MEGA pains in back. No idea if I'm in labour.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 16:38

Had some bleeding and some bloody mucus the past few days and now I am having fucking mega pains in my back. About half way up and down to the bottom.

(TMI ALERT) Also had a very, very upset tummy earlier today.

I have no idea if I am in labour or not and apologies if this OP is all over the place as I really can't think straight I'm in that much pain and this is even through Tramadol!

Someone help, please!

Good luck - SchrodingersMew. Hope you get to use the pool when you get into hospital I found it really helped. Rest if you can, eat a little if you can and little sips of drink. When it gets hard think about your little bundle of lovelyness you'll soon be holding.

thisisyesterday · 20/09/2011 17:59

agree,. if it carries on but is still irregular just call them and say that some/most of your contractions are over a minute long and are coming at least every 5 minutes and you want to be checked over.

alternatively... just turn up and say that!

sleepevader · 20/09/2011 18:08

You go in when you want pain relief even if contractions aren't 5 mins apart

It sounds like back to back labour. Do you feel pressure in bum?

Try resting one leg on stairs when a contraction hits I found this helpful. Also back stretches leaning over ball.

Flisspaps · 20/09/2011 18:13

Best of luck SchroedingersMew, I hope this is it for you! It is worth remembering that for some women the contractions are never regularly spaced. If you want to go in, then go in. I'd imagine if you go in and get your bum on a seat at least, you can try to bagsy the pool rather than waiting until later and some other bugger getting in Wink

wideawakenurse · 20/09/2011 18:55

Yes to going in when you want to - just say they are 5 mins apart.

Does sound back to back to me too, especially as you turn down chocolate. Grin

Flisspaps · 20/09/2011 19:58

SchroedingersMew You are aware it's VVVV rude to start a possible labour thread and then not report back every two minutes or so, don't you Wink Grin

mumt1 · 20/09/2011 20:02

Sooo what's happening?? Good luck!!

CombineArvester · 20/09/2011 20:05

Ooh I've been wondering how you were getting on! I'm really hoping you are in labour and it doesn't hurt too much

Good luck

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:30

Hi everyone. :) Had a lie down and sniffed clary sage like no tomorrow and they seem to have got more irregular! Arghhh going crazy here!

I have been tweaking my nipples for the past hour or so and actually have half a cup of colostrum to show for it!

It does still hurt really bad. :( If I am still contracting tomorrow at my appointment they wont bother with the sweep and will just induce me there and then and I promise I will update as it goes along!

Anyone have any tips to pick it back up again? About to go on the ball but have loads of pressure on my bum (think someone mentioned that before) and feel like I need to poo every 2 mins. Blush

Have started getting some cramps round the front though every now and again.

Sorry about the wait! I hate watching labour threads when the OP disappears so I apologise. Wink :o

CombineArvester It hurts a lot!

YougreatPamplemousse · 20/09/2011 20:32

That constant needing to poo feeling is the baby's head moving and pressing down. I found sideways stepping up and down the stairs helped ease it. If it still hurts a lot and you are getting no relief it won't hurt to pop down and get them to check you - things may be happening without regular contractions.

CombineArvester · 20/09/2011 20:33

Just a bit of a warning - I would rest NOW because some of these stop-start labours, once they start again properly, go really really quickly, for all you know you could be 4cm now! My last labour started with the odd contraction every now and again, then a break then they were every 2 sodding minutes. Have you got a rocking chair? Can be comfy whilst still keeping things going if that's what you want to do.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 20/09/2011 20:36

I know it hurts but if i were you I'd think if I really did want an induction. I have had 2 OP babies and the induced one was terrible. With an induction you're far more likely to end up on your back with an epidural, and dd didn;t turn, I was literally minutes away from forceps when I think blind panic took over and I got her out. My second OP baby was also overdue but a sweep definately got things started, and the fact I was able to stand and move made the whole thing much easier. Is it confirmed your baby is OP? NO amount of srcubbing floors or leaning onthe ball got either of mine to turn, my second turned just before the second stage. I think some of us just have wonky pelvises that encourage the OP lie. Try and get as much sleep as possible (yeah, I know...) and maybe try another bath? Clary sage did sweet fa for me in labour, but I did use a few drops in my bath immediately before labour began properly, so you never know :)

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:36

Yougreat I was thinking of trying that anyway! Guess I will try, can't walk very well atm but if I go slow. :) If it gets worse I will phone and demand to go back as rapid labours run in my family and I have hypermobility... Yet she still told me to wait until 5 mins regular!

Combine I think I will rest some more, really scared of a random rapid labour. :/

And I do have a rocking chair! Well a reclining gliding chair. :o I got it as a present and haven't used it much guess now is the time!

ahh you think this pain is bad! Wink

it sounds stupid but the best thing anyone said to me before I had ds2 (i was asking for advice on getting through contractions) was to remember that it will end.
The pain gets so, so, so intense on every contraction but you know that each contraction will end. Take them one at a time and get through them as best you can.

if it gets more intense though do go in! irregular does not mean that things aren't happening down there.
if you go in they can at least check and see how dilated you are. the worst that will happen is they'll send you home again.
best outcome is you find that you're well on your way and get to stay and have a baby!
don't be afraid to be pushy, or get your dh/dp to be pushy for you

CombineArvester · 20/09/2011 20:39

Excellent! Rocking chair helps you get into a nice rhythm of breathing too.

Sorry it's hurting. Bloody kids Grin

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:39

What does OP mean? Confused And I really need to be induced for medical reasons (for me, not the baby). He could do some damage if left much longer and I've had a lot of health problems this pg. (heart rate, BP, protein, severe spd among others).

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 20/09/2011 20:40

I think the rule is that once you've phoned 3 times they have to let you come in to be examined. Good luck!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 20/09/2011 20:40

Sorry, OP means back to back.

thisisyesterday · 20/09/2011 20:40

OP means back to back.

SchrodingersMew · 20/09/2011 20:41

Yesterday I will go in soon if it gets any more painful, I mean this is through tramadol! And I know it will get worse as well but I'm just thinking what you are saying... It will end! :)

And I have a retroverted uterus, could this be something to do with the back pain?

OP posts:
NonnoMum · 20/09/2011 20:41

Is this your first baby? If you have a history of rapid labours, please go in (but keep us updated!!)

Upset tummy is a sure sign of things kicking off!

Woo hoo!

NonnoMum · 20/09/2011 20:41

What is tramadol? Is it a US thing?

bigmacandhappymeal · 20/09/2011 20:42

Good luck schrodingersmew!

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 20/09/2011 20:42

Also, if you have SPD make sure, if you tell them anything, tell them this. Make sure you legs aren't put in stirrups. I was put in stirrups when I was still under epidural so couldn't feel the pain, but oh my, when it wore off it took months to get over the pain. Good luck :)
