...sorry for another name thread.... but I'm due (today!) and we are still struggling with names. TBH, I'm not too worried, but DH seems to be getting a bit manic about it. :-)

What are the most common names of baby girls being born this year that you know. Which names do you like (and which do you think are a bit overdone?)

All, any, and every kind of help very appreciated!

Top girl names so far this year according to Bounty.

I also like

Samantha & charlotte

CarolinaMoon · 18/11/2005 13:41

I like Juliet, Harriet, Henrietta. Have only met one tiny Juliet and none of the other two.

Unlike Maddy, Evie, Isabel. No shortage of them.

spidermama · 18/11/2005 13:49

Can't move for Eleanors around here.

bebejam · 18/11/2005 13:52

well if i have another girl we like:

Helen, Kate, Elizabeth, Kitty

bebejam · 18/11/2005 13:58

I should add a caveat here, as I know my husband likes to browse around mumsnet on his lunch hour... and I think he knows my moniker.

  • honey, if you read this... I meant "manic" in the nicest possible way. :-) I think it is sweet that you are so interested in finding the right name for the baby.

P.S. I think you are going to make a great dad.

Okay, that said.. back to the mission at hand!

helsi · 18/11/2005 15:49

ooh Enid - both my own names are in your favourites!!!

helsi · 18/11/2005 15:50

I like Hannah, Grace, Elizabeth, Sarah, Annabel, Charlotte, Mary & Emily

allyco · 18/11/2005 15:54

LOVE Irish names too but DH tends to veto them. Eldest DD has Aisling for middle name and third DD has Niamh - compromise.

I also like Dara which means "old rock" but DH thinks that's completely barmy.

EnidEatsPeasWithACocktailStick · 18/11/2005 15:57

quite like josephine too

Tinker · 18/11/2005 16:01

Are you Irish though allyco? Think very Irish names can sound a bit daft in you've no connection to the place.

misdee · 18/11/2005 16:08

mine girls are called nicole louise, lauren jade and serena dixie. not sure if thats any help to you tho.

collision · 18/11/2005 16:11

Mine would have been Annabel Oriele and Sophia Amy......but we had 2 boys instead.

Also like
Maddie
Cassidy (Cassie)
Edie
Daisy

helsy · 18/11/2005 16:15

Enid has my name and the names of both of my daughters there! We went for "classic" on the grounds that there are lots of variations on each for them to choose if they don't like the long versions. Both have unusual middle names

serenity · 18/11/2005 16:15

So far we've only had three girls born this year, everyone's been having boys! The girls are Stephanie, Isabella and Isabelle (the two Izzie's mums don't know each other btw)

katzguk · 18/11/2005 16:18

we've got Phoebe and Annalise

allyco · 18/11/2005 16:19

Tinker - yes I am !!!

BUT DDs have irish names only as middle names as I think otherwise would have spent half their lives eplaining how to say/spell them to other people . My middle name is Bridie.

bebejam · 18/11/2005 16:21

he, he, he....

There are some lovely Irish names out there, but if I named my daughter Aoife or Saoirse my sweet old MIL would probably have a massive stroke, not kidding.

(in-laws are Ulster uber-protestants, the "other kind of Irish"
