Some of you might have read my thread this week where I was worrying about movement and I got sent for a scan eventually.

So today, I was told by my MW to expect the baby to weigh 8 and a half to over 9lb! Shock

Did anyone have a correct weight estimate? If not were there any surprises?

:o

They told me DD would be big with a huge tummy and a tiny pin head. She was 10lb 1oz but head and tummy were in proportion (due to serious malpositioning she had to come out the sun roof in the end anyway but after some serious huffing and puffing on my part) Good luck Smile

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 20/07/2011 21:57

I liked my estimates with DD:

The midwife reckoned baby would be bigger than DS (9lb 4) for sure!

The consultant said that was rubbish, baby would definitely be under 8lb "or he should quit his job"!

DD was 8lb 10 so they were both wrong Grin No word on whether the consultant handed in his notice though...

Thanks to everyone who has replied to this btw. :)

It's nice to hear all the stories, it's making me more excited!

I had regular scans with DS as I had placenta previa. Has scan on fri & estimated weight was 3lb 8oz, had emcs 3 days later and he was 3lb 11oz at 31 weeks so very accurate in my case.

Junebugjr · 20/07/2011 22:06

I had a growth scan which estimated baby at 11lb near edd. I was going for a vbac, so was petrified, I'm very petite. They offered a section, but took my chances with a natural birth. Dd2 was born off the charts for length and head circumference(ouch!), but only 8lb. They were right about her being on the large side but not weight wise, she was just very long and skinny.

BlueKangaroo22 · 20/07/2011 22:06

My midwife told me when I asked and I quote "between 7 and 7.5lbs and if I am wrong you can hunt me down."

Well I gave birth to a 8lb 2.5oz dd with her hands on either side of her face but in all fairness little one had an extra week of growing time!

June If they had told me 11lb I would have fainted, I'm only 5'2 and wee!

TheSecondComing I only started showing about a week ago and am now wearing size 12 skinny jeans... Maybe there is a trend there!

I had a scan with ds2 four hours before he was born. I am very small and was told that the baby would be 7lb, 7 and a half lb max. He actually weighed 9lbs 5oz and got stuck on the way out. Was actually fairly glad that I didn't know in advance as it would definitely have freaked me out.

lovesicecream · 20/07/2011 22:46

I had an epidural with my 11 lb 2 baby's birth so didnt feel a thing! Pritty uncomfortable for a while after but not half as bad as you imagen it to be

WeLoveHaribo · 21/07/2011 12:54

Scanned at 38 wk for being small. Told expect a 4/5lb baby born on due date 7.11lb!

nunnie · 21/07/2011 12:59

I am on my 3rd and never had a birth weight average. I was measured regularly with 1st as she was measuring small but I was never given an estimated birth weight just snet for scan and scan showed everything was normal and fine, she was born at 39+1 weighing 5lb 13oz. With DS I was told by midwife I am not destined for a big baby but again never tols an estimated weight, he was born 36+3 weighing 6lb 3oz.
Pregnant again and have only been measured once 28 weeks by hospital due to previous SGA baby and they haven't said anything either.

Wonder if I'll get an extimate this time, I feel left out.

notnowbernard · 21/07/2011 13:02

DC1 - estimate I was given was 1lb over actual weight

DC2 - can't remember estimate Blush

DC3 - estimate was 2lb under actual weight

AmateurCrastinator · 21/07/2011 13:14

I never had an estimate for first 2 DS although told DS1 would be big at first but then at 38 wks sent for a growth scan, he was 7lb 6oz at 39+6 and then went up to the 98th percentile within a month and has stayed there ever since (he's 8 years old now and actually off the charts for his height). DS2 was 7lb 2oz and at 4.5 is one of the smallest in his class.

I'm now 33 wks pregnant with DS3 and have had an estimate of 8lb 4oz although, not sure if its because I'm older and knackered, I swear I'm waaay bigger than I was with either of previous pregnancies. I can barely move and skin is as tight as a drum already. Eek.

AmateurCrastinator · 21/07/2011 13:16

nunnie, what's SGA?

nunnie · 21/07/2011 13:17

Small gestational age.

AmateurCrastinator · 21/07/2011 13:18

Ah, thx

buttonmoon78 · 21/07/2011 16:29

Didn't have a growth scan/prediction with either dd.

Ds1 - growth scan at 36wks said 7.5lbs. Born at 38wks. 7lbs.
Ds2 - consistently predicted at 9lb at 40wks. Born at 38+1 (last Saturday Smile). 9lb 6oz.

SchrodingersMew · 21/07/2011 17:22

So many people haven't had estimations, I thought it was quite normal to get 1.

Button Congrats! :o

DC1 - 7lb - arrived 9'11
DC2 - 7lb - arrived 8'3 (3 weeks early)
DC3 - 7lb - arrived 9'5

Never saw the same MW twice.

Finally DC4 - MW - 'oh, it's all water, 7lb.' Me - 'Really? All my others have been pretty big'. MW - 'Definately a 7 pounder' (this was on the Friday). Sunday morning - 10'14!

SchrodingersMew · 22/07/2011 12:03

Changer Fecking hell!! 10'14!? Shock

Well bloody done!

I'm scared now. :(

changer22 · 22/07/2011 15:07

Don't be scared - big is beautiful!

And yes, before you ask, it was a natural birth. Grin
