Great Western Hospital in Swindon is charging £10 for 4 scan photos.

I think price is way too expensive but it must be a good business for hospital as who wouldn't want to have that memory.

I got my first one free and then any additional copies were chargeable as they had people asking for loads to give to various relatives

think it was about £2 per pic but that was 8 years ago!

JambalayaCodfishDIE · 16/10/2011 16:30

I posted about this unreasonable money maker a few weeks ago.

My hospital charges £4.50 per photo. Angry

figgygal · 16/10/2011 16:33

Yup we were £10 for photos too at the RUH in bath for 12 & 20 wk photos it is cheeky but what u gonna do Sad

MissRee · 16/10/2011 16:33

£5 per photo at ours!!!

sleepyhappymummy · 16/10/2011 16:34

We had to pay for the 20 week scan, never mind the photos! Can't remember how much, but pretty sure not much change from £150!

FessaEst · 16/10/2011 16:36

Our hospital asks for a suggested donation of £2/pic and has a list up in the w/room to say what has been bought with the money - it's all things to help in the dept eg gel warmers & cold water dispenser.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 16/10/2011 16:37

Yes first time round but second time I got them free as I was a guineapig for a MW who was learning to use the scan equipment. She took aaaages and it was really uncomfortable.

FrankNCock · 16/10/2011 16:37

I think 2.5 years ago we paid £2-3 for one picture.

catsareevil · 16/10/2011 16:38

I think I paid £1 or £2 per picture. It seemed reasonable to me.

ASuitableGirl · 16/10/2011 16:39

With DS and DD it suggested you make a donation (which went to some good cause - can't actually remember what though) and I think we paid about £2 for a few photos. Was 8 and 6 years ago though.

BloodandSCRUMatron · 16/10/2011 16:40

Last year I paid £2.50 for 6 photos at UHW in cardiff. That was 12 week scan. Didn't pay for 20 wk ones.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 16/10/2011 16:41

Ours are a fiver each and were shite. The 12 weeks ones were much clearer for some reason, despite my lardy belly.

seaweedhead · 16/10/2011 16:42

Yes £3 per photo. I only paid for one but got two because they weren't very good ones. Baby wouldn't stay still!

Rikalaily · 16/10/2011 16:43

I did with the first 3 then with the 4th they said stopped charging as you paid for the carpark. Not sure if they have started charging again as they have made the carpark free again now.

babyheavingmassofmaggots · 16/10/2011 16:46

I had to pay for mine, yes. I think it was £3.50 per photo.

MerylStrop · 16/10/2011 16:46

I've had 3 kids - suggested donation of £1 or £2 per photo.
IMO it's entirely reasonable to charge for the prints - it's primarily a health check after all, and costs the hospital to print them and the sonographer time to fanny around trying to get a decent angle. And in a world where crazypeople are spending upwards of £150 for 4D scans, it seems pretty good value to me.

EggyAllenPoe · 16/10/2011 16:46

there is a donation pot for sands - recommended donation £1 for pictures - which they are not obliged to give you...

dreamc1 · 16/10/2011 16:47

Crawley hosp are charging £5 per pregnancy, but it's about to change: charging by the foto.

CailinDana · 16/10/2011 16:48

Yup I paid for mine and I did it gladly. I don't see why they should provide them for free, they're not medical treatment are they? I think mine cost about £10. Beat having to pay 60 euros every time I saw the GP in Ireland!! I am in love with the NHS Grin

TeaOneSugar · 16/10/2011 16:50

Sounds fine to me, it isn't an essential part of the scan and the NHS is skint.

MellowBirds · 16/10/2011 16:53

I think about £2 per picture? (Stevenage) I support charging. NHS hospitals provide healthcare for free (at point of delivery) not baby portraits.

Oeisha · 16/10/2011 16:54

Our pics cost £3 each officially, but 12wks we paid £3 for 4 pics and 20wks £10 for 4 pics (no change and we didn't mind!). Stockport PCT controlled depatement.

We would have paid more if asked tbh!

supadupapupascupa · 16/10/2011 16:56

£5 for a strip of photos (got 4 at both 12 and 20 weeks) In lincoln

Sheepasaurus · 16/10/2011 17:00

£10 for one picture at my hospital

pinkytheshrinky · 16/10/2011 17:06

Ours is a donation with no suggestions about how much should be given
