I've seen a thread for June, July and September. But none for the future leo babies!
I'm due on the 3rd! Anyone else around then? :)

How is everyone after the heatwave? I'm back home after a day in hospital due to this annoying high bp. I really thought that a weekend of rest and medications would have brought it down but it was same reading as Friday when I went in this morning, so made me go up to the main hospital in worcester & admitted me. I was a bit shocked.

Actually though, I think it has been quite a positive day. They checked everything again. No pre-eclampsia, and BP went down after monitoring for 4 hours. Lovely doc was v helpful & let me home at tea-time. He's sending me for growth scan soon though to check all ok there.

I have been dreading going into hospital as I've never had to go in for anything ever (lucky I know) but it was good to go in today and have a 'preview' of how things work. Thought the post-natal wards were all v clean and nice really.

One thing it did confirm was that I'm happy I've bought couple good books which are helping me prepare mentally. I know you can't plan birth as such, but I do think for a total newbie mum like me, information helps me to feel calmer. Lady same age and first baby too, was in early labour with back to back baby, and she was really struggling. MW was v nice but I can see that they let you decide how things will go, so without any info, you can easily choose to do things which don't help you. I wish I'd had my book with me as she seemed at a loss to know how best to move forward and MW wasn't really suggesting anything (although very nice indeed). I came home and read up about it, and seems some positions may have been helpful in getting baby to move but she didn't know & I think she just feel exhausted and helpless.

So sorry for long post but for me, it has been quite an interesting day and just wanted to share my thoughts for what they're worth.

Hope you all doing ok - Glad they got back to you eviepoo and sounds like good news (though no cake is not good news I guess. My only vice now!)

oinkyoink · 28/06/2011 11:25

hi all

hope you are all coping ok in the heat! i feel so heavy and uncomfy... have put on 15kg at 34 weeks (eek!)

anyway i wanted to ask what you are all planning on for the going home outfit for babies? it will be August so i am guessing warm outside - is a babygrow enough? with short sleeved vest underneath? do they still need a hat? i think buying a little cotton jacket will be a waste.

Rootatoot · 28/06/2011 12:14

Hi Oinky

Hard to say as weather is so all over the place but i was thinking vest, baby gro, lightweight cotton hat and then will prob have light baby shawl too. I've got a couple of little lightweight cardigans so not a biggie to pop one in the bag in case I guess. Hopsital might advise I guess?

I'm feeling quite excited for first time now.Nice now got most of baby's things together - just need sorting out now :)

Eviepoo · 28/06/2011 15:48

I?m 32+2 now and I have gained about 12.5kg (probably almost 13kg now) and I feel so heavy too. I think it?s the swelling that?s causing me most hassle ? can barely walk by end of day.

I have a growth scan on Thursday ? as last week I measured 34 (and have impaired glucose tolerance)

Root when is your growth scan? So glad that you BP is down a bit and you don?t have any signs of Pre-Enclampsia!! But I see you are in Worcester, my aunt and uncle live there, I should look you up next time we are down visiting!!!

Oink Going home outfit ? I have a white and silver velour sleep suit. I plan on nappy, s/s vest then the sleep suit. Then I will also pop into the bag a wee white cardigan (my aunt has knitted me some) and a wee white crochet blanket (a colleague made me 2 , with pale green trims, just pram size ones, they are so lovely) and a cotton hat in case it?s cold/late or more likely the Scottish summer is typical :o

As the velour suit is 0-3 months size, I will likely put in a newborn size sleep suit too (I haven?t bought any but my mum heads out to Sydney tomorrow to see my big sister ? she had her DS2 on 02 Jun and is planning to send me her newborn size ones back with mum in 3 weeks, I have also been given a few too).

My DD was very long born and therefore not really in newborn size long and as I am measuring big this time (I am convinced that it is a combination of fluid and a long baby ? I can feel where head is and where feet are and there is no way this baby is average length ? it?s supposed to be about 16 inches long at this point of PG Hmm) I am pretty glad I didn?t bother buying any newborn size sleep suits.

Talking about clothes ? have you got much? I only have:

1 Velour sleep suit 0-3 months
1 Cream cotton jacket 0-3 months (DD bought)
5 White sleep suits 0-3 months (mum bought)
7 White s/s vests 0-3 Months (mum bought)
I White fluffy snow suit 3-6 months (mum bought) (which is good because I?ll need it in Scotland from about November ? which is when it will be starting to fit)
5 white and cream cardigans ? hand knitted in various sizes
Collection of second hand s/s vests and sleep suits ? that were given to me mostly newborn size ? but also a few 0-3 months.

However ? I still think this is quite a lot, from remembering how much stuff I was given (either as gifts or second hand) for DD when she was born.

Oh and I learned ?outfits? aren?t really needed for the beginning ? only when you are going out somewhere really. Otherwise at home ? sleep suits are the easiest option.

Eviepoo · 28/06/2011 15:49

oh and root for some reason I want mashed potatoes, green beans and cherries - not cake!

Rootatoot · 28/06/2011 17:29

Hi Evie

Don't know when growth scan is yet. Doc at hospital said he'd book me in for 32 weeks and then I reminded him I AM 32 weeks, so he said asap then & I'd hear from them. Seeing MW for yet another BP check 2moro, so I'll get her to find out perhaps. Think they want to make sure that bp hasn't effected placenta and baby's growth. I think they're being v cautious (which is good) but in my heart I feel it's all fine. LO is kicking and boogying like mad at the mo. I did get concerned he was going a bit TOO mad when I was being monitored yesterday. I couldn't keep up with all the kicks when you are meant to click the device to register each one. Doc said graph looked like a barcode!:)

I'm not quite in Worcester, we're in Kidderminster about 15 miles away. I like worcester to shop though & I've been working at the Uni there this year - hoping to go back for second semester in Feb. Are you Scottish then Evie? I lived up there for many years. Dundee then Glasgow. Haven't been up in years. Miss it, had great time up there.

I'm up to my eyes in cherries - our tree is shedding them all over at the mo! Can't pick them this year, too much effort!

Clothes wise, bought a few more baby gros last week so think ok for starters now. Got a couple of nice little cardies too, and bought a basic pack of newborn vests & some smaller sleepsuits. I had just gone with 0-3 months but some look pretty big. I think next sizes go newborn, up to 1 month, then 0-3 months or something. Hoping my baby doesn't take after me. I was a whopping 9lb 2 Grin

theonlyhb2 · 28/06/2011 18:22

i have bought nothing but some things to put in hospital bag - sleepsuits, baby grows, cotton hats and socks. I know i will get stuff from work when i leave (my assistant is good at these things) and my friend just had a baby (who was 10lb and doesnt fit in any newborn stuff) is giving me lots. Plus family and friends all want to buy things. So i figure i am good til November :)

i must chase my pram delivery.

11 days left at work. Freaking out! I am gutted really to be going as i Love my new little team (got an extra person beginning of month) and if we were all there over the next few months i could do amazing things! Plus start my marketing degree thingy. I dont think i am a stay at home person at all

Eviepoo · 28/06/2011 20:15

aaawww all those poor cherries going to waste - gutted!

Well root - I'm actually a geordie and my DH is from Manchester...and my DD was born in Stirling and has been schooled in Scotland, so you can imagine the mix of accents in our house, goodness knows how dragon will talk :) We live just 7 miles outside Edinburgh.
Think we plan to move back to north east (or west is also considered) in a year or two or three so we are closer to family. We'll just see how things work out.

theonlyhb - I too am freaking out 17 working days left - have soooooooo much to do and hate not finishing stuff.

Rootatoot · 28/06/2011 20:30

Evie how funny, I'm from north east originally too. :) We'd love to move back there but got stuck in the midlands with work. I dream of living near a northumbrian beach one day! Know what you mean about accents. DH is welsh and Kidderminster accent is a bit brummy. What a mix! Grin

Work wise, as long as I get DH's books and tax return done before I pop, I'll be happy!

Eviepoo · 28/06/2011 20:37

Oh thats too funny root, my DH and I dream of us living in a nice wee Northumbrian village, with a village pub and school. But close enough to Alnwick or Morpeth or the like so he can train it to the city (he is with a company that with he could realistically change projects and locations) it is my job and our house that ties us here. I'm going to see how much I miss it when I am on mat leave and think of what other things I can do. (I'm an auditor for a clinical lab - not the kind of job that comes up often).

WinterLover · 29/06/2011 11:01

Back from my MW appointment, they had messed up they'd written it in the diary that I was 34 weeks last time and 36 weeks today... I should have been tehre next week instead. Oh well got to wait 3 weeks till my next one now, that will be my 36 week one and the one we do the borth plan at Grin

This baby has 3 weeks to sort itself out and stay head down, not breech. Its been breech at every one of my MW, consultant and scan appointments. Its either head in pelvis or bum in pelvis Hmm they cant say for sure, she spent a good 10min prodding and poking and still couldnt work it out.

She's told me to go look into ECV's as if they still cant figure it out next time they will send me for a scan and arrange an ECV. However from what Id read previously you shouldnt have an ECV if you have an Anterior placenta, but then again placenta position isnt on my hand held notes anywhere so they wont know that bit.

Anyways rant over Grin DPs papering babys room now Grin although bad news is he may/will have to have an opperation on his knee ASAP and will be in pot for 12 weeks min... we've just got to wait for a scan date for him and consultant appointment to come through Sad

littlebrighteyes · 29/06/2011 11:14

morning all :)

had braxton hicks for ages last night -actually thought may be something more-and i feel different -i think baby has gone head down now as it feels different-got consultant tomorrow so shall ask where baby is and can they tell if baby is back to back this time-pretty sure dd was last year she was still turning round when i was in labour-and felt like my back would break -so i will be asking for epidural as soon as if its same again..............

just really tired out and on iron tablets but energy is low........

got my case packed already -just in case :)

we havnt got long to go now ladies..........................lol x

Rootatoot · 29/06/2011 12:06

Winter That's crappy news about your DP - how are you getting to hospital with him in a pot?! Hope you will have some extra help if he isn't going to be mobile. Not that I know much, but seems bit early to be considering ECV? Got plenty of time to move on his/her own yet. Though I suppose if they won't do it until after 36 weeks, maybe it isn't early. Confused

I'm off for yet another BP check. Not sure it'll be low this morning. Working up in office in attic, and been up and down 3 flights stairs umpteen times cos of deliveries etc!

littlebrighteyesI haven't had any BH as yet. I STILL need to pack my bag too. Discovered my cheapo granny pants for hospital bag are not granny enough this morning - they fit nicely for the bump right now! LOL. So still got some shopping to do but been avoiding doing anything much to keep BP down. Oh and I defo need a bigger bag! I packed the bag I was going to use in a hurry on Monday when admitted for BP and I could barely fit towel etc in as it was. That was without pads etc. Need a blinking suitcase the amount of stuff they tell you to take!

WinterLover · 29/06/2011 13:59

Hi Root its taking all my will power NOT to stress or think about him and his knee and the possibility of him being in hospital or pot when I go into labour. Our trust have a habbit of taking ages with stuff like this so fingers crossed nothing will get done till Sept, but I know our luck lol

Think the only reason she went on about it today was because I dont see her now until 36weeks so she wanted me to look into it. Plus on scans and all appointments its either breech or they cant figure it out, so shes probably just giving me a heads up on what could happen. However our trust wont deliver breech babies naturally unless there is no other option (ie baby comes very quick or its an undetected breech)

Fingers crossed your BP is ok :)

Rootatoot · 29/06/2011 15:13

Hi winter

Well I'll keep fingers crossed your DP stays mobile for a little while longer!

It's interesting all this stuff about baby's position. i'm a 1st timer so I know nowt (admittedly) so I got a couple of books because I don't really feel the MWs have time to chat about things in any great detail. Then monday, in hospital, seeing poor lass with back to back baby in early labour...I was really glad I'd bought a couple of helpful books. Both books talk a fair bit about what you can do to encourage baby to turn and what labour positions help. Seems like the lady I saw on monday didn't know what to do to help herself and MW really wasn't really suggesting anything. Wish I'd had book with me! I'm not criticising MWs, I think I just have realised the job they're there to do isn't going to be as personal as perhaps it has been in the past & there is a fair bit left to us to decide. So if you can read up on ECV and anything else you can do to help, it's probably good but then I think you have lots of time. My MWs are still not even mentioning my baby's position (unless I ask).

My BP is still high and they're now upping my meds. Feel a bit frustrated today. Feel like all the people I have been dealing with, all have a different idea on what to do & doesn't seem very joined up. I would have thought as they said I'm under consultant care now, that they would have referred any changes to care plan to that consultant but it seems now that I'm seeing GP again next week who might up my meds again (but not seeing consultant until another 2 weeks time). I don't know why they're involving GP. Wouldn't it be better to go back to consultant who decided to put me on meds?

I also mentioned to MW about being referred for growth scan and she seemed baffled as to why as she said I'm measuring fine. But then I thought the doc at hospital had said it was to check growth and placenta function. I don't like it when they seem to disagree with each other. Feel a bit like they're all doing their own thing and it's not joined up. [conufsed]

Sorry for ramble. Feeling quite peed off this afternoon. Bluddy BP is such a nuisance. Feel like I've got clock ticking to get stuff done around here but I have to take it easy cos of BP and it's just mounting up and up. Frustrated!!

WinterLover · 29/06/2011 15:48

Root think it's standard practice for MW's and consultants not to communicate with each other!! I started taking notes from consultant appointments and fixing them into hand held notes so the MW knew what was happening.

Out of interest what books did you get? Which one was the best?

I hope your BP settles out, must be a worry for you.

captainbarnacle · 29/06/2011 15:58

I had my August baby last week!!

WinterLover · 29/06/2011 16:10

Congratulations captin Grin how are you and LO? How far along was you?

Rootatoot · 29/06/2011 16:23

winter Yes, that's prob true, sadly! Books I got were JuJu Sundin's Birth Skills which I've just started reading and Jenny Smith's Your Body, Your Baby, Your Birth. Found the latter v helpful in thinking about things generally but it didn't really give me the ideas on coping with labour that I was hoping for, so got the other one which concentrates on that. Both are v good and easy to digest. Not airy fairy, just practical.

Captain Congrats! How early were you? How are you all doing?! Hoping my LO stays in until due date....too much to do!

Eviepoo · 29/06/2011 16:28

Oooh captain - details please

I hope all is well - congrats xxx

theonlyhb2 · 29/06/2011 18:56

WL i looked at my notes and saw baby been head down at all MW appointments, yet at the scans I have had a few days before MW appointments, baby head has been up by my ribs. I swear its not head down anymore either. Mum said I only moved just before I came out, they were preparing her for a breech birth. I think we are made to worry about it so much now when there is no need. They never even explained breech to Mum, she had to ask Nan, and no one considered it serious then either, they def didnt panic her about it. thats not good news to have OH in a pot! I hope he is OK.

root my massive pants are also not so massive now....they dont fit over bump and now dig in! maybe I do need those ridic mothercare ones?! why do they think you have such high BP? I would call the consultant's secretary and speak to them directly, its sometimes the only way!

bloody hell captain! didnt fancy waiting?! ha ha ha. tell us all!!!

another ante natal class tomorrow.......must remember not to make bitchy comments about stupid people.....i mean other classmates

Rootatoot · 29/06/2011 20:45

theonlyhb2 I've just done some online shopping. Bought mega ugly granny pants from M&S. The most deeply unsexy things I have ever seen, so should do the job even if end up with EMCS!!

The consultant said it was prob gestational hypertension meaning that I'm just one of those people affected by pregnancy hormones which sends BP up. I got high bp on the pill years ago too so that would make sense. However, I read that they class gestational hypertension as when normal at booking but starts being raised over 20 weeks, well AFAIK my BP was up from second reading. Seems like nobody took any notice until 28 weeks, as pretty much didn't see anyone for about 10 weeks or so. I'm feeling quite fed up now to be honest. I don't know that I want to start making a fuss right now tho. Feel like I need MW to be onside and if I do that then maybe she'd see it that I was going behind her back. I am going to question the GP on Monday though. I don't even know him. Can't get appointments with my own GP without a week's notice at least. So I'll ask this other GP what 'consultant' led care means if I'm not even referred back to them when there's an issue. Don't mind if his nose is put out of joint by question as he isn't my GP!

Oh and do give us an update on your antenatal class - made me smile last week. Could do with something to cheer me up!

I have my BF class next week but haven't had the one on labour yet. Marvellous. Feel like it's all a bit crap really! MOAN MOAN MOAN. Sorry I'll shut up now and go watch Grumpy Lord Sugar on apprentice. xx

captainbarnacle · 29/06/2011 21:44

Well I found out 2 weeks ago at 32w scan I had major placenta praevia (covering the cervix) and they said I needed weekly appointments with hospital midwives and a c-section at the end of July (due date was 11th August). Four days later, I started bleeding after a gentle swim and had to dial 999 and I had him at 32w+4 within a couple of hours arriving at the hospital! I lost a stupid amount of blood (about 4 litres they tell me?) and stayed in hospital for nearly a week.

DS3 is doing well. He was given assistance for breathing (oxygen etc) for a couple of days and came out of the incubator yesterday.

I never imagined I would have a premature baby - DS1 (42w) and DS2 (41w) were overdue babies. It's very difficult to see him as I rely on friends to get me to the hospital, but am relieved he's doing so well. I can hold him now, but I just want him home.

Good luck to all of you August mummies!!

WinterLover · 29/06/2011 21:56

captin that must have been scary for you. Pleased your able to hold him and he's doing well Grin

Eviepoo · 29/06/2011 22:09

Wow captain I bet that was scary at the time

So glad he is ok :) heres hoping he comes home soon. When is your DH back?...I seem to remember he works away (or is my baby brain making things up?)

I have heat rash on my boobs (underneath) and bump (underneath where it meets groin area) ow ow ow I've had a cool bath and put nappy ointment on it - so stingy and uncomfortable now - any ideas to help clear it up?

In other news regarding the GTT has she or hasn't she got GD saga - they've changed their minds again. The hospital diabetes MW phoned today to say that they have changed the limits. I have a 2 hour appointment on Monday - to have my bloods checked - show me how to check my bloods (will need to several times a day) and to do a food chart etc etc.

So that and my growth scan tomorrow are more and more making me want to start ML a week earlier...work are not so keen on the idea but I will make a firm decision depending on tomorrows growth scan.

Todays moan = I'm hot, heavy, hard (bump), sore, thobbing (elephant feet and hands) and thirsty - how big can I get?

:o
