Hi ladies. I have been sniffing around the conception threads, but I thought I would come here in the hope of hearing some happy success stories. I have been TTC since January (to no avail!) My consultant has told me with my irregular periods (can be anything from a 6 -9 week cycle) that it will difficult for me to conceive (no shit sherlock!!) ... anyway just felt a bit down in the dumps this week and need to hear some positive happy endings :)

@Maiden010 Hi, my last AF was March 17th and my periods were v irregular too, anywhere from 30-38. I am 4+6 weeks PG but I only know that because I know the date I ovulated, I was using CB OPKs.

I get mild cramps sometimes, like a stretching feeling low down. Tender boobs, they feel full. Hurts a bit when I take bra off. Used to feel nauseous but that seems to have gone...for now. I think if you are feeling mild cramps that's just part and parcel but if your cramps are intense, you might want to check that out.

I had irregular periods. It was because of PCOS. Once I lost weight and went on Metformin they became as regular as clockwork. But that still didn’t mean I was ovulating every month. All the OPKs suggested I was but it was only after referal to an IVF clinic that I understood I couldn’t ovulate naturally due to cysts. There I was also diagnosed with several things that impacted implantation and I eventually got my BFP.

My consultant at the time said never to take irregular periods lightly. They are only considered normal if you have had investigations done.

Hi Ladies,

I have been reading all of these forums like crazy for the last 4 months, and have spend ££££ on pregnancy and ovulation tests. Just found out TODAY that I'm finally pregnant!

Let me allay some fears for those of you in similar situations:

I have VERY irregular cycles.

Not only does that make pinpointing "ovulation dates" VERY hard, but ovulation tests also didn't seem to work for me.

What I can recommend, is using free app, P Tracker. I have used this to track many of my periods, and instead of relying on when it tells you your ovulation dates are, have a look at what the EARLIEST possible date for you COULD be, as well as the latest.

So for me, it was almost a 3 week window of potential ovulation. So during this 3 weeks, we tried to get pregnant a lot, and it worked.

What I also did was take a pregnancy vitamin for the last 3 months, and also try to have sex in positions that didn't work against gravity ;)

I also, when possible, tried to stay lying flat for at least 15 mins afterwards, if not overnight!

It is really hard to pinpoint ovulation when your periods are irregular. And the frustrating thing, is that almost EVERYTHING you google says "x number of days before your period is due, or x number of days after your period is due). This is a nightmare for us ladies with irregular periods, because you can have NO IDEA when it is due.

So, like I said, take some action to at least pinpoint your ovulation to a couple of weeks, so you don't have to spend each whole month wondering and second guessing.

I used a pregnancy test 10 days after when I believe conception actually occured, and it came back negative (this was about 5 days ago).

Last night, I was so consumed by it (but the stores had closed for the night) that I decided to do a DIY pregnancy test at home with BLEACH. I got a glass jar, tipped about two fingers deep of bleach (lemon bleach actually!) and the same amount of urine, put the lid on and swirled it to mix (don't shake) and it bubbled and got almost an inch of foam on the top. This indicates a positive result. So this morning, I got up early and got an early detection test, and it was POSITIVE!

This is our first child and I'm so excited!

FINALLY! I'm 33, irregular periods, and it took 5 months.

Today is 15 days after unprotected sex, and day 36 of my cycle.

Hope this helps and gives hope to others! Also, up until the test shows positive, really try not to look too deep into early pregnancy symptoms, they are the same as PMS. When the symptoms start to develop, it will show on a pregnancy test at that time. So try not to drive yourself crazy.

Hang in there, I was starting to get verrrrry depressed about it not happening.

Good luck ladies xxx

Are you still here?

Hi I've always had irregular periods - most cycles are between 50- 75 days but have been longer. When I told doctors in the past they've always said not to worry until you're trying to have a baby. I stopped using contraception for the first time last month and I'm 4 weeks pregnant! So goodluck! Our irregular cycles don't mean we aren't able to conceive! I do highly recommend natural cycles though to find out when you are ovulating as this is the main difficulty with getting pregnant with irregular periods.

I had irregular periods since...... forever! At 17, I was diagnosed with PCOS based on my hormone results (hugely off balance) and was told I would struggle to conceive and may never manage it - I was only having 1 period a year roughly. Went for a scan of my ovaries which came back clear which complicated the PCOS diagnosis but the fertility issue still stood. I went on the pill as a 'just in case' thing from 17+ and came off it at 21 as found it was affecting my moods. I practised 'natural birth control' to prevent getting pregnant instead of using the pill as I had been told the likelihood of me conceiving was slim anyway. My periods were still irregular at this point - maybe 3 or 4 a year. Anyway, I fell pregnant at 23 and was devastated! I had made my peace with not having children and suddenly it happened. She's now 4 and amazing. My periods also became like clockwork after having her. I'm now pregnant with no2 (on purpose!!) and conceived first month of trying. Don't give up hope!!! xxx
