Hi ladies. I have been sniffing around the conception threads, but I thought I would come here in the hope of hearing some happy success stories. I have been TTC since January (to no avail!) My consultant has told me with my irregular periods (can be anything from a 6 -9 week cycle) that it will difficult for me to conceive (no shit sherlock!!) ... anyway just felt a bit down in the dumps this week and need to hear some positive happy endings :)

I use would have periods that would last weeks then nothing I fell pregnant very quick with my Ds was a bit of a surprise as I was told because I had endometriosis I would find it hard to conceive second Ds exactly same took about two months not actively trying but nice little surprise considering I hadn't had a period for two months but had been on for three months before that.

wawabear · 30/09/2014 15:08

I've had wildly irregular periods all my life and had a BFP on literally the first time without protection!

EvilEmperorZurg · 30/09/2014 15:18

I did - long long cycles (39+ days). Had tests, tried clomid. No good. Got pregnant but had a mc then got pregnant that lasted (ds), ironically my periods ever since ds's birth have been 28 days almost exactly.....unfair! (oh yes I was using OPK's for months but never got a positive positive, the month I conceived I got a very positive positive - making me realise just how un-positive the previous vaguely positive ones were, dtd and conceived that very night!)

I used to have really irregular periods (nothing at all for a couple of years at one point). It turned out that although my BMI seemed fine, I wasn't carrying the right amount of body fat (too much muscle from my hobby which was skewing the figures). I upped my weight by half a stone and ended up with totally regular 4 weekly periods, lasting 4 days each. I know of people who've needed to lose weight also to regulate their periods. Our bodies can be very fussy! I now have one DS and a DD on the way.

Has anyone gotten pregnant on a 48 day cycle?
Was on depo for 2 years, came off and my periods were all over the place. Now for the last 3 months I've been having regular periods, only thing is that my cycle is 48 days long..... I'm trying to conceive but no luck yet, doc said im ok. I'm still worried....
Any experiences with geting pregnant on a long cycle, or after depo?
experiences and advice welcomed. :-)

My cycle after DD was anywhere from 21 to 54 days (marked on calendar). After a year of this I used an all singing, all dancing ovulation monitor which could actually tell me when to ttc!

DC2 due in March Grin

(Clear blue fertility monitor, measures 2 different hormones. Expensive but works!)

Irregular since a teenager. Diagnosed with PCOS. Came off pill in April and had no period for 3 months. Then sporadic and light (not really proper periods). No regularity at all. Ended up conceiving in September. My advice is DTD every 2-3days, throughout your cycle (Except during AF obviously). Don't try and guess when you are ovulating as you could at anytime. So just try to maximise chances that you catch it when you do! Every 2-3 days should be fine. Unless you want to do it more (we didn't!!)

Allstoppedup · 26/01/2015 22:15

Was diagnosed with PCOS about 8 years ago after having an ovarian cysts rupture. I've always had an irregular cycle but for the past 4 years I've had 2 periods a year maximum (occasionally none!)

I was told I would need assistance to conceive so DP and I after a year decided to not bother with back up contraception as there was no need. After 3 years of unprotected sex DS1 sneaked in there and is now 13 months!

We decided to actively TTC again knowing it could take a while as I'm still BFing DS and as of yet haven't had any periods in the past 6 months. As we didn't know when I ovulate, DP and I just try to DTD every day (or every other day!)

We officially decided to TTC just before Xmas and today I got my faint but there BFP! Praying for a sticky bean now!

I'm shocked it's happened so quick but I hope this gives some hope to others as it shows you don't have to be having periods to get pregnant! Grin

Good luck everyone trying!

I am expecting DC3 in June and have 2 DDs, a 2 year old and a nearly 4 year old. I have always been a bit irregular with periods and this was even worse after DD1 was born. Was between 4 to 6 weeks between each period and sometimes would miss whole months altogether. Never worried about conceiving as have known people the same who have had no problems. I didn't use any ovulation sticks or anything but they might help you.

carrie1008 · 30/01/2015 10:06

We are 7 months in TTC after I had a MMC last Jan. Been tracking my cycle since Oct and using an ovulation kit. Ovulated all but 1 month but no luck yet. My cycle seems to be an avg of 26 days but can be 21-28 days. Drs appt now booked for mid-Feb and I think we'll try the lots of sex all the time method in the meantime. I'm just not too sure if the Dr will refer me, or if there is anything they can do to help...I'm 36 and don't want to delay any more than necessary

shimmysparkles · 30/01/2015 10:49

I have PCOS and was always told I'd have difficulty conceiving. Periods were always all over the place with as much as 8 months between them. Spent many years on the pill after being told I needed to have at least 4 periods a year or be at serious risk of health issues. We started TTC in October 2013. Fell pregnant in May 2014!!! Still with irregular periods. We tried to have sex every other day but to be honest life gets in the way! I was starting to chart my temperatures at the time as wasn't sure I was ovulating and had made appt with GP to investigate this! I think for me what helped was a combination of alternative therapies- reflexology, homeopathy and eating slightly better (!).

Currently we are 36 weeks and very excited about meeting our imminent arrival!

I've had weird irregular periods my whole life, anything from 21 days to 38 days apart, we just dtd every other night but not consciously trying, just enjoying it & not using any protection, I conceived this month, ttc since August last year, I have a long cycle & ovulate on day 18/19 usually x

mum2benicole · 31/01/2015 20:41

Im 23 with A Daughter 17 months old and 25 weeks pregnant with our son. I have a history of endometriosis which ment from the age of 14 my periods were everywhere I could have nothing for months then bleed for months o end, I was told that after MC I would be lucky to become a parent. After a long time trying found outing was pregnant with our 1st which was such a shock, she came out healthy 6.13oz and now pregnant with 2nd (which we thought would take a while to happen but took 2 weeks) big shocker.
Some times it takes a long time others not long.
Good luck im sure it will happen xx

purplebiro · 02/02/2015 17:03

Same as many on here - had irregular periods my entire life, 30-90ish days - also a bit flaky on the contraception (sorry, mum) but never had a scare so was convinced I had major fertility issues. We started trying in May with a half hearted "well, let's get the 12 months started and then we can go back to the doctor to start fertility treatment" attitude. Conceived in September, due in June.

Only major issue I faced was that I didn't realise I was preggo until about 9 weeks in because I don't pay attention to missed periods!

Michekebab · 05/05/2015 16:49

Hi, feeling a little sorry for myself today! After having 2 children very easily, I am baffled as to why it's so difficult this time! My periods stopped for 12 months after we started trying for another baby almost 2 years ago, blood tests have showed up pcos and underactive thyroid. Medication is helping to regulate my periods but I still miss the odd one. Not getting much support from my GP as I already have children, and I do realise there are people in worse situations, just wondered if anyone else can offer any advice on my situation? Xxx

rhnireland · 05/05/2015 17:11

I have PCOS and this was seen as the cause of my very irregular cycle so after a year of trying and taking metformin I went to see a gynaecologist who took one look at my blood work and said you won't get pregnant with those thyroid levels. She suggested I get it checked and that I come back in early Jan to start hormone medication to regulate my cycle with a view to IVF

I then got my thyroid thoroughly checked out and they found I had a borderline issue but prescribed a low dosage of medication, 7 weeks later I conceived. So I went back to my Dr in January and she expected me to be there to get fertility treatment and instead she confirmed my pregnancy. (As I sobbed because I couldn't believe it had actually happened!)

I would say anyone who has PCOS should get their thyroids checked as it's apparently a relatively common thing to have both and low thyroid function can lead to miscarriage.

I'm now 22 weeks pregnant with the most planned surprise baby ever!

Allstoppedup · 05/05/2015 17:21

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 7 years ago and told due to ovarian scarring from a ruptured cyst I wouldn't be able to conceive naturally.

I used to have irregular but heavy painful periods but shortly after the cyst rupture they stopped almost completely. (Maybe one or two small ones a year)

I hadn't had a single period a year before I (rather surprisingly conceived my DS). He was obviously an unexpected but wonderful surprise baby. Hes still BF ing and I was still unsure of my fertility given that I still haven't had a period since his birth (bar any post birth bleeding), DP and I decided to start trying for our second when DS was 12 months old and I got pregnant the first month, like I say that is despite being period-less and demand feeding my toddler still. I'm 18 weeks along now.Grin

Good luck! Flowers

Michekebab · 05/05/2015 18:13

Thank you, certainly does make me feel better hearing success stories xx
