Hello :)

Im 39 weeks tomorrow and feeling the same.

Ive felt a little fed up the past few days actually. Im uncomfortable- bad back, always needing a pee, constipated and my double chin is getting bigger by the day due to boredom snacking! Im of course scared about labour but at the same time would just love to get it out of the way now and meet my baby. I think the worst thing is not knowing when it will happen! Im not really having any signs of baby being ready to exit at the moment, how about you?

Im trying to keep the house tidy so when it does happen I wont have to worry about returning to a mess so I put the washer on and do a little ironing most days, watch tv, go on the laptop, cook for when my OH returns from work. If my Mum has a day off I usually arrange to go out of the house for an hour or two with her, usually just a browse somewhere or some food shopping and dinner. Also have an afternoon nap and usually a nice bath or shower and try to pamper myself.

Must admit I've not got many plans this week apart from a midwife appointment on Wed, I might go to a local beauty salon and have a pedicure one day as my toenails are way out of reach and could do with painting and One of my friends is meant to be coming over on Thursday for a natter. Im going to have another big clean up tomorrow I think as I find it keeps me active and passes a few hours.

In terms of the birth Im low risk so hoping to have baby on the midwife led birthing centre attached to the normal maternity ward. This is my first baby so not got any tips for you really! Wish I had :)

I'm a bit behind you guys I have nearly 3 weeks to go. It's my 3rd child but I still keep thinking omg I'm Gunna be a mom, also the fear of knowing it has to come out. I'm still working full time so that's keeping me busy bit 12 hr days make me feel tired by bedtime then I can't sleep coz my back hurts. I do get my down time when I get pampered by an amazing team of midwives for a few hrs every other day when I have an iron drip which takes about 3 hours. My favourite is Monday's drip when I no that my cleaner has been so when I finish work my house makes me smile. So today I'm enjoying a few hrs with everyone out the house.
Good luck and take care xxx

Hey

Can understand completely - I will be 39 weeks on Wednesday, and when I saw the midwife last Wednesday she said "See you in to weeks - if you make it that far!"

I got all excited and asked did she mean baby is likely to come early? She said it could well do as it's almost engaged. So every day since I've been hoping... And now I'm thinking it'll probably be late.

Plus this is my second, and I keep hearing they can come early but I also know of so many people who are late second time around. There really is no certainty with dates, is there?!

I'm just making the most of e newborn-free time (although I obviously have a toddler) and am cleaning/tidying.

TrinaW · 06/11/2011 18:06

Hi all,

I'm 39 wks today and feeling completely the same. I've been trying to keep busy by tidying up and sorting out all the random clutter that has been clogging up our house but am now running out of projects... I've also (don't judge me!) just about finished my Christmas shopping so will be doing some wrapping this week to pass some time.

Other than that, just obsessing over any slight change, ache or discomfort in the hope that it's the first signs of labour. We even went to the fireworks last night so see if the combination of walking, standing and loud bangs would get things going (it mostly resulted in a sore back). Fingers crossed all our LOs get a move on!

crazyhead · 06/11/2011 18:53

I'm 39 plus one and quite honestly, I've not had a hint of a sign labour is on the way. First baby, and while his head is down he isn't fully engaged, I'm not twingey, haven't had a show - nothing. Baby is simply wriggling merrily away and seems quite happy to stay put.

I'm feeling OK, but if this goes on for another three weeks I will be seriously pissed off....I've always had a feeling I'd go over.

twogirls1more · 06/11/2011 19:56

I'm 39wks tues and with my 4th so I guess you could say I'm a bit of an old pro, though that doesn't seem to make any difference tbh as every labour's different! I'm experiencing many, many "signs" and think I've been in latent labour for a couple of weeks, (which seems to be annoyingly common the more babies you have!) Been having bouts of painful contractions coming and going over the last few wks that just fade out over time, which is frustrating as each day your bod seems to wind you up, telling you today really could be the day! (Would much rather be in same position as some of u first-timers! :))
As you say, we're all now at term so really baby could decide to put in an appearance today, tomorrow or in 3wks time!? So hard to plan and keep busy just getting on with life isn't it!? I just keep going over the same old household chores thinking this could be the last time I have to clean the kitchen floor or do that pile of ironing before I go in to have baby.. (then I just end up having to do it again!) Haven't really many tips on passing the time really girls! I'm just trying to enjoy the end of this pregnancy, (despite all the discomfort,) as is my 4th and last! Good luck with everything, and happy labouring! :) x

GemmaReeto · 06/11/2011 21:23

twogirls1more- I know what you mean about the cleaning, Im getting sick of it now...each time I do it I think please god let this be the last time!

libranlady · 07/11/2011 03:02

twogirls, I am in the same position as you except this is my third. I've been having BH contractions, which are sometimes pretty intense, on and off for the last week or two but they fizzle out and have come to nothing so far. The midwife says I am dilating slowly though which at least means they are doing something. Have an appointment tomorrow morning so hopefully she will tell me I am a bit further along again.
Am so ready to have this baby. Fingers and feet are swollen and sore, indigestion is raging and really waddling now so moving about is not a lot of fun. Also not sleeping well hence my post at 4 o'clock in the morning
< frustrated emoticon>!
Will all be forgotten in the end though and at this stage, even if I go 2 weeks over, it still isn't very far away ( am 38+5)
As for passing the time, don 't forget to read when you can. Will be ages before you can get really lost in a good book again probably Grin
Good luck to everyone when the time comes. May our labours be brief and easy, one and all!!!

whimsicalquark · 07/11/2011 03:37

Hi, im 39 weeks on tuesday with my first and I'm sooooooo fed up with this waiting game. I had what I think was a show on thurs/fri and nothing really since. Was so excited when I got that and convinced myself that it was all starting to happen and then when nothing did I was very disappointed.
Have had a few (very mild ) twinges yesterday which didnt get any stronger so dont think they are going anywhere, I just want my baby now. Getting fed up with people asking me 'any signs yet ' !! Angry
I have been off work for over 2 weeks now and have ran out of things to do, christmas shopping has been done and wrapped. 2 weeks worth of batch cooking done and frozen, christmas cakes cooked and stored, baby clothes pre washed ,ironed and out away. Have had pre-birth wax and had my hair cut in case dont get chance again for a while. Every conceivable cupboards/drawer/space has been cleaned decluttered and organised. I really have ran out of things to do. My house has never been so tidy !!!!!!!
my current daily routine in one of watching trashy tv, internet, napping and washing/cleaning things that really dont need to be cleaned ! (am particually excited as tomorrow is bed changing day !!! )

Nearlypopped · 07/11/2011 03:44

39 + 2 and really ready for it to come now! It will be my third - have one of each so far and don't know the sex but having issues trying to come up with names! Have had no signs but the last one was a speedy delivery so thinking about every twitch!

MummySSB · 07/11/2011 04:59

Gosh..I'm t same! I'll be 40w on Tuesday...not really had any signs or even any major braxton hicks...been at home for 3weeks now, everything cleaned, washed, tidied etc and just about managing to keep myself busy each day...so really want something to happen now!! Been telling myself things will never be t same and I'll never get this time back with DH- who's been amazing! Even he's getting impatient, esp as everyone from our NCT group has had their babies before due date! Starting to feel t odd one out!!
Might have to start a pineapple diet tmrw...Hmm..!
Hope all our babies get a wriggle on soon!

flippingstupidnickname · 07/11/2011 06:43

Hi all,

I'm 37+3 and VERY jealous of the 2+ weeks most of you have on me! My last pregnancy only made it to 33 weeks so I feel overdue already (althougbh I'm obviously very thankful and relieved to have made it to 'full term').

Twogirls and libranlady - Similar position to you both - this is my third and think that I'm perhaps experiencing a very loooong drawn out latent phase. I started the thread about frustrating painful contractions. I really thought this was it yesterday Sad

If you're looking for things to do to keep busy I can thoroughly recommend making some freezable home cooked meals for after the birth. The last thing you'll feel like doing is cooking but it's also a time in your life when eating well is paramount! And if anyone can think of anything easy to make and freezable that isn't mince can you let me know!

flippingstupidnickname · 07/11/2011 06:46

Hehe, makes me chuckle to see how many of us are up well before 7am...

Forgot to mention, I had a VERY hot curry last night in a pathetic attempt to get things moving... done nothing to bring on labour - just given me a bad stomach this morning!

Woohoo - finishing work on Wed. Has everyone else finished work already?

Pastabee · 07/11/2011 08:16

I've got 8 days until my due date. I'm still finding plenty to do but I know I can't keep that up beyond this week. I foolishly hope the baby will come in the week it's due so will appear sometime next week. Lord knows how I'll amuse myself if it doesn't.

samwidgz I had the exact same conversation with my midwife. She booked me in for a sweep on my due date and then said 'if you make it that far'. I was all elated and pathetically grateful on the drive home and bloody DH said 'oh, she probably says that to everyone' at the 38 week appointment. Then he really pissed me off by saying 'the baby will be here when it's ready' in a really patient and mature voice. Arghh!

twogirls1more · 07/11/2011 08:36

Almost like minor therapy isn't this girls loL! :) Do we share the same due date then libranlady? (I'm the 15th.)
Yes, latent labour seems to be "my thing" these days! (Had same drawn out latent phase with DD3 20mths ago which went on for wks!!) When I finally knew I was in full-blown labour though I was already 9cms on first examination and the really painful stage didn't last much longer than an hr and half! (Here's hoping it's same this time and all these strong BH's and show etc have been doing something!!) My main worry is that I'll get cover for my other 3 kids in time though and DH will make it home frm work in time! (He works a 2hr drive away! :()
I started a thread about annoying latent labour recently if anyone wants to join in?!
gemma you've given me a good idea there.. think I might have to go get a pedicure tomorrow as DD3's at nursery all day so am making the most of my tuesdays to myself atm! :)
Keep posting girls, look forward to hearing when things happen for you! (Hope I'm not last Envy! Had DD1 10 days late after induction and both DD's2&3 on due date so am banking on not going over?!!? Confused!

twogirls1more · 07/11/2011 08:47

So are you too due on the 15th pasta? How exciting to share my due date with a few of you! :) Interesting that alot of you seem to be getting offered a sweep on or v close to your due date... My 3 babys so far have all been on the bigger side..(8lb and over,) though not had a 10lb'er yet!, lots of painful latent labour, baby this time is said to have big head, etc etc and yet my MW has just said I'll have appt nxt wk at 40wks and if nothing by a whole 41wks she'll do sweep then?!! Really don't see why I should have to go a whole wk over before even getting a sweep, (which isn't guaranteed to do anything anyway and if it does, could take a few days!) I had a sweep 5 days before due date with my last. Confused Anyone any ideas on what if anything I can do about this?! I guess if not, I'll just have to bank on baby coming by about due date?! (I did conceive this one v early in my cycle this time so hopefully that'll work to my advantage lol????)

Pastabee · 07/11/2011 09:27

Yep twogirls1more. 'Have you packed your bag / tried sex / pineapple / curry'. Sorry, I couldn't resist getting that old crap in.....!

Apparently the NICE guidelines are to offer a sweep at 40 weeks to first time mums and 41 weeks for subsequent births. I don't know why though......

Hopefully all this latent labour will mean by the time it gets going you'll have already done some of the hard work? I think they get quicker? I'm one of 3 girls, 10 years older than the youngest and my mum dropped me at school seemingly fine and there was already a sister when my grandparents came to get me at 3.20!

twogirls1more · 07/11/2011 10:17

Those guidelines are crap! Each individuals experience and situation should all be taken into account I feel! Only thing I can think of is that you're supposedly more likely to go over DD with first and labour often takes longer to get going? Though on the flip side, with subsequent you're more likely to experience long and often painful latent labour for days/weeks, be carrying a larger baby, have the stress of dealing with other child/children etc..
Think if you're absolutely sure of your dates and carrying a baby who's at least average size.. (like I said mine weren't huge but pretty big!.. 8lb, 8.5lb and nearly 9.) This time babys head is about 97th centile and I was measuring 40wks a week ago. (have a 50" bump!) then you should at least be able to get sweep on due date! (If I was having a C section he'd be here by now wouldn't he!?)

Pastabee · 07/11/2011 10:57

Makes sense to me - if it is available then people can just make their own minds up taking their circumstances into advance.

libranlady · 07/11/2011 15:32

Hi, went to see midwife this morning and she said cervix is thinning nicely and now 2 cms dilated as opposed to 1 a week ago. Gave me a little sweep - not too intense and said hopefully something will happen in next week. Have been having contractions every 3 or 4 minutes all afternoon but not getting any stronger or closed together so am expecting them to fizzle out again - but maybe not??
Fingers crossed - wish me luck!

Pastabee · 07/11/2011 16:49

Ooo. Definitely fingers crossed. Hope this is it for you.

twogirls1more · 07/11/2011 17:21

How come so many of you seem to be getting internals before your due date and the most I've been offered is a sweep once I'm a wk late?! Confused
Anyway, hope things start to happen now for you libran! Seems to be looking promising doesn't it! Good luck and keep us posted! :) x

libranlady · 07/11/2011 18:36

Seem to be ramping up a bit - though not totally convinced this is IT. Am packing my other two kids off to stay with friends tonight though just in case....so there will be at least 4 very disappointed people in the morning if this comes to nothing Smile In answer to your question twogirls, I live in Switzerland and it is all very different. They offered to induce me last week and again today. Don't seem adverse to that at all strangely. Anyway, hopefully won't need that. Will keep you posted Grin

flippingstupidnickname · 07/11/2011 19:34

Oooh, libranlady sounds like this could be it to me!!! How exciting - please, please keep us updated. Are the contractions painful?

twogirls - I had a midwife appointment today and she didn't mention anything about sweeps. My next appointment isn't for 2 weeks now which will be a couple of days before my due date so I definitely won't be having a sweep before D day!! I'm with you - sod packing a bag for the hospital, let's pack a bag for Switzerland instead! Grin

Just had some period type pain today... not with any tightenings - just a dull ache every so often. Ugghhhhh... baby's measuring small and I think my original due date (2nd Dec) is actually the correct one so everything is pointing towards me going over... Envy

libranlady · 08/11/2011 06:41

Morning. As I feared it would, all fizzled out at about midnight after about 8 hours of regular BH coming every 2 or 3 minutes for about a minute each. I knew it. They were frequent, but not intense enough and so the wait continues!
Will let you know.......
