crochet those booties and poncho are the sweetest things I have ever seen!!!

CEP and wiw I felt what I thought were flutterings at about 18 weeks for a couple of days, but then nothing at all again until about 22 weeks ish when I got a big kick, but it's only been these last few days (i'm 26 weeks now) that I've felt anything regularly. Hope that helps. Good luck for your upcoming scan CEP

Daisybell1 · 21/06/2011 17:57

Aw, thank you all re the knitting! I do get easily bored though - I've abandoned the stripey cardie yet again today, because I'm sooooo sick of the stripes, and moved onto the green flared cardie - its in plain stitch and one colour so I can watch the tennis at the same time.

That poncho looks fab - it would be very cute in fluffy wool. Easy is good!

Here are the ugg booties which are completely easy and adorable. I have a brown mottled bamboo wool to make them in so orders happily taken!

Crochet I don't currently crochet but would love to. I tried a bit a few weeks ago but have forgotten completely how to do it. I like the idea of it being more portable than knitting though. I also have a patchwork quilt I need to make up, plus the fabric for the next one too (but just don't know what project to go for).

WIW I didn't get any movements at all until about 19 weeks, and then it was only like a random muscle spasm deep down in my fanjo area. It continued like this for weeks, and I mean weeks, and only in the last 10 days or so has it got a bit stronger. She's still transverse so the prods are either side, not top and bottom if that makes sense.

Velvetcu · 21/06/2011 18:22

Hellooo ladies

So glad to see more people over here :)

On the movements discussion - I had flutters from 16 weeks, big boots from 20 weeks and now its pretty nonstop (22wks) but my placenta is high posteria. We had our scan on Friday. We were told at early gender assessment scan at 12 weeks it was blue, turns out it's actually a pink one! Like Daisy I'm a bit freaked by this although I am looking forward to having a little minivelvet rock chick :D

I too am v. impressed by the knitting action. I can knit straight lines of plain but that's it. How difficult is it to learn knitting/crocheting? I quite fancy taking it up. I'm not an ugg fan but those knitted ones are soooo cute!

I hope everyone is good - it's been a mammoth task catching up with news and I have forgotten most of what's on a page before I've got to the end of it!

Wombat33 · 21/06/2011 20:40

Evening all! All this talk of knitting is making me feel very lazy! I thought I'd done quite well just getting around to buying a few bits for miniwombat at the weekend Grin What with work, hen party organising and house move stress I think I may have to pass on the knitting bit but I'm in awe of those of you who are finding the time!!

Congrats on joining team pink Velvet even if it was a bit of a surprise. and well done on buying the dress Daisy!!! If your DH doesn't wan to know flavour, how are you hiding all this stuff?

Had my 28 week MW appointment today (28+3). Apparently, I'm measuring 30cms, so at least not too small, which is what I was worried about (everyone keeps commenting on how small I am, but I guess it's because I'm quite tall and it's a first baby). Urine test still shows infection, but less than on Friday and I'm only halfway through the antibiotics so hopefully they're doing the trick. I also survived the 28 week blood test [total whimp emoticon] so now have to wait a few days to find out if my periodic breathlessness is due to low iron levels. MiniWombat still transverse (come on girlie - turn!) Grin

I have a question for you all, when it comes to blood pressure, how low is too low? Mine's always been quite low (100/70 ish) but today was 90/60. The MW didn't seem particularly concerned, I just wondered if there were any risks if it falls further. I feel generally fine and I'm glad it's not sky-rocketing, 'cause obviously that would be a worry, I just wondered...

Crochet sending baby moving vibes your way xxx

Haven't heard from Izzy in a while..?

Anyone know how Mummya is getting on?

Wombat33 · 21/06/2011 20:41

PS Cep good luck for the scan tomorrow!

cep · 22/06/2011 07:16

morning, hope you all ok. wombat and velvet glad you're both doing well.

wombat i think the midwife would have said something if it got worryingly low. If it was too low you'd also be fainting everywhere.

Thanks wombat am a little nervous i used to be so excited about scan am hoping it comes back, am due for 2 more after today as i'm overweight i hope i'm excited about those ones.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/06/2011 07:25

I'm still here!!

Not much news here except that I am feeling (small) movements so that and the Doppler are keeping me sane. Very exciting to hear all the knitting news (I can't knit to save my life but my auntie has been frantically knitting away since she heard - I love to see babies in proper knitted things!). Also very exciting to hear of people finding out what they're having - congrats velvet on a surprise team pink! Smile. We are staying firmly team yellow, I have to admit I get quite curious but dh is adamant he doesn't want to know and I don't feel strongly enough about it to argue. I suppose the others were surprises and it was lovely, and this will be the last so we might as well finish how we started iyswim. Have to say though that it would be easier in terms of narrowing down names - we're ok for girls but I'm really struggling to find a boy's name that I love Confused

daisy hopefully you're starting to get used to the idea of a girl now (if not there's still plenty of time). It wasn't something I worried about beforehand but I was quite a girly girl and only had a sister so when ds was born I did have a moment of panic of "but I don't know what to do with boys!". But actually a baby's a baby and when they get bigger you know them well and just muddle along together. And not all girls are that girly anyway - dd loves pretty dresses and playing with toy make up but also loves tae kwon do and climbing/playing football with the boys.

crochet I am hoping baby decides to put in an appearance of its own free will this week but how lovely to know you'll definitely be meeting by the end of the week - will look out for your news Smile

pink I've also been looking into pregnancy yoga - have found two classes to choose from that fit around work. One is a straight pg yoga class so only an hour but is further away; the other is pg yoga and active birth techniques, 2 hours (!) but closer and I get the impression involves some element of encouraging people to get to know each other. 2 hours seems quite long but I'm tempted by that one as I could do with meeting others - I know plenty of mums with children the same age as ds and dd but they've all finished having babies now so I need to find more people on maternity leave at the same time as me! I would love to try pg pilates too but struggling to find a class that doesn't clash with work.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 22/06/2011 07:26

Oooh cep good luck for scan! Smile

OrangeGloss · 22/06/2011 08:39

Pink moving at 36 weeks?! MrPink better get working on his jobs! That's such a sweet thought about sleeping on my liver, dh liked it too :) glad the plan went well and you're going again
Lara I don't think one person can generalise for a whole nation either! I don't know what I'll be doing/saying but it'll be whatever helps!
Daisy apparently Center Parcs don't advertise the deal, they just told me when I rang up to ask about a Drs note. Not sure if you need to be staying there, but worth ringing and asking. Good luck with your secret knitting to keep the sex from dh, you've got me thinking I should pick it up again. Silly question, but do I need special wool for babies?
Cep I hope the scan goes well, mentalling is perfectly normal and reasonable
Crochet sorry to hear you can't finish your knitting, that is an adorable pattern you posted, do you think it'll work in neutral if you're team yellow? Easy is good, I haven't done anything in ages
Velvet wow congrats on team pink it must be strange to have one expectation to then be told something different
Wombat at 27+4 I measured 29cm which the MW was quite happy about, but have had people telling me my bump looks huge Shock Hmm !! My blood pressure is always around the same as yours and my MW isn't bothered maybe because it's been consistent and was that low pre-pg too, but don't know how low it would need to be to cause concern. C'mon miniwombat, get turning, loads of time yet though?
Izzy we're the same thinking of a pink and blue, but think we have our finalists. What kind of names do you like- classic, quirky etc? We liked Dylan but it's on the cover of the Boots parents club leaflet and it's now put us off

About movements, I'm expecting no.1 and had flutterings which felt insect-like at around 16 weeks, followed by a definite kick at 17+1. These weren't regular until about 20 weeks, but have been strong since 25 weeks with a couple that made me gasp so far at 28/29 weeks (with posterior placenta)

Thanks for the anniversary and holiday wishes, it's lovely here, we've had all sorts of wildlife on the patio so far including a badger Shock

Daisybell1 · 22/06/2011 09:10

Morning all!

Cep good luck for your scan - hope all's well.

Crochet sending masses of baby moving vibes and a truck load of pineapple your way.

Wombat hope all's ok with your blood pressure, I'm sure your MW would say if its too low....

Velvet Welcome to Team Pink I imagine it is a huge shock if you'd already been told Team Blue, so don't beat yourself up about that. Mini Rock Chick sounds fab!

Izzy those are very wise words about it being a baby when it arrives, not necessarily a pink bundle of frills. I'd certainly like to give her a broad range of activities, not just girly stuff.

Re the knitting - am stealth knitting!!! I have 'public' knitting - ie gender neutral stuff, and then I'll have to do anything pink/fluffy in private! Luckily my local charity shop sells needles for 20p a pair. Orange I'm sure that you're supposed to use proper baby wool with smaller needles, but I tend to just use standard double knitting wool (again charity shop does it for £1.30 a ball) with appropriate sized needles, and just follow the instructions for a smaller size (if that makes sense!)

crochetcircle · 22/06/2011 09:33

Morning all. Thanks for the baby moving wishes! I've had some period cramping at night the last two nights, but nothing ever develops and I feel better by morning.

orange I think the poncho is unisex, I made it in soft brown before we found out the sex and would have been just as happy to dress a boy in it. In terms of the pattern, Drops wool is very cheap and the trickiest bit is joining the hood at the neck on circular needles. It took me a few goes to get that bit right. But the rest of the pattern is very easy, and more importantly quick from the very thick wool.

I had to ask DH to move the bed covers for me last night as both my hands had frozen up! I'll be so glad when this is over. Anyone else suffering carpal tunnel yet? My whole NCT group had it bad.

cep · 22/06/2011 16:20

afternoon ladies, scan went really well, baby seems fine, everything looked normal. So relieved. Hope everyone is ok.

Wombat33 · 22/06/2011 16:25

Hurrah!! That's great news Cep!!

It's quiet around here today.....

cep · 22/06/2011 16:40

Thanks wombat seems to have been for the last few days.

I'm struggling to find large sized nursing and sleeping bras does anyone have any ideas. Mothercare doesn't go big enough.

appleblossoms · 22/06/2011 17:33

Hello all! I've tried a few times to catch up with you all but I keep getting distracted by one or other of my boys before I'm ready to post, so this time I'll keep it short but sweet.

Am loving all the knitting talk. I got into it when my nephew was born 5 years ago and love knitting baby outfits...

daisy I have a pair of those ugg boots I made whilst ttc ds1 but lost the pattern so was never able to make any more....so thanks for posting that, lots of my rl friends are pg at the moment...any girls will now be sporting ugg boots! Grin

orange you can use regular double knitting wool, but the baby stuff tends to be softer. budget wools in town does some cheapish stuff and the ladies are very friendly Grin

With movements, with ds1 it was definitely post 20 weeks...he was wriggling around on the scan and I couldn't feel a thing...this time round it was ridiculously early...14/15 weeks? so just goes to show how varied it can be.

Congrats on team pink velvet!

Can't believe this time last week I had no idea I was about to have a baby.... although rather embarrassingly for a 2nd timer I still didn't know at half ten an hour and a half before M was born! Contractions started about half eight, 3 mins apart straight away and not too painful, and since I've had strong braxton hicks for the last month I just kept assuming it was more of the same...called birth centre at half ten to ask their advice, at which point waters broke...with some meconium. cue emergency babysitter and off to the midwife unit. they were really lovely and let me stay there to get examined, and things sped up so much they decided they couldn't transfer me to the hospital as I'd probably give birth in the ambulance...so I got my birth in the birth centre and it was LOVELY! DH was allowed to stay the night too, so we snuggled down in the double sofa bed all three of us, was just perfect! orange I'd highly recommend it, PM me if you have any questions.

So that's us, M is gorgeous, feeds and sleeps so much better than ds1, which is a real blessing. and for any 2nd timers, toddler and newborn is SOOOOO much easier than toddler and heavily pregnant.

Will post this now before I lose it all again, and will try and keep popping in to see how you are all doing.

Special labour vibes to crochet, period cramps are a good sign...here's hoping they develop into a nice quick and easy labour.

waves to all

Emoo · 22/06/2011 18:22

Ooooh love the knitting pics - very envious of you all as I cannot knit to save my life! Maybe I should learn...? I'm very entertained by the idea of stealth knitting too Daisy !

Apple - you sound like you're doing beautifully - glad you have a gorgeous good sleeper!

Cep - congrats on the scan! Bras - try HotMilk? Depends on exactly how big you need though - I don't know what size Mothercare go up to.

Crochet - hope things move for you soon - carpal tunnel does not sound much fun.

Orange - very jealous of you being away in the countryside! I have only ever seen dead badgers by the side of the road - never seen a live one except on TV.

Izzy - hooraaaaayy for movements! I found it has got a lot easier to relax when I feel the odd wriggle to remind me. And I hope your DD is better soon.

Wombat - I wouldn't worry about your BP if you feel fine with it. I have just been declared anaemic at 24 weeks Sad... I think I didn't start in a very good place because of the recent MC blood loss... not to mention the pesky nosebleeds. I guess a lot of people end up on iron, but I'm not looking forward to the side effects.

Hope everyone else is well and happy!

OrangeGloss · 23/06/2011 08:26

Apples I'm so glad you have a good sleeper and you are all doing well, but not surprised you don't have time to catch up with a snuggly newborn. Also glad you got the birth you wanted, I'm going to go for a tour :)
Crochet poor thing hopefully not too much longer not had problems like that , the period pains seem like a good sign though
Cep yay for the good scan :) I don't know about larger size bras, but I went to jojo maman bebe and they were really helpful
Emoo YouTube was really helpful it took me an afternoon of pausing and rewinding but was ok(-ish) after that. Sorry about the iron tablets, it does seem common if that's any consolation, will they keep testing to see if your levels increase?

Thanks for the knitting advice, I'm going to make a start next week, might take me a while as I only learnt a couple of months ago from watching YouTube :)

I'm loving it here, we had a deer wandering our patio which was wonderful to watch. But can't have the patio doors open unsupervised as the ducks let themselves in Shock Grin

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 23/06/2011 09:53
CollieandPup · 23/06/2011 10:53

Morning Everyone,

Sorry I?ve been absent for a while. I had friends visiting at the weekend and so its been hard to catch up, although I have been lurking. Here goes, as I try and catch up?.

apples Yippee on the birth of your son!! How amazing. Hope you are enjoying every minute of it.

coconuts thanks for the advice on the cot / cot bed. Having thought about it a bit more I think I agree that the cot bed is the best option. There are no guarantees for us that we?ll have moved by the time a baby has out grown a cot (although I certainly hope to have) which would mean having to get rid of the cot and then buy one again with a 2nd child. Which is a waste as a cotbed will fit fine.

Thanks all for the pillow advice too. I?ve bought a dreamgenii off ebay (never one to turn my nose up an 2nd hand when it doesn?t matter) so at least I?m not paying over the odds for it.

blackkat I tried the mat leggings on in M&P and they were lush. At first I thought £22 for leggings was a bit expensive but I expect I?ll end up living in them so its worth the extra. Think I?ll go back and get some.

izzy I had my 16 week apt a couple of weeks back and don?t see her again until 25 weeks.

Daisy yay for team pink!!! How are you feeling about that now? I think the advice about it being born just a baby and a bundle of joy is just spot on. I hope that helps you. Well done you for buying a pinafore ? big step!! And v cute!! Very impressed with the knitting. And the ugg booties and sooooo cute. I want a pair!!

wiw I too feel completely ignorant about anything to do with the birth. I did try a few weeks back to do some research on home births v?s hospital v?s birthing centres but I?ve been busy since and didn?t get very far. Plenty of time I think, but its very daunting!

wiw funny you should ask about pregnancy pilates as I was googling pregnancy yoga yesterday. Found a couple of local places that do it so might give it a go. Do you think there is much difference between pregnancy yoga/pilates?

Crochet that poncho knitting pattern is gorgeous!!!I hope you are ok? Any sign of baby?

Wombat glad apt went well ? come one miniwombat TURN!!!

Its been quite reassuring reading about when you have all been feeling movement and kicks. I was sure I was feeling bits of movements around 15/16 weeks but then all went quite a week or so ago. Started to feel a few bits of movement (I think) yesterday and last night. Can?t think of what else it would be and after dopplering found pup in that place! Just really looking forward to having some stronger movements! When did people find their DH could feel movement. DH keeps asking, and I feel really bad for him. Every time I hold my tummy when I think I can feel something, it just disappears altogether!

I?ve been asking about bras on the FO room too. I?m a ?standard? size but really need to get fitted properly. JoJo Mama is a good suggestion of a place to go, although not sure there is one near me. Has anyone else got any other recommendations as a good place to go for a fitting.

hope you are doing ok sweet. I am sure everyday is still incredibly hard. You are never far from my thoughts. Hoping you get another bfp so very soon and don?t have to go down the IVF road again.

Having some major minor wibbles over here. Don?t; know if its because I?m nearing my previous dd, nearing my 20wk scan or getting near to the stage that poor dachs lost her beautiful twins, but I?m freaking out about everything. I have very wet knickers at the moment ? to the extent I am changing regularly. I now the most likely cause is just watery discharge, but can?t shake the fear its fluid. How do I

CollieandPup · 23/06/2011 11:00

know???? that should end how do i know??? doh!!!

DeterminedToGetDiffedDachs · 23/06/2011 11:30

collie if it were fluid there would most likely to be blood with it too, but if you're worried contact your midwife and run it past her. I'm sure everything is fine but FX you get some reassurance soon Grin

Wombat33 · 23/06/2011 11:37

Collie - am totally with you on your last concern. I asked the MW about it on Tuesday and she said it was totally normal. Doesn't help with the mentalling though!

I think my DH first felt movement around 20 weeks ish but only slight. I found if I lay in the bath she'd wriggle a bit and you could actually see my tummy move - that was easier for DH to see than trying to put his hand on it as she'd sense the cahnge in pressure or temperature or something and stop what she was doing Grin

Dachs how are you doing?? Have you got an op date for your knee yet? You mustbe off to Venice very soon now?? I hope you have a fab time. you so deserve it xxx

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 23/06/2011 19:18

apples sounds like an absolutely lovely birth, so glad it went as you wanted and it sounds like you already have a well-trained ds2 - perfect! Smile

collie I am with you on the pants Blush and I remember it from previous pgs. Have succumbed to using pant liners (just the "so slim" ones which aren't really noticeable but just enough to do the job!). I think it's pretty common. Oh the glamour of pregnancy!

orange I think Dylan is lovely - leave it a couple of weeks and I bet the leaflet will have been forgotten; in fact chuck it in the bin now! What other names are you considering?

There are some boys names I like, but I don't love iykwim, e.g Harry (but there are loads), Edward...I'm just not convinced. The dcs suggested James which is ok but with our surname makes a 50s icon that I'm not sure enough people have forgotten about yet! DS is Isaac, which was relatively unusual 8 years ago believe it or not! And which I have always loved, mainly for the meaning (laughter). So if you can think of any ideas throw them this way - I am definitely feeling uninspired!!

It's bizarre how one sex seems easier than the other isn't it? I've been down to 2 or 3 girls names for weeks!

nix and pink (have I got that right?!) hows the moving plans? It is a bit stressy, I moved at 32 weeks pg with dd, but it was so nice to be in before she arrived!

cep · 23/06/2011 20:40

evening ladies.

izzy we're the same we're pretty much sorted for a girls name but just cannot agree on boys names. The problem is i like long names which i then don't mind if are then shortened as a nickname. Dh would like the shortened name but refuse to have the longer name.

I'm sorry people are mentalling at the moment. I haven't felt any movement since the scan, but i have my fat girl consultant tomorrow and last time (with ds) he used doppler so hoping he'll do it again tomorrow.

Daisybell1 · 23/06/2011 22:42

Evening all, I'll post properly tomorrow but in the meantime, look at these patterns!

baby pod and sheep!

I am itching to start on these, in fact, I think I need to give up work completely so I can knit full time!!!!

Grin

Hope all's well with everyone!!!
