I'm having a boy and over the moon about it due in 12 weeks the only thing is i've never taken care of a boy before plenty experiance with girls but none with boys. Does anyone have an tips/advice on the practical parts of having a boy?? i know nappys are a different story with boys but thats about it...

Put cotton wool/wipe over his dinkle when changing or you'll get hosed. And poo has a lovely way of getting under their balls..

congratulations.

I think I read on here once that boys are like dogs and need to be worn out daily. I have found this true. My DS is full pelt from the word go until he rests his head.

Oh, and they start getting erections at about 18 months - nobody told me about that. Didn't know where to put myself when it first happened.

My DS is only little still and no dd yet to know the difference, but someone once said to me that having sons is similar to having a dog - feed them well and let them run around! It seems good advice so far
Oh, and they find their willy quickly! It seems to be a life long obsession from an early age, but be prepared for the 'how far can I stretch it?' game and watch DP/DH wince a little!
Also, you'll quickly find that the clothes section for boys is tiny compared to girls and there is far less choice.

You will find it difficult to find any nice clothes for boys. Unless you are a fan of massive slogans and 'Here comes Trouble' type 'hilarious' tops Having boys is lovely though. Agree with mamalovebird about the wearing them out!

Yes, the clothes thing irks me a bit. There's i loads of nice girl clothes but hardly any boys stuff.

From comparing sexes with friends who have girls & boys, girls seem to be more independent and boys want more of your full on attention.

DS2 had a play kitchen for his 2nd birthday and also loved pushing his Fimble about in a dolls buggy. Be prepared for it not to be all dumper trucks and garages! Unfortunately it's all about the Football now. Bear in mind that in ten year's time you may be spending your Saturdays stood in the rain watching him play footy and washing the muddy kit afterwards!!

The only thing different for me was nappies. SInce birth ds has been on a mission to liberate his willy at every opportunity and it created much more washing than dd ever did. But apart from that, he will just be himself, not a 'boy'. It makes little difference to what he will play with or like to do. My ds is currently carting a doll around everywhere with him and declaring to everyone who'll listen that he wants to be a princess. He's also Thomas mad. I have found him much harder work than dd, because he is far more energetic and less likely to play by himself, but again I don't put that down to him being a boy, just him being himself. I'm kind of hoping for another boy this time tbh, despite him aging me far more than dd ever did

Interesting reading girls! I'm currently nearly 38wks preg with my 4th and last DC. I'm having a boy this time after 3 girls so I'm feeling a bit lost also!!

fuckity my DS is also Thomas obsessed. We have to put it on as soon as he wakes up and whenever we're in the house it has to be on. He gets so excited and dances whenever it comes on.

I've never been so tired. But that could just be babies, not boys.

It's like they implant them with the Thomas chip at birth How, at 3 years old, can he know all of their names?? He's called his doll Thomas and is insisting that the new baby will also be called Thomas. Oh dear...

Erections from 18 months? My DS had them from birth, although he didn't actually find his willy until he was over a year old.

The main difference I've noticed is the way they show frustration. Boys tend to either sulk or throw themselves around. Girls scream and flap and stomp their feet.

Boys and girls are pretty similar though really, unless they have the type of parents who force them into gender roles from an early age.

Haha - my DS knows all their names too and he's 22 months.

Everything is Thomas, his tshirts, his dressing gown, his duvet cover, his crockery & cutlery, his bath toys. He never gets bored of watching it. DH and I are on the look out for more DVDs just so we can get a new set of episode. If I have to watch the one about the lost tuba player again, I swear I may put a brick through the tv.

wouldn't change him for the world though. ttc number 2 and would secretly love another boy (but obviously just getting pregnant and having a healthy baby is enough in the real world)

For nice (cheapish) boy clothes try H&M. I also love the brands on the nordickids website but save that for the sales!

Agree with H and M, also TK Maxx for clothes. I got my ds a great set of dark grey cord dungarees from H and M for a few quid that I can't wait to put on a new baby, boy or girl. Zara is also good, but sizes are teeny and prices a bit inflated.

Cool! I'm having a boy this time after my DD, and have already found the clothes section for boys VERY limited. Went to a GAP store the other day and there were loads of stripey pink babygrows for girls and NONE for boys :(

mamalovebird if you're a member of Love Film, there are TONS of Thomas DVD's on their list. However, the lost tuba player did feature on a couple of them, sorry to say.

Erections from 18 months? Nah - from BIRTH! DS loves his penis and cackles with glee whenever he gets his hands on it - he is eight months old. I remember asking DH why he had curtailed DS's nappy-free time at about two months old; DH explained that he was concerned that DS was going to do himself some damage he was tugging so hard.

On the other had, nappies are so much easier to change than on girls.

I have a boy and a girl, and its not at all scientific as evidence but, boys are more simple about their needs but also more simple (and cuddly) about affection. its all a bit basic but there is something very lovely in that.
