CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 11:43

wombat we looked the Bee and based on the Which review was v excited as it seemed it tick all the boxes. But once we'd seen itbwe didn't like it. Inputted this on the FO room as Lara asked why. She cannrobsbky offer sn alternative view though as I think she's opted for the bee.

When we had a mess around with the bee I just really disliked it. big bonus of the bee is it's size, the fact it's so lightweight and that it folds with the seat very compact. BUT I thought it felt really quite flimsy. I also didn't like the cocoon, which is the bees equivelent to a Carry cot. But it's not completely flat for the baby to lie on, which I think is important. And I didn't think it look very secure. I seemed like a bit if a sleeping bag perched on the seat. I got the impression that the bee is a good pushchair but not necc the best travel system especially if to be used from birth. I think the cameleon is bulky but most travel systems are, that's the down side to them. Although the chameleon has poor off road reviews from Which, most parent reviews rate it well.

owlbooty · 13/07/2011 12:04

Hoorah Izzy that is fab news Grin So pleased for you - it's a big hurdle and now you are firmly on the other side of it!

I also looked at the Bee and decided I couldn't spend that much money on a pram as I know damn well by the time he's barely toddling he'll have grown out of it and I'll be using one of those cheapo fold-up buggies instead. I really like the travel system I have bought (Babystyle Oyster/maxi Cosi car-seat) as it fits in the boot of tiny car and seems fairly robust - the carrycot is pretty large so I'm hoping that will last a while before we have to move on to the seat thingy instead. Not sure how it would perform off-road but my main concerns were fitting it in the car and on the bus.

velvet - I found plenty of water, the odd bag of crisps and at least one banana a day helped hugely. The bananas apparently have something in them that stops cramps. Don't know what it is but it worked a treat :)

PinkFondantFancy · 13/07/2011 13:13

Ooooh I will try your banana suggestion owly-this morning I woke up with hideous cramps in my calf and was making such a fuss that DH thought I was having the baby Hmm doesn't bode well for the big day methinks!!

I wad planning on using the free Boots changing bag too! A girl at yoga told me that a top tip is to put something personal like a ribbon on the bag though, as if you go to any mum and baby groups there will be an enormous pile of identical bags Grin

Hehe sieve/poo chat is making me laugh. I don't think you have to fish the poo out yourself-I think the midwife does that for you so at least that's one less thing to worry about! I am actually quite Envy of this chat TBH..... Reason being is that I would love love love a water birth but my hospital has just one birthing pool, and it's luck of the draw whether you end up in that one delivery room, and i dont rate the odds in September. Sad Apparently they don't keep that room specifically for women that want water births so if there's someone in there that's not using it, they won't swap rooms with you. V frustrating as it means that I'm almost certain to be denied the way I'd like to labour. I could have a homebirth which would allow me to use a birthing pool but I'm just not comfortable with that, so hospital it is. Sad

daisy so pleases daisybean was ok when you went to check. Definitely better to get it checked out.

tigger fantastic news on the impending maternity leave!

I have been very good and haven't had a pork pie or magnum for days!! I actually neeeed one though-can't stop thinking about it!! I might crack into a fried egg sarnie to distract myself Grin daisy did you get involved in the reduced pork pies? Luckily for you it's a long trip for me too so there should have been some left for you Grin

Things have improved a bit on the constipation front. Just for reference in case anyone else ends up in this sorry state, eating an entire bag of prunes won't do anything to shift it, but will give you horrendous toxic gas and trapped wind..... Just saying!! I am currently trying nanabigmac 's suggestion of hot water, and will try some tinned fruit later.

Sorry collie no suggestions on the cinema front-DH and I were thinking about going the other night but everything looked rubbish. On the upside we're only a month away from the Inbetweeners movie coming out-can't wait!!!

YRMOTB sorry they all come with jelly but the m&s ones don't seem to have too much jelly. Plus normally I hate the jelly but weirdly I don't seem to mind it now. Wrong wrong wrong!!!

owly and daisy my tankini bottoms are vast too. And they're getting too tight.... Blush collie my arse and bump and growing in proportion too. On the bright side at least it helps with balance [ grin]

coconuts fab news on the GTT!

collie daisy and YRMOTB so sorry to hear about your DH's experiences :(

daisy I think it's just sinking in for my DH too. He is getting panicy that we won't get the car seat until the end of the month and wants me to pack a hospital bag. Actually so does my mum so maybe it is time afterall I am still totally in denial that the day of giving birth will ever come!

izzy fab news on the scan!! Grin

velvet sorry about your work, that is naff :(

orange nor had I until about a week ago. I have no idea how to feed or change a baby. I am hoping NCT classes are going to assume this level of cluelessness!

lara not sure, maybe about 24 weeks? It had been becoming a shallower and shallower innie, then plateaued for a while and the suddenly popped out! Oh and on garlic, I did a lot of googling of that stuff when I had the fanjo infection and turns out some people put whole cloves of garlic in their fanjo after stitching thread into the clove so you don't lose it to try and get rid of strep b...... Hmm definitely don't do garlic supplements though, read some scary stuff on the internet about their side effects in pregnancy.

bigmacandhappymeal · 13/07/2011 16:08

I am still giggling about garlic fanjo experimentation. I bought the mumsnet preggo book about 6 weeks ago and there is a mention in there from a poster about the stringed-clove-up-fanjo approach for thrush. Still not a convincing argument though!

Izzy - hurrah! Great news! FX that your placenta has the good sense to hitch itself up over the next few weeks - plenty of time. The quality of the pictures is amazing - did MiniIzzy look at you? Ours did and looked like Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas!

Orange We also have an envelope containing HappyMeals sex. I don't know how long I'll be able to hold out for.

Velvet that's crap re work. I take it they are not open to negotiation at all? However, your sister's fanjo-shyness made me roar. I'm only 20 weeks and if someone asked me on the bus if they could see mine, I might consider it. Might.

Daisy very interesting re bereavement. MrBigMac's dad died when he was 8 so I wonder if it will throw up any issues for him... will find a way to gently introduce it

Pink do consider lactulose - it also really helped me. There is also only one pool where I am planning to go. I'm thinking that you can only book it for your due date and even then it's odds or sods whether someone will already be in it so trying not to get too attached to the idea.

Warning - baby wipes also take any colour off of leather sofa's. Evil as well as helpful.

Nickster I'd be really interested to hear what you thought of the doula after your meeting. I'm seriously considering it.

I've reserved my place on an NCT class in October Shock

What a funny day on this thread - Greenpeace rescue for beached whales, poo, inappropriate garlic application to fanjo's ...

bigmacandhappymeal · 13/07/2011 16:10

ps bellybuttons. WTF? Mine is an innie and is feeling shallower. I daren't look on google. Did it hurt when it popped out (I'm squeamish about feet and bellybuttons and for some reason this hadn't occured to me before)?

PinkFondantFancy · 13/07/2011 16:13

Thanks bigmac, I'll go to the chemist and get some. PMSL at your willingness to consider showing randoms your fanjo Grin. Oh bellybutton didn't hurt, just looks a bit weird. Just don't prod it to see if it will go back - it hurts then..... :)

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 13/07/2011 16:50

Hello,

I fear I have missed too much for personals. Apols, although funny chat going on here today :)

My inny belly button has been flat and not inwards since I was about 16weeks. Although I am massive so I think mine came out alot earlier than it should have! Now, all my stretchmarks from DD are coming back up really strongly and my skin is that tight that it actually looks translucent around my belly button. Sexiness personified I am!!

I vaguely remember a thread on here, possibly in chat, abut smeone who stuck a clove of garlic up her fanjo to try and cure a bout of thrush. Was hilarious reading! It may be in classics but if not it was probably deleted after however many days they last in there.

Glad I have turned you all into Lamaze addicts! I should be on comission!!

No need for a seive here, as no water birth, but I do know that crapping during labour is a must. Apparently it proves you are pushing correctly. When in labour with DD I was petrified of doing a poo (I have poo issues) Hmm . I couldn't get the push right either and ended up with a ventouse. MW told me after I didn't poo but I should have done if I'd done it right. Which I didn't obviously. So everyone, push like you're doing a poo Grin

Re Cramp in legs - I keep getting it in my calves if I stretch my leg too fast and I really suffer with Restless Legs at the mo. It seems to only come on when I wsant to go to sleep. Angry

Great news on scan izzy :) :)

OrangeGloss · 13/07/2011 16:50

Pink good tip with the bag, I just got back with it, not as fancy-looking as some but it'll do the job for now at least :) it's rubbish that they don't have more pools. My local has 5 rooms and 2 pools, better odds but only low risk so will wait and see what miniO does

I haven't packed a bag but now have things in piles which I'm feeling quite pleased with - are you meant to wash everything? Boots have snuggle towels reduced to a fiver very nice btw :)

We've done labour/birth in our NCT and have breastfeeding and babies/cs to come Hmm

My bellybutton didn't hurt, but I am starting to feel a bit 'stretched' in the bump area in general

CollieandPup · 13/07/2011 16:58

My belly button is still an inny, but much shallower already too!

Right that's it, I'm not eating running up to
my edd, so there is no pooing myself!! Sad

bigmacandhappymeal · 13/07/2011 17:29

Oh no! Don't google pooing during birth!! I fear what you might find!

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 13/07/2011 17:34

bigmac what does it say? Don't make me google it myself!!

I have just read an email update thingy which has tld me that should my baby be born now it would have a 95% chance of survival. Wow.

bigmacandhappymeal · 13/07/2011 17:40

Sorry - haven't looked myself, but my over-active imagination helped fill in the blanks :) I'm far too cowardly. You look and brief us afterwards. Go on Wink

cep · 13/07/2011 18:41

evening ladies. glad everyone is ok. glad scans have gone well.

cep · 13/07/2011 18:44

oh and does anyone know how to stop mn from e-mailing everytime theres a message?

CollieandPup · 14/07/2011 10:57

Morning ladies.

velvet work sounds crap and boss is an arse! You know it's really unacceptable that they are treating you differently (and more negatively) bcs you are pregnant and it is illegal. I suppose it's understandable they are trying to put a timetable together that is managable whilst you're off but it's not acceptable that the impact is that the quality of your work deteriorates AND the time-pressure increaes! With regards to the time, have you had your risk assessment? Maybe work asking for it- they are olbliged to do one.

I see from the list we have a couple of ladies due any day! How exciting!

Had a major case of branston hicks last night during a walk! Thought I just really needed a wee at first! Pup has been super active today and yesterday too, and dh has managed to feel lots of kicks so I'm very Smile

I miss real coffee!!!!

harassedandherbug · 14/07/2011 11:10

Hi ladies, thought I'd pop over and say hello after being nudged by Collie. I'm 17 weeks today now, and huuuuge!

LaraandLittleBean · 14/07/2011 11:14

Morning Ladies

Didn't log on yesterday so it was an absolute treat to come on this morning and catch up on a couple of pages worth of pure juice. I was in hysterics for most of it. I am sorry that my posts were a little uncouth - I promise I'm not that low-brow in RL!

I have forgotten who said what so sorry for lack of personals...

Did remember Izzy's awesome scan news - well done m'lady... A friend asked me if I am "excited for my scan" and told me to "enjoy it"... WTF and how TF???? Do people in RL not realise how horrifically scary those things are for us?!

OMG - people put garlic up there for real???? Are they insane... Actually, I did assure you I am not uncouth in RL but I do have one more (last one, I promise) uncouth thing to share... Popped into Waitrose the other day and as I waited in the queue I saw that the girl in front of me was buying the following items (and I stress only buying the following items, nothing else): "intimate feminine" wipes, femfresh, femfresh wipes, vagisil wash AND vagisil spray... EUCH... I told DH and the poor thing was so mortified, he had to wait for me outside the store... (I now wonder if she was resorting to such measures after trying out the garlic remedy). I mean, IF you were buying THAT many (and that diverse a range) of, erm, feminine products, wouldn't you at least try to hide a couple of them under half a dozen eggs and some bread????

I can't google "pooing during birth" as I am on the work server... (hard at work from home). Actually, for some reason, it doesn't scare me - I am more scared about my fanjo ripping.....

Now terrified about my belly button (a deep innie) popping out. (Oh well - on the bright side, at least it will be an opportunity to give it a good clean...)

Great idea re using dog wipes to clean off erm, dog snot. We have two Shar Pei and they make quite a mess on the beautiful magnolia walls in our hallway. I tend to use washing up liquid and a sponge. I had to after DH accidentally caught me one day cleaning it off with nail polish remover (and stripping off the aforementioned beautiful magnolia paint).

Went swimming this AM. Started day dreaming and then accidentally forgot to stop swimming. Thighs are now killing. Oops. Actually am worried how I will get out of the pool in the coming weeks. The steps are those old school ones where you have to hoist yourself up them to get out (as opposed to the lovely gentle steps you have on the edge of a hotel pool). I have to admit I did huff, puff and heave my increased body weight out this AM and am worried I'll get stuck in the pool further down the line. WTF would I do??? I'd have to stay in the pool until it emptied completely and then somehow get out on my bottom. But the steps are narrow and my butt is widening. Oh dear.... After swimming this AM I had to go through the trauma of changing in the communal changing rooms (only one cubicle at Fitness First and I missed it). Anyone else feel like a hippo next to all the slender, beautifully toned, teeny-weeny gym bodies?? I now bring an ENORMOUS bath sheet from home that I can engulf my humungous mass in. (Maybe people will think I have a teeny weeny gym body under my towel-tent).

Re buggy talk, we're still set on the Bee but I am limited due to boot space (after buying my f*ck-it Mini Clubman only three days before getting my BFP). The Cameleon is a thing of beauty but we have a narrow hallway and I think I wouldn't use the carrycot due to lack of boot space.

Re constipation, quite bizarrely, the only thing that helps my constipation is erm, a phone conversation with my mum. God knows what the hell happens to my body (something weird must've happened in my childhood) but whenever I speak to her, I need to go and have a crap... (I guess I'll have to ring her as labour starts.)

Right - enough of my blabbing... Sorry for taking up so much space with nonsense

owlbooty · 14/07/2011 11:58

Excellent; Lara you should distribute your mum's phone number to those in here who are suffering! Grin

Thankfully my local pool has proper steps. I think I could probably still get out if they didn't but it would not be elegant, let's put it like that. But isn't that what lifeguards are for?

cep I have no idea I'm afraid; I am a complete luddite and spend a lot of my time hopelessly searching for ways to turn things off and failing :)

Hello dear :) Welcome to the whale sanctuary Grin

Re. pool births. I really want one as have spent most of the last six months sitting in the bath anyway and my hips are beyond shite now so anything that takes the weight off them and allows me to move about has got to be a good thing. My local hospital has one pool on delivery suite and one in the MLU. The MWs assure me that it is exceptionally rare that anyone who wants a pool birth doesn't get one - and in my own experience, the pool on the MLU/ward I used to work on was rarely used so anyone who did want it, tended to get it. Even if they say they don't 'save the room', I suspect they will occupy it last.

Anyhoo. As you know I'm planning a home birth and a big part of the reasoning behind that was that I definitely get a pool. And as many fried egg butties as I require. If it all goes tits up and I end up at the hospital the chances are I won't be allowed near a pool anyway because of whatever has gone tits up. Que sera, sera etc. The boy is officially fully baked on Sunday. I am still in complete denial that I am about to have a baby. I never thought I'd get this far and it's freaking me out in a whole new and alarming way Shock

CollieandPup · 14/07/2011 12:53

Just a quick post to say i've put a thread in the pg board on accruring annual leave during mat leave. I was told by my employer i wasn't entitiled to this and on googling was really suprised at the variance of practice and how few women got to accrue these.

Anyway, I got a bee in my bonnet about it so did some digging and we ARE entitled to it. have a look at the thread and make sure you are getting your entitlement!

Grin
tiggersreturn · 14/07/2011 13:01

Collie - you accrue bank holidays as well or at least those that make up your basic holiday allowance (28 days pa for 5 days a week)

OP posts:
harassedandherbug · 14/07/2011 13:30

Thanks owl!

Collie def get holiday leave accrued whilst on mat leave. I'm planning on tagging a chunk onto the end of my ml, and hopefully the beginning if I've got any left.

On the subject of pool births, yuck! I tried it with dd, really thought I'd like it, but must have stayed in the thing for 10 mins. So not for me.

I'm planning a home birth this time around (dc4 for me!) as due on 22nd Dec and have been worrying that I'll go into labour on Christmas Eve. Dh and I will go to the hospital and dd (5) will be really upset and worried about Father Christmas finding her........ very daft and hormonal, but I feel better for having made the decision although dh is slightly freaked out. He keeps asking where I'm going to give birth [hgrin].

LaraandLittleBean · 14/07/2011 14:09

Good for you Collie - the bastards probably thought they could get away with it. The holiday leave makes a huge difference.

I plan to do the same as you Harassed - am now saving all my leave to use at the start (if poss) and then all next year's to tag on the end. Thankfully my due date enables that (if Monkey cooperates).

Owl - awesome that the boy is almost fully baked!

UrbanLolly · 14/07/2011 15:42

Hello lovely ladies!!
Have been loving the chat over the past few days....ESP the poop!!! I did goggle it hahahaha!!! GrinGrinGrin Didn't delve too deep but the first article by a midwife was quite reassuring.....its def a fear of mine as well as those pesky piles popping out to greet everyone BlushBlush I believe some poo escaped whilst pushing ds out but as the others have said the midwives are so quick & your mind is pretty much elsewhere!!!

So I had my sweep on Monday it was def not a fiddle more of a hoke.....bit tender afterwards & thankfully the piles behaved and stayed hidden Grin
But no sign of baby not even a niggle AngryAngry Ds was 7 days over also so I just hope something happens before my induction date 19th
It's such a weird place to be at the moment I was quite excited and kept taking out my baby bits to look at last week but now I can't even imagine a baby or what to do with one Hmm.

Lovely to see new faces arriving from the freak out room and all the good scan news
Keep up all the funny chat.... Although I'm running out of things to tell ds when I'm pmsl......!

Will let you all know when we have some movementConfusedConfused
XXXXXXX

ALovelyBunchOfCoconuts · 14/07/2011 17:01

As I never did a poo with DD and am becoming more open to idea with this one can someone shed some light on it please?

I have not and will not google, although I want to know something. If you do poo whilst giving birth, is it like a huge turd? or perhaps just a tiny rabbit dropping sized amount? What if it smells? What if a fart comes out too?

As an aside, I have a prescription issued for ferrous fumerate to pick up tomorrow for my anemia. Will prob get some Spatone as well and some orange juice. Can't be putting up with feeling this exhausted much longer.
