Hi ladies. I have been sniffing around the conception threads, but I thought I would come here in the hope of hearing some happy success stories. I have been TTC since January (to no avail!) My consultant has told me with my irregular periods (can be anything from a 6 -9 week cycle) that it will difficult for me to conceive (no shit sherlock!!) ... anyway just felt a bit down in the dumps this week and need to hear some positive happy endings :)

OP did you manage to get pregnant in the end?

Really hope so. I had irregular periods (looong cycles too) and was found to have a bit of pcos. I swear I got pregnant the first time the week after my period which isn't really supposed to be when ovulation is! Anyway I'm preg with DC2 now, although it did take the best part of a year (and typically was a month where we weren't trying too hard as I didn't want to be in hospital on Christmas Day!Grin)

CalypsoLilt · 07/07/2015 15:25

My luteal phase was too short for conception but I had acupuncture and increased my cycle length from 21 days to 26 over a year :)

I also recommend the book Taking Control of your Fertility - Toni Weschler

tinyme135 · 07/07/2015 15:45

My periods are that irregular I was told by the docs I'd never get pregnant naturally and here I am 13+2 naturally :D

WombOfOnesOwn · 07/07/2015 20:53

Inositol regularized my periods, which had been VERY irregular before then. 6 months later, BFP.

Pugmumlondon · 07/07/2015 21:37

I'm nearly 12w - first pregnancy. I've been on the Mirena for nearly ten years, before that hugely irregular and awful periods - months long, haemorrhaging, clots etc. diagnosed with pcos while at uni.

Came off the Mirena in early February. One period in March. No period in April and BFP in May. Shocked isn't in it. Due end of jan. At my scan at ten weeks the sonographer asked if it was ivf given the extent of my pcos. So far it's my miracle baby, hoping this continues!

So - don't give up. It may take a while or you may get lucky but it is possible. Even when they say it'll be hard.

Best of luck xx

Just thought I would share my story to give you some hope.
I was only 18 when I started ttc I came off the pill and had very irregular periods anything from 34-114 days! I got diagnosed with pcos and the after not being able to know when/if I ovulated I was put on clomid. I tried this for 3 cycles but still no luck and nothing to say I had ovulated. They doctor (he was not very good!) told me I could have ivf and there was no reason to see him again I would get a letter about ivf. Then I found out off the internet I couldn't get it until I was 23 (another 3 years from seeing him!!) that felt like a lifetime and everyone kept telling me it will happen just don't think about it..easier said than done when all I wanted was a family I cried most night and just wanted 3 years to disappear so I was 23. At 21 I bought a house that needed doing up and booked our last baby free holiday to a water park! I was very busy doing house things and planning for the holiday I was not even thinking about periods and my bf told me to go to docs as boobs were VERY sore....I was 8 weeks pregnant!!!
So after 4 years and all the tears I had it had just happened naturally when I was thinking about everything apart from babies!!
So even though people say don't think about it and you can't not...I say try to do other things to take your mind off and it may happen! I now have an 11 month old daughter and it has made her even more special because I know how lucky I am to have had her! :)

BexusSugarush · 19/08/2015 08:36

I know you've had alot of responses already but mine is another success story that I'm happy to share.

My cycle was anywhere from 6-10 weeks after I came off the contraceptive pill, and as soon as I started trying to conceive I was taking pregnancy tests at every 9 week point, then kicking myself when I still hadn't come on a week later. It was torture. However, it only took me 4 cycles to get pregnant; I was very lucky.

While it's inconvenient to have such irregular cycles while trying to conceive, I did only have 1 period for everyone else's two.. silver linings..

Gooseberrycrumble2 · 19/08/2015 08:40

You'll possibly just need some clomid. A drug that comes in the form of a pill

DellaDoolittle · 19/08/2015 08:48

I have about 3 periods a year. Dc1 was a (happy) surprise, dc2 took about 2 years to conceive and dc3 was conceived in first month of trying. No rhyme or reason to any of it for me.

tinyme135 · 19/08/2015 11:21

I have next to none periods and I got caught after 6 months of trying. just went for 20 weeks scan and I have a healthy baby boy coming :)

TriJo · 19/08/2015 14:46

I always had a relatively long and somewhat irregular cycle before going on the pill - generally 35-45 days. Came off it to TTC in April, had one period in May, am now 9+1...

Hey! This thread is the reason I have just joined mums net. Im 23 and haven’t had consistent periods probably for just over two and half years now - i could count the amount i have had on one hand!
Anyway I’ve recently returned home from working abroad and decided to get it looked into turns out i probably have Polycystic ovary syndrome.
Anyway id been feeling sick for the last week or so, so completely un-suspectfully did a pregnancy test to find it was positive. I freaked out went to the doctor and had it confirmed now my ultrasound that was scheduled to see if i was infertile for next week will now be my first baby scan to try and date how far along i am!! My boyfriend and i are Very shocked but completely over the moon. I feel there are so many stories of people who are told they can’t conceive and then a miracle happens. Don’t give up hope!!

louiseplusditi · 25/09/2016 20:35

Not sure if anyone posts here anymore...but here's my story!

I am a bigger girl & when i was younger I always had irregular periods & a lot of problems, I once had a period for 3 months!
I went on the mini pill and tried the coil and it seemed to ALMOST make them regular...but at about 18-20 years old I was told I had polycystic oavaries and it was game over for me so to not think about kids!
Since then I tried to tell myself I didn't want kids anyway but deep down I did.
Getting into relationships was hard because I was always worried that if it had worked out then how would I tell him I couldn't have kids?
I continually had problems & met a guy about 18 months ago & have been in a relationship for a year...he's not English and his traditions are to have big families so I was worried! I really felt incredibly different about this guy and I really did want kids!
I am now currently 21 weeks pregnant!!! It was a complete shock and I sometimes don't believe my luck and worry an awful lot they something will go wrong!

Never give up, keep your thoughts positive, never loose hope, relax and don't stress...most importantly practice practice practice ;-)

I wouldn't say my periods were irregular...they actually completely stopped for a year whilst we were TTC! I underwent every test known to man and they couldn't for the life of them find out why...we were told at and appointment on 26th July that natural conception (without fertility drugs/IVF) was completely out of the question - 2 weeks later I found out I was already 6 weeks pregnant!! All you need is 1 egg! 😉

littlefrenchonion · 28/09/2016 22:30

Me! I have one... two in fact!

I have (had?) PCOS - GP advised losing weight can make a huge difference to fertility in PCOS.

Anyway, DC1 I feel was a fluke (first time), I was still overweight at this point and periods were about 62d at longest cycle. Totally surprised and humbled, especially when the sonographer at first scan took great delight in showing me my cyst riddled ovaries.

Had pre-eclampsia with DC1 which really gave me a wake up call re. weight. Lost 3.5 stone with great difficulty and got BMI under control to 24. Stopped breastfeeding around this time and periods came back every 28d.

Decided to try for DC2, got BFP first time round again. Interestingly, at the scan we have just had, not a single cyst!

Good luck OP, I hope you get lucky soon Smile

MarmiteMama · 06/10/2016 11:03

We began trying for a second baby in May. My period didn't arrive on time in July. Initial excitement turned to disappointment and worry as I got BFN after BFN and still my period wouldn't come. By mid September I still hadn't had a period and asked my GP to do blood tests to check my hormone levels. Two weeks later, I've just got a strong BFP 2-3 weeks after conception. After no periods since July! I'm ecstatic Smile and it just goes to prove that irregular (or no) periods don't necessarily mean you can't conceive!

charlybs · 09/10/2016 21:06

Irregular periods & PCOS here - tried before our wedding and no luck.

Started trying again afterwards - and it must have happened first time. Ovulation kits never worked and we both thought it'd take ages so were totally shocked! Now I'm 18 weeks pregnant x

IDontLookMyAge76 · 23/10/2016 23:53

Hey,

I've always had irregular periods and finally got diagnosed with PCOS last year. I'd gotten pregnant bout 7 years ago but had an abortion which didn't go well (mix up re antibiotics and other aspects of after care) and was scared this was also contributing to us not getting pregnant, we'd been TTC for bout 4 years.

I track my periods on an app n we were reacting to ovulation signs, i am slightly overweight but only by about 5kg or so, exercise regularly n eat a vegan diet, id also been refused Metformin so was feeling pretty hopeless since we were doing everything 'right' cept for me actually ovulating regularly.

Long story short, finally got pregnant which was a total surprise since I had other priorities the month we actually conceived and had been partying pretty hard (I've just finished a degree).

We're 13 weeks and 1 day today and if all goes well, baby arrives in May 😊

Scotmum83 · 24/10/2016 17:18

I have two successes with very irregular periods. I had been on the pill since I was 17 and came off it when I was 29, periods were months apart not weeks longest was 8 months. Had one period after that then got pregnant, took 18 months to conceive my first baby. This time round and after realising I have PCOS I made some changes to my diet and exercise and got three periods with a 5/6 week cycle in a row. I also used a period tracker to keep track of any ovulation symptoms and then tried our best to dtd every other day to make sure there were sperm about when I did ovulate. Worked on the third month and I'm now 14 weeks with our 2nd baby.

If you have PCOS there's lots you can do to regulate your periods.

wineapotamus · 24/10/2016 18:49

I'm sure this has been suggested but I went for 6 months of acupuncture. Regulated my erratic periods to a window of 28-32 days. Now 20 weeks pg. Good luck op. Smile

SugarMiceInTheRain · 24/10/2016 18:55

Not read the whole thread. My cycles range from 28 - 90+ days, got pregnant using Clomid with DS1 (had 5 days of Norethisterone to kick start bleeding to begin with). Managed to get pregnant with DS2 just over a year after having DS1, before my periods had even come back. 6 years later after several unsuccessful cycles of increasing doses of Clomid, which didn't even succeed in making me ovulate for some reason, and me deciding to give up and stick at 2, DD was conceived naturally! Grin Took 2 years after her birth for periods to come back, but annoyingly they're more frequent now than they used to be, and I am definitely finished having kids!
