So who's birth weight estimates were correct?

Some of you might have read my thread this week where I was worrying about movement and I got sent for a scan eventually.

So today, I was told by my MW to expect the baby to weigh 8 and a half to over 9lb! Shock

Did anyone have a correct weight estimate? If not were there any surprises?

I do not think they are always hughely accurate but I had a scan at 32 weeks with DS1 and weight estimate 4 1/2 pounds. Born at 39+5 and 8lb 6 so very accurate if you look at them gaining 8oz a week in last trimester.

Hmm. :) She also told me that was average weight, that seems huge to me! (probably because I am teeny.)
But everyone seems to be having 8lbers so it must be average now.

Mine was fairly accurate too - although I didn't want to believe it at the time! Probably 8lb i was told at 38 weeks and DS was 8lb5oz born. I am short and petite so it was a big shock my naiive system! It clearly means you are a good 'oven'! Grin

I don't think they really know what they are talking about, they told my cousin that her baby was going to be 5lbs if she was lucky but he was born at 6lb 13oz Hmm otoh they told me to expect an 8/9 pounder and they were correct, dd was 8lb 11oz

DS was estimated to be 10-11lb, I had extra scans due to bleeding and the consultant wanted to induce at 40 weeks to stop him getting too big. I asked if we could scrap that idea and when I had a scan at 39+2 he was estimated to be 8lb 8oz so they agreed I could wait for labour. I delivered him a few days later and he was 9lb 3oz.

DD is currently estimated to be around 9lb 4oz if she follows the line on my growth chart based on fundal height, but the chart doesn't take into account gender (girls tending to be slightly smaller than boys) or actual ultrasound measurements. DD's fundal height is measuring spot on for my weeks whereas DS was always 4-5cms ahead so not sure how she's estimated to be bigger whilst measuring smaller.

I really don't think the weight estimates are accurate.

Oh, I was hoping everyone would say "no, they were way off and DS/DD weighed loads less than predicted".

Spot on... all 3 of them ( 8lb 6, 9lb 6 and 9lb 8)

FWIW, I'm quite little and had lovely, easy labours. They certainly didn't get worse the bigger the babies got.

With my second they said about 8lb he was 5lb 10oz, third one they got bang on 6lb 4oz

Carey Ah, it's okay. :) I'm just happy he's healthy.

And hoping my fanjo wont be too badly affected by it!! :o

to be fair I did have preeclampsia so I think he stopped growing but I was still having regular scans as first was only 1lb 14oz.

way off with me, had growth scan at 38 weeks and told DS was about 7lb, expected to be around 8lb at term. He was 9lb 8oz, born at 39 weeks Hmm

I am also a good oven Grin or maybe it was all the hot chocolate

DC1 midwife said 7lb something - was 9lb 10
DC2 midwife said 8 lb - was 10lb 10!! (got induced after 4 days over as I was panicking about weight) ouch!
Fundal measurements were all just normal. I would say they haven't a clue...or maybe that was just my midwife Wink

I was told my DD was tiny. So I was very concerned when I went into labour at 33 weeks, she weighed 7lbs 4.

Sparkly and ChocChip Nooo! You're meant to say they were so wrong and they were teeny! :o But I suppose you are right, we must be good ovens! plus I may have overdosed on chocolate too

Dd1 was off - thought she was over 8lbs - she was 6lb10

DD2 was off - thought she was quite small - she was 8lb 8

Dd3 was bang on - told me she would be around 8lb 8 - she was 8lb 8.5 Grin

Was told DS would be 7lb 13oz.

Induced a week later (39+1) and he was born two days after that (39+3).

10lb 6oz.

Midwife: "Ooh Mrs Crunchie, he's a whopper."
Mrs Crunchie : "I know, I've just spent two days trying to deliver him."

He's now 3.5 and I had to pay 5 year old rates at soft play today as he's a head taller than his peers. Skinny little bugger though.

So, it will be what it will be. Gorgeous whatever the size.

From my fundal height and all my examinations and a growth scan at 28 weeks I was told we were having a big baby with a big bum! I was expecting a 9lb plus baby and got a 7lb 3oz skinny bean. She was really long but skinny. She's still really long at 9 months but not quite so skinny now! Good luck - it's so exciting!

I had a scan that said 4 lb 7 he was 4 lb 4

Mw said 7-8 lb with my first, it's all water she said, he was 11 lb 2 oz

Addicted I don't think I will touch another crunchie again this pg just in case that's the source! Wink

After all the worry this week, I guess it's good to have a worry over something quite meaningless and small. :)

I'm sure it will all be okay. my fanjo hopes anyway :o
