Great Western Hospital in Swindon is charging £10 for 4 scan photos.

I think price is way too expensive but it must be a good business for hospital as who wouldn't want to have that memory.

For £5 we got 4 pics, but then it was twins so the sonographer gave us about 15 pics for the same price. To pay we had to go to the other end of the hospital only to find out the office closes at 4pm - my scan was at 4.15pm! They said we could come back and pay another time - I'm afraid we didn't as carrying twins meant walking was not always easy.

I think it's fair enough to charge that much though and I would have paid if they'd made it possible. Our hospital has some of the most up-to-date equipment in the country - I presume the charges for photos go towards that kind of thing.

we were asked to pay a donation of a couple of pounds for three 'photos. I have already paid for the scan via taxes, and printing out a couple of black and white photos is not expensive soI think this was fair.

they charge £4 a pic at my hospital ,so for both pregnancies i have said no to buying 1 & both times they have given me pics free - the machine seems to produce them automatically, whether you ask for a pic or not, so they only end up in the bin!obviously this relies on the sonographer being nice!

whackamole · 18/10/2011 19:58

There was a notice at our hospital that photos would be charged at £2 each (up from £1 each 3 years earlier).

But they gave us 3 for nothing. Not sure why really - although she did say she wasn't getting a great pic as baby was moving so much, maybe she thought it would be mean to charge for not-so-great pics?

CopperLocs · 20/10/2011 16:02

£3 per pic at my hospital in SW London.

laracroft2001 · 20/10/2011 16:33

£5 per photo where I am in London. But the sonographer liked us and gave us loads to hide in my bag!!

Harrietrose123 · 28/02/2014 17:09

I am pregnant with twins :)
I received 3 different pics, one of each baby on their own and one of them together. 2 copy's of each one. So 6 in total and didn't pay a thing, I asked how much and the lady said they rarely charge

£5 per photo at my hospital, but they usually give you extra. The machine to lay broke last time so the photos were just a donation.

Reported as spam. Zombietastic thread.

PotteringAlong · 08/11/2015 17:07

Yes. £2 per picture and why not? It's a health check not a photo shoot!

purplefizz26 · 08/11/2015 17:11

To those moaning, who do you think should pay for the paper and ink if not the patients wanting scan photos?

Mrsmorton · 08/11/2015 17:13

This thread is 4 years old!

emmac3616 · 08/11/2015 19:24

£5 per photo at Chelsea & Westminster... which seems very reasonable to me a its a health check at the photos are a side benefit rather than an entitlement... the NHS can't afford to pay for some cancer drugs etc. let alone nice to have scan photos - its totally broke!!!

ClareLily101 · 08/11/2015 21:40

£2 each at UCLH

Sighing · 08/11/2015 21:48

£10 at UHCW ... for 1 photo.

amysmummy12345 · 09/11/2015 08:47

Was £3 each at Russells Hall Dudley... Now £5 per photo... Daylight robbery!!

N0Fun · 09/11/2015 09:19

£6 a picture at mine and I got them in a brown envelope, not even in a little card with a window like my I did with my first two !

Jemimapuddleduk · 09/11/2015 09:24

I think it's totally reasonable to charge. At the end of the day the 12 and 20 week scans are there to check for viability and health problems not as a photoshoot for tne baby!

sparechange · 09/11/2015 09:43

Free at Chelsea and Westminster in London

They had a money box on top of the keyboard bit of the scanner, but no one said anything about paying, and it wasn't really in an accessible place to reach anyway

cth1982 · 09/11/2015 10:20

St. Thomas' in London was £2 for a couple of pictures - happy to pay!

SpaggyBollocks · 09/11/2015 10:23

£10 at John Radcliffe in Oxford, but the lovely sonographer always gave them out for free on the sly Grin

TriJo · 09/11/2015 13:47

£2 at the Whittington in north London. 12 week scan pic was free though.

I got mine for free but I would have happily paid. The point of a scan is to check the health of your baby and to rule out serious conditions. Not to sex the fetus or to send you away with photos for your baby book.

I think it's a fantastic way for the hospital to make some money and reinvest it in machinery etc. If you consider it too expensive, do you have any idea how much having a baby costs.
