Hello all, especially the newbies. Always good to see new people popping over....and now owl's got her stapler out you'll be staying here! Grin

Nothing exciting to report here....lots of branstons, some verging on being painful, but think that's just going to be how things are from now on. Am clinging to the hope that it will mean a quick actual labour when things start.

Am feeling a little calmer now too. Realised there's nothing I can do at this stage, just gotta trust it's going to work out right. Baby will come one day soon...and fingers crossed it will all goes smoothly, and if it doesn't, it's not like worrying now is going to make any difference at all. and strangely that's making me feel more relaxed about it all! Have settled in for the long haul, booked a mw appointment next week when I'll hopefully get a sweep...so just waiting until then.

izz glad you had a good holiday, what beautiful weather we have for you to come back to! Hmm

orange sorry you're feeling sick again Sad hopefully it is just a bug, or just baby moving to squish your stomach in a different way?

Can't believe your ex daisy! Agree with the others, lovely new dress/top to flatter bump and some new makeup.

sorry for not catching up with you all properly this time.... there's always next time Grin

Right, time to put my feet up and watch the tennis... maybe the excitement of a murray match will encourage miniapple to make an appearance........or maybe not!

PinkFondantFancy · 09/06/2011 09:21

brian has been going around causing trouble in other places too: thread

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/06/2011 09:52

Hi, thanks for the welcome Owl. I am top of the list in the FO room so figured I'd better bugger off or I might be there til I'm full term. Usually I would put an "if I get there" comment in but am refraining today Grin

DH came home last night with a donated bag of newborn clothes from a friend at work.

They are still in the hall where he left them as I refuse to look at them and he refuses to put them away until I look at them. Am doing housework today so will swiftly hoover round them... Hmm

PinkFondantFancy · 09/06/2011 10:17

Hello all

collie I was chatting to a MW at the hospital yesterday (more about that later...) about homebirths and she was really in favour of them too. I think I'd be too chicken as even in good traffic my nearest hospital is a half hour away but she reckons that the MW would pick up any problems earlier rather than later and homebirths are all good..... Oh and normal maxis are fine I think, or at least they are for me for now, but this maternity one is in jersey fabric so doesn't look as huge and darlek like as cotton maternity maxis IYSWIM?

orange my MS is back a bit too. Are you tired? Mine is definitely much worse if I'm tired.

Huge waves to coconuts and cep - lovely to see you here!

izz and mamap hope you had a lovely holidays!

Sooooooo news over here is that my course of antibiotics has finished now but I still have the burning fanjo from hell. I'm also completely exhausted and can't stay awake for more than a couple of hours at a time. My MW suggested that went over to the maternity day assessment unit to see what they think rather than seeing the GP, so off I went. They were completely lovely, and I would definitely not think twice about going back there if I was ever worried about not feeling Minipink moving for a while. They've taken bloods and swabs and hopefully the results will be back next week. Was slightly harrowing though as to see the Dr to have swabs done I had to go to the delivery suite triage Shock SCARY PLACE!!! There was another lady on the other bed in the triage room who was overdue and was having contractions and was yelling the place down every time she had a contraction. However, she also yelled her head off when they tried to take blood - you would seriously have thought they severed her arm to get a sample, so that boosted my confidence that fingers crossed maybe I can deal with labour afterall! Confused

PinkFondantFancy · 09/06/2011 10:19

Oh coconuts I felt like that too - maybe just pull one outfit out of the bag and have a look? In my head it's giving me something to aim for - a little person to fit the little outfit if that doesn't sound too barking mad??

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/06/2011 11:29

Pink - I picked the bag up and sniffed it to see if the people they've come from were clean Hmm and put it back down.

TMI prob but had a tinge of pinky red upon wiping last night post-sex. Should I be worried about that? Was literally one wipe and none since. Am rhneg tho. Surely it doesn't constitute enough of a bleed to need an antid?

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 09/06/2011 11:41

coconuts usually I would say one wipe after sex is not a problem - things can get more irritated than usual with sex during pg. But I don't know anything about rh neg so loathe to tell you to ignore it - maybe just give mw a call to set your mind at rest?

pink sorry about the fanjo from hell Sad. Glad theday assessment unit were friendly though; they're usually pretty nice and hopefully will get to the bottom of it..

mamap hope you had a lovely holiday.

Well I'm breathing a bit easier here today; been for a scan this morning (about 15 and a half weeks) and all was fine. Good strong heartbeat, nice wriggly baby, measuring right for dates. Seeing as the baby stopped growing at 14 weeks last time, this is a bit of a milestone for me. I know I've got a long way to go yet, and anything could happen, but I am starting to think that maybe there just might be a baby at the end of it all Smile

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/06/2011 12:43

Izzy - I would love to call my MW... But the phones only connect between 9 and 10am. Pretty useless IMO. I couldn't call this morning as was rushing round trying to get DD to playschool on time. I'm not overly worried. I had brown goo after sex once before at 11 weeks and I called and she said not to worry so I think I'll just go with that. Glad your scan went ok, really good news :)

Pink - Hope the aggravation clears up soon. It's awful isn't it.

PinkFondantFancy · 09/06/2011 14:35

izzy fantastic scan news! So pleased for you xx

coconuts I would give your day assessment unit a call (number should be on the front of your notes) - they have been absolutely fantastic and they'll be able to give you advice over the phone. What did the clothes smell like?? Take one out, I dare you Grin Sorry, I'm not making light of it as I know exactly how you feel, it's just that once I overcame that obstacle of touching baby clothes it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/06/2011 14:58

They smelt washed, but like they'd been the drawer ages IYKWIM. So not fresh linen. I'll obviously wash them again when I'm 40+3 or something ridiculous Grin

I really don't dare. I feel like I'll jinx it. I'm so stupid. Practically 6 months pregnant and still acting like I'm 6 weeks. Hmm - My fave smiley of the day today apparently!

Day assessment... thanks will look. :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 09/06/2011 15:50

Called Assessment Unit who had no idea. Told me to call Labour Ward. Who told me to call GP who told me to call community midwife who told me to call labour ward. I have to have an anti-d. Can't get there though so have to go in first thing in morning.

Obviously it will take hours to do a ten minute job.

Best to be safe than sorry though I suppose.

nickstermum · 09/06/2011 16:36

YEY for good scan Izz xx

owlbooty · 09/06/2011 20:24

Hoorah Izzy :) That is ace news, so pleased for you. x

Coconuts bloody hell; they have sent you all round the houses - I guess at least you know the answer now should it happen again. It does seem to be awfully common. Hopefully you won't end up stuck at the hossie for hours.

Pink you poor lovely; hope something good comes of all the swabbing and testing and you get something to make you feel better.

PinkFondantFancy · 09/06/2011 21:38

coconuts you're not stupid, I think it's natural to feel that way. What an arse about the hospital - I guess most likely it's that sex has irritated your cervix but that it's safer to give you anti-d anyway. I'm rh neg too - another reason why my sex life has gone entirely out of the window Confused Sorry everyone was so unhelpful today. I think the anti-d thing confuses almost everyone :(

owly main good thing to come out of it though is on the trace they mark every time the baby moves - it is a proper little wiggler but I felt hardly any of its movements, v. weird. I remember you saying the same thing when owlet was being badly behaved.

tiggersreturn · 09/06/2011 23:07

Collie - try starting threads here about local hospitals. You'll get all the dirt on them.

OP posts:
crochetcircle · 10/06/2011 12:24

welcome to all the newbies - our list was getting a little short so its about time a few more came over. Hope everyone else is well and enjoying your pregnancies. Weather is dismal here, but at least when its cooler there is less swelling of extremities.

I'm 39+6 and no signs of anything happening today. If my bump gets any lower it will be by my knees! Seeing the mw this afternoon and think I will ask if she will do a sweep - I really feel ready to be on the other side of this pregnancy now, not sure I can face another two weeks of this although I have been very productive doing admin and the like.

special good luck wishes to apples - hope you are holding up OK buddy.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 10/06/2011 13:38

Well after everyone being pretty useless over the phone yesterday, they redeemed themselves this morning. Arrived at hospital at 1015. They were already expecting me and by half ten I had had my urine, BP, fetal hb, belly prodded and blood taken. Had to wait 45 minutes for bloods to come back to confirm if antibodies were present. DR came, checked cervix, took swabs, MW did jab and home for lunch. Free teas and coffees and biscuits provided. Was amazingly efficient. Really impressed.

Hope you get the sweep crochet, the last week or so is a drag.

Owl & pink- yes very common, but definitely not going to aggravate my poor cervix any more. half hour (!) of pleasure isn't worth the drama.

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 10/06/2011 13:57

Oh and can I add myself to the list? Is the one on page one the most recent? perhaps someone can put me on it, I don't want to mess it up if you have an order to it.

appleblossoms · 10/06/2011 15:14

Great news on scan izzy hope the next few weeks pass uneventfully so you can relax even more.
coconuts sorry for the stress of a bleed, but glad the hospital made up for it today. It's good when you have nice experiences like that.
crochet i'm the same! Completly cleaned the upstairs of my house yesterday...am hoping that extreme nesting is a good sign, but other than that nothing exciting happening. Hope you get the sweep...i'll be having one next week so want to here positive stories please! Wink
pink I hope the swabs come back with something nice and simple and easily treated so you can be a little more comfy again.

PinkFondantFancy · 10/06/2011 15:26

Urgh something horrible has happened to my brain. Just phoned the surveyor to discuss the house we're hoping to buy and the conversation went like this Me:"Hi it's pink I'm fine thanks how are you?" Him:"Er, I'm fine thanks, glad you're ok too"..... Blush Blush

coconuts fab news that the hospital was so helpful this morning!

I'm supposed to cut down on refined sugar and dairy to help my fanjo calm down. That would be why I've just eaten an entire bag of haribo then..... Confused

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 10/06/2011 15:30

Pink Grin I do that all the time. It's like I'm thinking ahead to the next part of the convo and answer it before it's even said Blush

Mmmm haribo! :) :)

owlbooty · 10/06/2011 16:48

Afternoon lovelies :)

Crochet I keep trying to persuade them all over from the freak out room but clearly I haven't placed enough tempting snacks in this room Grin Hope things get moving for you soon; I am only 32 weeks and have already had enough of the waddling and wheezing.

Coconuts excellent that the hospital were so organised - it is so hit and miss with the NHS. Having said that, generally the care I've had so far has been very good (once I'd swapped my GP for one who actually knew what she was talking about).

Have had 31 week check today (a week late). Owlet is measuring 33 weeks, booted the doc when she tried to work out which way up he was, and all is well. Once again, I thanked my lucky stars and walked away feeling that teensy bit more relaxed about the whole thing - I still see each week we get through as a major achievement.

LaraMi · 10/06/2011 16:56

Hello Ladies... Can I momentarily gatecrash? (before I pick up the courage to join you all in a few weeks time... Currently 16 weeks but too chicken to join until I either hear baby's heartbeat again or have my 21 week scan... )...

I have a question for Pink - are you getting a doula? I have been chatting away for the past 30 mins with Collie in the other thread as I am considering one and she said I ought to ask you as she seemed to think you're also considering one... If so, then would be great to get your perspective on how much continuous support you think they will provide as well as perhaps being able to help us make the right decisions on having the right birth when I probably won't be best positioned too... My hospital is so far pretty slack but I won't make a final decision until I've had more MW appointments in case I'm pleasantly surprised later on. I won't bore everyone else with my reasons why (have gone on about it ad nauseum in the freak-out room) but would be grateful for your thoughts, Pink (or anyone else considering / getting a doula)

PinkFondantFancy · 10/06/2011 17:32

owl fab news on measuring well at your check. Good to know owlet is still up to his usual tricks Grin

larami collie is right except i subsequently went a step further and booked an independent midwife.... Blush when you look at the price of these you might think this is ridiculously extravagant and that Brian really has taken over but there were a couple of reasons.. 1) I was getting v panicky about being left alone when I go into hospital due to a dodgy appendicitis incident a couple of years ago where I think I'm prob lucky to still be alive and have a senile fellow patient to thank for that (long story....) but anyway, shook my trust in how well you're being monitored once you get there. My MW will come to hospital with us and although can't be the primary care giver, acts as my advocate (as a doula would) 2) she does all my antenatal appointments at home at super convenient times 3) she's available 24/7 on the phone 4) she's the only way of guaranteeing a home birth if that's what I choose to do, as the NHS can decide there are too few MWs available on the day 5) she provides post natal care and from what I've heard from others, this is where she'll come into her own as the NHS can be somewhat lacking in breastfeeding help. But a doula may also do this too I think 6) my colleagues were very strongly advocating an entire private birth after a particularly horrible birthing experience that onr colleague's DP had. However, the budget definitely doesn't stretch anything like that far, and I felt this was a halfway house. 7) I felt that having an advocate there on the day that both DH and I are comfortable with will hopefully make for a more relaxed birth and take pressure off DH. (again, doula could do this)

So in summary, I really hope she turns out to be nothing more than an expensive insurance policy and that on the day eveything will go so smoothly that she was superfluous. I would definitely consider
getting a doula or IM though-I started a thread on pregnancy a while ago and not a single person regretted doing it.

I've got a feeling that lia on the postgrads board might be a doula?

I hope this helps, sorry it's a bit of a brain dump-on phone so paragraphs a bit lacking!! Shout if you want any other info
