Labour must be close because not only am I absolutely starving, exhausted but unable to sleep let alone well!
But I swear if DP's elbow touches my arm one more time I will throttle him!
I cannot stand anyone near me and nearly everything is driving me mad with misery.
I am also highly emotional.

Come moan with me, please bring warm donuts Grin

Grin at Damsel.

It was hideous. We slept (well, dh did) with all windows and doors open to try to create some sort of draught. Didn't really work though. I think I might have to invest in a fan.

DH was really unhelpful. He said (when my tossing and turning and huffing and puffing woke him at about 2am) 'it's not really that hot you know'. Hmm

I forbore to wallop him which took some effort, I can tell you!

NightLark · 27/06/2011 09:45

now for really hot uncomfortable nights, try nicking your older child's bed-protector (padded sheet with plastic backing) in case your waters go. It's like a patent sweat-enhancer. No wonder DD is sleeping better now I've stolen the damn thing...

mumblebum · 27/06/2011 10:01

Ha ha Nightlark I've done the same thing. It doesn't help the heat really does it!

Hot hot hot.

Had another conversation about how big my bump was this morning at pre-school drop off. Still at least one of the people involved was very sympathetic because she'd had a big bump herself.

Heat is giving me a headache.

38+4 and counting...

buttonmoon78 · 27/06/2011 10:30

I've never worried about a plastic sheet as my waters have been broken in labour each of the 3 times.

And TBH, if they went spontaneously this time I'd have greater worries than the mattress, with the way the baby is lying and all!

Just looked south and my ankles have exploded. Sigh.

sydneysuze · 27/06/2011 10:34

Hi All

Hope there are some babies on the way for you all.

Still here - EDD is today! My DD was born at 40+4 on a new moon, it's new moon on Friday which would also be 40+4 for this one so maybe I'm going to finally go on Friday. Baby has been 3/5 engaged for a couple of weeks now and I am soo darn ROUND I look like I've been inflated!!

So not enjoying this heat either. In my normal, non-pregnant life I would be loving it.

Congrats Poppy well done you!

Button I'm late '30s and I think my particular hospital doesn't like 'Gipper Mummies' or whatever lovely phrase they use to describe us to go overdue so that's why they've given me a 40 week appointment to see if I need inducing. Luckily my lovely local midwives are more on the side of doing it naturally so it's all systems go on the pineapple/husband jumping/raspberry leaf tea etc. I'll go in with an open mind but will push for a scan to check placenta and blood flow as well as fluid if they want to induce me.

Baby is actually moving a bit less often than before, but I found that happened in April during the really hot weather too - still moving every hour several times but not as much as before. So I'm a bit anxious - come on baby, time to come out and meet us!!!

buttonmoon78 · 27/06/2011 10:37

I have no idea what that phrase is meant to signify but the very sound of it is distasteful!

sydneysuze · 27/06/2011 10:42

They actually refer to pg women over 35 as 'geriatric', I just checked my notes!

nicolamumof3 · 27/06/2011 10:50

oh im just escaping that description then as not 36 til September.

However my step dad's neice was induced a week ago for her age (45yr) bang on her due date ended up in very long labour and then emcs. Always a great believer in leaving them to come when ready but im fed up and only 37+2! So bloody hot and itchy. Would love to just sit in my knickers and no bra all day. Going to sainsbo's this afternoon and so looking forward to the cold food aisles! Dh off today fortunately doing all school and nursery runs.

Attempted ironing just now with fan going but still nearly passed out

tadd · 27/06/2011 10:58

Congrats to VHKP, and lucky her, i tried the whole pineapple and nothing happened!!! im not jealous at all!

mumblebum · 27/06/2011 11:16

Oh I'm geriatric then, just, nobody seems to have noticed though Grin.

NightLark · 27/06/2011 11:36

I'm geriatric by anyones measure (40) and on my third child. Local midwives seem to be leaving me alone though. Next appt Weds (will be 41+2) for a sweep if I'm still in this state. Can't get my head around this. DS was born at 41 weeks exactly, DD at 39. Come on body, get on with it.

(BTW, my waters have gone before the onset of labour both times so far, hence the plastic sheet!)

NightLark · 27/06/2011 14:38

ouchy ouch ouch, something is (at long last) starting to happen. How long from here is anyone's guess, but I appear to be at the paracetemol and TENS machine stage...

SerenaJoy · 27/06/2011 14:45

Ooh good luck NightLark!

smellyeli · 27/06/2011 16:11

Ooo nightlark hope it progresses into something! Very Envy - 40+3 with number 3 (also geriatric at 38 - but I think they only make a thing of it if it's your first!) and hot.

Agree with you re: plastic sheet but have rather nice mattress so DH insists! Also it's useful for breastfeeding leakage (me) and reflux (baby) so will keep it on.

Good luck!

buttonmoon78 · 27/06/2011 16:14

Good luck nightlark! Looking forward to hearing the good news soon!

prolificwillybreeder · 27/06/2011 16:33

Ooh good luck nightlark!
I'm toying with the idea of a TENS. Can't decide if it would be worth it or not. Thoughts?
Hope everyone else is ok and not melting in his muggy weather. If it's not raining where you are!

Ohhh good luck NightLark. How exciting.

Have just organised a birthday outing on Sunday for DD so much as it pains me I think I need baby to stay put until next week now!

tadd · 27/06/2011 17:34

Good Luck NightLark! Im rather Envy! Im 39+1 now and is very keen to meet our little "sprout"!

NightLark · 27/06/2011 18:42

Cheers all. Real (painful) contractions now. Birthpool filling up, midwife on her way, here's hoping.
PS was sceptical about TENS but used one last time and this. It was taking it off to get into the birth pool last time that convinced me: suddenly PAIN! TENS had been masking it very well. Also great distraction activity!

prolificwillybreeder · 27/06/2011 18:51

Eek! Midwife coming, birthing pool! It's all kicking off! I'll try a TENS if I can get one ordered in time :)

So much luck! Hope it all goes swimmingly! ( birthing pool, swimming=swimmingly?) haha! Ah well can't blame the crazy ridiculously slow labouring woman for trying Grin

SerenaJoy · 27/06/2011 19:28

Wow Nightlark, am impressed you're on mumsnet in the middle of labour! Best of luck, looking forward to hearing the news!

How are you getting on PWB?

No progress here, more of the same! Starting to resign myself to induction on Thursday... But am very glad I'm in one of the cooler parts of the UK today - I think I'd expire in 33 degree heat.

sydneysuze · 27/06/2011 22:05

Ooooh good on you Nightlark hope it all goes fast and well!!!!

I'm another fan of the TENS machine, they had to prise it from me last time as I was still clinging on to it about an hour after DD was born! Fab things. Am hoping it'll be just as handy this time.

Right, am off to make more raspberry leaf tea and lie in wait for unsuspecting husband...

kalo12 · 27/06/2011 22:11

good luck nightlark - go, go, go!

mummytiger are you me?

Darlingdamsel · 27/06/2011 23:52

All the best Nightlark!

And for the rest of us in this swealtering heat ... I afraid to even try to go to bed. What is the point? I am just going to be miserable.

Please at least send rain!

mumblebum · 28/06/2011 06:51

I hope NightLark is doing ok.

I'm looking forward to a cooler day today. Had a few painful bh last night. I hope that's warming up for the main event.
