friend to come here in the interim as they were 2 hours away. Turned up at the hospital and had csection at 11am.
All is ok but since he's quite small they're hanging onto him for a bit longer. We've avoided SCBU but he's been on the light box for jaundice which is now ok. Hoping to be out in the next day or two & certainly in time for an extra special Christmas Grin
I'm posting this on my phone & mowbli reception is crap so hope this works. I'll then catch up on everyone else's news as this is rather a me, me, me post -apologies.
Also can someone move me down to the grads next time they do the list. How cool is that!!

Congrats freezing wonderful news!!! Grin Grin Grin

Hope to hear you're both back home soon and enjoying a snuggly newborn Christmas with your family x

Freezingmyarseoff · 21/12/2011 19:37

Right I've caught up a bit now.
Congrats doo on the birth of your daughter, how wonderful. But I'm also sorry to hear you're having a tough time of it with BF. I don't really have any more advice that hasn't been said already but I really feel for you. The whole feeding thing is so emotional & I've already had several testy breakdowns already over feeding concerns. Don't forget too that you have been through so much & exhaustion & hormones really do have a major impact on being able to make decisions & think straight.

Also I'm sorry for doing major queue jumping. I haven't been on here for the past week & just assumed that more people would have had their babies. Hope they come very soon

Lovely to see dachs, lady, knitter & mouse hey there! And welcome ginga

Need to get some sleep before next feed. Smile
