What Did You Do Differently The Month You Got the BFP?

Ladies' I know that I belong on 'conception' but I was wondering if there was anything less obvious that might help. I am 35 TTC#1 over a year, DH is 47. I've had a scan (fine) and DH has had sperm test (high abnormalities but normal range). We both take vitamines, don't smoke, DH doesn't drink at all, I have the odd glass or 2 but no more and less than once a week. We both cycle, I swim, eat healthily and are beginning to panic...
Stupidly this is only the 1st month I have used ovulation sticks. We are BDing every 2 days from day 7-14. I lie with the pillow under me afterwards.

Decided to enjoy a couple of music festivals and then resume healthy diet/abstemious lifestyle the following month. Got pregnant days after drunkenly stumbling home from the second festival.

visionthing · 08/05/2011 23:09

Dh went abroad for his work for a few nights and I went abroad with my work for a few nights a week later. In between our two trips we managed to hit the jackpot.

I was similar age to you and had been ttc for over a year.

lolajane2009 · 08/05/2011 23:12

lol after 8 years of trying I found out the secret of trying to conceive...

have too much to drink at christmas and joke to a family friend about people falling pregnant at christmas... I conceived christmas night or two days later...

serious foot in mouth situation.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/05/2011 23:14

Had sex in the morning of ovulation days.

bibbitybobbityhat · 08/05/2011 23:15

P.S. its ok to say "have sex" instead of BDing. We are all grown ups here.

lia66 · 08/05/2011 23:17

after a lomh year and a crap fsh test thought "sod it then" had very little sex that month... bingo

good luck

Carrotsandcelery · 08/05/2011 23:19

dd - ovulation tests - found out I ovulate way later than we expected in the month

ds - went on holiday with dh - bingo!

mumnerves · 08/05/2011 23:21

Took pregnacare preconceive vitamins and just decided to have sex every other day around ovulation instead of stressing about it.
Good luck!

Imnotaslimjim · 08/05/2011 23:24

Gave up! After 6 years trying, and 4 MC's we gave up. And missed the next cycle lol

Everyone commented afterwards that we must have been too stressed over it all, and relaxing would have helped

Folicacid · 09/05/2011 08:12

The ovulation sticks may give you a shock in that you may actually regularly ovulate after Day 14 (perfectly normal) and have therefore been shagging all the way up to the exact time that you need to shag.

silverangel · 09/05/2011 08:20

Got drunk!

urbandaisy · 09/05/2011 08:29

Charted temperature on Fertility Friend for that month and the month prior. Gave up coffee completely. Had a little holiday.

Cattleprod · 09/05/2011 08:51

Have sex every 2 days from when your period stops until either your next period or your bfp. Don't limit yourselves to days 7-14.

And (tmi) just wipe up the excess and sleep with a wodge of toilet paper between your legs. Don't immediately go to the toilet and cough it all out.

Take folic acid.

Ernie1 · 09/05/2011 09:10

What FolidAcid said. We concieved on day 22 of my cycle!

onadietcokebreak · 09/05/2011 09:14

I also ovulate late which I didnt know before as was getting all the signs around day 14. In reality it was probably day 21.

mamaesi · 09/05/2011 09:28

I also am a big advocate of relaxing, I dont think the ovulation kits are the way to go. Just have sex every other day or every two days after period stops and enjoy it... sorry if tmi but the more you 'enjoy' (very wet) the better the sperm can swim... so break out the kama sutra and have fun!

AnytimeNOW · 09/05/2011 09:52

poppped in a "Mooncup" after jiggy...worked a treat! now 27 weeks Smile X

leopardprintmum · 09/05/2011 10:05

I was away on 2 press trips to Brazil & Cyprus, eating, drinking, smoking & generally having a top time. Clearly we weren't TTC. The week in between these trips I got preggers. I'm 36 & was supposed to have blocked tubes!

MainlyMaynie · 09/05/2011 10:23

We had been trying to conceive for a long time. I had lost weight and was doing lots of exercise. I'd been taking b6, agnus castus and folic acid for ages. That stablised my cycle a lot. I had started taking inositol six months earlier - it's supposed to take six months to work. I'd definitely recommend the supplements.

Also ignore anyone who tells you to 'relax and forget about it' - easy to say if it takes you three months to conceive, bloody impossible if you've been trying four years.

ToriaPumpkin · 09/05/2011 10:49

Took Bee Pollen as well as Folic Acid, slept with Amythest and Rose Quartz under my pillow (not for everyone but was ready to try anything), went out drinking every weekend, had reflexology a few days before and a hot stone massage a few days after ovulation, had progesterone tests and had booked OH in for a SA. Got my BFP exactly a week before his SA was booked for!

Agree with MainlyMaynie I had several friends who said "Sorry you're feeling this way, no advice as it happened first time for us." How does that help? How?! Just leave it at sorry!

StiffyByng · 09/05/2011 10:52

No idea if any of these things made the slightest bit of difference or it was coincidence but:

  1. Stopped taking temperature and charting as it was so stressful.
  2. Took Robitussin as I was low on EWCM and I read this could help.
  3. Went on holiday from my very stressful job, and
  4. Had sex almost every day.

Possibly more important though, I ovulated. I think I wasn't ovulating every month but I definitely felt it that month.

Cleona · 09/05/2011 11:05

Used ovulation strips (cheap strip-type avail on Amazon) to be sure when I was ovulating. It was a few days later than I would have expected. Had sex that day and following day.

Got a positive pregnancy test (same cheap strip-type on Amazon) 10-11 days after that positive ovulation test.

I think knowing when you ovulate is key, whether you want to get pregnant or avoid pregnancy.

I was told I probably wouldn't conceive naturally. Spent christmas drinking, going out and decorating and there we go, job done! Grin

Can I ask what does BD stand for? I mean I understand what it means but what does it actually stand for? Confused Blush
