...sorry for another name thread.... but I'm due (today!) and we are still struggling with names. TBH, I'm not too worried, but DH seems to be getting a bit manic about it. :-)

What are the most common names of baby girls being born this year that you know. Which names do you like (and which do you think are a bit overdone?)

All, any, and every kind of help very appreciated!

Well, I think Dara is quite cool then

TinyGang · 18/11/2005 16:23

Lots of Hannah's, Emily's, Megan's and Chloe's among dd's friends. There were alos quite a few Georgia's about at one point but they seem to have moved away from my radar for the moment.

Pinotmum · 18/11/2005 16:29

I know a boy called Dara (in his 20's now) whose parents are Irish.

collision · 18/11/2005 16:31

My ds goes to school with Evie, Georgia, Zoe, Pia and Lizzie and Alice.

Alice is a sweet name.

vickiyumyum · 18/11/2005 16:32

at the hopsital where i work there are a lot of hannahs, phoebes, megan and ellies born.

if no3 was to be a girl i like the name katie as an easy to say no mistaking kind of name, i like the irish names and with 2 boys already called Keir and William, the celtic influence is their, but you would be amazed at the different spelling we have had for Keir so will stick to names that are easy to spell.

bebejam · 18/11/2005 16:36

I think Olivia is beautiful, as does DH- but thinks it might be too prolific at moment (any thoughts?)

Have a FAB Aunt named Clara who I love dearly... but I think someone on mumsnet said on an earlier thread that Clara was a cow's name in England. (!)

Kathleen is about as Irish as we could get away with. I think Katie is adorable (I've never met a Kate or Katie I didn't like...) but even more popular than Olivia.

Okay- here is the short list: be brutally honest ladies!

Olivia (current front runner)

Clara (moooooooooo....)

Kathleen

Florence

Caroline

...currently baby is called "she-baby", which is going to be a hard habit to break....

and YES, I am having twinges! cramps that come and go... so please keep the input and ideas coming! looks like we might be running short on time!

I like Olivia (but would call her Livia which 2 of my Italian friends have called their daughters)

Not keen myself on Kathleen or Florence.

Caroline is quite nice. And I do like Clara.

lucykate · 18/11/2005 16:40

if ds had been a girl, i'd chosen emma louise. dd is lucy kate.

allyco · 18/11/2005 16:46

Olivia for me as is DD2's name so biased (she's 13 and when I had her it was v. unusual as was the way with all my DD's names, but they get more and more popular don't they).

Also have always liked Bianca although Eastenders RUINED it forever. So it's Olivia for me. bebejam, are you breathing, and relaxing (it'll be me again in a few months - so excited!!) Keep us posted.

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:47

If Sophie's in the top ten list... please tell me Sophia's still unusual-ish... I thought it was!

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:48

Olivia is a lovely name... I don't like the Irish ones purely due to the fact that it took me about 16 years to realise how to pronounce 'Siobhan' (yes I probably spelled that wrong!)

allyco · 18/11/2005 16:49

go on fastasleep - what did you used to think the pronounciation was??! I had a friend who though Sean was pronounced See-an until Sean Connery got famous agan and she realised!!

keep breathing bebejam

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:51

Well I thought it was the weirdest name ever - I only ever heard it you see so when I rarely saw it written down I thought 'how odd - SEE-OH-BAN... bizarre!'

can you imagine what I'd make of 'Caoimhe'!!

allyco · 18/11/2005 16:52

this friend also thought a moustache was a mouse ache!!!!

fastasleep · 18/11/2005 16:54

I like Olivia, Florence and Caroline. My friends have daughters named Beatrice, Evie, Ellie, Lucy, Mabel and Clementine. Harriet is another name we've all liked. I just had a little girl two weeks ago and we've named her Rosamund Rae, calling her Rosie or Rosie Rae. Rae is a family name.

Good luck! Little girls are so sweet.

Earlybird · 18/11/2005 16:56

I've always liked:

Francesca
Christina
Madelaine
Phoebe
Heather
Clarissa

hoxtonchick · 18/11/2005 17:01

my 4 month oldd dd is florence

Hulababy · 18/11/2005 17:01

I like very girly names such as

Mollie (DD's name )
Olivia (middle name )
Poppy
Lily
Lucie
Aimee
Ellie
Evie
Emily
Daisy

DD votes for a Dora!

Top 100 names for girls in the UK

Jackstini · 18/11/2005 17:06

Definately Olivia Bebejam. I am biased as it is my niece's name but it is my favourite out of your list. I do like Katie too though!

BigBumpBonnie · 18/11/2005 17:09

just had a little dd 5 weeks ago and she's called ruby. Not everyones cup of tea but we like it

cupcakes · 18/11/2005 17:10

My sister is called Clara. We've never met another (or any cows for that matter.) Hers is pronounced Clare-ah, not Clarah.
My dd is Phoebe.
If I was to have another girl my next favourite names are:
Cecily
Daisy
Libby (Elizabeth)
I also like Clover and Flora but have been informed that they 'spread easily'
Dh likes Roxanne/Roxie. I did till I tried the bag and found it really cumbersome

harpsichordcarrierforcharidee · 18/11/2005 17:10

holding my breath reading this thread to see if I have chosen a name for dd2 (first time I have posted that ) which is (a) chavvy (b) pretentious or (c) common as muck
Annabel...
