Daisy i get an achy bump regularly. Very probably... what are you doing shifting furniture?!?!?! TUT TUT... sounds like the sort of thing i would do!!

You may have eaten something disagreeable, or have picked up a little bug...your achy bump could just be that its hurting because you have a poorly tummy... i know that can def make mine hurt more....!! Am sure all will be fine... FEET UP!! x

owlbooty · 13/06/2011 09:58

Daisy you daft bugger; you've overdone it I bet. I spent a day doing some light gardening about 4 or 5 weeks ago (I may have moved a couple of bags of compost, whoops) and was absolutely bent double the next day, I could hardly move. And the bump definitely ached, like I'd pulled all the muscles across the top and bottom of it.

Put your feet up and rest like Nix says! Maybe have a nice long soak in the bath? I hope you are feeling better soon.

I also feel like shite today. I have been trying to take the evil iron tablets as prescribed by the doc. However, whilst I can combat the evil constipation that comes with them by drinking fruit juice etc, I have no solution for the even more evil stomach cramps that they seem to cause within minutes of swallowing the feckers. Any suggestions would be gratefully received as I do not want to do myself out of a home birth because my iron levels are shite, and yet this is making me feel so unwell I am not sleeping at all and I am only managing half the dose I am supposed to be taking. I am currently topping it up with Spatone which is better but apparently not as effective.

Anyone?

Daisybell1 · 13/06/2011 10:17

Thank you all Blush. Stupidly I've come to work but that's because I've I've got an Occupational Health appointment at lunchtime which will hopefully say I can stay part time.

Yes, I shifted a single bed, chest of drawers etc etc, down stairs, into the cattle trailer and upstairs at the other end, together with dismantling a desk and pushing around some filing cabinets and bookcases - oops.

Sickness has faded after half a banana, and the aching is now just a twinge down one side low down under my bump - groin strain possibly?

Didn't help that I work up after dreaming that sprog (Team blue - James!) had arrived 2 months early and was in intensive care, and I was being sent home over an hour away Sad

Orange I ran away from the NCT sale as I was scared which was stupid as apparently it wasn't busy at all. There was a lot of stuff being packed up at the end which didn't sell - pushchairs were about £100 if you want a guide price.

I was also thinking about a sling but a baby bjorn one....

Wombat33 · 13/06/2011 11:42

Hello all.

Daisy I've got an upset tummy and achy bump today. Seems to happen to me about once a week and I can never work out what's caused it - there don't seem to be any consistent factoors. I just put it down to my body being generally all over the place!

I've just ordered a baby bjorn sling too. Absolutely no idea if it will be any good but I wanted something to give DH on Father's Day and if we don't like it we'll just have to change it Grin

Totally terrified of tempting the pixies by buying stuff/planning to celebrate Father's Day, but am trying to take the advice of a friend who is a few weeks ahead of me who said that if things go wrong at this late stage she would be absolutely devastated and whether she has a cot/pushchair/clothes etc in the house would not make her any more or less devastated, so she figured she may as well get on and enjoy shpopping and getting things ready...

Baby still transverse here. V uncomfy and I'm starting to worry she won't turn. Am trying to convince myself that at least a section is 'controlled damage' so there are advantages either way it happens in the end.

Hello all

apples I keep checking in for news from you, sounds like it won't be too long now!!

daisy I suspect you've just completely overdone it. Take it easy for a day or two and no more shifting furniture around!

wombat I had a baby bjorn sling for ds and dd but didn't use it very much as was too handy to chuck shopping etc under the buggy! It was fine when we did use it though.

Welcome to wiw - good to see you here!

nicks how are you getting on? Are things still as hectic with work and moving etc? I can't believe how far along you and owl are now! Smile

Very encouraging to see people starting to buy things now - I splashed out on my first babygro at the weekend; a very scary moment!

I've also been thinking about dachs - if you're lurking, I'm thinking of you, lovely. Hope you're ok xxx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 13/06/2011 13:54

owl have you tried floradix/floravital? Supposed to be pretty good and a bit easier on the constipation!

nickstermum · 13/06/2011 14:10

Oof owl... nice combo!! Dont envy that!!

Wombat..we are transverse/feet down/breech at the min. Feet keep whacking me down south... please turn babynix! I had this with DS and he eventually turned but i dont think this one will. Have a wide uterus it would seem. Have arranged a check this week to see what its doing.

Izz... am fine thanks. Coping just about, hectic but house only just on the market! Hectic trying to deal with devilchild DS and keep the house clean but hey ho Confused Today have organised my mat leave starting 8th july hoorah, a week later than planned but at least now its in the bag i can start to plan :)

CollieandPup · 13/06/2011 14:55

Thanks everyone for your advice on the Dr Foster Birth Guide and birthing Options. Owl good points you made about the variables. Some of the stats are headcounts, not % so you really need to put them into context to the number of women they see. Pink I?m still quite chicken about a HB but trying to give it serious consideration. So far from the threads I?ve read people seem to say the same as you, the mw identifies problems early and doesn?t take any chances. But then when if there is an unforeseen problem once baby is born ? think Nix has scary story. So much to stress and worry think about!! tigger stating a thread is a good idea. Once I have plucked up the courage know more clearly what I want to know I think I will.

Ohh, enjoying the sling chat, I?ve been thinking about getting something along these lines but haven?t really done my research yet. So is the consensus that the bjorn is the best?

daisy I can?t belive your been heavy lifting!! Get home tonight and put your feet up! Wink

cep and wiw nice to see you in here - wiw very brave taking the big plunge!! cep think I?d have hung around on the waiting to join list for a bit longer, but only because I am a chicken!! Happy to be moved though ? but think I?ll stay in the FO for a while longer, just not ready to make the full transition yet.

Emoo · 13/06/2011 14:57

Hello all!

Thought it was about time I caught up again - lovely to see so many new faces from the FO room

What a lot to catch up on...
Nix - hooray for a maternity leave date!! One of the reasons I've been so quiet is that I'm trying to sort mine out. I seem to have to co-ordinate it with about 8 different people, none of whom seem sure what the rules are (anyone would think it's the first time anyone has ever been pregnant...). Hope the little one turns soon - you've been being kicked in the fanjo ever since I can recall!

Izz - congrats on a lovely reassuring scan - hope you are able to enjoy things a little more now. Sounds like you have bought one more babygro than I have!

Daisy yowch that sounds painful. Definitely get your feet up, lass.

Oh dear owl I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions to help you on the iron front (although suspect I may be joining you before long as I didn't have great Hb at booking, prob due to recent miscarriage, and have been having nosebleeds 3/weekly for the last goodness-knows how long).

wiw - that's interesting about the anti-D (or lack of it). If the blood is from an irritated cervix (and so definitely yours not baby's), there is of course no need for anti-D. I've always wondered if the UK MWs are dishing out anti-D a bit too liberally... perhaps they like inflicting pain mwahahahhaaha!

Apple - hope you are getting your snuggles soon! Good luck...!

Coco - well done for looking in The Bag. One day I will have to look in The Loft. Preferably before I get too unstable for the ladder!

Emoo · 13/06/2011 15:01

OOopsie Xposts with Collie - knew there was someone else to wave to! I know 2 people who have had homebirths, both went swimmingly. Unfortunately it's not on my radar as I am too "complicated".

appleblossoms · 13/06/2011 15:12

Naughty daisy shifting furniture... I definitely wouldn't EVER do something like that Wink Blush Hope you're beginning to feel a bit better now. How did you get on with Occupational Health?

owl I have no experience with iron tablets, but sorry they're making you feel so rubbish Sad Hope you manage to find a way to work round it. Is it orange juice that's meant to help aid iron intake?

Well done on sling ordering wombat, I think your friend is right really. Once you get to a certain point you really do need to make yourself enjoy where you're at as it's not like worrying and being miserable is any better at keeping away the jinx pixies than being happy!

How's all with you izz? Are you managing to keep the mentalling to a minimum? Been thinking of you recently as I know these next few weeks will be hardest for you.

Exciting news on ML date nix....so now the countdown can begin! You've still got a few weeks for babynix to turn haven't you? I don't really know much about upside down babies...but fx it follows his big brother and turns the right way round soon.

No news here...still waiting. But definitely in a better mood. I got some of the baby clothes out again last night and gave them a little cuddle Blush tried to make myself remember that I WILL have a baby to go in them very soon. Still feeling a bit anxious that things won't work properly, but am praying that I can relax and it'll happen the way it's meant to. Made it to church for the first time in weeks yesterday (service is at 9:15, clearly not designed for pregnant ladies who need lie-ins at the weekend!) and that's made me feel a little calmer too.

crochet did you get your sweep on friday? are you cuddling a newborn yet?!

owlbooty · 13/06/2011 15:18

Eeee. I remember the days when people used to come in here after their 12 week scans. Grin However can totally understand the nervousness plus now we have the splendid freak out room there's at least a stepping stone. It's once you have the bloody 12 week scan that you realise you're still going to be freaking out until the next one :)

Emoo nosebleeds, yow - annoyingly my iron levels were peachy at 12 weeks. They aren't terrible now (10.3) but I'm taking no chances.

Time for some stern words with MiniNix I think. We'll have none of this upside down nonsense! You turn around right now or I shall get out the tiny sardine I've got in reserve. Grin Also - OMG look how far up the list we are I might pack my hossie bag this week. Just in case Owlet decides to turn up early. I know that if I leave it up to Mr Boots to do an emergency pack I will end up with 16 pairs of pants that no longer fit round my arse, a baby hat and that's probably about it.

tiggersreturn · 13/06/2011 15:18

Collie start your thread in childbirth not pregnancy

holy f*ck

Emoo · 13/06/2011 19:03

Nix it could be worse... At least you don't have Mr Boots packing for you. Now owl, if he'd packed 2 hats you could string them together into a bra...

nickstermum · 13/06/2011 19:33

pmsl...:)

appleblossoms · 14/06/2011 08:25

Morning all...
owl when I joined this thread people were appearing before 12 weeks, freaking out and then joining the list after a successful scan! Grin
Good plan on getting your bag packed...as useful as they are for many things, emergency bag packing isn't really the strength of most men Grin
Isn't the weather wonderful this morning? Garden day I think...hopefully wear ds out so I can have a nice break later when he has a nap!
By the way...does anyone have any experience of big babies? This one was estimated to be just over 6lbs at 35 weeks, therefore between 8-9 lbs at term...and the longer the wait the more I worry he'll creep up to 10lbs+ !! Any nice reassuring stories of inaccurate scan measurements or big babies being born naturally with no intervention or tears?! Please?! Hmm

owlbooty · 14/06/2011 09:27

Buahahahah yes Emoo Grin

apple the measuring is absolute bollocks most of the time. If I had a quid for every mum who said to me on the ward 'they swore blind he was going to be 10lb...' I'd have, well, quite a lot of pounds :) Apparently they grow in fits and starts and it's not even at all. Ergo, your LO might have just had a growth spurt and now be calming down a bit?

owlbooty · 14/06/2011 09:29

Also, apple , the biggest baby we ever had on the ward whilst I was there was just over 5000g (i.e. about 11lb) - born naturally, no damage to Mum. Apparently it was a really easy birth and gravity did most of the work :)

appleblossoms · 14/06/2011 09:39

owl you've made my day!! Will try and relax now....

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/06/2011 10:38

Can I ask when you are supposed to pack your hospital bag? What if I haven't bought anything by then!? Grin

Am visiting MIL today... preparing myself for hours of baby talk and to be told how big I am now Hmm

I, too, overdid it yesterday. Moved some furniture around and did quite a bit of walking. Left me feeling exhausted, eyes sore, bump sore, flashing lights in front of my eyes. We ended up with chinese for tea as neither of us could be bothered to cook.

Suffering terribly with constipation and heartburn and to top things off my washing machine is leaking.

Wonderful hey.

Hope everyone else is ok :)

Oh and apple, my DD was 9lb 3 1/2oz. She came out looking 3 months old! Grin I needed an episiotomy and a ventouse but I think that was because I physically didn't know how to push. Apparently I was pushing in my stomach not in my bum. I found it really hard to imagine needing a poo when I actually didn't!! Grin And IME, as others have said, the scan estimations of weight are never right.

Emoo · 14/06/2011 11:27

Apple - in my (limited) experience, birthweight has bugger all to do with chances of tearing. My mum says I was a big baby (i.e. 10-pounder) and I caused no trouble at all. On the other hand, DD was less than 3 pounds and I got a 2nd degree tear. I think the speed of delivery and time available for stretching also has a lot to do with the chances of tearing.

Owl and Nix - I have had second thoughts about the bra comment. On reflection (looking at current boobage), if my baby's head ends up being the same size as either of those, I am in BIG trouble. Grin

Oh dear coconuts sounds like you are having a crappy day . I wouldn't worry about the hospital bag in the slightest. Last time round I had bought practically nothing, and certainly had no bag packed. Trust me, if things happen unexpectedly and early, lots of people will rapidly appear on the scene desperate to Do Something To Help, and they can usefully be sent off in all directions to acquire toothbrushes / various absorbent padding materials / breast pumps / magazines - a win-win situation as they are happy to help, and you are happy to receive help, and they are out there doing their bit rather than hanging round the hospital too much.
