collie my mum had pethadine when she had me-they didn't ask her, they just did it Shock things were diferent back then.... Anyway she managed to breast feed me no probs. The thing playing on my mind is my total fear of an instrumental delivery and also really wanting a natural 3rd stage so plan a) is just gas and air but I'm staying open minded and have promised myself not to beat myself up if I end up having one of each drug on offer!!!

dooscooby · 12/09/2011 12:42

Hi everyone
Thanks for confirming I'm not the only mouth puker around here - ugh! Feeling soo exhausted today, I had a really early night as I just wanted to go to bed early so I went with it, then was awake from 2-5am and now I feel like turd...grr. collie i've been thinking of getting a mattress topper also, although I wondered if that would mean my fitted sheets won't fit anymore?

Good to hear about peoples positive nct experiences - I'm still undecided about mine and think I'm going to plump to try some new classes running in my area by Lazy Daisy Birthing - it's cheaper and more flexible and the dates seems to suit me better than the nct ones, plus the teacher is due the same week as me, so that might be quite fun!

All the mat leave chat has got my thinking that I've got AGES still to go - gonna work up to 38 weeks because I won't have a job to return to as my contract expires during mat leave and also because I only work 4 days a week I figured I should be able to cope. Feel ready to give up and wind down already though - oh dear!

cep · 12/09/2011 15:10

velvet certainly wouldn't think any less of you. You don't know how you feel until you get there. i'm off from about 35 weeks, i'm tired as it is now.

sorry not replying to everyone, just can't concentrate at the moment.

harassedandherbug · 12/09/2011 18:00

Hello from the sofa!!!

Dh was rained/blown off today (he's a roofer) so after the crap way I was treated at work, and being up all night fretting over lack of movements I phoned in sick. Had a check with mw and she says they don't expect a pattern in movements until 28wks..... I thought it was earlier?? Anyway,Bug has had a def pattern and it all stopped and then started but totally differently. I'd love to be able to peek in and see what he's up to!

wombat huuuuge congratulations lovely!!! Enjoy your family xx

velvet in light of my sickie today, you have to do what's right for you. I have gp next week and am hoping he'll sign me off for a week or two, or I can get a fit to work type not that might just focus my employer on treating me properly! If a week sick is going to help you, then you should take it.

doo that's how I feel. My boss has been awful to me since I told him I was preg, and even worse now I'm on crutches. I just want out tbh!! Work doesn't feel so important now, family does.

collie I had pethidine with ds1 & 2, and bf both of them with no problems at all. Both were long labours though, so maybe the drowsiness had worn off! It def helped, and allowed me to get some sleep during both my labours. I just had g&a with dd, but if I get my homebirth this time then we can request pethidine but have to get a prescription from gp. But I'll def get it just in case!

laylas my friend had mild OC right at the end and she was advised to give up choc and carbs...... this was only a few days before her cs though.

Has anybody thought about hypnobirthing???

CollieandPup · 12/09/2011 19:00

Thanks everyone for your drugs feedback!! I can't actually believe some your parents, let alone you, have been given it without being told the effects!!! Shock. You're right pink I think the best approach is to aim for gas and air but be relaxed if it doesn't go to plan but at the moment I think I'm still in the niave idealistic world! Need to also decided which is the best option of the 2 for me to opt for if I crumble!!

harassed sorry bug has been giving you worries! I'm not really sure pup has a pattern even now, apart not being able to keep still!!!! Sorry about your crappy boss too! Don't blame you for having a day off!

One of the couples didn't turn up to the NCT class on Saturday probably scared off by preaching breastfeeding counsellor! but they were considering hypnobirthing, and I think yrmotb had a book on it at our northern meet up. But I must confess I don't really know much about it. ???? Can you suggest a good website?... I'm too tired bone idle to look!! Smile

cep · 12/09/2011 21:19

may i ask a question ladies, for those of you who have written a birhtplan, what and how much have you actually written. I wrote one last time but it was left in the car.

harassedandherbug · 12/09/2011 21:43

I did bullet points/short sentences last time.

For instance I didn't want epidural, so just wrote no epidural
What pain relief you do want.
Do you want music, candles anything like that
How you prefer to labour - mobile, water
How you hope to deliver - kneeling, water etc
If you want baby delivered onto you, or cleaned
If dh wants to cut the cord
If you want to be told the sex (if you don't know!) or discover yourself
If you want to bf.

Umm can't think of anything else....

PinkFondantFancy · 12/09/2011 22:16

harassed sorry bug was scaring you, glad it's all ok though. It's harder to focus on work once you're diffed isn't it. It's like you've got bigger priorities now. I though about hyonobirthing but it's super expensive. I got an 'effective birth preparation' self hypnosis cd but obviously have no idea whether it's helpful on the day or not.

CEP I could post mine on here tomorrow if you want? I've done bullets and headings. It's massively cadged off others I've seen on here.

daisy you ok lovely?

Freezingmyarseoff · 12/09/2011 23:03

Huge congrats to Wombat. Lovely news Grin.
I am completely shattered today so sorry for not catching up properly. Also we going away for a week in Scotland from wed tomorrow will be spent trying to wash & pack for everyone whilst trying to stay awake. Can someone put a link to the new thread when this one is nearing the end because I'm sure it will be needed before I get back Grin

PinkFondantFancy · 13/09/2011 08:45

How to scare Homebase customer service assistants: "Hello, I'm looking for some plastic sheeting" "What are you planning on using it for, as there are lots of different types" "Well, it's in case I decide to have a homebirth....." hahahahahahahahaha was soooo funny seeing the poor girl's face! Grin

milkyways · 13/09/2011 10:17

Congratulations wombat!! Glad the induction went well!

Sorry I'm being awful at catching up, DD has been ill the past few days and I'm in the middle of getting the house de-cluttered for our big paint in a few weeks time.

My lower abdomen problem seems to be getting worse - When I'm sitting down/resting is the only time it doesn't hurt, which is a bit annoying! I will ask my MW about this today - I am sure you can get support belts or something.

pink Grin I would have loved to have seen her face!!

Hope everyone is well!

Daisybell1 · 13/09/2011 11:53

Hello all!

How are you all? Thank you so much for listening to my wibble, I'm feeling much better. If someone without baby brain could update the list then I would be very grateful (maths is never my strong point, especially not now!)

So glad to hear about other people digging out baby stuff - Tunnocks your little lad sounds fabulous!

Izzy Now come on, you know you can't mention the word pushchair without giving details Grin

Blackkat and Collie I shall carry on posting here if you'll have me - I may even donate the spare prams for people's use!

Velvet you are certainly not being pathetic! I planned to go off at 34 weeks but had to stay for another one, and really struggled. My MW offered to sign me off early if I wanted - don't feel bad, there is absolutely no point working yourself to the point of exhaustion!

Collie re the pethadine chat - my unit have started using meptid. Its still an opiate, but it doesn't sedate baby so much so they're happier using it throughout the labour - may be worth a thought. I got the impression from my ante-natal classes that pure pethadine was a bit out-dated (although, my friend had it and yes, her DS didn't feed brilliantly at the start, but after a 3 day Shock early labour it gave her the chance to sleep so she had some energy for pushing him out).

Freezing have a lovely holiday - I really hope you enjoy it!

Grin at Pinks homebase experience - I'm enjoying watching people leap backwards when they ask how long I've got to go and I say tomorrow/today - great fun Grin

Sounds like you need to relax a bit Milky but I know that's easier said than done....

Still no sign of Daisybean at all, have got a week of stuff planned, including the World Sheepdog Trials (how many sheepdog midwives does one girl need?) and a hair appointment on Saturday - I would like her to ruin my plans by arriving but I suspect she won't....

PinkFondantFancy · 13/09/2011 11:59

Here's my birth plan. I need to talk to the MW about the instrumental delivery bit to see what she thinks. Much credit needs to go to coconuts for this plan as it has mainly been stolen off one of her threads Grin

BIRTH PREFERENCES

I would prefer to be involved in decision making before any drugs are administered or procedures undertaken. If I am unable to be consulted (for whatever reason) DH and IM should be consulted instead

COMPANIONS
IM and DH to be present at all times
No student midwives please

LABOUR
Water-birth preferred
I wish to remain mobile as much as possible
Strongly wish to avoid ventouse and forcep delivery would prefer C-section where possible if there is an urgent need for intervention
Under no circumstances are Kielland?s forceps to be used. If intervention is required whilst the baby is in the upper part of the birth canal then I would like a C-section to be preformed

PAIN RELIEF
Open-minded but wish to try with just breathing/relaxation/water as far as possible

DELIVERY
Baby to be delivered straight onto my tummy
DH to announce the sex of the baby
Cord not to be cut until it has finished pulsating
DH to cut the cord if he wants to

3RD STAGE
Natural 3rd stage where possible
I would like help to try and stay upright and active to increase the chance of natural delivery of placenta
I would like to try breast feeding as soon as possible
I would like to see the placenta before it is taken away

CONTINGENCIES
If I need to be separated from the baby, DH to stay with the baby, not with me
In the event that I cannot give the baby immediate skin-to-skin contact, baby to be passed to DH for skin-to-skin

AFTER DELIVERY
DH and I would like some time alone with the baby (availability of the delivery suite permitting) before moving to the post-natal ward

PinkFondantFancy · 13/09/2011 12:01

daisy will the sheepdog trials be on TV do you think? I LOVE watching it, soooo interesting! Hope daisybean rocks up soon!

milky hope your DD is feeling better soon

freezing have a fab holiday!

I will update the list in a sec

LaraandLittleBean · 13/09/2011 12:03

Hello Ladies

Huge congrats on the safe arrival of MiniWombat - hope mummy and baby are well.

The birth plan info was super informative - thanks for that. I need to figure out what's what. I think I'd like a water birth (at the hospital). DH and I had a huge row yesterday when I "assumed" he'd want to cut the cord. I thought it was pretty much standard that OHs did that but for some reason he flew off the handle (moody sod emoticon).

How are you ladies doing on stretchmarks. I was gutted to see that one has appeared from nowhere (well obv somewhere) on the side of my stomach. For days I convinced myself it was just a bruise but no, it's def a stretchmark. I have been oiling myself like a chip pan since I discovered I was pg but it's obviously not done anything. Now I am (superficially) extremely fearful that my whole stomach is about to explode in them. Gahhhh...

I am also off from 35 weeks but losing the will to live now I admire those of you that actually feel guilty about taking sick days. I actually think that it is my right these days for them being such arseholes I took a couple a few weeks back and think I am due at least two more before I start mat leave.

Daisybell1 · 13/09/2011 12:06

Pink Yes, they're on More4 every evening!!!! Grin If you watch, you have to keep an eye open for a Welsh guy - Kevin Evans with Spot. Spot is our puppy's uncle, bred by Kevin Grin

Thank you re the list, and birth plan looks good - I have the same feelings about going straight for C-section rather than instrumental delivery, so I may add that into mine.

Daisybell1 · 13/09/2011 12:08

X posts with Lara - I also assumed that OH would want to do it (and I would like him to) but he's more of the 'they're paid to do it so let them'. I've still written it into the plan in the hope that he may change his mind on the day....

IreneHeron · 13/09/2011 13:09

Collie and everyone discussing drugs etc, I found last time that g&a made me feel sick so I couldn't have that. I relied heavily on my tens machine, I really recommend hiring one.

I had NCT classes for DS1 and I think they were about the best £200 I've ever spent in my life. I've ended up with 6 couples who I count as best friends. I was very lucky.

Blackkat · 13/09/2011 13:10

Daisy thinking about you today, so pleased that you are going to carry on posting here.

Pink thanks so much for sharing your plan, very, very useful and helpful and PMSL at the lady in Homebase Grin

Sorry for no personals, really knackered and getting some tight twinges, assuming these are Branstons..??

PinkFondantFancy · 13/09/2011 13:17

lara DH's not sure whether he'll want to cut the cord or not, but I figured by putting it on the plan, it gives him the option to decide on the day.

thanks daisy I'll look out for it! Congratulations on being at your EDD by the way!

LaraandLittleBean · 13/09/2011 13:19

Oh dear, Daisy - our menfolk really don't always view these things in the same way as us. I just assumed he would want to cut the cord. I think he has added it to his mental list of "gross pregnancy things" - like discharge, cough-wees, the fear of me producing colostrum before baby arrives (during an intimate moment), the sieve at a water birth and waters breaking in his car (yes, we have argued over whose car will be going to the hospital - his eyes lit up when the hospital said an ambulance can be called in certain cases where people have no car. Note We have two cars, so there is really no excuse Hmm We WILL be going in his car ).

LaraandLittleBean · 13/09/2011 13:22

x-post with Pink... Oops, I was assumptive...

bigmacandhappymeal · 13/09/2011 17:16

Hi all
A quick delurk from a very windy Cornwall. Huge congratulations to wombat, lovely happy news ... Look forward to name, weight, mum update.
Thanks for birthplan - I'll be copying that! Im keeping an open mind about drugs - happy to have if circumstances dictate, but keen to see how I do without.
Someone was asking about hypnobirthing... Just received my book and cd - will start it next week and feedback. Ive had hypnotherapy for a crushing fear of heights and found it brilliant. I'm hoping that it will help me be calm rather than ezpecting it to help with pain iyswim...
Am a crazy hormonal type this week - just cried in the carpark in Padstow and this morning had a massive wibble as I went for a swim in the pool which coincided with Little Dippers. I felt like I might have a panic attack! Babies everywhere and the changing room (still communal FYI despite it being a posh place - grrr) was full of maxi cosi pepples. What have I done!! So fellow - wibblers you are not alone :)
blackkat you are not daft - how can anyone know how they are going to feel? Take some time off as you are and do what feels right for you. I am supposed to be going to 38 with a holiday day a week for the month beforehand. Do no know how I'm going to do it at the mo - I feel like a bleached blonde bella emberg lumbering around.
And on the bella emberg front I had an amazing cream tea today :)

Sorry not to name check more.it's odd, I know none of you but miss reading about the days preggers goss, finding put how you are and feel strangely protective of you all.

Also forgive typos - on phone
