Great Western Hospital in Swindon is charging £10 for 4 scan photos.

I think price is way too expensive but it must be a good business for hospital as who wouldn't want to have that memory.

£3 per photo here I think (almost 3 years ago). Seems fine to me.

spookshowangellovesit · 16/10/2011 17:31

they were free for my first 3 children but there was a donation pot which we would always donate to because you know you would always be chuffed etc. this time we went and it was 5 pounds for 2 photos but they gave us 3 both at the 12 week and the 20 week scan.
i dont think its wrong they dont have to give you photos per sa. they said to me when i asked that people wouldnt donate and the paper had to come out of the budget etc.

2 per photo at mine. I thought that was fine. For the 12 weeks, we got a few copies, but after that just one. It's an optional extra, not a necessity, so a very good idea to charge.

SazZaVoom · 16/10/2011 18:18

I think it is non-essential and therefore should be chargeable. I think ours were c.£2 per photo and i certainly didn't begrudge paying it.

Gooseysgirl · 16/10/2011 18:19

At Princess Alexandra Hospital, Harlow the charge is £6 per photo which we happily paid. (At both scans we were given an extra photo!)

Tinkerisdead · 16/10/2011 18:21

Leicester general i paid £1 per photo three weeks ago. Although i did end up with an extra photo.

WeLoveHaribo · 16/10/2011 19:02

£4 pic at mine but sonographer gave me both 12 & 20 wk free :)

Keziahhopes · 16/10/2011 20:45

£4 per photo here, with no time spent on getting a nice angle for picture etc. Agree it costs them, no idea how much. Value the photo from each scan.

MrBloomsNursery · 16/10/2011 20:49

Mine was a tenner for 3 pics. But when DH offered the money to the sonographer, she looked shocked and then pointed to a little safe on the shelf and shut the curtain, so she didn't see him put it in....

ChineapplePunk · 16/10/2011 21:29

We made a donation on receiving the pics from the 12 week scan and intend to do the same for the 20 week one. I don't mind doing this as the NHS provide these images as a courtesy and they need all the help they can get. They do such a brilliant job. :)

KirstyJC · 16/10/2011 21:31

We got ours for free as I work for the NHS. Otherwise they asked for a donation of about £3 I think, per picture.

OddBoots · 16/10/2011 21:32

£3 per picture here. You didn't hand money to the sonographer though, there was a vending machine selling picture vouchers (and a sign asking you not to buy until after your scan).

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 16/10/2011 21:37

You are having a medical screening test, not a bloody photo shoot. why the actual bloody hell do you think you shouldn't get charged?

worldgonemad72 · 16/10/2011 21:49

its £6 per pic at the hospital where i live (i dont actually live at the hospital Smile )

SacreLao · 16/10/2011 22:08

I paid £2 per photo at my 12 week scan (last week)

Thought it was quite fair, as others have said they don't have to give you a photo, it's not essential.

I did begrudge the fact I was charged £4 in parking fee's however for a 20 minute appointment but they were running behind so ending up being there waiting a long time and the car park fee went up.

pruney1977 · 16/10/2011 22:10

At Leicester Royal we paid £3 for a photo card which you exchanged for either 3 or 4 photos. However, it says on the machine don't buy a card if you're over 28 weeks so I didn't at my 28 week scan and they gave me the pics for free but they were crap, you couldn't see anything.

cravingcake · 16/10/2011 22:49

Our hospital charges £5 for 4 pictures at 12 & 20 week scans but they always do a couple extra. Agree with others that it is reasonable for them to charge.

MiauMau · 16/10/2011 22:52

£1.50 per picture as a donation (King's College Hospital). I could have just walked away, they looked almost surprised to see me paying it. I don't mind paying it, they are doing a great job.

befuzzled · 16/10/2011 22:54

ours is £5 for all photos for the whole pregnancy which seems reasonable to me. £10 seems too high.

kdiddy · 16/10/2011 23:18

I wondered if we would or not ... but we didn't get charged anything, and the sonographer gave us about 7 pictures. Nowhere to give a donation either - but I would have been happy to pay. Didn't have to pay at 12-weeks either come to think of it, got 1 pic then.

SurprisEs · 16/10/2011 23:21

£5 per photo at my local hospital.

I don't mind paying because scans are a medical procedure and aren't there for recreational or photographic reasons. I like to have a photo but would not expect it for free.

melliebobs · 17/10/2011 08:43

my hospital charges £4 for 1 photo. When we had our scan though we paid for 1 and the person doing the scan printed us 4 different ones. So that was nice. But at the end of the day photos aren't needed, your there for a medical investigation.

LoveInAColdGrave · 17/10/2011 08:45

Ours are £6 each!

Iggly · 17/10/2011 08:46

I don't think they should charge - monographers are not cashiers. Better to have donations instead, less of an admin burden.
