MEGA pains in back. No idea if I'm in labour.

Had some bleeding and some bloody mucus the past few days and now I am having fucking mega pains in my back. About half way up and down to the bottom.

(TMI ALERT) Also had a very, very upset tummy earlier today.

I have no idea if I am in labour or not and apologies if this OP is all over the place as I really can't think straight I'm in that much pain and this is even through Tramadol!

Someone help, please!

you could ring back and say you're really in a LOT of pain, you're due to be induced tomorrow anyway and that you'd really like to be checked cos if you are in labour obviously you won't need that induction

do you need any special treatment while you're in labour?

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:43

It is my first baby. :) And no, Tramadol is a UK thing as well. It's a type of opoid painkiller (don't worry, it's prescribed) quite strong and I think what they give in labour when you're allergic to codeine or pethidene (which I am).

tramadol is a strong painkiller

Interesting, I have a retroverted uterus too. It will have corrected itself by now, but I do think it has an influence over where implantation takes place. IS your placenta on the anterior wall? I've had 2 anterior placentas and 2 back to back babies. Make sure your midwife properly assesses the lie of the baby when you go in. Back to back needn't be harder, my second labour was great, but they do need to encourage you into suitable positions imo

YougreatPamplemousse · 20/09/2011 20:44

OP is back to back. If you have SPD - don't make the pain worse by side stepping!

I was sent home from the delivery suite at 11pm after monitoring and told see you in 2 weeks for induction, I phoned them at 2am saying I think I am in labour they said wait and see, I ignored them and DD was born 2 minutes after arriving at the hospital at 3.10am.

You have other health issues so don't ring just go in if needed.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:47

Fuckity It's in big block letters "no stirrups" on my notes as I have hypermobility and my hips pop out as well! Confused

Yesterday Yeah, if I need an epidural I need a spinal as well as I am insensitive to anasthetics so can't have local either. G+A makes me paranoid and take a bad reaction to codeine. Confused Also need to have my positions watched as my hips could pop out and have to have my veins watched as they're fragile.

BUT! If I go in naturally or just have pessaries I'm priority for the pool. :o

i half want you to go in cos i want you to be in labour, but half want you to stay at home and accidentally have the baby while posting on here to us Grin

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:50

Fuckity Not sure where my placenta is. I know it's at the front?

Pample They really will just send me home though. :( They even said that on the phone. If I can get to 5 mins or hold off until tomorrow I'd prefer that than having to deal with the MAU! They can be pretty good at times but they're normally staffed with SHO's who come up with weird diagnosis. Confused

Yesterday You and everyone else on this thread. Wink :o

OP posts:
fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 20/09/2011 20:53

Yep, I mean the front. I've read babies like to face their placenta. So I would guess, with the backache too, that your baby is indeed back to back. You must let us know how it goes :) My midwife just said 'Respect' to me when I managed to give birth to dd, who was born face up. It's meant to be lucky :)

BonzoDooDah · 20/09/2011 20:54

OOoh good luck Schrodinger! It's all happening. I hope you get the pool.

I didn't and my contractions lasted 6 days - was a bugger - but my hips were too small for fat-headed baby so she was just trying and trying to get a good position. I'd say go in when you can and get them to check you out (Pssst - you can lie about the contractions timings - they often change anyway on entering the hospital as your body goes into a sort of shock if you don't like medical places)
And from my story - please, please don't be too gutted if you don't get the pool and "natural" birth. The main thing is that you and the baby are okay at the end of it all. (Wish someone had emphasised that a bit more to me as I was crying over my C-S consent form - but without it we both wouldn't be here).

Good luck and welcome to the next phase of your life - parenthood! Smile

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:00

Fuckity I occasionally get a weird feeling like I can feel toes dragging across my front, so he probably is facing that way!

Hopefully it is lucky.. :o

BonzoThanks! I originally thought I was being told to have a CS so over that fear now thank God and just want him out safely. :)

I'm going to wait as long as I can as I really really hate hospitals, to the point I've been sent to a psychologist for it (bad previous experience).

However, I've been naughty and sent DP to get me some red wine. Someone told me a glass was good for helping labour!

cheeseandmarmitesandwich · 20/09/2011 21:01

Ooh good luck!

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:03

Cheese I think you got here a bit early this time! I have a feeling this could take a while. :(

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 20/09/2011 21:03

so lie OP. just say they're every 5 minutes. or they were when you left home.

we all know that labour can slow down if you get stressed...

all you want them to do is check you out. honestly there is no rule that yo have to be every 5 mins.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:18

Okay, just been to the loo and have loads of bloody show! Had a sneaky feel with washed hands and have about 2 finger spaces on my cervix? Anyone know how dilated that is?

I was careful not to interfere much, just wanted to check whereabouts I was. :)

OP posts:
thisisyesterday · 20/09/2011 21:19

that'll be about 2cm!
i prescribe sleep if you can. and a baby in the morning

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:21

Sounds good to me! :) Hopefully things will pick up in the night so I don't need induced. :)

Glass of wine for me now! And I will keep updating! There will hopefully be a shnuggly new DS soon!

Wow, it's starting to sink in. :)

BonzoDooDah · 20/09/2011 21:22

Ha Schrodinger - measure your fingers with a ruler!

Am a bit Shock that you can reach your own cervix. I needed a pessary of prostin (?) inserting behind my cervix. They grunted and groaned and I squealed while they tried. They then searched the hospital for the someone with the longest fingers! They came back with a male nurse/midwife who looked like a Massi Warrior (I mean same stature) - VERY long fingers. He managed to get the dam thing in - good man!

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:25

Why Shock that I can reach it? I check it occasionally and my mw didn't even believe I could reach it!

In all fairness I don't have a big bump and am hypermobile so can get in some funny positions. :)

Maybe it's in a funny place. I will admit, not easy to reach but not impossible!

OP posts:
YougreatPamplemousse · 20/09/2011 21:26

A glass of wine is perfect! A bit of relaxing, maybe in a warm bath, clary sage, wine and chocolate if you have it?

YougreatPamplemousse · 20/09/2011 21:27

I could reach mine too - I even offered to help the MW with the prostin with my first and she looked Shock at me.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 21:27

Okay, just done the ruler! Around 2 and a half cm. :)
