Hello, just back off a mini break and catching up on mumsnet housework. Is there anywhere a bit more cafe-ish? If we go to a restaurant and see large glasses of chilled white wine, clouded with condensation, I may weep! Grin Though I suppose we have months of Costa-dom ahead.....I'm easy really

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 07:29

Mornink all, And welcome back sparkly.
Cafe-ish is fine with me. I think the cafes that are in amongst the shops though are always busy - and we might feel pushed to move on. The cafes/bars in the food section (baby brain has stolen it's name) ...in the Orient are usually quieter.
But I'm happy with anywhere that's suggested. I don't have any particular cravings, I just want to eat everything, so I'd be as happy with a white chocolate muffin as anything else! :)

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 07:30

Yup, im sure we can pick a cafe type out! i have never been a wine drinker, so i didnt think of that!!

Oooo i am dreaming about the cakes now yum yum...

How was your break hun? x

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 08:21

Ah bugger it! Let's go to Selfridges and have sushi and white wine, and then find some brie!

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 08:35

That was a joke by the way!
Not that I think the odd glass of white wine will do much damage, but can you imagine the looks we'd get??! A gaggle of women with baby bumps knocking back the pinot grigio in public! We'd be put in the stocks!

kri5ty · 29/07/2011 09:48

haha ooooo yes i love that idea! I would just find it funny for the looks!

The cafe at John Lewis is nice and not too busy, the upstairs one but don't know what it's called. Does this mean I can have a glass of wine now I've already popped
;-)

OiMissus · 29/07/2011 18:36

Oooh John Lewis - dangerously close to Mamas and Papas and with a very lovely children's section itself - sounds good to me! And yes, you get to drink our wine quota!

kri5ty · 30/07/2011 13:57

Yes most defiantly... I would be insulted if you didn't have a drink for me :) I'm actually going to be naughty and have a little one next week as I'm in Belgium!
John Lewis is an excellent idea... we don't have to walk far to m&ps then muhaha

I admit, last weekend I had a raw anchovie, some camembert and a bit of stilton - but it was a wedding, and they didn't have a cake - just 4 tiered cheeses!

Anyway, baby has since then been very very active and wakin gme up some nights with his frolics, so am not worrying too much Grin

am very jealous of you all as I can't go - am in Mancs next weekend for the football, if only the meet was a week earlier!

kri5ty · 01/08/2011 07:37

awww hun dont worry there will be plenty more im sure :o
and eurgh tiered cheeses, i hate cheese and would have been very unhappy about the lack of cake at a wedding!!

OiMissus · 01/08/2011 12:52

I wanted a cheese wedding cake but DH wouldn't let me. Mmmmm cheese! dad made up for it at christmas by assembling a cheese christmas cake for me, complete with snowman decorations and angels. Grin

mamalovebird · 01/08/2011 12:59

Can I join in?

I'm not pregnant (my ds is 19 months) but would love to meet some Manchester Mumsnet mums....

I live in Sale, am 34, lived in Manchester a measly 3 years, planning on trying for number dc2 in the coming months.

kri5ty · 01/08/2011 13:02

of course mamalovebird :) the more the merrier!! manchester munsnets mums haha try and say that quickly!!

considering this is a parenting website there should be a smiley for "sick", as i would use this now thinking about a cheese christmas cake haha... unless it was baked cheesecake then thats ok :o lol i am so luckly, i dont like cheese, or drink wine, the only thing i have had to be careful of is mayo in this pregnancy! Oh... And the odd vodka lol

mamalovebird · 01/08/2011 13:18

Yay! Have just informed DH that he'll need to keep 13th free to watch ds, unless we take our dcs to these sort of things, never been to one before.

It'll be lovely seeing all the bumps. I'm desperate to start trying again but we have to time it so we can be in the right financial position so I'm having to wait a few months before....er...... getting down to it Wink

Lunch is good for me, happy to go wherever.

haha OiMissus I toyed with a cheese wedding cake but it would have stank the reception venue out so it was a non-starter.

I think most shop bought mayo is fine, it's the fresh made stuff you need to watch out for.

OiMissus · 01/08/2011 14:39

Don't come between me and my mayo! I dream of Roquefort cheese. I'm going get some in for the moment I've given birth. that, and a pint of martini. :)
I'll look forward to meeting you mama.
How many are there of us now, about 6? The 13th seems like ages away!

mamalovebird · 01/08/2011 15:05

Wouldn't dream of it Missus Smile. I treated myself to a tuna mayo sandwich every few weeks now and then when I was pregnant, I even had pate at Christmas (was due on the 29th Dec so figured it really couldn't do any harm with only a few days to go). God, I'm so rock and roll!

Have we decided a venue?

Looking forward to meeting you too. Now that ds is older, I want some sort of life back!

OiMissus · 01/08/2011 15:25

We got as far as deciding the Trafford Centre, and the John Lewis cafe upstairs was nominated.
We're still open to ideas. No firm time yet, but around lunch.
I have egg mayo and tuna mayo all the time. And have been known to dunk the odd chip.
Rock n roll! - I had sushi in the first trimester!
This thread is making me hungry.

Sparklywine · 01/08/2011 15:45

Items I have unwittingly or otherwise consumed;
2 barbecued prawns
Halloumi
Feta
Parma ham
Mayonnaise
Salad cream if that counts
A rogue mussel lurking in a paella
Too much chocolate
2 cappucinos. No, 3. Not in the same sitting, but buzzing each time and feeling a tad guilty (didn't stop me though, did it, hmmm?)
Sure I had a bit of goats cheese on a pizza
White wine, rose wine, red wine (in tiny, guidelined doses, but still.....where's the willpower?!)
Felt very tempted to sniff some rum the other day. In the morning...Blush
Sushi though, you maverick! Grin
Mama, hello, I am in Sale too, it'll be nice to meet someone nearby.....unless you are a bit odd of course, in which case it'll be really awkward, skulking around Sainsbury's trying to avoid you! Grin

OiMissus · 02/08/2011 06:56

Oh flip! Half of the things on your list I didn't even know were banned. I lived off parma ham for 2 weeks in Italy. That was my fail safe starter to avoid seafood!! Whoops!
And I've used Capricorn Goats cheese in risottos as it's made with pasteurised milk - so I think that means it's OK.
Sniffing rum though - and in the morning?! That's beyond maverick-ism!

Sparklywine · 02/08/2011 08:12

I don't even know if they are banned, they're just in my head as being dubious. As is sausage, which I have therefore been avoiding, no doubt utterly without foundation.
John Lewis cafe sounds good, my sister practically lived there with both of the nieces shortly after they were born, so it will be good practice. Someone steer me through the cushion section blindfolded though otherwise I shall make a purchase!

kri5ty · 02/08/2011 08:13

haha i just have visions of mama and sparkly avoiding each other around the aisles in sainsburys... i actually miss living in sale.. i guess its true that you think of the place you grew up as "home"!

Hmm my salad cream is fine :) as is my mayo ... however we do eat out at gastropubs quite a bit and a have mistakenly ok on purpose eaten their homemade mayo... i have been good with caffine and only have one Brew a day :) and so far i have managed to avoid cheesecake... this is my favourite so im very happy i have managed!!

As of yet i have had no alcohol, but i go to belgium tomorrow so i am going to have a couple of fruit beers :o

OP posts:
kri5ty · 02/08/2011 08:16

John lewis cafe it is then :0 ... keep me clear of the baby section... unless they have a sale on! mama i hope you realise i shall be asking you soooo many questions about what you do with a baby haha (and how the hell you clean a boy... i have only ever looked after girls and i feel wrong!!)

kri5ty · 02/08/2011 08:16
